reakfast may be the most important meal of the day, but let’s be honest: after a night on the town in Las Vegas, you may not be in the mood to wake up early the next morning. Luckily, there are plenty of places on the Strip that offer bountiful brunch spreads so guests can start their day off right—even if it doesn’t officially begin until the afternoon.
CRAVINGS AT THE MIRAGE
One of the few buffets on the Strip that offers brunch daily, Cravings serves a delicious Midweek Brunch Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a Champagne Brunch featuring unlimited champagne Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both include unlimited beer and wine with your meal. In addition to early-morning favorites like French toast and eggs Benedict, guests can dig in to fresh-carved roasted beef ribeye and chilled jumbo shrimp. Other tasty selections include the smoked bone-in ham with a pineapple and brown sugar glaze and the turkey sausage links.

SPICE MARKET BUFFET AT PLANET HOLLYWOOD RESORT & CASINO
Diners can enjoy unlimited champagne and mimosas at this hearty buffet’s Champagne Brunch, offered Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Boasting an impressive selection of items from around the world, including Mexican, Asian, Italian and Middle Eastern, guests can try everything from tandoori chicken kabobs to juicy prime rib. While items lean more toward lunchtime fare, breakfast favorites like waffles, pancakes and made-toorder omelets are represented as well. Must-tries include the flavorful Mexican corn, Cajun crawfish pasta, baklava and fresh-made crepes.
MOZEN BISTRO AT MANDARIN ORIENTAL, LAS VEGAS
Though not a traditional buffet, this stylish bistro boasts one of the most exquisite all-you-can-eat brunch experiences in town every Sunday from noon to 2:30 p.m. Not only can guests feast upon a variety of items served buffet style, like sushi, oysters and freshly carved barbecue pork, but they also get to choose an entrée from a menu of fresh-made selections, like the palate-pleasing Potato Gnocchi with Parmesan cream, pesto, cherry tomatoes and toasted pine nuts or the Matcha Waffle with lychee compote, passion fruit cream and green tea sugar. It’s important to pace yourself throughout your meal, as it can be easy to fill up on items from the sumptuous smorgasbord before your entrée arrives. You’ll also want to save room for dessert: the buffet’s beautifully plated treats are delightful.

LUCILLE’S SMOKEHOUSE BAR-B-QUE AT RED ROCK RESORT AND THE DISTRICT AT GREEN VALLEY RANCH
Guests can enjoy a variety of meats cooked low and slow over hickory wood at this Californiabased favorite. Meats are smoked upwards of 10, 15, even 20 hours at a constant temperature of 225 degrees, then served with a side of Southern hospitality. Must-tries include the tender BBQ Tri Tip and the Smoked BBQ Half Chicken marinated in Lucille’s Original BBQ sauce for 24 hours. Hot & Spicy and Memphis BBQ sauces are available, too. Whatever you decide on, be sure to pair your selection(s) with an order of cornbread, and don’t forget to wash everything down with a glass of the refreshing Back Porch Strawberry Lemonade: a mixture of Skyy Infusions Wild Strawberry vodka, Hiram Walker Triple Sec and Lucille’s fresh strawberry lemonade with a splash of soda.
RICK’S ROLLIN SMOKE BBQ & TAVERN

as Vegas might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of great barbecue. t’s an old school concept, but tableside service is alive and well in Las Vegas. Trained servers wheel carts out to prepare classic dishes right in front of guests, and you get to see the magic happen with your favorite starters and desserts. You can even taste the pride that goes into perfecting these dishes with a live audience.
ablaze for that extra bit of wow factor. Made with Bailey’s Irish Crème, Kahlua and coffee, of course, plus an extra shot of Bacardi 151 to ensure that the flames go high, the concoction is poured back and forth between two goblets to mix it all together. Topped with whipped cream, it’s a satisfying finish to a fantastic meal. Be careful, it’s hot!
STRIP HOUSE
JOE VICARI’S ANDIAMO ITALIAN STEAKHOUSE
There are plenty of spots that will toss greens, vegetables, croutons and other accoutrements together in front of you and call it a salad, but Joe Vicari’s Andiamo Italian Steakhouse at the D goes the whole nine yards for a proper Caesar salad dressing. And you get to dictate just how you like it. Prefer a more tangy dressing? A little more lemon, please. Love that savory punch? Be generous with the anchovies and garlic! After a few minutes of vigorously beating raw egg yolks, seasonings and oil into an emulsion, the result is a creamy, rich dressing that’s fit to be called Caesar.

The Strip Tease menu at Strip House located in Planet Hollywood offers a romantic rendezvous. Next, a dry-aged Heritage 1855 New York Strip is carved just for you, served with sides of Strip House’s famous goose fat potatoes and black truffle creamed spinach. Finally, it’s a sweet finish with traditional Baked Alaska, flambéed right before your eyes. The true beauty of it? Since you shared everything, you and your sweetie don’t leave super stuffed.

VIA BRASIL STEAKHOUSE
THE HABIT BURGER GRILL
Via Brasil Steakhouse offers a tender filet entree
The new burger chain out of Santa Barbara, California, set up its first Las Vegas outpost just east of the Strip, where it’s dishing out solid, well-made burgers like they do at the original. Locals love their burgers, especially when they don’t have to be fancied up just to taste good. The classic Santa Barbara style is a huge hit right off the bat, if only for size alone. The double-char burger is dressed with mayo, pickles and caramelized onions, and then sandwiched between slices of toasted sourdough with cheese and avocados. Don’t miss out on the onion rings, served with quite possibly the best ranch dressing ever, made daily in-house. Located at 365 Hughes Center Dr., call 702.838.0593 or visit habitburger.com for more info.

In addition to the pies that made Sammy’s famous, this menu includes traditional Mediterranean mezze such as baba ghanoush and hummus, as well as entrees of braised lamb shank, tacos, burgers and wraps. Throw in fun cocktails and a decent wine list, and you’ve got a grown up version of the pizza joint. Located at 1501 N. Green Valley Parkway, call 858.456.8018 and sammysgreenvalley.com.

The buffets on the Strip don’t own the market on all-you-can-eat. This Brazilian restaurant is a churrascaria which, for the uninitiated, roughly translates from Portuguese as “barbecue.” But
this isn’t just ‘cue, this is Brazilian-style rodizio. Grilled meats of all shapes and sizes travel on massive skewers straight from the fire to your table, where servers will slice off as much—or as little—as you like. There’s picanha, the traditional Brazilian top sirloin, garlic steak, prime rib and tri-tip, just to name a few of the cuts roaming around the room. Feel good about your meaty indulgence with a trip to the salad bar for a few vegetables. Located at 1225 S. Fort Apache Road, call 702.804.1400 or visit viabrasilsteakhouse.com for more information.

MICHAEL’S MUSE GINA GLEASON HELPS BRINGS THE KING OF POP’S MUSIC TO LIFE LIKE NEVER BEFORE IN “MICHAEL JACKSON ONE” By Heather Turk
W
hen Gina Gleason was a child, her dad introduced her to Michael Jackson’s music for the first time by showing her the “Thriller” music video.
Photo of The “Smooth Criminal” number and The “Dirty Diana” photo by Isaac Brekken/Getty Images; costumes by Zaldy Goco
“I was so scared, but I couldn’t look away,” she recalled.
Gleason said. “I’ve never heard of anyone doing that before. I think it’s important, though, because Michael always had that female muse by his side—Jennifer Batten in the ’80s (and ’90s) and Orianthi during ‘This Is It’—shredding and playing guitar. So it’s cool that Cirque du Soleil chose to have one in the show to guide the other characters.”
“Never in a million years” did Gleason think she’d one day be performing in Cirque du Soleil’s remarkable tribute to the work, innovative spirit and legacy of the King of Pop: “Michael Jackson ONE.”
While Gleason admitted that sometimes she wants to “trail off” and play her own riffs during the production, she knows she can’t always do that given how familiar the songs are to fans.
As the character of The Muse, Gleason helps bring the music of Michael Jackson to life as the show’s solo guitar player and one of only two live musicians in the production (the other being singer Valerie Kimani).
“The guitar solo in ‘Beat It’ is classic. People want to hear that note for note, so I have to deliver,” she said. “But there are some songs, like ‘Dirty Diana,’ that have nice open parts I can shred in.”
“It’s cool that we use the original tracks but removed the guitar so I could play live,”
Although Gleason’s onstage for approximately half of the show, during one of her favorite moments she’s actually underneath it. “I love ‘Man in the Mirror,’” she said. “There’s this moment in the number, I won’t give it away, but audiences just lose their minds. It’s such a magical moment; I always try to catch it. It amps me up for the rest of the show.” A truly immersive musical experience, “Michael Jackson ONE” is just like the iconic artist at the heart of the production: one of a kind. “There’s so much new technology in the show,” Gleason said. “It’s such a spectacle to watch. Then you have such legendary music attached—it really enhances the experience that much more.”

From left to right, Ronnie Dunn, Reba and Kix Brooks share the stage during “REBA, BROOKS & DUNN: Together in Vegas”
REUNITED (AND IT FEELS SO GOOD) COUNTRY SUPERSTARS REBA AND BROOKS & DUNN RETURN TO THE STAGE FOR HIT-FILLED LAS VEGAS RESIDENCY By Heather Turk
T
he Colosseum at Caesars Palace has a rich history of hosting some of music’s biggest names, but it wasn’t until recently that two superstar acts began sharing the stage for one incredible show. Returning to Las Vegas just in time for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, country icons Reba and Brooks & Dunn will perform their new hit residency, “REBA, BROOKS & DUNN: Together in Vegas,” at The Colosseum select dates in December. The 90-minute production features more than 30 of the country superstars’ biggest hits backed by a 10-piece band comprised of members from both acts’ touring bands. “This isn’t structured like anything we’ve done before,” said Ronnie Dunn. “This is one cohesive show where more than half the time we’re together interacting.”
Reba likened the experience of performing a residency with her two best friends to summer camp, while Kix Brooks said it was “Capital F with a U-N behind it” and Dunn said the break he and Brooks took from performing together made things “fresher.”
“Of course a lot of songs got left behind,” Brooks said when discussing both acts’ extensive catalogs. “We knew we couldn’t go on playing forever because people would get tired, and once we decided on the songs we had to play, there wasn’t much time left. But I think we put together a great experience for the audience from top to bottom.” Now, the humble trio just hopes fans come to see them perform during the rodeo. “It’s such a fun, different show than you’d see anywhere else,” Reba said. “And if you’re a country music fan, you’ve probably heard of us,” Brooks joked. “REBA, BROOKS & DUNN: Together in Vegas” runs Dec. 1-2, 4, 6-9 and 11-12 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $59.50 to $205, plus tax and fees. To reserve your seats, visit thecolosseum.com.
“I’m having more fun singing than I remember,” Dunn, who last performed with Brooks in 2010, said. “I love that Reba and Kix are such hams, too. I had a friend tell me once that I’m a killer singer-songwriter, but that I suck at being a celebrity, so it’s nice having two strong personalities onstage.” The talented artists aren’t the only ones having a blast during the show. Blue Man Group will rock Luxor once again starting Nov. 18
HOME SWEET HOME MORE THAN A DECADE LATER, BLUE MAN GROUP RETURNS TO LUXOR WITH AN INTIMATE NEW PRODUCTION By Heather Turk
F
or the past three years, Blue Man Group has performed inside Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, but this November the bald and blue trio will be moving back to the first Las Vegas resort they ever called home: Luxor. Following MGM Resorts International’s decision to develop a 5,000-seat concert venue at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, it was announced in July that Blue Man Group would be returning to the property where they initially took Las Vegas by storm from 2000 to 2004. While the fall homecoming was unexpected, the cast and crew couldn’t have been more excited by the news. “Luxor was where Blue Man Group first exploded,” said Jack Kenn, Blue Man Group’s vice president, senior resident general manager. “We have very happy memories from our time there and know we’ll rekindle a beautiful partnership inside the pyramid.”
Performing inside the 830-seat venue previously constructed for Jabbawockeez (who will have moved back on Nov. 2 to the resort they first debuted in, MGM Grand, as part of the concert venue deal), Kenn said that Blue Man Group’s new Luxor show will “offer the intimacy of [Blue Man Group’s] Off-Broadway show in New York, but with all the spectacle of Las Vegas.” The furthest audience member will only be 90 feet away from the stage and, unlike the theater at Monte Carlo, all of the seats at Luxor are on the main floor, further enhancing the up-close-and-personal experience. “The audience has always been the fourth character in the show,” Kenn said. “They play a key role in the celebration that happens each night, and we expect this new environment to bring the Blue Men closer to the audience than ever before.” While fan favorites like “Feast” (where the Blue Men woo a lucky audience member with a Twinkie) will remain in the production, Kenn said the creative team has been working on some new segments as well to create a custom entertainment experience built for maximum impact. “Blue Man Group’s show is always evolving,” Kenn concluded. “Our company thrives on change, so we see this move as an opportunity to continue developing the curious Blue Man character and the Blue Man world. Even if you’ve seen Blue Man Group before, we promise you haven’t seen them like you will at Luxor.”

Matt Goss brings glamor back to Las Vegas with his new weekly residency inside The Gossy Room at Cleopatra’s Barge
A GLAMOROUS AFFAIR MATT GOSS’ NEW WEEKLY RESIDENCY WILL LEAVE AUDIENCES ‘FEELING GOOD’ By Heather Turk
V
intage Vegas is alive and well thanks to multi-platinum recording artist Matt Goss, whose hit Las Vegas residency has made The Gossy Room at Cleopatra’s Barge inside Caesars Palace the place to be since March 2010. Now performing four nights a week inside the intimate lounge, the former Bros singer told Sunseeker that his show is more “cheeky and glamorous” than ever before. During the near two-hour production, Goss performs a mix of original material and covers, including a fun swing version of the Eagles’ “Hotel California.” Accompanied by a nine-piece band, two backup singers and four Dirty Virgins—sexy burlesque dancers who perform in the audience—Goss has truly done the unthinkable with his show: made the Las Vegas lounge scene a place people of all ages want to be seen once again.
brings audience members out of their shells. “It’s just me, a guitar and some crowd participation,” Goss said. “It’s magic. The whole room connects.” By the time the show is over, it’s not uncommon for Goss to look out into the audience and see ticket holders “glowing” from the sweat on their brows. “Everyone is revved up,” he said. “People leave the showroom feeling elevated, and that feeling is reciprocated.” Matt Goss performs Tuesday and Friday through Sunday at 9:30 p.m. Tickets range from $60 to $125 for VIP seating, which includes a meet and greet with Goss. Visit caesarspalace.com for more information.
“I want to create the most glamorous show in the world,” Goss said. “These types of venues are becoming less and less cherished but more and more people want them. [The Gossy Room] offers a special quality: people come dressed up to enjoy some good old-fashioned music that moves their spirit, be treated respectfully and get some drinks or bottles at an affordable price. There’s no trickery; it’s ‘All About the Hang.’” Always working hard to put on the best production possible (“My shirt is drenched by the end of each show,” the tuxedo-clad crooner said with a laugh), Goss has never been more proud of his show.
One of Goss’ favorite numbers to perform each night, “Just for a Change,” is a piece that really 32

Izobel and Cianna Sturges look over the pages of the book they have written for a family vacationing in Southern Nevada
WHEN THE KIDS ASK, “ARE WE THERE YET?” SAY YES WITH A BOOK WRITTEN BY TWO LAS VEGAS KIDS! By Debbie Hall

ith so many families visiting Las Vegas, two young girls, with the help of their parents, decided to write Las Vegas … Are We There Yet? to share suggestions for a fun and memorable family vacation. Written and compiled by the Sturges family including parents Peter, Debbie and daughters Izobel and Cianna; insider tips, maps, checklists and souvenir pages are all part of the informational and keepsake book. In the 1990s, resorts reached out to families traveling to Southern Nevada and a number of attractions were created for children and their
parents. With a population of over 2 million, residents wanted fun for their kids as well, and Las Vegas soon grew with art, shows, culture and attractions everyone could enjoy. After moving from the Bay Area in 2001 and followed by the birth of their two children, the Sturges family “searched for great places and activities for kids, including arts and crafts, amusement parks, buffets and anything else for our children and for people visiting us with kids,” Peter Sturges told Sunseeker. “We experienced what we found and as a family we thought it would be a great idea to share in the form of a book.” “Our favorite place is Adventuredome at Circus Circus,” Cianna Sturges said. They also love the Fountains of Bellagio, Shark Reef, “MJ ONE” and Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas Water Park in season.
“The best part of the book is where you can write during the day,” Izobel Sturges explained. “You can put your own pictures in the book.” The book and the family have been honored by local government officials as well as a letter from First Lady Michelle Obama congratulating the family on their accomplishment.

ashion Show has always been a favorite with holiday shoppers in Las Vegas, but this year the popular retail center is making it easier than ever to find that perfect present for everyone on your gift-giving list. In November, the Strip retail destination will be unveiling a new “front door” facing Las Vegas Boulevard. The redevelopment includes a 22,000-square-foot addition that features three new full-service restaurants and seven freestanding shops, including such unique concepts as the Davidoff of Geneva Cigar Bar. Additionally, international fashion company Zara recently expanded its footprint to more than 30,000 square feet, nearly tripling the store’s previous size. The newly expanded location features a 3,300-square-foot children’s department, too.

Not just a holiday shopping destination, Fashion Show is also great for shoppers in town for Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Guests can find an assortment of handcrafted buckles, belts and southwestern jewelry at Pinto Ranch as well as the largest selection of handmade cowboy boots in the U.S. When it’s time to refuel, shoppers can grab a quick bite to eat at Fashion Show’s expansive foot court or enjoy a more leisurely meal at one of its many sit-down restaurants, such as The Capital Grille. For a complete list of Fashion Show’s many tenants and up-to-date holiday hours, visit thefashionshow.com.
Berger & Son Fine Jewelers will soon be moving into a larger location as well, just steps inside the front doors of the retail center. Offering an extensive line of jewelry, timepieces and services, the new location will be more than double the size of the existing store and is scheduled to open in December. For those looking for something for the athlete in your family, Fashion Show welcomed its eighth anchor store, DICK’s Sporting Goods, in October. The store joins Fashion Show’s seven other anchors—Macy’s, Macy’s Men’s, Forever 21, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus—and marks the retailer’s first location on the Las Vegas Strip.

LAS VEGAS STYLE WESTERN FUN THE WORLD’S BEST COWBOYS AND COWGIRLS COMPETE FOR $10 MILLION AT WRANGLER NATIONAL FINALS RODEO
T
he Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is the richest and most prestigious rodeo in the world, and it has been held in Las Vegas for three decades. As the Las Vegas/NFR partnership enters its fourth decade, the cowboys and cowgirls who ride for glory will also be trying to stake their claim on a total purse of $10 million, the largest in history. The rodeo is as popular with the fans as it is with the gladiators in the arena. Fans absolutely love the Wrangler NFR for both the competition and the ongoing excitement that surrounds the rodeo action. First held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas in 1985, the Wrangler NFR has become a December tradition in Las Vegas. In 2014, the event reached an all-time total attendance record of 177,565. Overall, the rodeo has sold out for 290-straight go ‘rounds, including this year’s event.

At the arena, rodeo fans are in for greater excitement due to the extensive renovations at the Thomas & Mack Center. About $72 million has been put to work for renovations that will wow fans. The modernization includes increased ADA seating, improved entrances and exits and additional restrooms and concessions. For 2016, the look and feel will be highlighted by a 36,000-square-foot hospitality area that overlooks the Las Vegas Strip. “In our 30-year run in Las Vegas, the Thomas & Mack Center has been our only home,” said Pat Christenson, president of Las Vegas Events. “There are no sightlines in sports as good as those in this arena. The major improvements they are making will greatly enhance the experience for our fans.” NFR tickets are available through the onsite ticket exchange at Cowboy Christmas. Cowboy Christmas runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Shuttles to major resorts are available. For more information, visit nfrexperience.com.

Rodeo school is in session when Legendary TV host Jeff Medders talks Wrangler NFR
WRANGLER NFR 101 JEFF MEDDERS SHARES HIS INSIDER’S VIEW ABOUT THE SUPERBOWL OF RODEO
J
eff Medders has seen just about everything in the world of rodeo as a television broadcaster for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo since 1991. So who better to give Sunseeker readers a unique analysis (which can be enjoyed by both veteran and novice fans) of the richest and most prestigious rodeo in the world? Sunseeker: What is best way to describe the Wrangler NFR to anyone who hasn’t experienced it? Jeff Medders: That is a tough question! It has been called the “Super Bowl of Rodeo” and the “Greatest Show on Dirt,” but I’d say the best description is that it is a whirlwind of part cowboy and part Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus. It starts fast and gets even faster! It is the ultimate cowboy party—hard knocks, great rides, fast runs and amazing celebrations. If you haven’t been to the Wrangler NFR, you need to get it on your bucket list!
Photos by Tom Donoghue
SS: How can someone enjoy the NFR if they don’t know a header from a heeler? JM: You don’t have to know football to appreciate Peyton Manning. You don’t have to live and breathe soccer to understand the magic that is Messi. Rodeo is the ultimate American sport. You will grasp how tough these competitors are and how skilled they are to reach this pinnacle of their sport. There are no guaranteed contracts and no uber-rich salaries. These guys have to compete and win to get paid, and that motivation and the love they have for their sport provides all the motivation they need.

understand it, you realize it’s poetry in motion. A cowboy matching a highly-skilled bull jump for jump is something to behold. Spectator tip: Another great tip to attending a “go round” at the Thomas and Mack Center is to arrive early and stay late. Several interactive areas with great food and drink, in addition to live entertainment, are available before and after the performance and both inside and outside of the arena. It’s beginning to look a lot like … Wrangler NFR Cowboy Christmas at Las Vegas Convention Center
COWBOY CHRISTMAS, A TRUE WESTERN LIFESTYLE EXPERIENCE NEW SIZZLE INCLUDES ROCKY MOUNTAIN ELK FOUNDATION HUNTER AND OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS EXPO
C
owboy Christmas, the original Wrangler National Finals Rodeo gift show held during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, is a certified phenomenon. More than 200,000 fans of the cowboy lifestyle visited this event in 2014, and that attendance figure will surely be shattered this winter in Las Vegas, the home of the Wrangler NFR for three decades. Several new Cowboy Christmas elements will debut, most notably the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Hunter and Outdoor Christmas Expo, located with Cowboy Christmas in the events’ new location in the South Halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center. The RMEF Show will be open for all 10 days of Cowboy Christmas. RMEF organizers believe it will become the largest and most successful hunting and outdoor-related expo in the United States.

As for the Cowboy Christmas, more than 400,000 square feet of show floor will be covered with the wares of 400 plus vendors from across the United States. They will showcase a unique variety of products including customized jewelry, western wear, boots and spurs, furniture, original art, handmade crafts and pottery. Cowboy Christmas

is also the top spot in Vegas to get your official Wrangler NFR and PRCA merchandise. Another new show element will be double the shuttle service from Wrangler NFR-partner resorts to Cowboy Christmas. The Cowboy Christmas Express presented by YETI Coolers starts daily at 8:30 a.m. and continues to 4:30 p.m. each day of the event. Shuttles are available from Aria, Excalibur, Golden Nugget, The Mirage, Monte Carlo, The Orleans, South Point and Treasure Island. Dedicated Cowboy Christmas fans will have reason to celebrate, as some of the most popular elements of the show are coming back, and will be bigger than ever. Returning are Rodeo Live presented by RODEOHOUSTON, the Coors Rodeo Saloon, Lucas Oil Rodeo Way committee exhibits, Wrangler Rodeo Arena, NFR Social Arena presented by YETI Coolers, Great Wall of Rodeo presented by Calgary Stampede and several other favorites. Cowboy Christmas is open Dec. 3-12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more info, visit nfrexperience.com.

t should come as no surprise that one of the most popular places for rodeo fans to hang out at during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is the same place cowboys and cowgirls go to kick up their heels when they’re on the Las Vegas Strip: Gilley’s Saloon, Dance Hall & BBQ at Treasure Island. Home to the world-famous Gilley Girls (sexy servers donning bikinis, chaps, cowgirl boots and cowboy hats), Gilley’s will once again be hosting live country entertainment throughout the 10-day

event as well as an NFR Bull Riders autograph session on Dec. 8 at noon. Guests can put the dance hall’s 1,000-square-foot dance floor to use when country music duo LOCASH (formerly known as LoCash Cowboys) performs with special guests Rainey Qualley Dec. 7-9 and Olivia Lane Dec. 10-12. A $10 cover fee applies in the dance hall/saloon after 9 p.m. Visitors can also test out their strength and stamina on Gilley’s mechanical bull for a nominal fee. For those who might need a little liquid encouragement beforehand, Gilley’s will be offering 2-for-1 Crown Royal, Bulleit Bourbon or Crown Royal Regal Apple shots or cocktails daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. as well as buckets of Bud Light (five bottles) for $20. When it’s time to feed that cowboy-sized appetite, Gilley’s serves some of the best barbecue in town. Guests can dine inside of the Strip-front restaurant and watch passersby through floorto-ceiling windows as they feast upon a menu of mouthwatering dishes, like the tasty Chili Cheese Fries and Tots and the smoked BBQ Short Rib with a Dr. Pepper BBQ glaze. If you opt for one of Gilley’s BBQ Combos, be sure to order the half rotisserie chicken—it might just be the juiciest chicken on the Strip! For cowgirls (or cowboys) watching their figure, the Apple Chicken Salad— Granny Smith apples, grilled chicken, almonds, blue cheese and mixed greens with an agave nectar vinaigrette—is a must. One bite and you’ll be hard-pressed to think of another salad so full of flavor. Gilley’s also recently introduced a menu of bourbon and whiskey flights as well as a fun VS tasting menu for $15 that pits one bourbon or whiskey against another and leaves it up to guests to decide which one is the best. Originally formed from a partnership between a pornographer (Harry Mohney) and a preacher (Reverend Ted McIlvenna), this museum is dedicated to sex—and it’s definitely not a place for the under 21 crowd. Located at 3275 Industrial Road, expect to see books, photographs and a variety of artistic expressions portraying lovemaking. Take a stroll through a collection of more than 150 rescued neon signs in this museum’s Neon Boneyard at 770 N. Las Vegas Blvd. You’ll spy letters from signs that hung outside the long-gone Stardust, Moulin Rouge and Sahara hotels. See the giant pool player that once graced Doc and Eddy’s Pool Hall and the intricately bent glass of the Yucca Motel sign. A visitors’ center is housed inside the historic shell-shaped La Concha Motel lobby designed by Paul Revere Williams. Day and night tours are available. For more information, visit neonmuseum.org.

You’re sure to have a blast in this scienceoriented institution at 755 E. Flamingo Road. Find out about the Nevada Test Site’s atomic weapons testing program and use a Geiger counter to check objects for radioactivity. The Ground Zero Theater simulates a nuclear bomb
Although this nonprofit attraction has earned museum status, you can still play its exhibits. More than 200 games are housed here. There are pinball machines with every imaginable theme—from Shaq Attaq to Tee’d Off. Try your hand at Jig-Saw (built in 1933) and the upright Pinball Circus (made in 1993). The Pinball Hall of Fame is at 1610 E. Tropicana Ave. Admission is free, but most games cost between a quarter and $1 to play. Funds support local charities including the Salvation Army. ITSY BITSY: RAMEN AND WHISKY
Taste buds are sure to relish the ramen at this intimate Japanese-style tavern located at the base of The Ogden. A far cry from the instant ramen college students survive on, guests get to pick their own noodles (thick or thin), broth (tonkotsu, miso or shoyu) and mix-ins, like buttered corn and spicy meat. Hand rolls and rice bowls are available, too, as well as a selection of small plates and robata skewers. While the ramen is filling by itself, don’t miss out on the Japanese Street Corn brushed with miso butter—it’s perfect for sharing, but so good you’ll want it all to yourself!
best sandwiches (try the mouthwatering Miami Cuban made with ham, pulled pork, Swiss cheese and pickle), while taking in archival artwork of Bugsy Siegel and his inner circle of mobsters on the walls. In the evening, several favorites from the hotel’s beloved steakhouse The Flame (which Siegel’s 1941 replaced) are offered, too, including 12- and 16-ounce cuts of Roast Prime Rib of Beef Au Jus. Whatever you decide on, be sure to start your meal with the scrumptious Poutine and don’t forget the delicious Apple Cobbler for dessert.

Open for lunch and dinner, this dining gem at 518 E. Fremont St. is the perfect place for discerning diners to cure their hunger pangs. Serving an American gastro-style menu complemented by a full bar program with more than 40 craft beers, nothing at Therapy disappoints. While larger plates are available, Sunseeker recommends ordering an assortment of small plates to share with the table, like the amazing Oxtail Empanadas served with a harissa lime crème fraiche. Other must-tries include the flavorful Chicken and Red Velvet Waffle Slider with a red pepper remoulade slaw and the luscious “In the Gnudi”—baked ricotta served with truffle honey, fig jam, roasted almonds and cranberry and walnut crostini.

BANGER BREWING
There’s a pint perfect for every palate here. Located in Neonopolis at Fremont Street Experience, Banger Brewing was started by a group of childhood friends. Opened in late 2013, this craft brewery’s list of recipes is constantly growing. On any given day you can knock back the DTB (a brown ale) or Hops Anonymous (an IPA). You will also find some unorthodox brews—things like the Morning Joe, which is infused with French caramel and hazelnut coffee, or El Heffe, a hefeweizen made with roasted jalapeño and serrano peppers. Free tours of the facilities are given daily and happy hour runs Monday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Visit bangerbrewing.com.

You can also imbibe the Triple 7 Brewmaster’s Special, a rotating monthly creation that includes such delights as the Raspberry Wheat and Black Cherry Stout. Can’t decide which beer to try? Get the sampler—it contains a five-ounce pour of each microbrew. Happy hour specials are offered Monday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Call 702.387.1896.
HOP NUTS BREWING
Situated in the Arts District at 1120 S. Main St., this newcomer to the beer scene opened last February. It pours about seven classic brews (try the Green Mamba Double IPA and Papa’s Red Ale) and two seasonal concoctions (such as the light-bodied ale Nelson’s Landing). There are usually a few guest beers on tap as well. Beers are served by the pint, goblet or flight. The vibe at Hop Nuts is relaxed due to the industrial-style décor featuring an old wood bar and plenty of tall stools. The brewing equipment is visible through windows at the back. Take advantage of “Hoppy Hour” daily from 4 to 7 p.m. Go to hopnutsbrewing.com.

A SURE BET FOR A GREAT TIME EXPERIENCE THE GRANDEUR OF DOWNTOWN GRAND LAS VEGAS By Heather Turk
O
ne of the nicest hotels in downtown Las Vegas is located just steps away from the Fremont Street Experience.
Within walking distance of the popular downtown attraction, visitors will discover Downtown Grand Las Vegas, a 629-room hotel located on 3rd Street. The hotel celebrated its second anniversary in October and continues to remain one of downtown Las Vegas’ coolest properties. Offering comfortably appointed rooms ranging from 350 to 1,200 square feet, a seasonal rooftop pool and several delectable dining options, Downtown Grand is a sure bet for a great time without having to break the bank.

For those who want to test their luck on the casino floor, Downtown Grand offers 25,000 square feet of gaming space with live table games, 500 slot machines and video poker. The industrial chic casino design provides visitors with one of the most unique environments in Las Vegas to wager in, complete with open ceilings and heavy structural elements juxtaposed with ornate fixtures and chandeliers. The property recently moved some things around on its casino floor to enhance the gaming experience for guests: table games have been relocated to a more intimate setting and new electronic table games and slot machines have been added to the main floor area. Downtown Grand is also a foodie’s dream since guests never have to walk far for great fare. The property is home to several palate-pleasing restaurants, including the 24-hour Stewart + Ogden eatery, The Commissary café and market and Pizza Rock, the latter of which offers an extensive menu of gourmet pies created by 11-time World Pizza Champion Tony Gemignani. Additionally, there’s arguably no better place to dine downtown than Triple George Grill, which is now considered a part of Downtown Grand. Known for its San Francisco Bay-style seafood and dry-aged steaks, the sophisticated restaurant

has consistently been wowing diners with its fabulous fare for more than a decade. While nothing disappoints, the Baked Goat Cheese Marinara appetizer is a must before dinner, and the Fish and Chips are easily some of the best you’ll have outside of London. Guests can go bar-hopping without ever leaving the property, too, as Downtown Grand features several striking bars. Be sure to try a cocktail at Art Bar, which has reproductions of famous art pieces on its ceiling, and don’t forget to visit Furnace Bar located in the heart of the casino. hile most of the country is under a blanket of snow, Greater Phoenix is still living up to its moniker as the Valley of the Sun with high temperatures in the mid-60s and 70s. Not surprisingly, outdoor activities are still the norm, with sunshine-warming hiking and biking trails at area parks. The spring-like weather makes Greater Phoenix a popular place to celebrate the holidays, too. Many area attractions go all out for the season, so guests can still celebrate the holidays without donning winter coats and gloves. Of course, for those who do miss “the white stuff,” there are a few places visitors can go to play in the snow—although some of it is manmade. That doesn’t make the experience any less memorable, though. In fact, the beautiful desert surroundings somehow make a snow day even more fun!
UPCOMING EVENTS NOVEMBER Eight’s Viewers Like You Festival takes place Nov. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. at Trilogy at Vistancia in Peoria. ho needs snow to enjoy the upcoming season? Just because you’re in the middle of the desert doesn’t mean you and your family can’t bask in the spirit of the holidays. Tis the season to enjoy three holiday traditions that are unique to the area and will let your heart be light.

PHOESTIVUS OPEN AIR MARKET
Looking for that one-of-a-kind holiday gift for someone special? You’ll probably find it at this annual open-air bazaar held by downtown’s Phoenix Public Market. More than 100 local vendors, selling everything from artisan food to Phoenix Ale Brewery’s Phoestivus Ale to Southwest-themed tchotchkes, converge to give shoppers an alternative to the mall. But there’s more than shopping. In keeping with the event’s name (borrowed, of course, from TV’s “Seinfeld”), expect a few Feats of Strength and the ever-popular Airing of Grievances. For more information, call 602.625.6736 or visit phxpublicmarket.com.
LAS NOCHES DE LAS LUMINARIAS All is calm, all is bright at one of greater Phoenix’s best holiday traditions. The beauty of the Sonoran Desert becomes illuminated by the warm glow of more than 8,000 flickering luminaria, which line the winding walkways of Phoenix’s Desert Botanical Garden each December. With a cup of warm cider in your hands, stroll the dimly lit paths to the musical accompaniment of a choir or carolers holding hand bells and enjoy a peaceful respite from the holiday madness. Included in your visit is a look at the breathtaking light sculptures of British artist Bruce Munro. Call 480.481.8188 for visit dbg.org for information.

Tamale artistry at The Tamale Store
HOLIDAY TAMALES AN EDIBLE SOUTHWEST TRADITION LIKE NONE OTHER By Laura Hahnefeld
I
n Phoenix, making (and, of course, eating) large batches of tamales is as much a family tradition as stringing up lights and decorating the tree. The process of making tamales from scratch is laborious, which means many turn to the pros. Here are three shops that can help provide a south-of-the-border touch to your family’s holidays. For best results, call ahead for orders and pickup times.
THE TAMALE STORE
Molly’s Tamales is a holiday tradition
MOLLY’S TAMALES
A favorite among Phoenicians for the better part of a decade, this West Valley tamale artisan claims to be making the Southwest delicacy since she was a little girl in Texas. For those who love tamales but are wary of the calorie and fat content of them, proprietor Estella “Molly” Sedlmeier boasts a no-lard, no-shortening cooking method that keeps the sodium and saturated fats at minimum while keeping the tamales moist. In addition to classic red and green, look for unconventional savory flavors such as sockeye salmon and sweet tamales filled with strawberries or pineapples and the Roxy Road (chocolate and marshmallow). Visit mollystamales.com or call 623.937.1060 for information.
LOS SOMBREROS CAFÉ AND CANTINA
Twelve Tamales of Christmas at Los Sombreros 72
PHOENIX/MESA
Every bit a holiday tradition as tamales themselves, this charming Scottsdale restaurant’s “Twelve Tamales of Christmas” is now in its 20th year, and it’s easy to see why it’s lasted so long. Chef/owner Azucena Tovar fills an attractive gift box with a dozen different tamales, ranging from traditional flavors such as red chile beef and green corn to more unusual selections, including chocolate. An excellent holiday gift idea, the “Twelve Tamales of Christmas” is filled with something for everyone. To order, call 480.994.1799, visit lossombreros. com or, better yet, stop in for a bite to eat and place your order at the restaurant.

As close to true tamale artists as they come, this family-run North Phoenix store (which also sells its wares at numerous farmers markets) is
the go-to for many in the area. For meat lovers, vegetarians and those eating gluten-free, this tiny shop delivers on both flavor and service, whether you need a small order or are buying in bulk. The Tamale Store’s fanciful creations include shredded chicken with a sweet and savory mole sauce, a Southwest chipotle with fresh corn and cilantro and special holiday-only tamales flavored with dried nuts and fruits. For more information, call 602.435.2604 or visit thetamalestore.com.

OKRA COOKHOUSE & COCKTAILS
Cullen Campbell, the chef behind the Valley’s much buzzed-about Crudo, brings authentic takes on classic Southern-style fare to his latest restaurant inside a stylishly restored Midcentury Modern space in the heart of uptown Phoenix. Blurring the lines between Southern and Italian cooking, Cullen serves up dishes like ham hock osso bucco, eggplant Parmesan with stewed okra, and fried chicken served three ways: buttermilkbrined, Tennessee Hot or topped with a rustic Umbrian meat sauce. An expansive collection of wines, craft beers and cocktails comes courtesy of co-owner/bartender Micah Olson, who backs Okra’s drink menu with a selection of some of the South’s finest small-batch bourbons.
foods like crisp zucchini cakes layered with crab, asparagus and a champagne-enriched Hollandaise and gargantuan double-cut ham chops with house-made applesauce, might have been what they wanted all along. Craft beers help to round out a drink menu that includes a top-notch selection of wine. Cork’s famous banana cream pie, banana-flavored cream heaped onto an Oreo cookie crust and capped with a bruleed marshmallow topping, thankfully, remains on the menu.

After snagging a James Beard Award nomination for Noca (now shuttered), restaurateur Eliot Wexler turned his penchant for exceptional ingredients and flawlessly executed dishes to gourmet sandwiches. At his sleek eatery in Tempe, hoagie hounds can delight in creations such as an upscale patty melt built around a well-seasoned Snake River Kobe beef patty, crackly skinned fried chicken breast, slaw, sweet pickles and Dijon mustard inside a pillowy Parker House roll. Also try the succulent Wagyu pastrami packed between pieces of griddled rye with a spicy slaw and a creamy Dijonaise sauce. 19TH HOLES IN MESA GOLF CLUBS OFFER DINING AND MUSIC AFTER PLAYING A ROUND By Kate Wallace

t’s a well-known fact that Arizona is a golfer’s paradise and certainly a bucketlist destination when it comes to the best places to play in the country. Perfect winter temperatures pair with immaculate, lush fairways, and it’s all capped off with a Sonoran Desert terrain that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else. In Mesa, both red and purple mountain majesties surround the city’s collection of golf courses creating breathtaking views and photo-worthy moments, but golfers in the know will agree that the destination has just as many activities off the course.
Enjoy a newly-expanded hangout after your game at The Patio at Las Sendas this winter 76
PHOENIX/MESA
At Longbow Golf Club, golfers are staying longer to enjoy the live music offered up at the outdoor restaurant, Longbow Grille. Located just around the bend after the 18th hole, guests here can enjoy a variety of menu standouts featuring Southwestern flavors. The outdoor fireplace faces the stunning Usery Mountain range helping the clubhouse earn the distinction of “Best 19th Hole in the East Valley” by the locals.
The Las Sendas Bull Dog margarita is by far a fan favorite at The Patio
Photo of golfers at sunset courtesy of Visit Mesa/A. Penner; The Patio at Las Sendas and Bull Dog margarita courtesy of Las Sendas Golf Club
Just north of the city, Las Sendas Golf Club has always offered golfers some of the best post-game delights at their trio of restaurants, Bogey’s Steakhouse, The Grille and The Patio at Las Sendas. The newest offering this winter is the expanded tri-tier patio featuring a more relaxed setting and an exclusive wine and tapas menu. The Patio at Las Sendas overlooks the 9th hole, and earlier this year was named one of the “Top 100 Al Fresco Restaurants” by OpenTable. com. Live music is a nightly constant and guests can plan ahead and book their tee time to coincide with their regular Chef’s Table and Winemaker events held throughout the year.
The popular Augusta Ranch Golf Club is a local favorite and widely-known as Arizona’s Best Short Course. After a round here, head inside to the brand-new clubhouse hangout, The Vue. Weekly happy hour specials tee off at 2:12 p.m. and continue to 6:12 p.m. The new restaurant also boasts a hand-crafted menu including pub boards, bruschetta and not to be outdone—smashies, a unique take on the Panini sandwich. The grilled smashie is a musttry with nearly a dozen options including one called “The Secret.” Arizona craft beers take center stage here, and golfers will appreciate the collection of special cocktails from the Red Arnie to the Arizona Mule, which mixes up tart lime with fresh apple cider, vodka and, of course, Ginger beer.

f you have ever visited Arizona in the past and have looked up to the skies, you have probably seen a hot air balloon or two slowly cruising above. Phoenix, known for its mild and comfortable temperatures during this time of year and the vast beauty of The Valley of the Sun, is a place to be experienced. Here in the Sonoran Desert, there are many types of plants and wildlife in this area which you’d have trouble finding anywhere else in the world. Combine these sights with the seemingly color-changing mountains during sunrise, and you’ve got a landscape that dreams are made of. During your next trip out to the Phoenix area, don’t miss out on taking in all that the beautiful desert has to offer by taking a hot air balloon trip with family and friends. Here are a few of the best companies to show you around the skies above Phoenix:
HOT AIR EXPEDITIONS
Upon arriving at the Sonoran Desert launch site, you and your group will be greeted by a Hot Air Expeditions who will give you a pre-flight briefing detailing how everything works and best practices. In about 30 minutes, once the balloon has inflated, it’s time to board the luxurious, oversized basket and take flight. During your trip, the pilot will cruise at different altitudes to give you the best views of the scenery below. At 400 feet, you’ll not only be able to see the landscape below, but will also be able to hear the wildlife, while at 5,000 feet, the vastness of the desert and Phoenix area is sure to take your breath away. Upon landing, you’ll be greeted with flutes of champagne and inducted into the Ballooning Society and awarded the Certificate d’Ascension En Machine Aerostatique. What a way to start your day. Visit hotairexpeditions. com for more info.
EQUINOX BALLOONS
After meeting in Goodyear, about 15 minutes west of downtown Phoenix, your crew at Equinox Balloons will determine the best launch site

Apex Balloons ride during sunset
based on weather conditions. The goal here is to ensure your ride is as pleasant as possible, securing launch sites that will provide the best views of the natural, untouched areas of the Phoenix area. Once at the launch site, your experienced and friendly pilot will have you and your group airborne and on your way to explore all that the beautiful area has to offer in one of the company’s sporty balloons. For more details, visit equinoxballoons.com.
APEX BALLOONS
Not only is Apex Balloons a provider of hot air balloon rides, but because they also manufacture balloons, you know you’ll be in good hands. As with most balloon ride companies in the Phoenix area, Apex offers sunrise flights, but they also offer sunset rides during the cooler months to guests who prefer flying this time of day. Rides last from 60 to 90 minutes for guests to explore the desert landscape of the Phoenix area. Visit phoenixballoonrides.com. PHOENIX/MESA

The “it’s a small world” Holiday attraction at Disneyland Park
THE MOST MAGICAL TIME OF THE YEAR DISNEYLAND RESORT SPRINKLES SOME EXTRA PIXIE DUST TO MAKE THIS HOLIDAY SEASON ITS MOST DAZZLING ONE YET By Heather Turk
T
here’s arguably no better place to spend the most wonderful time of the year with your family than at The Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland Resort!
This year’s celebration promises to be even more dazzling than ever thanks to the coinciding Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, which will continue throughout the holiday season in celebration of Disneyland Park’s 60th anniversary.
Guests can also experience some of their favorite Disneyland Park attractions in magical new ways thanks to recent enhancements aboard Peter Pan’s Flight and the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Peter Pan’s Flight now features a reimagined nursery scene and a variety of new special effects while the Matterhorn Bobsleds boasts a more ferociouslooking Abominable Snowman. Guests are sure to have chills! The Hatbox Ghost, which appeared in the Haunted Mansion for a short period around the time the attraction opened in 1969, will also continue to materialize in the Haunted Mansion Holiday attraction, joining Jack Skellington and friends in honor of the park’s anniversary celebration. One of Disneyland Park’s coolest new additions, the vibrant ghost appears just before guests descend into the cemetery. Not to forget Star Wars fans, Disneyland Park’s popular attraction Star Tours – The Adventures Continue will be adding a new adventure later this year as well, featuring locations and characters from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Additionally, an all-new interactive experience entitled Star Wars Launch Bay will open in Tomorrowland, taking guests into the highly anticipated blockbuster with special exhibits and peeks behind the scenes.

Every year from mid-November to early January, the popular Southern California attraction becomes even more magical thanks to themed entertainment, sparkling decorations and delicious holiday treats found throughout the resort. Guests can make magical memories at Disneyland Park while aboard the special seasonal transformations of the “it’s a small world” Holiday and The Nightmare Before Christmas Haunted Mansion Holiday attractions, or cruise on over to Disney California Adventure Park where Buena Vista Street is decked out in holiday trimmings and Cars Land has a whimsical display of homespun holiday décor.
Guests can enjoy the new Paint the Night parade at Disneyland Park, which is a perfect fit for the festive occasion with more than 1.5 million LED lights that flash and glow. The illuminating parade features plenty of beloved Disney and Disney•Pixar characters, including Anna and Elsa from Frozen, Lightning McQueen, Tinker Bell and, of course, Mickey Mouse.

LLEGIANT HAS ALL THE BEST DEALS FOR ALL THINGS NEW IN LAS VEGAS
Las Vegas is one of those cities that is in a class all of its own. There really isn’t anywhere else that can offer the 24/7 entertainment, gaming, dining and resort amenities that this town does while reinventing itself almost constantly. Each time you visit the Las Vegas, either on the Strip or Downtown, there is always something new and exciting that you either weren’t aware of or didn’t exist the last time you visited. Allegiant, along with its partners, have all the exclusive deals that will make sure you get to experience all these new things at the best possible prices. Just think about the last time you visited Las Vegas. Was The Cosmopolitan around? One of the newest hotels on the Strip, “The Cosmo” is one of the most luxurious properties to indulge in with its 100,000-square-foot casino, vast collection of restaurants, multiple nightclubs and bars, world-class spa and three distinct pools. The Cromwell is another example of how the Strip has reinvented itself, taking over a previous hotel and transforming into a one-of-a-kind resort. Another transformation is the SLS Las Vegas with over 1,600 guest rooms and a style all of its own. SLS Las Vegas is a large part of Las Vegas’ revitalization in the north end of the Strip which has seen dramatic changes in just the past few years. Keep visiting, and the new oriental-themed Lucky Dragon will be another can’t miss location on the north end of the Strip. 86

ALLEGIANT TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 52 MILE RUN...IN HAWAII By Trent Porter, VP Financial Planning & Analysis
T
he two magic words that seem to make most things easier to do: In Hawaii. Spend two weeks with my in-laws … in Hawaii. Eat sushi for the first time … in Hawaii. Squeeze into my European bathing suit … in Hawaii. Run 52 miles on a winding road, often with only one lane of traffic … in Hawaii. On Sept. 12, our Super 80s Allegiant Team completed the 52-mile Hana Relay in 7 hours and 39 minutes, an improvement of about 5 percent over their 2013 performance. The website for the race describes the Hana Relay as “An incredible fifty-two mile journey along 617 curves and over 56 bridges through the most breathtaking scenery in all of Maui.” Allegiant sponsored the six Team Members who made up the Super 80s team: Taylor Speegle (Manager of Charter Planning), Jamie Sidway (Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis), Hayden Barton (Financial Analyst), Trent Porter (VP of Financial Planning), Asad Shaikh (Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis) and Riley Cooney (Financial Analyst). On race day, each runner ran between 7.5 and 9.5 grueling miles divided into three legs. One leg of the race
included an incline gain of close to 800 feet in elevation over 2 miles. Overall, hundreds of miles were logged by the Super 80s in training and preparation for the relay. Jamie Sidway logged over 25,000 steps the day of the race. And Riley Cooney and Taylor Speegle were able to maintain sub-8 minute per mile paces throughout the race and on some decent inclines. “In Hawaii” proved to be motivation enough for a couple of the runners to go from not running at all to running over three or four miles at a time. Asad Shaikh never understood the benefits of running, and found that the training gave him more energy for the day and got him excited to run more. Asad ran his entire 3rd leg of the race without walking and ended on a runner’s high, knowing he had accomplished something he didn’t think was possible a few months before. Asad probably wouldn’t have put in the training effort if it weren’t for those words … ”in Hawaii.” Whatever your wellness goals might be, try adding “in Hawaii” to the end of the sentence and watch your results take off!

ALLEGIANT CELEBRATES MAKE-A-WISH® MILESTONE ALLEGIANT’S 300TH MAKE-A-WISH FLIGHT JETS TO HONOLULU
O
n July 6, 2015, Make-A-Wish® wish kid Serena, age 17, and her family traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii for her wish to learn how to surf! Serena was Allegiant’s 300th wish kid that we’ve flown since our relationship with Make-A-Wish began in 2012. In 2014 alone, more than 150 wish kids and their families were flown by Allegiant to their wish destination!
254,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; more than 14,200 wishes in 2014 alone. Visit Make-A-Wish at wish.org to learn more. To learn how you can help make travel wishes come true, visit allegiant.com/maw. Thank you, Serena, for allowing Allegiant to be a part of your wish experience!
The family was greeted at the McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas for a special wish sendoff including large balloons that spelled out SURF’S UP SERENA. Serena’s wish to travel to Hawaii to learn how to surf was coming true! She and her family also spent the week in Honolulu snorkeling and enjoying the white sand beaches of Hawaii. Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish come true has a positive impact on the health of the children. Kids say that wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Headquartered in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world’s leading children’s charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 27,000 volunteers, Make-AWish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 37 minutes. It has granted more than

Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following: • Location of the nearest emergency exit • Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed • Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency SEAT BELTS Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards. CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT” from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt. SMOKING Smoking, the use of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and other similar smoking devices are not permitted on any Allegiant flight. Federal law imposes fines of $1,000 for smoking and up to $2,000 for any attempt to disable an aircraft smoke detector. 100
