Buying & selling a car in Spain
B
uying or selling a used car in Spain can be a hazardous business, but if you take care to ensure that all the necessary paperwork is completed to cover yourself against liabilities, things should go smoothly.
Buying a car in Spain
When buying a car you’ll need to ensure sure you have at least one of the following (though, it’s best to have as many as possible with photocopies). • • • •
Permiso de Residencia or Residence Permit (NIE) or passport. Your escrituras, or house deeds, or a rental contract for a minimum of one year. Although it should not be required, it is a good idea to have a Certificado de Empadronamiento or proof of residence in your municipality, available free or for a few cents from the Town Hall. It should not be older than three months. Some car dealers insist on it, and if you don´t have it, everybody wastes time until the dealer checks his facts. If you are financing the car through a dealer you will also need to provide atres nóminas, your three last payslips, or some other proof of income, such as a copy of your work contract.
Buying a car from a private seller involves you and the seller entering into a joint legal relationship and handling all the paperwork yourselves. You and the seller must draw up a Contrato de compraventa (a purchase agreement), and make the transfer of ownership at the Registro de Vehículos (the vehicle registration desk) of the Jefatura de Tráfico (Traffic Department). You both fill in and sign the Solicitud de Transmisión de Vehículos (transfer document), and keep a copy. Make sure that the date and time of the transfer appears on the Contrato so that any traffic fines the seller has left unpaid are not passed on to you. If you are buying a car you must ask the seller for two further documents. The local car tax, impuesto sobre la circulación de vehiculos, should be fully paid up to date (ask to see the vendor’s passport or identity card to check their signature is genuine, and ask for a photocopy for your own security, in case anything goes wrong). The other document you should have is a transferencia. This is obtainable from Trafico and should be completed and signed. Help with all these papers can be given by a competent gestor or by the Real Automovil Club de España (RACE). Be careful to check the legal status of any car you buy. All cars over four years old must be inspected and must pass the inspeccion technical de vehiculos (ITV), equivalent to the MOT test.
If you buy a vehicle from a reputable car dealership, they usually handle all the paperwork on your behalf to complete the ownership transfer. However, they will look to you for payment of Trafico’s transfer tax and fee. The transfer will take a minimum of fifteen days. Trafico charges are approximately 40 Euros plus a tax amount that is 4% of the book value of the vehicle.
Paperwork for buying a car in Spain
Whether you decide to buy from a private seller or a dealer, similar paperwork is involved. You should ask to see the originals of all documents, particularly when dealing with a private seller. • The Permiso de Circulación or Log Book, which is the car´s ID. It shows proof that the chassis number (vehicle identification number) corresponds with the one on the vehicle´s registration document, and provides information on the car, such as the number plate, make, model, name and address of the owner and when it was first registered. • A Transferencia, or transfer of ownership form. • The Inspección Técnica (or ITV) document or MOT, stamped and dated on passing the last inspection and detailing when the next one is due. This proves that the car met the minimum environmental and road safety standards required by law. • The Impuesto Sobre Vehiculos or road license fee for the current financial year, paid in full.
Selling a car in Spain If you are selling a car, you must sign the section on the back of the permiso de circulación which begins ‘Transferido …’. To make sure no problems arise you should also write in the date of the sale. This obliges the new owner to complete the paperwork within 10 days. You can also notify the jefatura provincial de trafico of the sale, to cover yourself in case the buyer omits to change the name on the car’s papers. If the car is still in your name after the sale, the new owner could be running up fines for which you will be liable. You can check this: ask at the jefatura for the form called solicitud de datos del registro de vehiculos (request for vehicle registration details). This will tell you whether or not you are still the car’s registered owner. It is however a legal requirement for the buyer to transfer the vehicle into their name as soon as possible after its purchase.

2016 MercedesAMG C63 Coupe
T
he beginning of 2016 will see the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz SL which will become available from April 2016. Offered with a host of significantly enhanced technical and visual feature the new Mercedes –AMG C63 Coupe has a more powerful engine and the automatic transmission 9G-TRONIC, DYNAMIC SELECT with five transmission modes and Active Body Control with the curve tilting function all take the already legendary AMG range to a new dynamic level.
What It Is The most powerful iteration of the next Cclass coupe, the Mercedes-AMG C63. It will be strongly differentiated from the non-AMG versions. Powered by a twin-turbo V-8, the C63 will share less than half of its sheetmetal with the workaday coupes.
Why It Matters The latest Mercedes-Benz C-class has turned into a headache for the competition. Featuring a new, more upscale design language both inside and out and loaded with cuttingedge technology, it has vaulted to near the top of its segment, and it makes the analogous BMW and Audi models look positively
dated. With the C63 coupe, the company remains in attack mode in the profitable highperformance corner of the segment. And this car could even steal a few sales from Porsche, grabbing customers who wouldn’t look at an AMG GT because it lacks rear seats—which would give the Daimler brass particular delight, given the two companies’ proximity in Stuttgart.
Platform Built off of the rear-wheel-drive platform shared with the C-class sedan, the upcoming GLC crossover (that’s the GLK replacement), and the next-generation E-class, the C coupe has access to a vast bin of hardware and electronics bits. Expect telematics and assistance systems that go beyond the class standard.
Powertrain The AMG C63 coupe, like its four-door sibling, will be powered by the M177 version of the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that also sits under the hood of the AMG GT (where it’s designatedM178). As in the C63 sedan, we expect two levels of output; a standard version will make 469 horsepower, while the C63 S will produce a whopping 503. Maximum torque should be rated at 479 or 516
lb-ft, and the grunt will be routed exclusively to the rear wheels by AMG’s “Speedshift” seven-speed automatic. We’re still sad that the beloved, bellicose, naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 that powered the last C63 is no more, but our drive of the four-door C63 proved that this engine is no wallflower in terms of
responsiveness, fury, and righteous noise. Figure on zero-to-60-mph times of less than four seconds.

New record set in November For the first time, Porsche exceeds the 200,000 mark of vehicles delivered

tuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG has delivered 209,894 cars worldwide from January to November 2015. This corresponds to a 24% increase in comparison to the same period in 2014. Thus, for the first time in the history of the company, Porsche has handed over to customers more than 200,000 vehicles. As early as last year, the Stuttgart-based sports car maker had set a record with a total of 189,849 deliveries the world over. “With more than 200,000 Porsche models delivered, we have reached a milestone of our strategy 2018 well ahead of schedule”, underscores Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board – Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, thanking the employees: “Porsche employees worldwide have joined forces to contribute to making this success possible. With our future-oriented products, our motivated staff and our powerful sales partners the world over, we are clearly well positioned for the future.”
In November, Porsche delivered a total of 18,110 new cars. The Cayenne is the clear growth driver here: with 6,579 vehicles delivered in November 2015, the delivery volumes rose 39% compared to the same period last year. The Cayenne has also been a best seller PORSCHE AG Deliveries
in the period of January to November 2015. 68,029 models (a rise of 14%) were handed over to customers all over the world. The strongest single market during the period of January to November 2015 was China:
Porsche delivered 54,302 cars there. This corresponds to an increase of 34%. Right behind it was the United States, with 47,819 vehicles delivered (a 9% increase). The European market grew by 30% to 70,509 units sold.

& why the manufacturers don’t do it!

CU remapping will not only improve the engines power and torque figures, it will also sharpen the throttle response and widen the power-band. This will make the power delivery a lot more linear, which in turn will make the vehicle feel a lot livelier to drive and the engine more flexible. Manufacturers generally sell one vehicle that covers various markets, with different tax and emissions regulations; different climates with extremes of heat, cold, humidity; different fuel quantities; different operating altitudes, etc. A manufacturer has to take all of these factors into consideration and make substantial compromises in the vehicles operation. As a driving enthusiast, you do not need or want such restrictions placed upon your vehicles ECU and its performance therefore you can benefit from the hidden power and torque locked away within your engine management system. The other main benefit of remapping will be a reduction in fuel consumption. With the extra torque especially at the bottom of the rev range you will see a fuel saving, as it will require less throttle input to maintain motorway speeds, you can drive in a higher gear at a slower speed as well as helping significantly when fully laden, towing or on gradients and even in start stop traffic. The emissions are improved, due to a more efficient engine, and everything is kept well within safe limits of the engine.
