Ybor City, a Tampa neighborhood, was once known as the "Cigar Capital of the World" and employed workers from Italy, Spain and Cuba. Hooker Falls framed by fall colors

ASHEVILLE’S AMAZING AUTUMN HEAD TO N.C. THIS FALL FOR A TAPESTRY OF COLOR By Gabriele Walkow

T

o experience fall foliage at its most fabulous, Allegiant travelers should head to Asheville, N.C. where natures bold brushstrokes paint the leaves brilliant hues of red, yellow and orange. Due to its rich biodiversity and wide range of elevations, Asheville has one of the longest and most vibrant leaf seasons in the country. With insider information from the locals, Sunseeker has compiled several favorite tips for enjoying fall in the mountains.

GO ON A SCENIC DRIVE

Stunning scenic drives for cars, motorcyclists and cyclists surround Asheville. The famous Blue Ridge Parkway winds around some of the highest peaks in the eastern U.S. Stop at any of the dozens of lookouts along the Parkway

for colorful photo opportunities. With a variety of elevations, the Parkway features fall at its best throughout the entire leaf peeping season. In late September and early October, visitors should head to higher elevations above 5,000 feet. By mid-October the fall colors are moving down the mountainsides to the 3,000 to 4,000-foot range. The grand color finale is from late October to early November, when Asheville area elevations less than 2,000 feet are ablaze in brilliance. Another prime fall drive is the US 276 through Pisgah National Forest, which travels by roadside Looking Glass Falls. To stay up-to-date on where to find the most vivid foliage, visit the Weekly Fall Color Report at fallinthemountains.com.

ENJOY HIKING HAPPINESS

Fall is a magical time to hike the mountains surrounding Asheville. The waterfalls, framed by dramatic displays of colors from nature’s fall palette, are breathtakingly beautiful. Top choices are Crabtree Falls off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Looking Glass Falls along US 276 and Rainbow Falls just outside of Gorges State Park. For stunning vistas, Black Balsam Knob, Craggy Gardens and Graveyard Fields are favorite hiking destinations.

THANK YOU ALLEGIANT

Thank you so much for offering affordable plane tickets and great customer service. You made our dream trip to Hawaii a reality, which has created family memories that will last forever.

– Rebecca A, Utah

I would simply like to thank all involved for your care and cheerfulness during mine and my wife’s recent trip from Des Moines to Phoenix. I have flown many other carriers in the past but none other had made our trips more comfy. Thanks for the military discounts and perks also!

- Albert G, Iowa

My husband and I flew yesterday and we wanted to tell you that the crew was outstanding. It was my husband’s birthday; the pilot had the plane sing to him. It was by far one of the most enjoyable flights we have ever had and we’ll fly Allegiant again.

HAROLD “TIM” WRIGHT

Judy Jauregui and our newest addition to our fleet

BONJOUR, AIRBUS! By Kerry McGee

I

n May, we welcomed our latest Airbus A320 to our fleet – the first of 12 scheduled for delivery this year. This marks an exciting milestone in our transition to an all-Airbus fleet by 2019, which will improve our overall efficiency and allow us to continue offering our affordable fares. In celebration of its inaugural flight from the French city of Toulouse to its new home in Sanford, Florida, five lucky Allegiant team members were invited to come along. Each was selected based on their video submission explaining why they love working at Allegiant. Here are some of the highlights:

Christine Harper, Aircraft Mechanic, Las Vegas – “Working for Allegiant has allowed me to do my favorite things – work on airplanes, travel, and make new friends wherever I go!”

Matthew Weissman, Flight Attendant, Cincinnati – “I love working

for a company that is full of so many engaging and supportive leaders and team members.”

Trisha Kaiser, Flight Attendant, Tampa / St. Pete – “I grew up in a small

town and my family couldn’t afford to travel to many places. I love that Allegiant offers affordable flights to so many destinations, and I love seeing our travelers able to visit them.”

Josh Foltz, Captain, Orlando / Sanford – “Allegiant is full of great

employees. I love that they support people with families and that I get a chance to see mine every night after I do what I love doing most – flying!”

Judy Jauregui, Leisure Products Marketing Coordinator, Las Vegas –

“From our education assistance program, to our local running team and our amazing flight benefits, Allegiant has helped me become a college graduate, finish my first 10k and travel all around the world!” All of the video submissions were an amazing display of why our team members love to work hard to make trips like yours possible.

MAKE-A-WISH ®

Rowen and the crew

TIME TO BE A KID AGAIN ALLEGIANT IS PROUD OF ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH MAKE-A-WISH® By Christopher Lewis

R

Photo of Rowen and the crew courtesy of Make-A-Wish Nebraska; the Vertin family courtesy of Betty Vertin

owen Vertin, 8, of Hastings, Nebraska, can tell you everything you would ever want to know about “America Ninja Warrior.” He can tell you which town all of the competitors are from and where they qualified. He knows at which obstacle they were knocked out last year. He follows “America Ninja Warrior” like kids followed baseball decades ago. He’s just like any other kid following his favorite athletes in his favorite sport. But Rowen faces a challenge far different than most other kids face. Rowen, along with two of his brothers (Max, 11 and Charlie, 6), is diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle degeneration and weakness; eventually affecting the heart and lungs. Rowen, for the most part, gets around with the assistance of a motorized scooter and has recently lost the ability to run and walk up and down the stairs. It’s a life that’s far from easy, but Rowen and his family have each other and do the best they can. But thanks to Allegiant and Make-A-Wish®, Rowen, his five siblings and his parents, got a chance to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip in June to Las Vegas for VIP access to the taping of “America Ninja Warrior.” Rowen was able to tour the course, spend time with the hosts, and even meet some of his favorite athletes. It was a moment where he could forget about treatments and the struggles of living with Duchenne and just be allowed some time to be a kid again.

“I was amazed at the impact this trip had on all my children,” said Betty Vertin, Rowen’s mom. “It was the best day of Rowen's life, and my other kids got it and were happy for him. I will always remember the smiles on their faces as a famous ninja warrior walked towards Rowen; only they were watching Rowen, not the warrior. They wanted to see his happiness.” Since 2012, Allegiant has been a proud supporter of Make-A-Wish® and has donated over 800 Wish flights and over $1.5 million in the renovation of Make-A-Wish® of Southern Nevada’s headquarters. Additionally, Allegiant donates $1 per sale of each “Wingz Pack” aboard its flights directly to Make-A-Wish®. To find out how you can help make wishes come true, visit wish.org.
