Each year, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show draws more than 2,400 of the world’s finest Arabian and half-Arabian horses for a week of thrilling competition in pursuit of the coveted “Scottsdale Champion” title. These magnificent animals and their owners gather from around the world to compete for over $1,000,000 in prizes in more than 850 colorful classes. The 61st Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show will take place at the City of Scottsdale’s WestWorld, February 11-21, 2016. The largest event of its kind in the world, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show routinely attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators. In addition to exciting competitions, gala parties, educational seminars and an international cuisine court, the event features more than 300 vendors and trade booths, offering everything from lavish jewelry, clothing and works of art to boots, saddles and gifts. Guests also can stroll the luxurious, exotically decorated stabling areas in which the horses are housed. Although it’s a grand event today, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show had very modest beginnings. It all started in 1953 when horse fancier Ed Tweed stopped by the stable of Pearl Grey Clyde, the first person to bring a purebred Arabian horse to the Valley of the Sun. At that meeting, Tweed proclaimed that he would bring together all Arabian horse owners in Arizona and start an Arabian Horse Association. Two years later, the inaugural Arabian Horse Show was held at the Arizona Biltmore Resort. The event was organized by an all-volunteer group and consisted of 50 horses and just over a dozen exhibitors, all from Arizona and neighboring states. In contrast, the 2013 show featured exhibitors from all 50 states and 12 foreign countries. Following the inaugural event, Arabian horse owner Ann McCormick bought 150 acres of land near Bell Road that became Paradise Park, the new site of the Arabian Horse Show. Due to the amazing success of the event, it outgrew Paradise Park in the mid-1980s and moved on to WestWorld of Scottsdale, a newly developed, much larger facility that proved to be the perfect locale for this incredibly popular show. Each year the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show raises thousands of dollars for local charities. Some that have benefited from recent shows include the March of Dimes, Cox Charities, Crisis Nursery and Horseman’s Distress Fund. For more than 50 years, the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona has been a supporter of charitable organizations and will continue to support such endeavors this year. Club members estimate that over the years, more than 100 charities have benefited substantially from the event. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Sonoran

Desert, the Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show is a must see event that is perfect for the whole family. Join us in Scottsdale next February and watch these magnificent horses compete! Tickets to the Scottsdale Show can be purchased through TicketMaster 800.745.3000 or www.ticketmaster.com. For more information on the show and for local Arabian farm listings, visit the Arabian Horse Association of Arizona’s website, www.scottsdaleshow.com. The Colossal Bloody Mary at Hexx kitchen + bar

CHEERS! LAS VEGAS’ BEST BLOODY MARY BRUNCHES By Heather Turk

L

et’s face it: no brunch is complete without a Bloody Mar y, so it should come as little surprise that the majority of Las Vegas’ best brunch spots serve the popular daytime drink. But if you think ever y Bloody Mar y is the same, then clearly you’ve never ordered one from these restaurants before.

“Cake Boss” star Buddy Valastro’s Italian restaurant serves a family brunch every Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. that features a make-your-own Bloody Mary bar for an additional fee. Guests are given

a keepsake glass and can build their own bottomless creations from an assortment of hot sauces, seasonings and garnishes (Sunseeker recommends using the restaurant’s own Bloody Mary mix and adding a few drops of Habla Diablo Original hot sauce and some Habla Diablo Chelada Zest seasoning for an eyeopening concoction with just the right amount of kick). While you’re at the buffet-style brunch, be sure to try the fresh-carved maple-glazed ham and don’t forget to grab a bag of zonuts from the dessert spread.

HEXX KITCHEN + BAR AT PARIS LAS VEGAS

One of the Strip’s best new restaurants offers an array of creative Bloody Mary concoctions on its brunch menu, available Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. While fans of the drink will want to indulge in The Colossal, which comes served in a mini pitcher and garnished with bacon, jumbo shrimp, a beef stick and an Alaskan king crab leg, the tasty Yellow Ghost—a mixture of ghost chili vodka, yellow tomato gazpacho, celery and cucumber—will convert even non-Bloody Mary drinkers into instant fans. Whichever cocktail you choose, don’t leave Hexx without trying the Overcooked Bacon or the to-die-for Cinnaroll Waffle topped with cream cheese frosting. Yum!

MORELS FRENCH STEAKHOUSE & BISTRO AT THE PALAZZO

Serving brunch Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., this elegant restaurant truly goes the extra mile by offering a Handcrafted “Bloody” Cart that’s rolled out to each table. Guests can choose how spicy they want their Bloody Mary (or Bloody Maria, which is made with tequila instead of vodka) and watch as the drink is made tableside using fresh-cut herbs, shaved horseradish, hot sauce and pickled garnish. Diners can then pair their selection with one of the restaurant’s delectable dishes, like the Quiche Lorraine or Onion Soup Gratinée. LAS VEGAS

NEW & NOTEWORTHY THREE RECENT CULINARY ADDITIONS IN LAS VEGAS WORTH TRYING IN THE NEW YEAR By Heather Turk

T

If your New Year’s resolution is to tr y something new in 2016, you’re in luck. The restaurant scene in Las Vegas always has something fresh for diners to enjoy, like these three scrumptious spots.

PETE ROSE BAR & GRILL

Named after baseball’s “Hit King,” this Strip-side eatery across from ARIA Resort & Casino elevates traditional pub grub with a menu of quality American dishes and specialty items honoring Rose’s love affair with the cities he’s played for (Cincinnati, Philadelphia and Montreal). The lightly breaded Chicken Tenders and Triple BBB burger—a succulent beef patty topped with tomato aioli, burrata, arugula and peppers—both score a homerun, as do the Cheetos-covered Cheesy Poofs. Not surprisingly, guests can catch the latest sporting events on 32 high-definition televisions located throughout the restaurant and admire memorabilia from Rose’s career. Be sure to check out the display case of autographed baseballs featuring fun messages like, “No steroids in me or the steak.”

SALUTE AT RED ROCK RESORT

Inspired by the traditional cuisine of Southern Italy, executive chef Luciano Sautto’s Salute is one of the best Italian restaurants in town. While nothing on the menu disappoints, highlights include the Crispy Arancini made with fontinella cheese, ricotta and Bolognese and the Salute Signature Pasta: fettuccini and vodka sauce prepared tableside in a Parmesan cheese wheel. Be sure to come hungry, as you’ll not only want to try several different items, but the entrée portions—particularly the pizza-sized Veal Milanese “Saltimbocca” (veal cutlet with fontina cheese and smoked prosciutto)—are huge. You’re probably best off ordering an entrée and a couple of different pasta dishes to share with the table so you can sample more of what Salute has to offer.

RIVEA AT DELANO LAS VEGAS

Feast upon a menu of mouthwatering French and Italian-influenced cuisine while soaking up stunning 180-degree views of the city below at this Riviera-inspired restaurant from worldrenowned chef Alain Ducasse. Located on the 64th floor, guests can start their dinner with a selection of small plates before digging in to one of the main courses, like the flavorful Crusted Chicken Breast with lemon confit. Whatever you decide on, be sure to order the superb Seasonal Mushroom Risotto (seriously, you’re going to want seconds!) and don’t forget to start or end your evening at the adjoining Skyfall Lounge. For a tasty cocktail that’s “shaken, not stirred,” try the Shake It Off: jalapeño-infused Espolón blanco tequila mixed with strawberry lemon juice and Dolin dry vermouth.

World-famous dance crew Jabbawockeez

ON THE MOVE JABBAWOCKEEZ FOLLOW THEIR “JREAMZ” BACK TO MGM GRAND By H. Wadowski

J

abbawockeez may be known for their smooth dance moves, but in November 2015 the world-famous dance crew made headlines for moves of a different kind when they premiered their new show, “JREAMZ,” inside MGM Grand. Following MGM Resorts International’s decision to develop a 5,000-seat concert venue at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, it was announced in July 2015 that Blue Man Group—who performed inside the space—would be returning to the property they first debuted in, taking over Jabbawockeez’s custom-built showroom inside Luxor. As part of the deal, Jabbawockeez would return to MGM Grand, the resort they originally premiered at in 2010.

Photos courtesy of Jabbawockeez

“This is the second time this happened,” laughed original Jabbawockeez member Joe Larot, referring to the fact the group moved to Luxor in 2013 after Blue Man Group moved from The Venetian to Jabbawockeez’s previous showroom inside Monte Carlo. “Once they dropped the bomb, though, we had a week to mull it over and we realized this just might work.”

Presents America’s Best Dance Crew” winners know all too well. “There were a lot of times our parents were breathing down our necks and we didn’t really see a future [dancing], but we stuck together,” Larot said. Now, even though they’ve been busy over the past six years developing three different shows for Las Vegas (“MÜS.I.C.” at MGM Grand and Monte Carlo, “PRiSM” at Luxor and “JREAMZ” at MGM Grand), Jabbawockeez can honestly say that if you choose a job you love, you’ll never have to work a day in your life. “We always say we work while we whistle instead of whistle while we work,” Larot stated. “JREAMZ” runs Thursday through Monday at 7 p.m. with an additional 9:30 p.m. show on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. On Jan. 1 and 2 there will be performances at 4, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets start at $49.99, plus tax and fees. For more information, visit jbwkz.com.

Now performing inside the recently renovated Jabbawockeez Theater—the former “Crazy Horse Paris” cabaret—Jabbawockeez’s new show takes audiences on an up-close-and-personal voyage that explores the world of fantasy versus reality. Even though Larot likened the show to watching an IMAX film, with its impressive projections by Montreal visual content and production company 4U2C, that make the stage seem much larger than it actually is, he noted that the intimate space “exposes the art” more. “This stage really lets our talents shine,” he said. “We’re very exposed, so we can’t hide if we make a mistake.” At the heart of the show is the message to follow your dreams, something the “Randy Jackson

Mariah Carey in “MARIAH #1 TO INFINITY”

TWO HOMECOMINGS THAT HIT ALL THE RIGHT NOTES RESIDENT ARTISTS ELTON JOHN AND MARIAH CAREY RETURN TO THE COLOSSEUM AT CAESARS PALACE By Heather Turk

T

he Colosseum at Caesars Palace may have been built for Celine Dion, but ever since the showroom opened in 2003 with Dion’s first Las Vegas residency, “A New Day…,” several iconic artists have gone on to call the prestigious venue home. While Dion will continue to perform her second hit Las Vegas residency, “Celine,” select dates in January and February, The Colosseum will be welcoming two of its other resident artists back to the stage in early 2016 as well.

Photos by Denise Truscello

Up first is The Colosseum’s other longtime headliner, Elton John, who, like Dion, is currently in the midst of his second residency inside the theater: “The Million Dollar Piano.” The production features the legendary showman at his best, performing a mix of

iconic hits and classic album tracks such as “Rocket Man,” “Crocodile Rock” and even “Circle of Life” from his five-decades-long career. While at the centerpiece of the show is the production’s namesake piano—an engineering marvel featuring more than 68 LED video screens created by Yamaha—it’s John’s vocals and piano-playing skills that truly steal the spotlight, resulting in a well-deserved standing ovation after almost every number. After John wraps up his January concert dates, the best-selling female artist of all time (and one of The Colosseum’s newest resident artists), Mariah Carey, will return to perform her residency: “MARIAH #1 TO INFINITY.” True to its name, the show features all 18 of Carey’s No. 1 hits performed in chronological order—everything from 1990’s “Vision of Love” to 2008’s “Touch My Body”—before Carey ends the evening with her latest single, “Infinity.” Though she is accompanied onstage by a six-piece band, three back-up vocalists and two DJs, it is Carey’s remarkable vocals that truly command the audience’s attention. Even the show’s 10 talented dancers, choreographed by the double Emmy Award-winning married choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo (better known as Nappytabs), can’t take the focus away from Carey’s incredible five-octave range. A Las Vegas residency that’s not to be missed, there’s no doubt Carey gives her all during the unforgettable production. Elton John’s “The Million Dollar Piano” returns to The Colosseum stage Jan. 19-20, 22-23, 26-27 and 29-31 at 7:30 p.m.; “MARIAH #1 TO INFINITY” runs Feb. 2, 5-6, 10, 13-14, 17 and 19-20 at 8 p.m. Tickets for both shows range from $55 to $250, plus tax and fees. Celine Dion wows the audience with her amazing vocal range during her show, “Celine”

CELINE DION RETURN OF THE SUPERSTAR MAKES THE LAS VEGAS STRIP IS EVEN BRIGHTER By Debbie Hall

C

eline Dion has returned to the Las Vegas Strip headlining in “Celine” at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace to enthusiastic audiences in standing-room only shows. As a performer, Celine ascended to new heights, becoming an international super star. As a wife and mother, Celine demonstrated her all-encompassing love and devotion when she took time off from her career to care for her ailing husband, René Angélil. Fans were more than supportive of Celine’s decision to focus on her family. When she debuted her new show, “Celine” in August 2015, she mesmerized not only the opening night crowd but the world with her beauty, grace and powerful presence. As the theatre darkened, three wide screens became white hot before images of fans from around the world pop up, singing to Celine’s “I Drove All Night.” Their love and adoration for Celine was evident in the faces and handwritten signs with many standing in front of iconic

landmarks. As Celine walked out in a glittering gold dress singing “I Surrender,” the curtains then “crashed” to the ground and flew across the stage to show the 31 piece orchestra, band and back-up singers with a 180-degree screen in the background. Celine stood triumphantly as fans screamed in delight that Celine is back; better than ever.

Always stunning, Celine Dion creates intimacy with her performance during “Celine”

“Celine” is more intimate and engaged with the audience. “I sing ballads, talk to people, I want to have a connection with them and, we share a moment,” she told Sunseeker magazine. Her strong musical influences are evident as well, as she sings duets with Frank Sinatra, the Bee Gees and Elvis thanks to hologram technology. As always, Celine includes a French number in all of her shows. “My influences were pretty strange in a way because it totally is not at all what I am doing. I am the youngest of a big family, and my brothers and sisters were all musicians. They were listening to Janis Joplin, Supertramp, Mahogany Rush, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder. I would also listen to French artists like Jacque Brel and French Canadian singers like Ginette Reno, who is one of my favorites.”

Celine Dion speaks during a press conference held on the opening night of “Celine” in 2015

Her family continues to be her inspiration and support her, even with the challenges they are facing. “My three children and my wonderful husband want me to be here,” Celine told reporters during a press conference. “I have tremendous respect for my oldest, ReneCharles, because he’s showing me the strength. That is hard for him sometimes, I am sure, to see his dad this way, because he’s been his anchor (and) he has been his strength.” As for a residency show at the Colosseum, Celine has only praise, saying it’s more. “It became a stability … They believed in us. I believed in them. What I appreciate about AEG, Caesars Palace and this whole team, beyond this Colosseum, this magnificent place: the stability of being home every night, raising my family (and) giving me the best of both worlds.” She did admit that “there are things you can do on a world tour, have a wonderful time from one country to another country, different types of living, and you learn so much because you learn from different life styles, which is wonderful.” Her love for her husband is stronger than ever and, according to Celine, he is passing along his strength to her. “He doesn’t stop amazing me. When he talks to me I take notes. This is his time. This is his way. It’s going to be the way he wants it to be.”

Photos courtesy of Denise Truscello

Fans will also be excited to know that there will be new music and album releases. Celine is working on both French-speaking and Englishspeaking albums with anticipated release dates in 2016 and 2017. As Celine explained, “It’s open for everyone, any songwriters (or) composers to send me their art (music) for me to be able to reach different goals, keep going, evolve, have a good time and be passionate because I would love to keep going (in new directions).” “Celine” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace is scheduled for performances through June 4. Tickets may be purchased in person at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace Box Office, by calling 866.320.9763, or online at thecolosseum. com or axs.com. Ticket prices are $55 to $250, and prices include live entertainment tax. All shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m

A CONSTANT STATE OF EVOLUTION TWO NEW ACTS JOIN CIRQUE DU SOLEIL’S ACROBATIC SPECTACULAR “ZARKANA” By Heather Turk

performers and how the fast-paced production— which features 11 acrobatic acts as well as a breathtaking Sand Painting number—takes Cirque du Soleil back to its acrobatic roots.

Once a touring production, “Zarkana” moved permanently to ARIA Resort & Casino in late 2012, taking Las Vegas audiences on a spirited journey through an abandoned theater where an extraordinary circus comes back to life. As the production’s Artistic Director, Corbeil has seen “Zarkana” go through eight different versions since its creation, including a major refresh in 2013 that removed the show’s one-time narrator from the production in order to focus more on the jaw-dropping acrobatics. While Corbeil—and audiences—are happy with how far “Zarkana” has come over the years, the show continues to evolve and will welcome a new Ladder act and a new Straps act at the start of the New Year.

“If you’re a true Cirque du Soleil fan, this is the show you want to see,” she said. “People are always blown away by the artistry onstage— they’ve never seen so many strong acts in one show before. Sometimes I feel like we’re the stepchild of Cirque du Soleil, being one of the Strip’s newest Cirque shows, but sometimes the stepchild can be much more wondrous than the first born.” “Zarkana” runs Tuesday through Saturday at 7 and 9:30 p.m. (dark Jan. 17-Feb. 1). Tickets range from $69 to $180, plus tax and fees. For more information, visit cirquedusoleil.com/las-vegas.

Fans who saw Cirque du Soleil’s touring show “Corteo” might recognize Viacheslav Pereviazko as “Zarkana’s” new Ladders performer, who has been working on a different Ladders act that involves “Zarkana’s” Movers characters more.

Meanwhile, the new aerial Straps performers, Dymtro Lykov and Kyrylo Liannoi, are brand new to Cirque du Soleil. “These two guys are young and strong and at the pinnacle of their career,” Corbeil said excitedly. “While the basics of the act will remain the same, they bring a different energy to the piece.” Like “Zarkana’s” other outstanding acts, audiences are sure to be in awe of both refreshed numbers. Corbeil prides the show on its talented 34

David Copperfield performing his Squeezebox illusion

A TRULY MAGICAL EXPERIENCE THREE ACTS SURE TO LEAVE LAS VEGAS AUDIENCES SPELLBOUND By Heather Turk

T

he Entertainment Capital of the World may be best known for its many jaw-dropping Cirque du Soleil productions and A-list music residencies, but several of the world’s most talented magicians have can’t-miss shows in Las Vegas, too. When you want a show that both mesmerizes and mystifies, these three Vegas favorites never disappoint.

DAVID COPPERFIELD AT MGM GRAND

A true icon of magic, David Copperfield’s name is as synonymous with magic as Harry Houdini’s—and for good reason. His hit Las Vegas show is unlike any other magic show

Mac King, star of “The Mac King Comedy Magic Show”

One of Penn & Teller’s newest tricks, Rabbit, features Teller pulling a rabbit out of a hat

in town, interweaving grand illusions with emotional stories to create an experience audiences won’t forget. In fact, several of Copperfield’s newer illusions don’t even happen onstage but rather in the audience. One trick— with the help of a little lifelike alien named Attila the Hug—actually happens on audience members’ cell phones while another occurs right on ticket holders’ wrists! The show ends with a 22-foot-tall dinosaur named Frank that’s sure to leave kids and adults alike in awe.

“THE MAC KING COMEDY MAGIC SHOW” AT HARRAH’S LAS VEGAS

Still Las Vegas’ best bet for an entertaining afternoon on the Strip, comedy-magician Mac King puts on one of the city’s best shows using little more than a guinea pig, some playing cards and a couple of goldfish. King’s impressive sleight-of-hand skills are sure to enthrall audience members both young and old while his quirky sense of humor will keep adults in stitches throughout his hilarious (yet head-scratching) performance. Since many of King’s tricks rely heavily on volunteers from the audience, no two shows are ever alike. The only thing that remains consistent is King’s natural ability to charm ticket holders—no matter what their age!

PENN & TELLER AT RIO ALL-SUITE HOTEL & CASINO

Celebrating their 15th anniversary at the Rio on Jan. 5, Penn & Teller remain one of Las Vegas’ hottest tickets thanks to the simple fact that the dynamic duo is always working on new illusions for their long-running show. Audiences never know what to expect when the two perform, from catching Magic Bullets in their mouths to making Elsie the African Spotted Pigmy Elephant disappear. Even when they do something as cliché as pull a rabbit out of a hat or saw their assistant, Georgie Bernasek, in half, Penn & Teller put their own unique twist on the trick, resulting in innovative illusions audiences haven’t seen before. Tickets are purchased in the center and, while waiting to see the informative film about Newton, visitors can browse the gift shop and view booths and lighting fixtures from the former Aladdin Hotel and Casino he once briefly owned. At the film’s end, Newton invites guests by saying, “Welcome to my home,” with visitors then transported to the 52-acre working ranch and estate by bus. Entering through gilded gates, guests encounter the breathtaking landscape with natural artesian ponds and waterfalls and even see peacocks roaming the grounds. The first stop is the museum with a chance to enter Newton’s private jet (now grounded), view his vast and varied memorabilia, classic car collection and videos explaining meaning behind some favorite items. There are Native American artifacts, stage costumes, awards, trophies and gifts from many celebrities and U.S. presidents with military tributes from his USO tours being the most heartwarming.

Tours are daily, at set times, with average lengths ranging between two-and-a-half to four hours based on the package. Prices range from $35 to $95 with discounts for seniors 62 and over, military, fan club WNIFC WAYNIACS and children ages 6 to 12. Children age 5 and under are admitted for free. For information, call 702.776.7491 or visit casadeshenandoah.com.

Next on the tour is the equestrian area where visitors can view Newton’s famous champion Arabian horses. Now into the seventh generation, Newton has bred and raised more than 1,000 Arabian horses. Especially intriguing is watching the demonstration of an Arabian horse getting exercise swimming in a custom equine swimming pool. Newton’s love of animals is extraordinary and visible with a visit to the Exotic Animal Exhibit that includes Penguin Island, Monkey Manor, Wallaby World and other animal habitats.

The platinum tour includes the interior first level of the mansion with the diamond tour adding the Aramus Arabian’s barn and horse facility, Newton’s childhood home and inside the mansion, including the private upstairs quarters, secret rooms and hidden passages of the mansion.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL BLUE MAN GROUP RETURNS TO LUXOR WITH AN INTIMATE NEW PRODUCTION By Heather Turk

M

ore than 15 years after Blue Man Group first debuted in the Entertainment Capital of the World, the international entertainment phenomenon has returned to the resort where they first took Las Vegas by storm: Luxor Hotel and Casino. Performing inside the redesigned Blue Man Theater, Blue Man Group’s new show brings Las Vegas audiences closer than ever to the bald and blue performers.

“We’ve been all over the world with our various shows and projects and we’ve kind of learned the optimal conditions for our show,” said Blue Man Group co-founder Chris Wink during a

Q&A session celebrating Blue Man Group’s Luxor homecoming in November 2015. “In a way, we’ve never found the ultimate perfect theater; this is the closest we’ve ever come to the perfect setting. There’s not a bad seat in the house and not only can everyone in the house see well, the Blue Men can see everyone and that’s really part of the intimacy. We can do all of our technological tricks— there’s plenty of room for all the magic to happen—but it’s closed in enough so that that life force stays in the room, it doesn’t just go off into the ether.”

“We’ve been around for a while but we still know how to excite,” Wink said. “We keep the show relevant. We’re proud of both how long we’ve been around but also how much we’ve stayed fresh, and these moves allow us to do that: to keep [the show] the latest and greatest.”

Blue Man Group performs nightly at 7 and 9:30 p.m. with an additional 4 p.m. matinee on Feb. 13 (dark Jan. 6 and Feb. 7); on Jan. 3 there is only a 7 p.m. performance. Allegiant passengers receive special offers when they purchase their tickets onboard. Ask your flight attendant for details.

With only 830 seats inside the theater, fans can not only see every splash of paint and every eye movement the Blue Men make more clearly, but also feel the music pulsating throughout the intimate space. Those who’ve seen Blue Man Group’s most recent production at Monte Carlo will notice several changes during the Luxor show, too, from exciting new instruments like the log drums to new musical arrangements and visuals. The Blue Men have even brought back their beloved bit involving Cap’n Crunch cereal. As Blue Man Group co-founder Phil Stanton noted during the Q&A session, the move to Luxor was “a great opportunity to not only take a few steps forward with our work, but take a look backward in a way.”

SOMETHING NEW IS BREWIN’ LOCAL CRAFT BREWER TENAYA CREEK BREWERY MOVES TO DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS By Heather Turk

T

here’s something new brewing for craft beer drinkers to enjoy in Las Vegas. In November, one of the city’s original craft breweries, Tenaya Creek Brewery, moved from its northwest Las Vegas location into a larger venue in downtown Las Vegas. Located at 831 W. Bonanza Road, with direct access from Symphony Park where The Smith Center is located, the new location boasts a 12,000-square-foot production warehouse and a 1,500-square-foot taproom. Built in 1954, the building is one of only a few left in Las Vegas with a barrel vaulted ceiling of wood and steel. A true labor of love, it was completely restored when Tenaya Creek Brewery moved in.

Guests can drink their beer inside the 60seat taproom while watching one of several televisions or on the 12-seat viewing platform that boasts a view of the production facilities. For an even closer look at the brewing process, free tours are offered on select days of the week. Visitors can also purchase some beer to take home with them as well as a selection of Tenaya Creek Brewery merchandise, like hydro flasks and candles made from repurposed beer bottles. 42

Open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to midnight, beer drinkers can enjoy 28 different beers on tap inside the taproom, including each beer Tenaya Creek Brewery makes and several guest brews. Four taps are also on nitrogen to enhance the beer’s flavor. In addition to Tenaya Creek Brewery’s best-selling Bonanza Brown Ale, which won a Bronze Medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival, guests can enjoy the Tenaya Creek Pilsner, which won the highly coveted Gold Medal at the 2002 Great American Beer Festival for best European-style Pilsner. At the start of the New Year guests can order seasonal brews such as the Barley Wine, a beer of 10 percent alcohol by volume, and the Imperial Stout, too. Sampler trays are also available.

If you can’t make it to Tenaya Creek Brewery’s new location, which offers plenty of free parking, more than 200 restaurants and bars throughout Las Vegas and on the Strip sell its beer as well as a variety of retail and grocery stores, including Lee’s Discount Liquor. Its beer is also shipped to stores and restaurants in Utah, Arizona, California and Washington as well as Vancouver, British Columbia, and Alberta, Canada. Allegiant passengers can purchase cans of Bonanza Brown Ale on their flight; ask your flight attendant for details.

A WEE BIT OF FUN MANNEKIN PIS LAS VEGAS NOW GREETS EVERYONE AT THE D LAS VEGAS By Yvonne Newman

russels, Belgium is home to a diminutive bronze statue known as the Manneken Pis. Many have seen photos of it on postcards or in travel guides. Manneken Pis is Dutch for “little pee man,” and that’s exactly what the irreverent sculpture of a boy does—relieves himself while smiling mischievously. Created by Hiëroynmus Duquesnoy the Elder in the 17th century, it once stood over a fountain that was used to distribute drinking water throughout Brussels. Over the years, the Manneken Pis was stolen, rediscovered, replicated and relocated many times. Today it sits atop a fountain near the European city’s Grand Palace.

The Manneken Pis Las Vegas is one of downtown’s newest attractions

So are you wondering what any of this has to do with downtown Las Vegas? Sin City hasn’t snatched the cheeky fellow, but the D Las Vegas did sign a 100-year contract allowing for a replica of the Manneken Pis to be made and installed next to its main valet area. Dubbed the Manneken Pis Las Vegas, it now serves as the hotel’s official greeter. “Manneken Pis Las Vegas is a ‘tip of the cap’ to our parents and our family trips to Belgium,” said Derek Stevens, CEO of the D Las Vegas, when the copy of the famous statue was unveiled last September. Derek and his brother Greg, who co-own the resort, are of Belgian descent and have been longtime fans of the work of art. They were thrilled to incorporate it into the hotel’s landscape. The Manneken Pis Las Vegas is about 6 feet tall and weighs in at 500 pounds, whereas the one in Brussels measures about 2 feet in height and weighs around 38 pounds. Las Vegas is not the first city to have a copy. Several Belgian cities have similar statues and there’s one in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in front of the headquarters of the famous Botafogo Football Club. Another stands on a platform at a train station in Tokushima, Japan. The Mannekin Pis in Brussels is not always naked. He has an elaborate wardrobe consisting of more than 900 different costumes that were created and given to him to commemorate holidays and special occasions. The Stevens’ brothers are also carrying on this tradition, so you’ll see their sculpture in some pretty elaborate get-ups for major sporting events, holidays and citywide initiatives.

THREE SURE BETS FOR GOLF THERE ARE PLENTY OF TERRIFIC GOLF COURSES IN LAS VEGAS By Brian Hurlburt

as Vegas is often referred to as the ultimate golf city featuring more than 70 golf courses. When those green fairways are combined with the off-the-course action, the combination makes for an unforgettable golf vacation. Here are three area courses that offer a variety of options for your next trip to Southern Nevada.

ROYAL LINKS GOLF CLUB

This themed course is known the world over for offering golfers the chance to play replica holes from some of the world’s most historic courses. Royal Links features St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Royal Troon combining golf history with some modern Las Vegas flare. There are also

the holes honoring the courses played during the prestigious Open Championship, golf’s oldest major still played annually in the United Kingdom. The beautiful Par Mates female caddies are available to add a little spice to each round upon request. For more info or tee times, visit royallinksgolfclub.com.

THE LAS VEGAS COUNTRY CLUB

Many call The Las Vegas Country Club the most historic golf course in Las Vegas. The private course opened in 1967 and has been frequented over the years by celebrities, presidents, politicians, athletes, business greats, casino moguls and legendary Vegas mob figures. The course and surrounding neighborhood are where much of the real-life action of the movie Casino took place. While the course is private, there are national memberships available for out-of-town visitors that allow access to the facility that is located close to the Las Vegas Strip. Also, tee times are available to guests of the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. You can walk in the steps of history when you play The Las Vegas Country Club. For more info, visit lasvegascc.com.

LAS VEGAS NATIONAL GOLF CLUB Play replica holes of St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Royal Troon and others at Royal Links

Las Vegas National Golf Club is a historic course located minutes from the Las Vegas Strip

There’s just something special about playing Las Vegas National Golf Club. This course is arguably the most historic golf course in the Las Vegas Golf Region. Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods have each won tournaments there. In the heyday of the Rat Pack, it wasn’t uncommon to see Dean Martin and other big-time celebrities playing the course and partying in the clubhouse after. Just minutes from the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, enjoy holes shadowed with hundreds of palms trees that add shade and character. The Rat Pack Bar & Grill brings the past to life, and the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame exhibit is free and open to the public daily. And, by the way, you have to try the revolutionary Golf Boards at National. You won’t ever want to ride a cart again. For more info or tee times visit LasVegasNational.com. LAS VEGAS

Take full advantage of ever y minute with the many festivals held in the Valley of the Sun. Glendale Glitters, the culmination of the largest free holiday light display in Arizona (1.5 million bulbs), continues in historic downtown Glendale. Through Jan. 8, there will be horse-drawn carriage rides offered. The Glendale Glitter & Glow Block Party, from 4 to 10 p.m. on Jan. 9, will feature glowing tethered air balloons, dozens of bands playing all genres of music, a myriad of international tasty treats to enjoy, arts and crafts and more. Sponsored by Arizona candy maker, Cerreta’s, visitors can also tour the candy factory all weekend to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the chocolatiers create everyone’s favorite candy. Visit glendaleaz.com. In Scottsdale, Arizona’s Native American past comes to life with the Native Trails events. These free noontime performances share the importance of preserving and conserving the land and its resources through song, dance and storytelling. This year, Native Trails shares a message of stewardship through the songs and dances of various tribes including the Hopi, Diné (Navajo), Akimel Au-Authm and San Carlos Apache. The lawn comes alive with elaborate performances including the intricate Hoop Dance and Round Dance, which encourages audience participation to celebrate the connection of all people and cultures. Vendors bring stands filled with jewelry, baskets, pottery, instruments and paintings. On Saturdays, featured artisans share

their trade with the attendees. Of course, there’s fried bread galore and other Native American treats. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Events will be held Thursdays and Saturdays from Jan. 9-March 31 at the Scottsdale Center For The Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St. For more info, visit scottsdalenativetrails.com. Just outside of Phoenix proper but well worth the drive, the Arizona Renaissance Festival offers families a medieval amusement park, with an artisan fair, jousting tournaments, plenty of food and lots of “raucous revelry ” for all. You can dress up and be one with the Renaissance or be yourself and have just as much fun—either way, bring comfortable shoes: the place is huge and you’ll want to see every last bit of it! The festival will be held Feb. 6-March 27. Visit royalfaires.com/Arizona.

ROAD TRIPPIN’ ALONG MESA’S FRESH FOODIE TRAIL PLAN FOR AN UNEXPECTED CULINARY EDUCATION AND TASTY TREATS ON THIS 10-STOP TOUR By Kate Wallace

F

ew think of the Sonoran Desert as being a fertile land of riches but take a road trip through Mesa and discover that this Arizona destination offers an abundance of fresh locally produced food. Fresh Foodie Trail is a culinar ythemed journey that winds visitors along its freeways and into its neighboring town’s countr yside charms. Mesa has long served as a culinary gateway to some of the top chefs’ tables in the Greater Phoenix area. When you hear about restaurant kitchens sourcing their produce locally, there is a good chance the food came from the Southeast Valley. The region, made up of the towns of Gilbert and Queen Creek and promoted by Mesa, has 10 agritourism attractions that make up the trail and one can

find everything from peaches, olives, citrus, ice cream and even pasta during their visit. Plan ahead as many of these roadside attractions host food-driven events in the winter months giving you even more reasons to stay awhile.

SCHNEPF FARMS

This fourth-generation family farm just happens to be the largest peach grower in the Southwest and with that, set the stage for a wonderful Arizona epicurean showcase as part of its Dinners Down the Orchard event series each spring. These elegant, farm country familystyle dinners feature a prominent local chef that forages straight from the farm’s u-pick gardens and features the daily harvest in a four-course meal served at sunset. For visitors on the foodie trail, be sure to stop in at the Farm Fresh Bakery open Thursday to Sunday

and enjoy its signature peach cinnamon rolls or the unforgettable caramel-topped apple pie. In February, the fragrant Peach Blossom orchard trail is a photo worthy stop as rows and rows of peach trees welcome the desert warmth with hundreds of bright fuchsia pink and white blossoms on display. schnepffarms.com

QUEEN CREEK OLIVE MILL

If Italy has a scent, it’s captured here at the mill which promises a full-sensory experience directly upon arrival. Guests would be wise to plan their visit here around one of the day’s three meals, and even then it would be hard to choose which one. A breakfast must-taste are the Lemon Ricotta pancakes featuring the mill’s signature Meyer Lemon olive oil, with the Kalamata sandwich serving as the lunch time favorite. This signature sandwich is stacked high with cured Italian meats and was featured on Food Network’s “Best Thing I Ever Ate.” For foodies, the options are as varied as the mill’s collection of olive oils, cremas and vinegars (which at last count topped 20 varieties). While here, visitors can enjoy complimentary tastings of the oils while waiting to take the Olive 101 Tour. Offered on the half-hour, tours go behind the scenes showing off the cold pressing operation while experts answer nearly every question regarding this well-regarded elixir. queencreekolivemill.com

THE ORANGE PATCH

Just a few years ago, Mesa’s citrus industry was called out by National Geographic as one of the nation’s Top Food Drives. With citrus production in full swing each January, it’s one of the most aromatic times of year in Mesa. The original citrus grower, The Orange Patch, offers a delightful shopping experience on the trail. The wood-framed farm store is fully stocked with a variety of citrus unique to Arizona (ask for samples), as well as bulk snacks, treats and sweets including handmade chocolates and orange blossom honey straight from the nearby groves. Visitors are welcome to watch the picking and production process that takes place daily. orangepatch.com

HAYDEN FLOUR MILLS

The newest addition to the trail can be found (and tasted) at Sossaman Farms. Here, the focus is on preserving grain history with the growing and milling of heirloom wheat. The result is a flour so in demand it earned the top American Made Award by Martha Stewart. Visitors can stop in to learn more about a variety of flavorful grains and the importance of wheat to the American diet. Visitors can watch the stone-milling process and taste and purchase some of the world’s oldest varieties of grain in the form of crackers, artisan breads, pasta, polenta, wheat berries and more. haydenflourmills.com

or the past 26 years, the big white tents of the Celebration of Fine Art have popped up on a busy street corner in Scottsdale, bringing a unique exhibit and studio space where “art lovers and artists connect.” Susan Morrow, show director and partner, loves the iconic temporary housing, but she wants everyone to know there’s much more to it than that. “Although we may be known as the ‘big white tent’ art show, it’s what happens inside the tent that makes the Celebration of Fine Art special,” she commented. “Moments after walking through the front door, you’ll forget about the tent and be completely transformed by the spectacular art and the energy of the creativity in action. You’ll be drawn in by the stories and the inspiration behind the art, then find yourself transported to a different place in time as your pace slows down and you realize it is all about the connection between you, the viewer and the artist, the storyteller. It’s this connection that makes this event so special.” This wonderfully interactive exhibition welcomes nearly 50,000 visitors from around the world each year and has become

AS SEEN ON TV ‘DINERS, DRIVE-INS AND DIVES’ HIGHLIGHTS DINING DIVERSITY IN THE VALLEY OF THE SUN By Amy Young

S

ince 2006, the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” has become an extremely popular, must-watch program for those with a desire to find out about regional restaurants focusing on classic diner fare and treasured family recipes. Charismatic, spiky-haired host Guy Fieri and his crew have visited the Phoenix metropolitan area on several occasions. Here’s a round-up of three of his recent stops that highlight dining diversity and deliciousness in the Valley of the Sun.

ANDREOLI ITALIAN GROCER

SAL’S GILBERT PIZZA

This New York-style pizzeria is your go-to spot when you can’t decide between a savory pie and a heaping order of pasta. Sal’s specialty pizza menu has a few selections that put the pasta right on the pizza such as the Lasagna Pizza. A rich and divine layered meat and cheese dish on top of a chewy crust. Sal knows east coast pizza; he managed his brother’s pizzeria in New York for several years before bringing his skills and his family to a warmer climate to share his recipes for tasty eats with the desert dwellers. The scent of garlic hits you as you walk in, immediately springing your hunger pangs into action. From thin crust to the thicker Sicilian style pies, appetizers and pastas, Sal’s has saucy cravings covered. Visit gilbertpizzaaz.com.

PARADISE VALLEY BURGER CO.

A serious burger craving generally means that not just any meat patty will do. You want something you can sink your teeth into while making sure there are a stack of napkins nearby to catch the fallout. This strip mall spot, located in the scenic Paradise Valley neighborhood north of Phoenix, makes just the type of burger that hits the spot—plump, hearty and bursting with flavor. For those who need more than the standard toppings like cheese, lettuce and tomato, this place takes it to another level with options like the Country Fried Burger, topped with a thick gravy, that “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” featured, or the beer-battered Booze Burger covered with a 72

This neighborhood market and eatery brings authentic Italian cuisine to the desert, serving it up in a cozy, charming shop owned by Giovanni Scorzo—who doubles as the chef—and his wife, Linda. Make yourself at home at one of the wooden tables and choose something from the enticing menu full of sandwiches, salads and pasta dishes. You’ll have a hard time deciding between choices like the Porchetta, a warm sandwich loaded with roasted pork that has been seasoned with garlic, black pepper and fennel, or the Foce, a salad of mixed greens topped with tuna, tomatoes and pecorino cheese. There are also plenty of homemade items to take with you, including breads and desserts. Visit andreoli-grocer.com.

One attraction that’s sure to score a touchdown with football fans is Super Bowl City, a fan village designed to celebrate Super Bowl 50 and showcase the best of the Bay Area. Centered in Justin Herman Plaza, on the Embarcadero at the foot of San Francisco’s famed Market Street, Super Bowl City will feature a variety of familyfriendly events, from NFL-themed activities to cultural performances and displays that highlight the artistic vitality of the Bay Area. It will also be the broadcast home of both the NFL Network and CBS—the exclusive broadcaster of Super Bowl 50—throughout Super Bowl Week.

of all ages leading up to the big game. Located at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the attraction celebrates football’s history as well as the electrifying atmosphere of the Super Bowl. Highlights include the opportunity for fans to meet some of their favorite NFL players of the past and present, interactive games so you can pass like a pro or take a shot at kicking a game-winning field goal, and the chance to get an up-close look at all of the past Super Bowl championship rings and take a photo with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. There will even be an NFL Shop on site offering the largest selection of NFL limited-edition Super Bowl 50 merchandise. Tickets for the NFL Experience are on sale now at superbowl.com and cost just $35 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and younger; admission to Super Bowl City is free.

Pro football’s interactive theme park, the NFL Experience, will also be a popular spot for fans

In a break from tradition, Super Bowl City will be open for an extra weekend this year, running concurrently with the NFL Experience from Jan. 30-Feb. 7. YOU CAN’T SPELL LAUGH WITHOUT LA IF COMEDY WAS GOLD THESE VENUES SMELT IT AND DEALT IT By Connor McIlveen

L

os Angeles doesn’t have a stand-up comedy scene; it has a comedy culture. From restaurants to bars, backrooms to ballrooms, comedy has worked its way into the DNA of Los Angeles, and with so many professional comedians living and working in the city, it’s easy to catch a seasoned stand-up or a rising star at one of the many shows around town. Here are three different venues offering comedy gold.

THE HOLLYWOOD IMPROV

The Improv doesn’t rest on its laurels as one of the first comedy clubs in LA, but surpasses expectations by housing huge talent in their newly remodeled, intimate club setting, drawing renowned comedians to perform on the legendary stage. The new venue includes a podcast laboratory that guests can rent, and a Hell’s Kitchen New York-inspired restaurant with a fresh farm-to-table menu. Comedians are scheduled weekly, but big names like Daniel Tosh and Adam Sandler are known to stop by and do a set or just hang at the bar, where patrons can rub elbows with the comedians before, after and during the show. At the Improv, you’re not just seeing Hollywood, you’re a part of it. For more information, visit hollywood.improv.com

THE MELTDOWN WITH JONAH AND KUMAIL

Once LA’s best kept secret, the Meltdown has blossomed into a stand-up institution, garnering national attention and a TV show on Comedy Central. This weekly comedy show, started by comedians Kumail Nanjiani and Jonah Ray, has been showcasing comedians in the back room of Meltdown Comics, one of LA’s biggest comic book stores, for five years. From big TV stars to up-and-coming comedy virtuosos, The Meltdown has them all. The venue, coined the NerdMelt Showroom by creator and TV host Chris Hardwick, is home to a wide variety of acts including live podcasts, art galleries and an open mic for those willing to try their luck with some jokes. EXPERIENCE WAIKIKI WITHOUT SPENDING A DIME

By Cheryl Tsutsumi

A

s Hawaii’s tourism capital, Waikiki boasts world-class hotels, gourmet restaurants and pricey boutiques, but here are three great diversions that won’t set you back a penny.

MOANA SURFRIDER AND THE ROYAL HAWAIIAN TOURS

ROYAL HAWAIIAN BAND CONCERTS

King Kamehameha III established the Royal Hawaiian Band in 1836 to perform at official government events and to be in the reigning monarchs’ entourage when they visited the neighbor islands. Observing its 180th anniversary next year, it is the only full-time municipal band in the United States. In addition to a busy schedule at home, the band has performed abroad and in cities across the mainland, including Carnegie Hall in New York City. Among its 300-plus annual appearances are 2 p.m. concerts on most Sundays at the Kapi‘olani Park Bandstand at Kapi‘olani Park, 2748 Monsarrat Ave. Call 808.922-5331 or visit rhb-music.com for more info. 80

HAWAII

Battery Randolph was completed in 1911 as the first line of defense against an enemy attack by sea on Oahu’s south shore. On the National Register of Historic Places, it now houses the U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii, which focuses on the military history of Hawaii and the U.S. Army’s presence in Hawaii and the Pacific. Exhibit topics include ancient Hawaiian weapons, World War II’s primarily Japanese-American 100th Infantry Battalion/442nd Infantry Regiment and the Gallery of Heroes, which honors soldiers from Hawaii who earned the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross, America’s highest awards for valor. The U.S. Army Museum of Hawaii (808.922.5331; garrison.hawaii.army.mil/ armymuseum) is located at 2131 Kalia Road.

When the Moana Surfrider opened in 1901 as Waikiki’s first hotel, guests ooohed and aaahed at its innovations: an electric-powered elevator, ice machines on each of its four floors and a telephone and private bath in its 75 rooms. In its second-floor Historical Room are vintage postcards, brochures, room keys, sheet music and more. A 15-minute video depicts the hotel in the early 1900s, restoration efforts and the “First Lady of Waikiki” today. The Royal Hawaiian, dubbed the “Pink Palace of the Pacific,” was built on 15 palm-tree shaded acres where Hawaiian royalty once kept vacation homes. Exhibit highlights include china and silver used at its opening night banquet in 1927 and photos of celebrity guests, including Elizabeth Taylor, Bing Crosby and Spencer Tracy. Concierges can provide details about each hotel’s historical tour. The Moana Surfrider (808.922.3111; moana-surfrider.com) is located at 2365 Kalakaua Ave. The Royal Hawaiian (808.923.7311; royal-hawaiian.com) is located at 2259 Kalakaua Ave.

Could Allegiant Be Your Career Destination? We know you love to GO on vacation... Now, make vacations possible for others by joining the Allegiant Team!

light attendants are some of the best multitaskers in the airline industry, working to ensure both passenger safety and comfort all while being one of the most visible faces of the company. While the work can be hard, one of the many rewarding aspects of the job is all the travel opportunities available. Las Vegas-based flight attendant Ethel Cameron has been working for Allegiant since 2013 and recently accomplished one of her life’s goals of visiting all 50 states. Sunseeker was able to catch up with Ethel about her recent feat: Sunseeker: What inspired you to set a personal goal to visit all 50 states in the U.S.? Ethel: My passion for travel inspired me to seek adventures by visiting all 50 states. Becoming a flight attendant has been a dream of mine, and the benefits that come along with being a flight attendant have allowed me the opportunity to

experience the diverse culture across the United States. Every state had its own persona made up of the favorite local spots, the cuisine and all the sights to see. Sunseeker: How has your job allowed you to hit all 50 states? Ethel: I had the opportunity to visit all 50 states by choosing consecutive days off in a row. I also traded shifts with other flight attendants in order to extend the period of my days off. I still can’t believe that I’m able to say that I have accomplished this goal of mine! Sunseeker: Do you have a favorite state that you enjoyed the most? Ethel: Many states have so much to offer and each state is unique in its own way. The state that I enjoyed the most is Louisiana! I enjoy going to Louisiana because of the crawfish and other Cajun style foods. The ambiance is electric and the people are vivacious. Sunseeker: When you visit each state, is there any special memorabilia you collect? Ethel: Whenever I visited a state for the first time, I was always sure to collect a magnet from each one. Now I have a part of every state on my fridge! I’m always sure to take lots of photos and pick up souvenirs for my family too. Sunseeker: Between all the states you visited, do you have any special memories you would like to share? Ethel: I had many special memories in the states I visited. What I enjoyed the most while visiting all the states was traveling with my family and friends. This past June, I graduated with my Master’s in Public Health in Maryland. My family and two of my Allegiant friends, Bellinghambased Alysa Kayo and Las Vegas-based Amberlina Machado, attended my graduation. This was one of my biggest accomplishments and I’m grateful they were all able to attend this special event. SUNSEEKER

as Vegas is one of those towns that is always transforming itself. Each time you visit, your experience is sure to be completely different than the last. Maybe you bring home more winnings than you did the last time, maybe your taste buds are craving something new, and maybe you are in the mood for a different show than you enjoyed during your last vacation. You visit Vegas not just because you want to try your luck at the tables or take advantage of the variety of cuisine, but because you want to see something different each time you visit. Whether or not you have enjoyed a show in the past, don’t miss out on seeing one the next time you’re in town. Like everything else in Las Vegas, shows are always reinventing themselves to be the most outrageous, fun, and mind-blowing thing on the Strip. During your next trip to Las Vegas, be sure to pick up some tickets to one of these sure-to-be highlights of your vacation. “MICHAEL JACKSON ONE” Whether you’re a huge or casual fan of Michael Jackson’s music, you’re sure to love this show. Brought to you by one of the leaders in entertainment, Cirque du Soleil, “Michael Jackson ONE” brings you all of MJ’s greatest hits combined with the awe-inspiring acrobatics that have made Cirque shows famous across the globe. Located at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, this one is one of the top-selling shows on the Strip.

“LEGENDS IN CONCERT” Dubbing itself as the World’s Greatest Live Tribute Show, “Legends in Concert” lives up to its name. Featuring an always changing cast, you can see this show each time you visit and be treated to a one-of-a-kind experience on each one of those visits. Located at the Flamingo Casino & Hotel, you’ll be able to see everyone from Taylor Swift and Madonna to Frank Sinatra and Elvis during one sitting. Now that’s something to write home about! “ROCK OF AGES” The 80s were the “it” decade if you love big hair, leather pants and shredding guitars. If that was (or still is) your scene, look no further than “Rock of Ages.” The show will be playing at the Venetian through Jan. 3 and move to Rio AllSuite Hotel & Casino beginning Jan. 25. Telling the story of Drew, a boy from south Detroit, and Sherrie, a small-town girl, and their dreams of making it big on the Sunset Strip in 1987 Los Angeles, “Rock of Ages” plays all your favorite 80s jams during this classic love story.

ALLEGIANT CELEBRATES 2015 PARTNERSHIP WITH MAKE-A-WISH® THREE YEARS, OVER 400 WISHES FLOWN AND ALMOST $500,000 DONATED

O

n Aug. 25, 2012, Allegiant provided travel for its first Make-A-Wish® wish kid. Since then, Allegiant has flown over 400 wish kids to their destinations, donated almost $300,000, and over $150,000 has been donated by passengers through purchases of the Wingz Kids Snack Pack. In 2015 alone, almost 200 wish kids were flown by Allegiant to their destinations including Serena, age 17, who on July 6, 2015, was Allegiant’s 300th wish kid. Serena flew to Hawaii for her wish to learn how to surf.

family. Headquartered in Phoenix, Make-AWish is one of the world’s leading children’s charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 27,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 37 minutes. It has granted more than 254,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; more than 14,200 wishes in 2014 alone. Visit Make-A-Wish at wish.org to learn more. To learn how you can help make travel wishes come true, visit allegiant.com/maw.

Allegiant also had the pleasure of flying wish kid Colton, age 8, from Indiana to Florida. Colton’s wish came true when he and his family traveled to Orlando to visit the Florida theme parks. However, with the help of Allegiant, Colton’s wish started before he stepped foot on the plane. When Colton and his family arrived at the South Bend International Airport in South Bend, Ind. for their departure, Allegiant and airport employees greeted them for a celebratory send-off party, making the day even more special for Colton. Allegiant also sponsored five Make-A-Wish fundraising events around the country including the annual Southern Nevada Walk for Wishes event held in Allegiant’s hometown of Las Vegas. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish come true has positive impacts on the health of the children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire

TRAVELER INFORMATION SAFETY FIRST Customer safety is Allegiant ®’s first concern. Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following: • Location of the nearest emergency exit • Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed • Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency SEAT BELTS Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards. CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR

VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT” from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt. PHOTOS & VIDEOS ONBOARD The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES Allegiant is forbidden to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated or who has not yet reached the age of 21. It is a violation of federal regulations to drink alcoholic beverages during a flight unless they have been served by Allegiant personnel.
