Of course, mention the Brazilian singer is just enough to start to swing to the rhythm of Bossa Nova.

TIMELESS Reflecting refinement and luxury, venetian mirrors are not just a timeless piece, as well a perfect match for those who to opt for a design features bold lines, with their slender lines, arcs and precise details. A

SOFTER take on color for 2016: For the first time, the blending of two shades – Rose Quartz and Serenity are chosen as the PANTONE Color of the Year. As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of color association. In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.

WHAT IS THE PANTONE COLOR OF THE YEAR? A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude. For the first time Pantone introduces two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity as the PANTONE Color of the Year 2016. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.

HETHER you’re planning on setting the table for a fully-fledged traditional family feast or a minimal spread for two, no detail must be overlooked. After all the effort going into gifting, the tree, and your Christmas roast, the table’s accoutrements should also reflect the seasonal magic. Here are 6 tips that’ll help make your holiday table look spectacular:

1. Try something unusual Nothing creates the “WOW” factor like unexpected details, which is also a great conversation starter. Adding quirky twists to your decorating theme will really stand out.

2. Add something personal A decorated table can feel indifferent without the personal touches. Write a quote from each person’s favourite holiday movie on their place card, incorporate photos of your loved ones, or leave little notes telling each person how happy you are to have them with you. Your guests will be so touched by your thoughtfulness

3. Use several coordinating, but unique, elements to unify the space From the chargers and napkin rings to the vases and votives, repeat similar colours and textures to create consistency. Too many colours or styles can become confusing and stressful to take in, while a consistent look is soothing and enjoyable.

4. Good lighting will create the warm ambiance at your holiday table Done correctly, a vase of flowers becomes the perfect subject for a romantic Dutch still-life, and the soft under lighting of votive candles brings out that lovely glow in your loved ones’ faces for a scene you will not forget.

5. Add texture Whether you are attracted to sparkly glitter or natural wood grains, contrasting textures can make the difference between a so-so centrepiece and one that impresses even the harshest of critics. The subtle differences in combinations such as soft leather with sophisticated brass, crisp white shellac next to rough reclaimed barn wood, or faux fur reflecting off of metallic gold make a powerful statement at your dinner party.

6. Don’t forget the kid’s table Be sure to dress a separate table for the kids which reaffirms your design, making the table centrepiece the highlight of your décor rather than an island of style in an otherwise blank space.

Hosting your Christmas dinner in style Christmas dinner is the highlight of the festive season; it is planned with military precision and is a feast for all your senses; taste, sight and smell, and before the food is even served the way your table is dressed will set the tone for what is to come & a little thought can make all the difference

THE SPEAKER, NOT THE ROOM, DEFINES THE SOUND Imagine a loudspeaker so intelligently conceptualized, so exquisitely crafted, and so finely tuned that it can deliver the ultimate sound experience no matter the circumstances. That is the new BeoLab 90 loudspeaker by Bang & Olufsen. It will change the future of sound.

A GREATER SENSE OF WARMTH Lladró’s Belle de Nuit collection is a new line of ceiling, tabletop and wall lamps made in porcelain and come in various formats and colours in tune with happening trends in interiors and home décor. The concept for this new collection is based on the classic crystal chandelier, updating it not only in terms of the material used, but also changing the expressive language. The sensation Lladró lamps transmit in comparison with those made in other materials is the greater sense of warmth. The most striking feature of the Belle de Nuit collection is the application of the original Lladró palette of colours.

ART DECO AND CONTEMPORARY STYLE merged into a small masterpiece of design

W

ITH a reference to Art Decò, revisited in a more modern and chic key, this collection of pendant lamps realized by Evistyle and designed by Dima Loginoff, is the representation of International style and Italian preciousness. Available in single and multiple, as well as in circular and linear version, Memoria can gain additional exclusivity playing with the volumes of its elements and the different colours of glass diffusers: transparent or metalized in gold, chrome and copper, combined with cables of the same colour, coated with metal braid. The “trans-mirror” effect, obtained with the metalized glass diffusers, enhances the charm of the lamp creating sophisticated transparencies with the light on. The version with the transparent glass diffuser, instead, contains within it a bright ball in blown glass, a witness of the attention to detail, that is a typical element of the brand. Alternating transparent glass and other metalized gold, chromed and copper elements, in different diameters, Memoria offers the possibility to create personalized aesthetic and chromatic compositions, according to your needs. Its bearing and Its appearance allows it to personalize the environment also as a single suspension, but increasing the number of light sources it’s possible to multiply the charm and the power of expression. Whatever the final composition, the perception is always to be in front of a unique piece.

The Ten Commandments of interior design

1

Discover your personnel style

Nowadays there are numerous resources available to help you discover what your personnel style is. To help you establish what look you want to achieve start a style & idea folder of rooms / elements within a room that you love. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles to create a custom look that is just you, it doesn’t matter if you are a traditionalist at heart you can still incorporate the clean sleek lines of contemporary items.

2

Plan ahead

Be sure to have a well thought out plan before you start designing any room, this will help to keep you focused on the job at hand to stop you deviating and starting new jobs before the current job is finished - there’s nothing worse than having lots of unfinished design jobs within the home.

3

Don’t fall into a design trap

All the design and interior magazines may be showcasing the latest trend – but remember that’s all it is. While the latest trends and styles are great at offering inspiration you don’t want to find yourself with a dated look, instead borrow ideas from these trends and incorporate them into your design plan to create a unique look suited to your style and taste.

4

Don’t skimp on quality products

It’s easily done, instead of buying a quality product we sometimes tend to make do with the easiest option, but remember you pay for what you get! Buy brands that you know and trust especially when it comes to appliances, you may pay more initially but in the long term it will last a lot longer and be cheaper.

If you’re planning to revamp in the New Year, hear are a few handy tips that can go a long way to avoiding those mishaps

5

Choose your colours carefully

Colour is one of the best ways to too add warmth and personality in a room. Find what shades make you happy and use them to add some life to your room. Small rooms are a great place to make a dramatic colour statement however if you don’t feel that brave accent doorways, bay windows to add that splash of colour.

6

Pay attention to lighting

Lighting is a key element in achieving success when designing. In addition to the functional aspects, lighting also helps to set the mood and ambience of a room. When deciding what lighting to use, think about how the room will be used as this will help you decide on the correct fixtures and fitting. Don’t be afraid of different types of lighting such as incandescent or halogen, or sconces and chandeliers.

7

Don’t forget to look up

While the main focus of any room is the floor and walls it is important not to forget your ceiling. The ceiling can help to add dimension and character to a room, if you are designing a traditional room crown mouldings look fantastic, for a more modern look why not extend the colour of the walls onto the ceiling to create a cohesive, never-ending look to the room. Just be sure to choose a ¼ lighter shade of paint

on the ceiling since horizontal planes tend to look darker than vertical planes.

8

Accessorise with artwork

9

Don’t use decorative items simply to fill a space

Wall art doesn’t need to be expensive it needs to please you. Framed personal photographs tell about people and places that hold great meaning for you. Many homeowners think expensive price tags when they think of art. However, art doesn’t have to have a high monetary value as long as it has high personal value. Framing personal photographs of your favourite vacation can add a beautiful statement to a room, while making it uniquely your own.

The decorative accents you choice should be functional and inspirational. When searching for that special item don’t give up and select something that you don’t truly love or buy it just because it suits your budget. If you can’t afford that special something wait it will be well worth the wait once you’ve managed to save your pennies and it takes pride of place in your room.

10

Make sure your rooms complement each other

Open floor plans make colour flow and design flow more important than ever. No room is an island. Some colours complement each other and work wonderfully together. Others just seem jarring and uncomfortable when used together. Design styles should also flow from one room to another. All surface textures and finishes should be considered in your plan and be used to draw the design elements of one room into another.

Candles speak a very special language The soft glow of candles and the thrilling sensation of flickering light soothe the soul, and mesmerize the mind.

S

CENTED or not, pillars or tea lights there is something magical about these little decorating accessories. Candles are a great way to refresh your interior design. Even if you don’t ever light them, the style, the texture, the candle holders all add up to your unique home design. They are a great way of creating the right mood and scented candles can be soothing. Candles are the ideal accessory for decorating any room. Love, harmony, beauty, relaxation and colour are only a few things that they address. They can calm and excite; illuminate and cast shadows; speak volumes and whisper. The important thing to remember when decorating with candles is that they always have the last word. Since they add the final touch to a room, anywhere a candle speaks, people listen. One of the most popular places to include candles is the fireplace or mantel. But of course, your living room is not the only room that can be a host to candles. Bathrooms and bedrooms both benefit from the look and smell of candles. When placing a candle in a room try to match the colours of with the furnishings and other interior dÊcor elements. The colour choice is as important as the type of candle itself. Some believe that colours have significant meanings (i.e. red = energy and passion, green = wealth and abundance). Still, it is best to choose colours that match the existing colour scheme. If you want a simply ivory candle a piece of coloured ribbon wrapped around the object that is housing the candle can pull the decoration together. In other words, there is no need to pick any old colour to bring attention to candles. They speak for themselves.
