SOMETHING NEW UP THEIR SLEEVES
While fans can continue to watch all-new episodes of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” throughout the month of September on The CW, there’s nothing like seeing the legendary magicians perform live. A staple at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino for more than 17 years, Penn & Teller put on one of Las Vegas’ best shows. Given that the duo has more than eight hours of material for a 90-minute production, audiences never know what tricks they’ll see onstage—especially considering Penn & Teller are always working on new illusions, too! It doesn’t matter if ticket holders are watching Penn & Teller vanish a chicken or a rare African pygmy spotted elephant, audiences are guaranteed a great time. For tickets, visit riolasvegas.com.

Chef and sustainability advocate Rick Moonen inside Rx Boiler Room
A CELEBRITY CHEF WITH A PURPOSE RICK MOONEN MAKES SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES TASTE GOOD By Heather Turk
R
ick Moonen knew at a young age that he wanted to do something that would service other people as an adult. While he thought he would grow up to become a doctor, fate intervened by having Moonen’s mother constantly make her hyperactive 8-year-old son help her out in the kitchen to keep him from, as Moonen put it, “disassembling the television with a screwdriver.” Today, the celebrity chef who has appeared on such shows as “Top Chef Masters” and “Beat Bobby Flay” is doing a service for others by being one of the country’s top culinary advocates for sustainable seafood. Mentored at The Culinary Institute of America by chef Eugene Bernard, Moonen said Bernard instilled a sense of integrity in him that genetically modified plants and animal products go against. “People put a certain amount of trust in you as a chef because what you are cooking is going into their mouth,” Moonen said. “By the government sliding in a few genetically modified things that cross the DNA border, they’re not allowing us to do our jobs properly.”
The true stars at Moonen’s restaurants are the delectable dishes themselves. While RM Seafood is known more for its fresh seafood, which includes the Mediterranean-style Charred Spanish 14
DINING
Unlike most celebrity chefs, Moonen is typically at his Las Vegas restaurants three times a week, too, further adding to the unparalleled dining experience. “We offer guests a more real dining experience,” Moonen said. “Our food has a message behind it.” For more information, visit rmseafood.com and rxboilerroom.com.

Not only does the seafood Moonen serves at his two restaurants inside The Shoppes at Mandalay Place—RM Seafood and the steampunk-themed Rx Boiler Room—come from Monterey Bay Aquarium’s sustainable Seafood Watch List, but Moonen also works hard to keep each restaurant’s carbon footprint down as much as he can. His commitment to sustainability practices has resulted in Moonen being called the Godfather of Sustainability—a title he prefers much more than celebrity chef.
Octopus that Moonen called “a big hug of flavor from the ocean,” Rx Boiler Room focuses more on comfort foods with a playful twist, like the delicious bite-sized Bacon Wrapped Bacon-N-Egg and Chicken Pot Pie Nuggets. Other must-try menu selections include RM Seafood’s flavorful Rice Krispies made with spicy tuna, wasabi crème fraiche, avocado, tobiko caviar and fried rice and Rx Boiler Room’s tender Ancho Chili Braised Short Rib that you can cut with a fork.

Penn & Teller know how to leave audiences’ mouths agape
NEVER THE SAME SHOW TWICE
PENN & TELLER CONTINUE TO MIX THINGS UP AT THE RIO By Heather Turk
P
enn & Teller may have celebrated their 17th anniversary at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino earlier this year, but the longtime Las Vegas headliners still remain one of the city’s biggest draws. Performing five nights a week inside the beautiful Penn & Teller Theater, the legendary magicians always give ticket holders something new to enjoy during their hit Las Vegas production. Never ones to rest on their laurels, the stars of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” continue to challenge themselves 43 years into their career by constantly working on new jawdropping illusions for the show that Penn Jillette called “the hardest stuff anyone has ever done.” “The only reason to do anything new now is because it’s hard,” said Jillette, who first met
Teller in 1975, when they and a mutual friend started to perform together as the Asparagus Valley Cultural Society. “When Teller and I get to talking about something new, if either one of us pitches something that’s easy and fast, it’s immediately off the table. Some of the stuff Teller and I work on can take five, six, sometimes seven years, and we still can’t get it right.” While Penn & Teller ended their show for years with their heart-pounding double bullet catch, Magic Bullets, four years ago the two debuted the most challenging illusion they’ve ever worked on for their finale: making an African pygmy spotted elephant disappear onstage while surrounded by audience members. That bit took six years to master before Penn & Teller finally felt confident enough to bring it to the stage, which says a lot since Jillette noted that whenever the duo thinks a new bit is good enough to be put onstage, they will “pull the trigger and get it into the show.” The magicians also recently debuted their version of a classic doves and silks act done by The Great Tomsoni & Co. that took two years to perfect.

“Singers do covers of their hero’s hits all the time,” Jillette said of the bit, which is unlike anything else Penn & Teller perform onstage. “This is our version of a cover. It’s our love letter to Johnny and Pam Thompson (The Great Tomsoni & Co.). Johnny is our mentor,

and we loved the idea of doing his signature bit as a tribute.” Unlike a lot of Las Vegas shows where audiences just sit back and watch the artists perform, Penn & Teller’s Las Vegas show is far from a passive production. Several of the tricks performed onstage require assistance from select audience members Penn & Teller choose at random, including an illusion recently added to the show where the typically silent Teller quietly teaches a group of children how to perform a trick that involves their parents, some colored golf balls and some matching baseball caps. Another interactive bit that’s currently in the show, Coins, is one of the few constants that’s remained in the production over the past few years. The illusion involves Teller, a woman from the audience and a fishbowl filled with water, and leaves audiences astounded every time. “It’s a beautiful piece of magic that Teller performs wonderfully,” Jillette said. “It’s a real audience favorite.” Even though Penn & Teller tend to keep a couple of fan favorites in the Las Vegas production, Jillette knows the fact that they’re always changing the show and adding new material has played a huge role in its continued success. “The conventional wisdom in Las Vegas is that you don’t need to change anything [in your show] because the audience always changes,”Jillette said. “You develop your show on the road, nail things down and then you come to Las Vegas and play golf. But, Teller and I didn’t get into show business to get out of show business. I mean, why would we play golf when we could be writing a show? We love to work, and I think that helps.”
Penn & Teller remain one of Las Vegas’ hottest tickets
Penn & Teller’s passion to put on the best show possible extends far beyond the illusions seen onstage, too, as the two work hard to make their show an experience guests will enjoy from the moment they step inside of the theater. Not only are ticket holders encouraged to come onstage before the show to see some magic props up close, but there’s also live jazz music before each performance by the Mike Jones Duo—which features Jillette on upright bass! Fans can also get a quick photo with Penn & Teller as well as jazz pianist Mike Jones as they’re leaving the theater during a free post-show meet and greet in the lobby. Penn & Teller perform live in Las Vegas Saturday through Wednesday at 9 p.m., dark Oct. 20 through 24. Tickets start at $84.30, plus tax and fees. riolasvegas.com FEATURE STORY

Barry Manilow’s new Las Vegas residency showcases his pitch-perfect vocals
THE RETURN OF A LAS VEGAS FAVORITE BARRY MANILOW’S NEW RESIDENCY SHOULDN’T BE MISSED By Heather Turk

his past May, one of the world’s all-time best selling recording artists returned to the Entertainment Capital of the World with an all-new show—six-and-a-half years after his most recent Las Vegas residency came to a close.

Appropriately titled “Manilow Las Vegas – The Hits Come Home!,” Barry Manilow’s new resident production is a bit of a homecoming for the legendary entertainer. Currently running select dates through October inside Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino’s International Theater, the show takes place on the same stage Manilow’s first two resident productions, “Manilow: Music and Passion” and “Ultimate Manilow: The Hits,” were staged on from 2005 to 2009 when the property was known as the Las Vegas Hilton. Manilow then performed another residency at Paris Las Vegas for two years before wrapping up his seven-year run in Las Vegas on Dec. 12, 2011.
Manilow performs the titular track off his most recent album, “This is My Town: Songs of New York.” Audiences are told to put the glasses on so they can “fly” over New York with Manilow and go on an aerial tour. Seeing the 75-yearold singer fly Superman-style over various landmarks in 3-D might not be something one would expect from Manilow’s show—nor is seeing him perform on a catwalk that’s lowered over select audience members’ heads—but as the vigorous performer pointed out during a recent performance, “Age doesn’t matter, unless you’re a banana.” “Manilow Las Vegas – The Hits Come Home!” runs Sept. 27-29 and Oct. 4-6 and 25-27 at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $19.75 to $329.75, plus tax and fees. For more information, visit westgateresorts.com/hotels/nevada/las-vegas/ westgate-las-vegas-resort-casino.
Manilow hasn’t missed a beat during his time away from Las Vegas. His new show, which features the Grammy, Tony and Emmy Award-winning singer-songwriter performing everything from classic hits like “Looks Like We Made It” and “Mandy” to his timeless Band-Aid and State Farm advertising jingles, is easily one of the city’s best resident productions. Whether or not you’re a longtime “Fanilow,” ticket holders of all ages are sure to be on their feet dancing along to the music with their glow sticks high in the air (yes, audience members get glow sticks) by the time Manilow starts singing “Copacabana.” Glow sticks aren’t the only complimentary items passed out to ticket holders before the show, either. Each audience member also gets a pair of disposable 3-D glasses to wear when

There’s no doubt the talented singer/ dancer/actress gives everything she has to the production, whether she’s dedicating a cover of Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance” to her twins while angelically suspended above the stage or performing a sensual striptease to “Girls.” A concert experience that’s not to be missed, “JENNIFER LOPEZ: ALL I HAVE” runs select days through Sept. 29 at 9 p.m. jlovegas.com While Lopez’s Las Vegas residency may be preparing for its curtain call, pop-punk rock band Blink-182’s new “Kings of the Weekend” residency at Palms Casino Resort is only in the midst of its run. Returning Oct. 26 and 27 to the newly renovated Pearl Concert Theater, the rockin’ production is one of Las Vegas’ most entertaining residencies, boasting everything from flashy pyrotechnics to giant inflatable toys concertgoers toss around during “Dumpweed.” Guests can’t help but sing along as the trio performs some of their classic hits, like “All the Small Things,” “The Rock Show” and “What’s My Age Again?” Select audience members might even find themselves joining the mosh pit that will inevitably form during the high-energy set! ven though Carrot Top has been performing at Luxor Hotel and Casino for the past 13 years, the curly-haired prop comic still looks like he’s having a blast onstage. “Jeff Ross (who has seen the show before) recently met me after my show and asked, ‘Are you really having that much fun?’” Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, recalled. “I don’t know if it’s because I’m more comfortable now or because I appreciate having a job more, but honestly I’m having more fun now than I ever did before.” Thompson’s euphoric nature is contagious, as audiences will be smiling and laughing non stop during his rapid-fire comedy act. Although best known for his signature props—which include a new cell phone case he made for President Trump that consists of a clear box with Presidential seals and padlocks on it to prevent him from Tweeting late at night—Thompson’s show has evolved over the years and now features everything from stand-up comedy to music and sound effects. “With technology today, everything is so fast paced that people have an attention span of zero, so I make sure the show moves fast,” Thompson said. “I just want people to get away from all the crap in the world for a little while and have a good laugh.” Although Thompson is appreciative of all the fans who come out to see him, he does enjoy the one day of the year he gets to be anybody but Carrot Top—Halloween. Christian Cagigal captivates with ghostly knowledge on The San Francisco Ghost Hunt
STORIES OF SAN FRANCISCO HISTORY IS RESURRECTED IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA By Sean Davies
T
he San Francisco Bay Area is as old as the country it’s in and has been torn apart by fire and earthquake and rebuilt many times since its 1776 inception. Steeped in history, every corner of this coastal port of call sings with the stories of those who have passed, making it a unique location to explore during the Halloween season.
THE SAN FRANCISCO GHOST HUNT
Located in San Jose in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Winchester Mystery House is a lavish Victorian-era mansion built by the late Sarah L. Winchester. Under the advice of a spiritual medium, Winchester commissioned the home’s grandiose structure in order to appease the spirits of those killed by “The Gun that Won the West.” These spectres are said to still stalk the halls of the 160-room manor, and during a limited time during the Halloween season, guests are invited to wander the mansion with only the company of a flickering candle light to see what lost souls still remain. winchestermysteryhouse.com
ALCATRAZ ISLAND
Across the bay lies one of America’s most inescapable prisons, once home to some of the most notorious criminals the country has ever known. A ferry ride from Pier 33, Alcatraz Island still stands as a monument to the prison, as well as the first lighthouse and U.S. built fort on the West Coast. Guests are invited to explore the grounds in both guided and self-guided tours, visiting the cell blocks, mess halls and baseball field where Al Capone once roamed, and where Native Americans fought for their rights in the 1960s, occupying the national park that was once their land. The island is nothing short of historic, and the stories found on The Rock are at times fascinating and spine-tingling, echoing the voices that lived and were lost in the icy waters of the San Francisco Bay. nps.gov/alca 54

Renowned magician, storyteller and occult expert Christian Cagigal leads the San Francisco Ghost Hunt, as he takes guests on a walking tour to resurrect the spirits that once strolled beneath the Victorian architecture of Pacific Heights. Under the glow of the lantern light, Cagigal captivates his audience with humor and horror, delving into the history of the aged neighborhood during this 90 minute tour. The pace is relaxed, the views are splendid, and the evening is downright magical, which explains why The San Francisco Ghost Hunt won the award for Best Tour from San Francisco Bay Guardian. sfghosthunt.com

Ghosts still walk the halls aboard the Queen Mary
HORROR ON THE HIGH SEAS THE QUEEN MARY HAS TALES TO TELL By Connor McIlveen
W
ith Halloween quickly approaching, visitors to California are hunting for haunts to put them in the seasonal spirit, and what’s more haunting than the storied past of one of America’s most haunted locations? As one of the most technologically advanced ocean liners of its time, the Queen Mary has lived many lives and accrued many tales of romance, adventure and death.
Originally intended to operate as a luxury vessel for celebrities, royalty and anyone who could afford the ticket price, the Queen Mary’s days of opulent oceanic travel were cut short by the arrival of World War II. It’s record breaking size and speed were crucial for transporting large numbers of Allied forces, earning it the nickname “The Grey Ghost.” Following the war, the grandiose ocean liner returned to its original duty, until finally docking in Long Beach, Cal. in 1967. The Queen Mary offers plenty of tours and exhibits that delve into the majesty of the ship’s past, and there are a select few which put guests up close to the darker underbelly of a vessel that has lived through war and peace. The Ghosts & Legends tour literally takes guests into that underbelly, allowing day-time visitors the chance to explore places like the boiler room, where twisting metal and fiery temperatures spelled doom for a few unfortunate souls.

Learn about the spirits that still stalk the ship on the Haunted Encounters tour
Haunted Harbor takes over the Queen Mary for 23 nights of horror
For braver travelers, there are two different nighttime attractions. The Paranormal Investigations tour, lead by para investigator Matthew Schulz, takes guests into paranormal hotspots on the ship that Time Magazine hails as one of “America’s Top 10 Most Haunted” places. The Paranormal Ship Walk delves into the history of the ship while visiting paranormal hotspots, allowing visitors to discern for themselves whether ghosts truly walk the halls. For the Halloween season, the Queen Mary plays host to the Dark Harbor, a bone-chilling 23-night engagement, where tortured souls and spirits descend upon the grounds in several secret bars, scary mazes and aerial and fire shows. Tickets for this hauntingly immersive experience are on sale now, as well as the opportunity to book a room and stay aboard during the time of the year when the spirits are said to be the most active. queenmary.com CALIFORNIA

DOWNTOWN PHOENIX EATS NEW RESTAURANTS IN DOWNTOWN PHOENIX By Matt Seli
O
nce a location known to both locals and visitors as just a spot for large corporate buildings and sports venues, downtown Phoenix has transformed into an entertainment district unlike anything else in Arizona. Bars, restaurants, upscale apartments, comedy and music venues and gameday hangouts line the streets, making this a must-visit part of the Valley. Perhaps the most noticeable difference over the years has been the number of unique restaurants that have made homes in downtown Phoenix.
TACO CHELO
While Phoenix isn’t the first city that comes to mind when thinking about barbecue, Trapp Haus BBQ on Roosevelt Row may just change that. Local griller Phil Johnson, once a contestant on Food Network’s “Chopped Grill Masters,” has brought his food truck to Phoenix, and now his first brick-and-mortar restaurant, Trapp Haus BBQ on Roosevelt Row. Although Trapp Haus is a new restaurant, favorite menu items have already emerged such as the Boss Hog, hickory smoked Brisket BBQ Platter and the New York Hot Pastrami “Reuben Style.” trapphausbbq.com

During the winter months, when they are not on summer tour, this includes the B-17 Flying Fortress, “Sentimental Journey,” and the B-25 Mitchell, “Maid in the Shade.” Set aside at least three hours to view the warbirds, discover the items in display cases and watch vintage films. Depending on the day, you may also be able to board some of the planes and see mechanics restoring others. Docents, many with stories of their time as combat pilots, are available to answer questions and lead tours.
roughly 75 years ago. You can book a flight in advance on one of the museum’s seven warbirds, including its B-17, B-25, T-6 Texan and opencockpit Stearman biplane. Flights generally last 20-25 minutes and can be less intense than a commercial flight or, depending on the plane, include simulated strafing and acrobatics. On two-seater flights, let the pilot know how adventurous (or not) you want to be. Either way, you’ll enjoy incredible views of canyon lakes and the Superstition Mountains. The museum hosts several events throughout the year. In October, celebrate Bomber Homecoming as the B-17 and B-25 land with fanfare following their nationwide summer tour. November’s Gathering of the Legends gives you the opportunity to meet combat veterans who flew planes like the ones on display. Check the museum’s online calendar for exact dates and times for all events.

Vertuccio Farms designs a new maze every year for its corn field
A-MAZING CORN MAZES CELEBRATE FALL AT THESE THREE PHOENIX AREA MAZES By Teresa Bitler
O
n approach to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, don’t be surprised to spot a corn maze or two. Farms on the east and west sides of the Valley host fall festivals, including some with elaborate corn mazes.
SCHNEPF FARMS
The Pumpkin & Chili Party at Schnepf Farms features hayrides, bonfires with marshmallow roasting, a zip line, rock climbing wall, rollercoaster, pumpkin patch and even fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights. But, the event is also known for its four and 10-acre corn mazes. In the past, the 10-acre maze has been designed to feature celebrities like Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. This year, the maze will showcase the likeness of three heroes, and the PA system will play stories telling of the heroes in people’s lives.
TOLMACHOFF FARMS
In the West Valley, head to Tolmachoff Farms for its Corn Maze & Pumpkin Days, where you can explore not one, not two but three corn mazes. The first corn maze, a mini maze, is intended for young kids while the six-acre corn maze is intended for families. Both are included with general admission ($12), which also lets you enjoy the petting zoo, bounce house and other activities. For an additional $15, though, you can test your nerves in the haunted corn maze filled with spooky scenes and costumed actors. The fourth generation farm’s festivities run daily the entire month of October. For more information about Corn Maze & Pumpkin Days, visit www.tolmachoff-farms.com. To learn more about the haunted corn maze, visit azfieldofscreams.com.
Admission to the Pumpkin & Chili Party ($20 at the gate, $15 in advance at Fry’s Marketplace) includes the mazes and most activities. The event runs every Thursday-Sunday through October. schnepffarms.com

Just south of the airport, Vertuccio Farms celebrates its Corn Maze & Fall Festival daily through October with mini golf, bounce houses, pumpkin bowling, live entertainment, crafts and more. There’s also a hay maze for young ones and a seven-acre corn maze for adults and families with older kids. Expect to spend at least 30 minutes navigating your way through the corn maze, which is included in the $10 admission price. For a more challenging experience, come after dark. Flashlights and glow sticks to light your way are available for purchase, or you can bring your own. vertucciofarm.com

Trio of tacos are one of the stars of Roland’s Café Market Bar’s menu
IN WITH THE NEW LOCAL EATERIES WITH A BUZZ By Amy Young
T
rying to keep up with new restaurants as they open in the Valley of the Sun is like playing Whack-a-mole—it’s hard to hit them all, but it sure is fun to try. Whether it’s a popular chef’s latest endeavor or a rowdy brew pub bustling with sports fans snacking on bar bites, testing out the latest dining spots is a great way to make new places old favorites.
ROLAND’S CAFÉ MARKET BAR
The crowd is ready to drink and dine at The Brass Tap Craft Beer Bar
THE BRASS TAP CRAFT BEER BAR
Even when you’re starving, it can be hard to make a decision. This downtown Gilbert stop for food and craft beer doesn’t make it easy. The list of beers is packed with clever-titled varieties, like Four Sons’ Land of Hopportunity. The menu offers a slew of elevated bar favorites. Prime Rib Nachos are a standout. The tender beef tops the chips, joining forces with three cheeses: beer, cheddar jack and cotija. Peppadew peppers and jalapenos make this a dish with a kick. The hand-cut Tempura Beer-battered Fish and Chips are worth it for the malt vinegar aioli alone. brasstapbeerbar.com
OSTERIA
A bounty of bite-sized delectables at Osteria 70
DINING
The vibe at this Italian restaurant in Mesa is warm and welcoming. It’s great for a date or, when the noteworthy Arizona weather permits, gathering a group for patio dining. When it comes to salad, they’ve got refreshing covered. The burrata finds semi-soft Italian cheese amidst sweet and herby components like peaches, basil and saba syrup. Seafood fans shouldn’t pass by the Bucatini. Clams, white wine, garlic and herbs top the base of the spaghetti-like noodles with a hollow center. If you have room for dessert, Ricotta Cheesecake and Flourless Chocolate Cake are just a few of the many rich confections. osteriausa.com

This recent addition to the downtown Phoenix dining scene is a result of a powerful union. Nadia Holguin and Armando Hernandez of Tacos Chiwas and prominent pizza maker
Chris Bianco came together to bring new life and a stylish look to a 100-year-old building. The group also built a unique menu based on favorite foods from their respective roots. The open-faced, thin and exceptionally crispy quesadillas range from a simple cheesy option with asadero and mozzarella to one with avocado, asadero and tasty chunks of mortadella. Tender pork, refried beans and a zesty red sauce comprise the Chile Colorado Burrito. Grab a table or stroll up to the spacious bar and ogle the eye-catching features. rolandsphx.com

THANK YOU ALLEGIANT
I just wanted to say we had a very pleasant interaction with one of your employees. It was our first time flying with our infant, and with so many different airline baggage rules, I easily get confused and frustrated. He did a great job helping everyone in line and answering all their questions and addressing everyone’s concerns. His help made our trip easier and more pleasant.
- Anne R, Ohio
I don’t fly often. I dread flights because I am not familiar with all the procedures. The staff on your flight from Orlando to Huntington was so accommodating, helpful and polite. Friendly does not begin to describe my experience with Allegiant. Affordable rates and excellent service equals a highly recommended flying experience. Keep up the great work!
- Brandon B, West Virginia
This was my first time traveling by plane in a while – something I’ve avoided for seven years. But the flight crew from Rockford to Sanford helped me get though it. Gina and the other crew were so stellar and immediately put me at ease. I hope they are on the return flight back.

TOP HOTEL PICKS IN LOS ANGELES By Auriyon Butler
L
et’s face it: When vacationing in Southern California, you want to be close to the beach. So close, you can hear the waves crash and smell the sea breeze right from your hotel room. We’ve listed three hotels below that will not disappoint.
HYATT REGENCY HUNTINGTON BEACH
Photos of The Paséa Hotel courtesy of Pasea Hotel & Spa; Courtyard Santa Monica courtesy of Marriott
Hit the waves in Los Angeles during your stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. This hotel is just a short walk to the beach, and along with its relaxing rooms, remains
one of Allegiant’s top selling properties in Los Angeles. This property offers a variety of dining options, but we recommend trying the famous fish tacos at Pete’s Sunset Bar with crispy shrimp, avocado, pico de gallo, roasted jalapeno, cilantro and cabbage slaw. The hotel is near a tremendous amount of attractions when you get tired of lounging under the sun, such as Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm.
PASÉA HOTEL & SPA
This ocean-front property is just jaw-dropping, as well as the perfect place to have fun, enjoy great eats and relax. Their lovely spa has a couple’s suite and private spa garden with a tranquil water feature. For dinner, head down to Tanner’s Restaurant and enjoy a variety of menu selections from Roasted Salmon to Wood Grilled Ono. The rooms are very spacious and have stunning views of the beach. It’s the perfect choice for those celebrating a special occasion.
COURTYARD SANTA MONICA The Paséa Hotel offers amazing ocean views
The brand new Courtyard Santa Monica
Newly built, this Courtyard is located in the heart of Santa Monica (a trip to Los Angeles is never complete without a visit to Santa Monica). Embrace the laid-back vibe and nosh on a variety of beach favorites like hot dogs and churros. There are also plenty of restaurants in the area specializing in seafood with entrees like crab legs, stuffed shrimp and salmon. Venturing out to the rest of LA is easy by catching the Expo Line (LA’s light rail system) across the street that takes you downtown where you can shop till you drop in the fashion district. Allegiant flight attendants: One big family
2,4,6,8, WHO DO WE APPRECIATE… FLIGHT ATTENDANTS! By Kerry McGee
T
hey are the face of our operation, the heart of our business and their primary focus day to day revolves around serving other people and providing exceptional customer service. Through their kindness and compassion, they truly embody our values, especially safety, flexibility, and teamwork. Every October, we say “thank you” to our flight attendants a little more often in honor of our annual Flight Attendant Appreciation Month. The entire Allegiant team extends their heartfelt thanks to the more than 1,000 flight attendants who have already served more than 8 million customers just this year. When asked why they love their job, the answers are never self-serving, providing great insight into who they are and what they are passionate about:

SPOTLIGHT
“I love Allegiant and all of my team members. We are a big family, and I’m so grateful to be able to fly and work for this amazing airline.” - Jorge Alvarez, Punta Gorda, Florida “I’ve been here for six and a half years, and I made some of my best friends (and husband!) here. My mom is also a flight attendant with us. I love my Allegiant family and all of the memories I have made.” Candice Smith, Los Angeles In addition to our appreciation month in October, we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our team members purchase and wear pink Allegiant apparel, and flight attendants sell pink lemonade onboard (they accept donations as well) with a portion of both proceeds donated to National Breast Cancer Foundation. Since 2015, we have donated more than $80,000, and this year will be just as successful!

“I have been a flight attendant here for six years and could not be more fortunate to be part of this growing family. I am proud to be part of an amazing team with such great customers, and I would never trade
my wings in for anywhere else!” Jessica Tan, Las Vegas

PROUD IN PINK By Christoper Lewis

rom NFL football players to Allegiant’s flight crews, October means pink. Walking down the aisle, you’ll find flight attendants in brightly colored polos, belts and scarves, and if you peak into the cockpit, you’ll see pilots sporting the color via ties and epaulets. It’s all for a good cause of course: By now, you know it’s in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Photos courtesy of Allegiant
It’s one of the leading health crises for women in the United States as about one in every eight women will develop breast cancer. It’s a disease with no known cure, and one where early detection is critical to survival.
$1, $2, $5 or any multiples of these amounts during their flight, in addition to purchasing pink lemonade. In recognition of their onboard donations, passengers will receive an I GIVE HOPE sticker in show of their support. Since 2015, Allegiant has donated over $82,000 in support of the organization’s mission. Over 80 percent of funds donated to NBCF goes to programs such as free mammograms and educational resources.
“Allegiant is proud to partner with National Breast Cancer Foundation on their mission to provide help and inspire hope to those affected by breast cancer through early detection, education and support services,” said Jay Lee, Allegiant’s director of inflight training, standards and compliance. “Our team members purchase pink apparel to wear in October to support NBCF, and the sale of Minute Maid Pink Lemonade onboard allows our passengers to get involved in this worthwhile cause as well.” This year, Allegiant has increased the opportunities for passengers to give by offering them the ability to donate
