The dining scene in Las Vegas continues to impress even the most jaded foodies thanks to several remarkable restaurants that have recently opened. A reimagination of the traditional steakhouse, Carversteak inside Resorts World Las Vegas cooks up a dinner experience that’s both sophisticated and playful. Not only does the stylish restaurant offer guests a wide range of succulent steaks to choose from — including Japanese, Australian and domestic Wagyu — but it also lets diners pick the knife they want to cut their steak with from a wooden box showcasing five custom steak knives. A variety of impeccable seafood and vegan selections are available, too, and diners can end their evening with a trio of fresh-baked cookies with giant chocolate googly eyes on them. carversteak.com At The Noodle Den inside SAHARA Las Vegas, guests can savor an extensive selection of Northern Chinese dishes for dinner from acclaimed chef Guoming “Sam” Xin. Every item on the menu explodes with flavor, from the handmade Pork & Chive Pan Fried Dumplings to the delicate Spicy Minced Chicken Fried Rice. Xin is renowned for his hand-pulled noodles, though, so don’t leave without trying one of “The Noodle Man’s” hand-pulled noodle soups; the Taiwan Beef Brisket is especially tasty. saharalasvegas. com/restaurants-bars/noodle-den Former Fashion Show mall favorite Sugar Factory American Brasserie has moved into a sweet space at Harmon Corner. Its fare remains just as Instagram-worthy as the drinks and décor, particularly the Rainbow Sliders that come with a keepsake rubber ducky. Burger connoisseurs will be impressed by Las Vegas’ bevy of burger joints
By Heather Turk
It doesn’t matter where you are in Las Vegas, there’s always a burger joint close by that’s sure to wow taste buds. Many of the city’s best burger joints can be found on the Strip — including several from world-renowned chefs. One of the Strip’s most popular celebrity chef burger restaurants actually just expanded in order to accommodate more guests. Now boasting 282 seats, Gordon Ramsay Burger at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino features a menu of succulent beef burgers made from a blend of chuck, brisket and short rib. Whether guests order the Hell’s Kitchen Burger topped with asadero cheese, roasted jalapeños, avocado, roasted tomatoes and jalapeño aioli, or the simpler Ultimate Cheeseburger topped with aged provolone, Dubliner cheese and Boursin cheese, every bite explodes with flavor thanks to the triblend patty that’s cooked over apple and alder wood. The restaurant’s selection of snacks, sides and sweets is equally delightful, particularly the Street Corn Dip

Many of its burgers are inspired by flavors from around the world, like the Hawaii Five Ohhhhh topped with Swiss cheese, coleslaw, pineapple, onion relish and teriyaki mayo. Guests can order a juicy half-pound Angus beef patty with almost every topping imaginable, from cheese curds, marinara and mozzarella (the Italian-inspired Mozzerati burger), to BBQ pork, BBQ sauce, peppered bacon, crispy onion tanglers, Swiss cheese, lettuce and mayo (the Southern-style Honky Tonk burger). This summer, there’s no better place on the Strip to kick off the weekend a little early than The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ Sunset Cocktail Hour. Taking place every Thursday from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m., the poolside affair debuted last year and quickly made a splash with guests, attracting approximately 2,500 people during its inaugural season. Transforming the patio on the north end of the resort’s Boulevard Pool into a rooftop cocktail haven, the seasonal event invites hotel guests as well as the general public to enjoy live music from an eclectic lineup of DJs — including French DJ/saxophonist Natty Rico — while relishing a menu of tasty food and beverage offerings and striking Strip views. “Kicking off the weekend early on Thursday is fitting for guests traveling to Las Vegas on an extended weekend or locals who are looking to hit the Strip after a long week,” said Julian Griffiths, senior vice president of food and beverage at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. “With live entertainment, the best views of the Las Vegas
Strip and unparalleled food and drink offerings, Sunset Cocktail Hour is a can’t-miss event.” In addition to featuring some of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas’ signature drinks, Sunset Cocktail Hour boasts several exclusive cocktail offerings as well as a Summer Spritz Cart where guests can create their own margarita featuring Calirosa Tequila or a signature Campari Spritz with fresh fruits and house-made syrups. A mouthwatering menu of “casual fare with a twist” is also available, featuring such delectable new dishes as the Smoked Pork Belly Steamed Buns, Crispy Pizza Pockets and Shrimp Salad Lettuce Cups. Sunset Cocktail Hour runs until Oct. 27. Admission is complimentary, with most food and beverage items priced from $10 to $20. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to attend. cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/boulevard-pool

Allegiant’s new travel packages will score a touchdown with football fans
By Heather Turk
The 2022-2023 NFL season doesn’t kick off until Sept. 8, but any football fan knows that it’s never too early to start thinking about the upcoming season — especially with Allegiant’s all-new Football Fan Packages. Designed to get Allegiant customers to Las Vegas to cheer on their favorite teams at Allegiant Stadium, the travel packages formed as a natural synergy stemming from the airline’s partnership with the Las Vegas Raiders and the opening of Allegiant Stadium. “NFL fans love to travel to away games and selected Las Vegas as the number one destination they’d want to visit to attend a professional football game,” said Sadie Morris, senior manager of partnership marketing for Allegiant Travel Company. “With our partnership, we were able to combine tickets to game days along with airfare on Allegiant and a hotel stay with one of our partner hotels. This forms the perfect offering for football fans.”

Additionally, passengers will receive priority boarding on their Allegiant flight, a confirmed seat assignment and be able to bring a complimentary carry-on bag and checked bag.

What it takes to become a gondolier at The Venetian By Heather Turk
No trip to The Venetian Resort Las Vegas is complete without experiencing a gondola ride. More than 500,000 guests are serenaded by The Venetian’s talented gondoliers each year while aboard one of its 18 house-made gondolas, but it takes so much more than just natural singing talent to keep the popular Las Vegas attraction afloat. “A gondolier spends quite a bit of time on a gondola with our guests, so they must be personable, love to entertain and have a desire to share their knowledge and love of The Venetian with our guests,” said Tina Peetris, vice president of retail at the resort, who handles the overall operation of the attraction. “The gondoliers are our ultimate ambassadors.” The Venetian currently employs about 90 gondoliers, including one who has been working since the gondola attraction debuted in 1999. Each gondolier undergoes approximately a month of training before they can take passengers out on the water, including 40 hours of rowing experience navigating the resort’s challenging canals. Not surprisingly, all gondoliers have experience singing and learn approximately a dozen songs that they can 26

perform, like “That’s Amore,” “Bella Notte” and “’O sole mio.” The gondoliers also regularly participate in safety drills to provide passengers with the safest experience possible. On a typical day, a gondolier performs about 20 rotations on either the resort’s indoor or outdoor canal. Peetris noted that the design of the resort is so detailed, one of the most common questions guests ask the gondoliers is where they reside. “The Grand Canal is lined with facades that look like they could be Italian buildings, and we have many guests ask if that’s where the gondoliers live,” Peetris said. That authenticity, though, is what Peetris believes makes The Venetian’s gondola experience “second to none” — outside of Venice, of course. venetianlasvegas.com/resort/ attractions/gondola-rides

Las Vegas may often be called a Disneyland for adults, but that doesn’t mean families won’t find plenty of spectacular productions they can enjoy together during their Vegas vacation. Parents can actually take their kids to the hottest club in town thanks to Las Vegas’ newest must-see show, “iLuminate.” Performing at The STRAT Hotel, Casino & SkyPod, the electrifying production invites ticket holders to step into “Club iLuminate” as the dance troupe “America’s Got Talent” named the “Best New Act in America” performs in complete darkness. Wearing custom LED light suits that create lighting effects that move along with each choreographed dance move, the dancers perform to a variety of hit songs sure to have kids and adults alike grooving to the music — from Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” to Billie Eilish’s “bad guy.” thestrat.com Longtime Las Vegas favorite Blue Man Group continues to hit all the right notes with audience

“AMYSTIKA” is Criss Angel’s most revealing production yet
By Heather Turk
Photo of Franco Dragone and Criss Angel by Denise Truscello; Lead and story photo by Jerry Metellus
Criss Angel’s new Las Vegas production, “AMYSTIKA,” shows the iconic illusionist like never before: raw, vulnerable and just like everyone else. Performing inside the state-of-the art Criss Angel Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, “AMYSTIKA” is the highly anticipated prequel to Angel’s immensely successful “MINDFREAK” residency — despite the fact that it runs after Angel’s acclaimed rock concert for magic (“MINDFREAK” plays Wednesday through Sunday at 7 p.m., “AMYSTIKA” follows at 9:30 p.m.). The first-ever collaboration between Angel and prolific director Franco Dragone (Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystère” and “O”), the jaw-dropping spectacle opened on April 2 and tells the story of how a 12-year-old boy named Christopher Sarantakos went on to become one of the world’s most famous magicians. “This is before Criss Angel — what it took for me to become this person that people think they know,” Angel said. “It really gives people the opportunity to realize that I’m not special. I’m just like everybody else and if I can do it, you can do it, too. Believe in your dreams and live them.” Angel and Dragone worked hard to “present an experience that people can truly escape their reality with,” creating an immersive, visual feast that features everything from a near-blinding blizzard in the theater to the haunting tableaus Dragone has become known for throughout his career. In the blink of an eye, audiences will be transported to Angel’s childhood bedroom to meet his old pal Freddy, or to a colorful carnival to watch “Houdini” perform a heart-pounding water escape act. Each scene takes audiences one step closer to the Mindfreak we all know and love today, while acknowledging the trials and tribulations
Angel noted that the cast of “AMYSTIKA” is made up of “incredibly talented people”
Angel faced along the way — including his son Johnny Crisstopher’s cancer diagnosis and accusations that Angel stole some of his material. Angel hopes audiences leave “AMYSTIKA” equally in awe over its inspiring message as its show-stopping visual effects. “There are a lot of first-time visual effects and illusions in the show that I’m really excited about, as well as a couple (like ‘In Two’) that I removed from “MINDFREAK” cause of time and redid, but visual effects mean nothing if there’s not an emotion that you feel when you watch them,” Angel stated. “There needs to be a thread that weaves the whole experience together like a song, where people understand how the story connects to them without having dialogue. As COVID taught us, life can be very short. We never know when our moment has arrived where we will no longer be on this earth, so it’s so important to be a positive force in the world and inspire people not to waste their life, but to live it. Whatever you want to do, it’s not too late.” Franco Dragone crissangel.com & Criss Angel SUNSEEKER

Soul Asylum will share the 1st St. Stage with fellow rockers Hoobastank and Alien Ant Farm on July 30 as part of the Downtown Rocks concert series
ONE SIZZLIN’ EVENT Fremont Street Experience’s Downtown Rocks announces its hottest concert lineup yet. While there’s never a bad time to visit Fremont Street Experience, summertime is always an exciting time to visit thanks to Downtown Rocks. One of the Entertainment Capital of the World’s most beloved events, Downtown Rocks attracts thousands of music fans each year to Fremont Street Experience’s 1st and 3rd St. stages to enjoy free performances by some of the music industry’s biggest stars. Noteworthy acts who have previously performed as part of the free annual concert series include Poison frontman Bret Michaels and “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” rockers Good Charlotte. This year’s lineup is especially jampacked, as the concert series kicked off in April with country music stars Parmalee (“Carolina”) and will culminate in November with a performance by Stone Temple Pilots (“Vasoline”). Acts performing in July and August include Southern rock band Molly Hatchet (“Flirtin’ with Disaster”) on July 4; former Skid Row lead singer Sebastian Bach (“18 and Life”) on July 23; rock bands Hoobastank (“The Reason”), Soul Asylum (“Runaway Train”) and Alien Ant Farm (“Smooth Criminal”) on July 30; and Canadian rock band Simple Plan (“Welcome to My Life”) on Aug. 20. Given the popularity of the free concert series, it’s advised that concertgoers arrive early for the best possible vantage point.
Guests can relish a vintage Vegas dining experience at Top of Binion’s Steakhouse
For those who would rather save their voice to cheer on their favorite sports teams to victory, Fremont Street Experience provides easy access to the largest sports betting experience in the world. The three-story sportsbook at Circa Resort & Casino not only has a 78-million-megapixel screen to watch the latest games on, but also an on-site studio that the Vegas Stats & Information Network broadcasts from so bettors can get an in-depth analysis from a roster of experts before placing their wagers. With a 1,000-person viewing capacity, the Circa sportsbook is the next best place for sports fans to be when they can’t attend a game in person. Foodies love Fremont Street Experience, too, as it has everything from fast food favorites like White Castle to some of the city’s most exquisite fine dining establishments. Visitors can actually dine at one of downtown Las Vegas’ most iconic restaurants again, as Top of Binion’s Steakhouse finally reopened on March 10 after temporarily closing in 2020 due to the pandemic. Located on the 24th floor of Binion’s Gambling Hall, the sophisticated steakhouse lets diners feast upon the twinkling lights of Las Vegas while being served by several longtime employees who have many nostalgic stories to share. In addition to such timeless dishes as Benny’s Chicken Fried Lobster for Two — two butterflied petite North Atlantic lobster tails breaded and fried golden brown, served with caper rémoulade and hollandaise sauce — the delectable dinner menu features several new items diners will want to try, like the Maple Bourbon Glazed Pork Belly appetizer and the New Zealand Lamb Rack. Guests can further complement their impeccable dining experience with one of the restaurant’s heavenly house-made desserts, like the Baked Alaska Flambé that’s finished tableside. A NEW ERA OF ENTERTAINMENT The curtain rises on The Smith Center’s second decade in business
Postmodern Jukebox’s The Grand Reopening Tour stops by Reynolds Hall on June 17 at 7:30 p.m.
By Heather Turk
It’s hard to imagine Las Vegas having any type of entertainment void, but back in 1994, a group of Southern Nevada community leaders met to discuss a bold idea: they wanted to create a world-class performing arts center in the Entertainment Capital of the World. While it took nearly 20 years of planning and fundraising, The Smith Center for the Performing Arts finally opened on March 10, 2012. The $470 million attraction in downtown Las Vegas instantly became a cultural hub where people could gather to enjoy highcaliber performances at one of its four performance spaces: the 2,050-seat Reynolds Hall, the 244-seat Myron’s at The Smith Center, the 250-seat Troesh Studio Theater and the 1.7-acre Donald W. Reynolds Symphony Park. “Celebrating our 10th anniversary this spring wasn’t just a milestone for The Smith Center, but for all of Southern Nevada,” said Myron Martin, The Smith Center’s president and CEO. “It’s only because the entire community embraced our mission that we’ve been able to present hundreds of world-class music, theater and dance shows each year, completely changing the performing arts scene here as we know it.” The Smith Center will continue to showcase a wide range of programming this June through August, from concerts by pop-jazz phenomenon Postmodern Jukebox on June 17 and pianist John Tesh on June 18 to a multimedia presentation with wildlife photographer Brian Skerry on July 16 as part of the 38

THE SCOOP ON PHOENIX COFFEE Where to go for the best brew in the Valley
By Teresa Bitler
Phoenix may not seem like a coffee-drinking destination. However, no matter the time of year—or what the weather is like—Phoenicians love their coffee. Starbucks and Dutch Bros. may line Valley streets, but it’s the local coffeehouses that truly shine.

PEIXOTO COFFEE The beans used at this popular downtown Chandler coffeehouse come primarily from owner Julia Peixoto Peters’ family farm in Brazil. Pronounced “payshow-tow,” Peixoto’s approach to coffee is imported from Brazil, too. Instead of artificially flavored syrups and whipped cream, the drinks at Peixoto use natural flavors only, if any flavorings at all. Allegiant passengers can order pour over, espresso-forward drinks like lattes and nitro cold brew. For those who prefer something else, Peixoto also offers chai, loose leaf tea, matcha and hot chocolate. Hungry guests can nibble on a pastry or indulge in affogato or a nitro coffee float. peixotocoffee.com

A DAY TRIP TO THE RED ROCKS Just two hours north of Phoenix, Sedona delights with scenic views, outdoor adventure and more
Vistas of red rocks abound in Sedona
By Teresa Bitler
Surrounded by red rocks and nearly 2 million acres of national forest, Sedona is one of the most beautiful spots in the state. It’s also a great escape from the triple-digit heat of Phoenix. On a day trip, Allegiant passengers can hike, take a jeep tour and shop for one-of-a-kind finds.
Go off road to see even more
HIKE TO DEVIL’S BRIDGE One of the most popular hikes in the area, Devil’s Bridge Trail crosses the iron-tinted earth to the top of a 50-foot-high arch. The hike ranges from an easy, 3.6-mile journey to a moderately challenging 4-mile or strenuous 5.8-mile trek depending on the route you take to the trailhead. Whichever way you go, the trail ends with a heart-pounding climb up a natural staircase to the arch. The Instagrammable views are worth the workout, though.
Photos courtesy of Visit Sedona
Want other options? The Hike House, a hiking outfitter in Sedona, can recommend hikes based on preferred distance, difficulty, and how much time you have. TAKE A JEEP TOUR Don Pratt launched the very first Jeep tour ever in Sedona in 1960. Today, while vendors all over the world offer Jeep tours, Pink Jeep Tours still delivers one of the best experiences. Allegiant passengers visiting Sedona for the first time will want to book the company’s scenic Broken Arrow Tour, which includes a steep descent down The Road of No Return. Pink Jeep Tours also offers ancient ruins, vortex, wildlife and winery tours. For those who would rather drive themselves, several Sedona vendors rent out Jeeps and ATVs for the day and provide a map of the best nearby trails.
Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village
SHOP AT LOCAL GALLERIES Sedona attracts artists, who sell their paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works in the galleries lining State Routes 179 and 89A. Popular galleries populate the downtown area and The Shops at Hyatt Pinon, but Allegiant passengers won’t want to miss the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village. Inspired by the Tlaquepaque shopping district on the outskirts of Guadalajara, Mexico, the Sedona shopping center features Spanish colonial architecture, stone-paved plazas and sycamore trees overhead. It also has more than 50 boutiques, art galleries and specialty shops. SUNSEEKER

SAN DIEGO
Lakeside San Diego Discover water fun beyond the coast
By Stacey Zable
Photo of Lake Jennings courtesy of Lake Jennings; Santee Lakes by Erin Goins; Relaxing at Santee Lakes Michael Ranson
San Diego may be best known for its beautiful beaches along the Pacific, but it is also home to 20 freshwater lakes and reservoirs. Explore beyond the coast and city with recreational opportunities on and off the lakeside waters. Check with each lake to ensure if swimming is permitted or fishing licenses are required. Top lake choices include: LAKE CUYAMACA Located an hour’s drive from San Diego in Julian, Lake Cuyamaca sits at an elevation of 4,600 feet. Mountains and pine trees provide the backdrop for adventures that include boating, birdwatching, and hiking. Freshwater and fly fishing in the lake features opportunities to catch Florida-strain largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill and sturgeon. Plus, the lake is stocked with some 45,000 pounds of trout each year. Camping and cabins for rent provide overnight accommodations. lakecuyamaca.net LAKE JENNINGS Escape to scenic Lake Jennings, which combines lakeside views with wooded areas surrounding it in Lakeside, East County. Keep an eye out for deer and other wildlife. Paddleboat, rowboat or motorboat rentals are available. Fishermen will be thrilled by the nearly 30,000 pounds of stocked rainbow trout and channel catfish each year. Family fun for kids includes

ladder golf, foosball and a covered playground. Birders can spot herons, eagles, hawks, falcons and more. Hiking trails include a 5.5 mile loop around the lake. Campsites available. lakejennings.org LAKE MURRAY Only 20 minutes from downtown, Lake Murray is part of the 8,000-acre Mission Trails Regional Park. The lake draws hikers, runners and cyclists as well as birders looking to spot some of the 149 bird species. For those seeking time on the lake, rental boats, pedal boats and kayaks are at the ready. Fishermen can find Floridastrain largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, black crappie and trout. Picnic and barbecue areas round out the lakeside fun. mtrp.org/lake-murray; sandiego.gov/ reservoirs-lakes/murray-reservoir SANTEE LAKES RECREATION PRESERVE This 194-acre park in East County just outside of San Diego is home to seven recycled water lakes. Celebrating over 60 years of operation, it offers more than five miles of trails for walking, biking and running. Birders will be delighted by the over 200 species of birds that flock to the reserve. The lakes are stocked year-round with fish, and visitors can explore the waters via pedal boat, rowboat or canoe rentals. Playgrounds add to the family fun. Camp out or book their lakefront or floating cabins with patios/decks, pedal boats, air conditioning/heat, flat screen TVs, bathrooms and kitchens. santeelakes.com SAN VICENTE RESERVOIR The largest reservoir in the city is San Vicente, located 25 miles northeast of downtown San Diego. A fisherman’s favorite, anglers can reel in crappie, sunfish, channel catfish and Florida-strain largemouth bass. Besides boating and kayaking, visitors can opt to waterski or go wakeboarding. Picnic tables and barbecues complete the day in the sun. sandiego.gov/ reservoirs-lakes/san-vicente-reservoir SUNSEEKER

SIP, SAVOR AND EXPLORE
Santa Maria Valley offers Allegiant passengers a fun getaway without the crowds
By Teresa Bitler
Located along the coast in Central California, Santa Maria Valley beckons with its relaxed vibe, outdoor adventures and great wines. Allegiant passengers will find rolling hills and affordable activities, but it’s what they won’t find—crowds and packed tourist attractions— that may matter even more. SIP The Santa Maria Valley AVA boasts more than 7,500 acres of vineyards and 34 wine tasting rooms. While wine lovers can sample cabernet and merlot, the region specializes in chardonnay, pinot noir and Syrah, thanks to a unique geography that produces a Mediterranean climate.
There are 34 wine tasting rooms in Santa Maria Valley
One way to sample the AVA’s wines is to drive the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail, a 30-mile route between Santa Maria and Los Olivos. Along the way, visitors can stop at 14 wineries, including Rancho Sisquoc Winery and Fess Parker Winery & Vineyard. Closer to the coast, the Santa Maria Wine Trolley loops past Presqui’le, Cottonwood Canyon and Costa de Oro wineries during the summer. As a bonus, Allegiant passengers who enjoy sipping the DAOU Family Estates wines poured onboard can visit the winery in person while in the area. DAOU is located about 70 miles north of Santa Maria near downtown Paso Robles. 56

Ranching is still a way of life in Santa Maria Valley
Californ ia
SAVOR Santa Maria Valley has its own style of barbecue that dates back more than 150-years to when local ranchers would host feasts for their vaqueros (cowboys). Instead of slow-roasted meats slathered in sauce, Santa Maria chefs grill meat seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic over native red oak coals. Traditionally, the barbecue consists of beef tri-tip or sirloin with sides of locally grown pinquito beans, garlic bread and fresh salad.
EXPERIENC ES
Ten Santa Maria Valley restaurants specialize in the barbecue style, but none are as iconic as The Hitching Post in Casmalia. It serves steaks, seafood, ribs, chicken and lamb in the Santa Maria style. The kitchen is behind a glass wall so guests can watch the chef and his team at work.
Photos by Teresa Bitler
OUTDOOR ADVENTURE With so much good food and wine, travelers will need a break to work off all the extra calories. Santa Maria Valley has 24 hikes to choose from, including the easy, 1-mile Oso Flaco Lake Trail (2 miles roundtrip). A favorite with birders, this trail navigates a freshwater lake and sand dunes on its way to an ocean overlook.
The Hitching Post serves traditional Santa Maria style barbecue
Other activities abound. At the Luffa Farm in nearby Nipomo, visitors can learn how luffa plants become bath accessories. Nearby, Guadalupe is home to the Dunes Center, where nature enthusiasts can learn about the area’s sand dunes as well as the flora and fauna there. The center also has an excellent display on Cecil B. DeMille’s 1923 movie, “The Ten Commandments,” the set of which remains buried in the sand. For more information about Santa Maria Valley, visit santamariavalley.com.

LONE STAR BARBECUE By Heather Turk

Texans are passionate about their barbecue and will happily recommend their favorites, whether it’s a brick-and-mortar restaurant or a casual food truck. FRANKLIN BARBECUE Austin’s historic East Side is home to Franklin Barbecue, a laid-back, eat-in or take-out restaurant that patrons insist is arguably unbeatable. Founder Aaron Franklin, bestselling author of several barbecue books, recipient of the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef, and winner of Bon Appetit’s Best BBQ Joint in America, credits success to “cooking with your heart.” The undeniable proof lies in succulent slow-cooked ribs, pulled pork, sausage and oh-so-tender brisket served up with their sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. franklinbbq.com ROLLIN SMOKE Everyone loves food trucks, and Rollin Smoke on Austin’s East Side delivers, both in its atmosphere as well as its food. Expect a no-frills walkup, a few scattered picnic tables and perfectly smoked barbecue. Ranking high on the favorites list are pulled pork tacos, brisket sandwich and the jalapeno

Stand out selections include the smoked meat plate of brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken or turkey breast and hearty overstuffed sandwiches. Their oaksmoked chicken wings are tangy and bursting with flavor, and their handmade sausage is the real deal. A cold Texas craft brew or their legendary Bloody Mary laced with their own zesty barbecue sauce are great ways to wash down their deliecious barbecue cuisine. stilesswitchbbq.com

Women in Aviation Network Group We empower our Team Members to create Network Groups that resonate with and mean something personal and impactful to them. These Network Groups work with our Diversity & Inclusion Council and advance the visibility of Team Members, while also increasing awareness and encouraging a sense of belonging for all. For Women’s History Month in March 2022, our Women in Aviation Network Group hosted a series of events and programming engaging Team Members from across the system. These events were created to encourage them to take time to learn more about the successes and struggles of females in a maledominated industry. Throughout the month, we featured a variety of leaders both internally and on our @allegiant Instagram, who have collectively spent more than 30 years with Allegiant. By showcasing our operational groups, it was great to celebrate the impact our own leaders have made on the organization, including the
challenges they have overcome. Members of the Network Group expressed a need for additional training and resources to manage their work-life balance, especially amidst the pandemic. We collaborated with an expert partner to provide a free webinar encouraging confidence in establishing boundaries between James work Kawashima, and home. General Manager (LAX)
Last but certainly not least, the Network Group hosted the first ever fireside chat with 5 directors and above across a variety of departments. It was an inspiring hour to learn about the rewards and benefits, but also the risks and challenges, of not only being a female leader but also being one in a male dominated industry. Long term, all of our Network Groups, in collaboration with the Council, Corporate Giving and Talent Acquisition teams, will continue to advocate and promote making aviation careers accessible for as many individuals as possible.
