Buying & selling a car in Spain uying or selling a used car in Spain can be a hazardous business, but if you take care to ensure that all the necessary paperwork is completed to cover yourself against liabilities, things should go smoothly.
Buying a car in Spain
When buying a car you’ll need to ensure sure you have at least one of the following (though, it’s best to have as many as possible with photocopies). • • • •
Permiso de Residencia or Residence Permit (NIE) or passport. Your escrituras, or house deeds, or a rental contract for a minimum of one year. Although it should not be required, it is a good idea to have a Certificado de Empadronamiento or proof of residence in your municipality, available free or for a few cents from the Town Hall. It should not be older than three months. Some car dealers insist on it, and if you don´t have it, everybody wastes time until the dealer checks his facts. If you are financing the car through a dealer you will also need to provide atres nóminas, your three last payslips, or some other proof of income, such as a copy of your work contract.
Buying a car from a private seller involves you and the seller entering into a joint legal relationship and handling all the paperwork yourselves. You and the seller must draw up a Contrato de compraventa (a purchase agreement), and make the transfer of ownership at the Registro de Vehículos (the vehicle registration desk) of the Jefatura de Tráfico (Traffic Department). You both fill in and sign the Solicitud de Transmisión de Vehículos (transfer document), and keep a copy. Make sure that the date and time of the transfer appears on the Contrato so that any traffic fines the seller has left unpaid are not passed on to you. If you are buying a car you must ask the seller for two further documents. The local car tax, impuesto sobre la circulación de vehiculos, should be fully paid up to date (ask to see the vendor’s passport or identity card to check their signature is genuine, and ask for a photocopy for your own security, in case anything goes wrong). The other document you should have is a transferencia. This is obtainable from Trafico and should be completed and signed. Help with all these papers can be given by a competent gestor or by the Real Automovil Club de España (RACE). Be careful to check the legal status of any car you buy. All cars over four years old must be inspected and must pass the inspeccion technical de vehiculos (ITV), equivalent to the MOT test.
If you buy a vehicle from a reputable car dealership, they usually handle all the paperwork on your behalf to complete the ownership transfer. However, they will look to you for payment of Trafico’s transfer tax and fee. The transfer will take a minimum of fifteen days. Trafico charges are approximately 40 Euros plus a tax amount that is 4% of the book value of the vehicle.
Paperwork for buying a car in Spain
Whether you decide to buy from a private seller or a dealer, similar paperwork is involved. You should ask to see the originals of all documents, particularly when dealing with a private seller. • The Permiso de Circulación or Log Book, which is the car´s ID. It shows proof that the chassis number (vehicle identification number) corresponds with the one on the vehicle´s registration document, and provides information on the car, such as the number plate, make, model, name and address of the owner and when it was first registered. • A Transferencia, or transfer of ownership form. • The Inspección Técnica (or ITV) document or MOT, stamped and dated on passing the last inspection and detailing when the next one is due. This proves that the car met the minimum environmental and road safety standards required by law. • The Impuesto Sobre Vehiculos or road license fee for the current financial year, paid in full.
Selling a car in Spain If you are selling a car, you must sign the section on the back of the permiso de circulación which begins ‘Transferido …’. To make sure no problems arise you should also write in the date of the sale. This obliges the new owner to complete the paperwork within 10 days. You can also notify the jefatura provincial de trafico of the sale, to cover yourself in case the buyer omits to change the name on the car’s papers. If the car is still in your name after the sale, the new owner could be running up fines for which you will be liable. You can check this: ask at the jefatura for the form called solicitud de datos del registro de vehiculos (request for vehicle registration details). This will tell you whether or not you are still the car’s registered owner. It is however a legal requirement for the buyer to transfer the vehicle into their name as soon as possible after its purchase.

JEEP ANNOUNCES NEW 75TH ANNIVERSARY RANGE
A
new limited edition range of Jeep vehicles has been launched to celebrate the legendary brand’s 75th Anniversary.
The special versions feature exclusive branding, a high level of standard equipment, special styling details, unique green paint finishes (among other colour choices) and unique ‘75th Anniversary’ badging. Just 8,000 of the limited edition cars will be built for the entire EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region. Celebratory editions of Jeep’s popular Renegade
and iconic Cherokee will be the first models to arrive, with the most awarded SUV ever, the Grand Cherokee, and the ‘go anywhere, do anything’ Wrangler following later in the year. All 75th Anniversary models are distinguished by a new livery, a 75th Anniversary badge, low gloss bronze wheels, bronze and orange exterior inserts and exclusive interiors with seats sporting the 75th Anniversary logo in relief (with the exception of Renegade)
The Renegade 75th Anniversary sports a unique Jungle Green livery and comes equipped with either a 1.4-litre turbo MultiAir II 170 hp engine with a nine-speed automatic transmission or a 2.0-litre MultiJet II 140 hp engine with a choice of either a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic transmission and class exclusive Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4x4 systems. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, the exclusive MySky sunroof with removable panels, bronze-coloured fog lamp bezels, roof rails, and new, specific fabric seats in either Black or Black and Sandstorm cloth with Tangerine stitching.

Jeep’s Cherokee 75th Anniversary comes in Recon Green and is powered by the new MultiJet II 2.2-litre 200 hp turbo diesel engine with either Jeep Active Drive I 4x4 system or Active Drive II with twospeed power transmission units and low mode. Nappa leather seats with dual tone Tangerine/ Pearl stitching, 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen radio, bi-xenon headlamps, heated steering wheel and dual pane panoramic sunroof, are among the standard equipment.
The iconic Jeep Wrangler has received similar treatment. The 75th Anniversary edition for this model boasts a Sarge Green body and comes equipped with either a 2.8-litre 200 hp turbo diesel or a 3.6-litre 284 hp petrol engine. Standard equipment includes bodycolour grille, low gloss bronze headlamp surrounds and grille throats, Power Dome hood with functional air vents, navigation with premium sound system, Ombre Mesh leather seats and body-colour dual top.
The line-up is completed by the Jeep Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary also featuring Recon Green paint finish. Powered by the 3.0-litre V-6 MultiJet 250 hp engine, it is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Equipment is comprehensive and includes 20-inch light alloy wheels, navigation system, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and Quadra-Lift air suspension that adjusts ground clearance to five different levels for improved driving dynamics on and offroad. A Nappa leather interior will be available in Morocco Black.
At launch the new Jeep Renegade 75th Anniversary edition will cost from €33,975 OTR, while the new Cherokee 75th Anniversary edition will cost from £49,375 OTR. Prices for the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee versions will be announced later in the year. “It’s a Jeep tradition to celebrate key anniversaries, and 2016 is no exception,” says Damien Dally, head of brand, Jeep. “Born in 1941, the Jeep brand has a rich heritage which this new line-up of special cars brilliantly acknowledges. “One of the special features of these 75th Anniversary cars will be the unique green colours, but the choice does not stop there. There are several other paints to choose from, along with a range of options which will help owners to make their special cars even more distinctive.” For more information about the Jeep Renegade and Cherokee 75th Anniversary models, visit: www.jeep.com

LaFerrari An iconic name for a car that encompasses the very best of Prancing Horse passion, technology and exclusivity
T
he successor to the Ferrari Enzo has officially been unveiled. on the 5th March 2013, the wraps came off and the Prancing Horse’s eagerlyanticipated limited edition design of which only 499 were made was finally uneviled to the world. LaFerrari also known as the F70, or by its project name, F150 is Ferrari´s hybrid sports car described as the most comprehensive Ferrari ever. “We chose to call this model LaFerrari,” declared Ferrari’s President, Luca di Montezemolo, “because it defines our compan excellence. Excellence in terms of technological innovation, performance, visionary styling and the sheer thrill of driving. Aimed at our collectors, this is a truly extraordinary car which encompasses advanced solutions that, in the future, will find their way onto the rest of the range, and it represents the benchmark
for the entire automotive industry. LaFerrari is the finest expression of our company’s unique, unparalleled engineering and design know-how, including that acquired in Formula 1”. For Ferrari the development of a limited edition car like the LaFerrari represents an opportunity to experiment with all the technological solutions that will eventually filter down onto the production cars, of particular significance in this context is the introduction of the hybrid system which, making full use of the Scuderia Ferrari’s F1 KERS know-how, results in a solution that exalts Ferrari’s fundamental values – performance and driving thrills. The hybrid technology used, known as HY-KERS, represents the perfect combination of maximum performance and lower emissions. LaFerrari in fact emits just 330 g/km of CO2 but without resorting to electric-only drive which
would not fit the mission of this model. The HY-KERS system has been designed so that in future applications a car can be driven using exclusively electric power for a few kilometres and, during development testing, a full-electric version of LaFerrari achieved just 220 g/ km of CO2 emissions on the combined cycle. The LaFerrari is equipped with dynamic controls that are integrated for the first time ever on a Ferrari road car with active aerodynamics and the HY-KERS system. Thanks to Ferrari’s proprietary logic which govern all the systems, the car can achieve absolute levels of performance, aerodynamic efficiency and handling without any form of compromise in any area. A very advanced and uncompromising approach was also taken with the interior design which features an HMI inspired by F1 single-seaters.

Powertrain
innovative design which retains close links to the marque’s tradition.
The LaFerrari is the first car in Ferrari’s history to be powered by the HY-KERS system. The ICE represents the pinnacle of engine development and research, with a 6262 cc V12 that punches out 800 CV and revs to a maximum of 9,250 rpm, a record for an engine of this displacement. It also features a very high 13.5:1 compression ratio and a high specific output equal to 128 CV per litre. The engine is coupled with a 120 Kw (163 CV) electric motor, giving it a combined power output of 963 CV.
This is most evident in its side profile: the car has a sharp, downward-sloping nose and a very low bonnet which emphasises its muscular wheelarches, a clear nod to the gloriously exuberant forms of late 1960s Ferrari sports prototypes.
Styling The Ferrari design team led by Flavio Manzoni developed the LaFerrari’s styling working in close synergy with the engineers to emphasise the exacting link between form and function. The result is an extreme,
The LaFerrari’s body has been given a sculptural treatment heavily influenced by its clearly F1-inspired aerodynamics and a tail section that exudes uncompromising sportiness. Inside there’s a newly-designed steering wheel sporting all the major commands, and the gear-shift paddles are now longer and more ergonomic.

BLACK BADGE A DARK, EDGY, LIFESTYLE STATEMENT FROM ROLLS-ROYCE
Black Badge is an attitude to life, an aspect of the Rolls-Royce brand that appeals to those people who are elusive and defiant, the risk takers and disruptors who break the rules and laugh in the face of convention. They are driven by a restless spirit. They play hard and they change the world. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief Executive Officer Rolls-Royce Motor Cars
S
ir Malcolm Campbell, Howard Hughes, Keith Moon, Yves Saint Laurent, Muhammad Ali and our own Charles Rolls to name a few were young gentlemen in a hurry, driven by their restless spirits to change the world in their own way. Untrammelled by social convention, these disruptors lived life on the edge, believing the ultimate power to be self-empowerment, pushing every boundary to realise their personal vision. Glamorous and daring, they lived fast, worked hard and played hard.
An alter-ego for a new breed of customer Today’s generation of young, self-empowered, self-confident rule-breakers are just as uncompromising and unapologetic in their choice of living and lifestyle as their predecessors. They follow the road less travelled, live the unconventional life, darkly obsessed by their own pursuits and accomplishments from which they derive a pure adrenaline rush. Rolls-Royce Black Badge speaks to the darker, more assertive, confident and demanding aesthetic of these customers. As a truly bespoke response to their desires, the interplay of brand and customer has had a transformative effect on the appearance and substance of Rolls-Royce Ghost and Wraith. The result is Ghost Black Badge and Wraith Black Badge - two cars at first glance offering very distinctive, common visual cues to their nature. But below the surface are two very different beasts.
The transformation of an icon The Black Badge not only turns traditional Rolls-Royce styling elements on their heads, but also is an indicator of the power and feel of the first beneficiaries of this treatment, the Ghost and Wraith models. As the name implies, the classic Rolls-Royce badge receives a notable change, with its colour scheme inverted. Rather than black letters on a silver background, it shows silver letters on a black background, likely the biggest change to the badge since the switch from red to black lettering. Along with the badge, Rolls-Royce’s famous hood ornament, the Spirit of Ecstasy, changes from chrome to what Rolls-Royce calls a “high-gloss dark vamp”.
Beyond the styling, which can be unique for each car, Rolls-Royce have tweaked the throttle, transmission and suspension programming for the Wraith and Ghost Black Badge editions. Where Rolls-Royce traditionally emphasized a “wafting” quality to how its cars drove, these models allow more dynamic performance, likely with more power delivered on throttle tip-in and higher engine speeds in general. The adaptive suspension, while maintaining high levels of comfort, is now programmed to handle driving at higher speeds. As for more tangible improvement, RollsRoyce tweaked the Wraith’s 6.6-liter V-12 engine, increasing torque by 52 pound-feet, to 642. Horsepower remains at 624, the top output of any Rolls-Royce mode. The company
also found more room for improvement with the Ghost’s 6.6-liter V-12 engine, giving it a 40-horsepower increase, to 603. The increased performance and the darker styling are designed to gratify the younger buyers. Pricing for the Black Badge has not yet been announced, but as with most highluxury items, it likely follows the axiom that if you need to ask, you can’t afford it.

over March 2015. First quarter registrations advanced 8% to 2.89 million cars, while the March SAAR came in at 11.04 million across the five markets. SUV registrations ranked first, accounting for more than one out of four passenger cars registered.
However, last month’s growth can be attributed to different factors across different regions. Italy saw the highest increase, with registrations recording a 18% jump compared to the same month last year. This was possible thanks mostly to higher company car and private purchases. Despite this big increase, Italy was only the fourth largest market of the Big 5, ahead of Spain. Volumes in the UK advanced 5% to a March record of 518,700 units, taking its year-to-date total to 771,800 cars. France was the other big market to register a monthly increase (+7%), with YTD growth at 8% over the first quarter of 2015. March registrations in Germany and Spain stalled at 0% and -1% respectively, though their YTD volumes were still positive at +4% in Germany and +8% in Spain.
The premium segment was boosted by strong sales increases coming from Land Rover, Volvo and Jaguar, as well as Infiniti, which more than doubled its volume over March 2015. Other key improvers included Ssangyong, Honda, Mini, Smart, Abarth and Lancia. The SUV boom continued at an impressive pace, with the segment gaining even more market share, thanks to sales growth of 22% during March, and an overall 25% increase in Q1 of 2016. Last month its registrations in the big 5 European markets totalled 343,400 units, making up over 25% of the total. In contrast to this positive trend, sales of subcompacts fell 1% over March 2015 and grew by only 3% during the first quarter. Meanwhile registrations of compact vehicles were up 4% in the month, and 7% in the quarter. However, these two segments were not the biggest casualties of the SUV segments surge, as the MPV figures show that their volumes have dropped by 8% in March, and 3% since January 2016. The same occurred in the large sedan/SW segment, with registrations down by 7% in March and 5% in the first quarter. The Volkswagen Golf topped the model ranking, with registrations rising 4% to
43,500 units, while its cumulative results since January remained stalled (+0%). Despite its low growth rate, Volkswagen’s model did better than others at the top of the table, as Ford recorded a 12% drop on its Fiesta registrations, similar to the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa (-9%) and Renault Clio (-4%). In fact, there were only two models among the top 10 to gain market share: the Fiat 500 and Opel/Vauxhall Astra. The small Fiat re-entered the top 10 with a 13% rise, due largely to strong increases in Italy, France and Spain, while the Astra recorded a 10% increase. Among the big market share winners were the Renault Kadjar, Hyundai Tucson, Opel/Vauxhall Karl/Viva, Fiat 500X and Mercedes GLC. “With lower increases across the Big 5 markets, we have seen an overall slowdown in growth. However the situation continues to be positive, with an overall growth rate of 8% for Q1 in 2016. The shift from traditional segments to SUVs continues, as more carmakers invest in what has proved to be an impressively popular and highgrowth segment” concluded Felipe Munoz, Global Automotive Analyst at JATO Dynamics.

China’s LeEco unveils
all-electric concept car
with sights set on industry leaders China’s Le Holdings Co Ltd, also known as LeEco and formerly as LeTV, has unveiled an all-electric battery “concept” car whose production version the company hopes will compete head-on with Tesla Motors Inc’s Model S.
The concept car, called LeSEE, which hints at a production version of the car LeEco is widely expected to launch in the future, is one of an array of similarly positioned premium electric vehicles (EVs) due to hit the market in the next few years from more than half a dozen Chinese-funded EV start-ups. LeEco said the concept car, which will be displayed at this week’s Beijing auto show, is not only fully electrically propelled but has been engineered to be a “smart”, “connected” and “automated self-driving” car. Jia Yueting, co-founder and head of LeEco, said he hopes that when the car hits the market it will help China’s auto industry reach the forefront of the global auto sector.
