HAVE A BALL AT ‘ROD STEWART: THE HITS’

One of the Strip’s hottest tickets, “Rod Stewart: The Hits” returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace this June. Now in its eighth year, the rockin’ Las Vegas residency features Sir Rod Stewart performing a selection of his greatest hits backed by a 13-piece band. Given the music legend’s extensive catalog, fans never know which songs he’s going to perform, making each limited engagement truly something special. You might even get a special keepsake from the production, as Stewart kicks signed soccer balls out into the crowd each night toward the end of the show. Keep your eyes peeled and your hands up high! AWESOME NEW ACCOMMODATIONS

LAS VEGAS ROOM RENOVATIONS WORTH CHECKING IN TO By H. Wadowski

I

n a city known for reinvention, it should come as no surprise that several Las Vegas resorts have recently undergone luxurious room renovations to provide guests with allnew accommodations at some of their favorite hotels. In fact, one of the Strip’s most iconic resorts, Caesars Palace, has redone 90 percent of its guest rooms over the past six years. Investing nearly $1 billion in room transformations, it has redesigned the guestrooms in its Octavius, Julius and Augustus towers and just recently completed a $100 million renovation of its largest tower, the Palace Tower. Guests can now check in to 1,181 stylishly designed guest rooms and suites in the Palace Tower with cool grey tones accented by royal blue and champagne gold, and amenities that range from pillow-top king and queen beds to stone bathrooms. For those who really want to feel like royalty, 10 lavish new villas on the 29th floor feature bespoke furnishings, a curated art program and exquisite finishes like 24-karat gold-plated plumbing fixtures in the master bathrooms and powder rooms. caesarspalace.com Just across the street, another legendary resort, Flamingo Las Vegas, recently completed a $90 million renovation of 1,270 of its guestrooms. Paying homage to the historic property’s past while also giving the rooms a fresh and modern look, the newly renovated rooms feature vibrant hues of 8

gold and bright pops of flamingo pink with accents that celebrate the resort’s rich history as the centerpiece of the Las Vegas Strip. flamingolasvegas.com Flamingo Las Vegas and Caesars Palace sister resorts, Harrah’s Las Vegas and Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, recently underwent extensive room renovations as well, including 1,622 modern new guestrooms and suites in Harrah’s Valley Tower. Consisting of bold yet sophisticated décor with warm tones of gray and purple accents, the Valley Tower guest rooms now feature such highlights as rain showers and oversized vanities with backlit mirrors, while its suites feature ceramic dark plank tile. caesars.com/harrahs-las-vegas Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, meanwhile, renovated all 2,496 of its guestrooms and suites. The vibrant new rooms feature a sleek, white color palette and unexpected décor, including suspended sofas and round beds. Bold artwork throughout the rooms and corridors were inspired by the modern rock star guest, showcasing hip and edgy imagery capturing the essence of Las Vegas nightlife. planethollywoodresort.com One of the Strip’s most eye-catching resorts has also redesigned more than 1,700 hotel rooms in its East and West towers. Dominant colors within the space, including hazy amethyst, deep smoky green, charcoal and fawn, are drawn from the beauty of the desert, while multi-functional furnishings, like one piece that combines a wardrobe, storage space, work desk and media center, offer a spacious floorplan. luxor.com With Monte Carlo Resort & Casino’s recent transition to Park MGM during the first half of 2018, guests will find select Park MGM rooms available for reservation. Park King and Park Queen accommodations, which span 400 square feet, feature flourishes of color in a signature primary palette of red or green— hues inspired by the stunning cacti blooms and succulents found in the surrounding Nevada desert. Each guest room also features an expansive picture window with built-in settee and smart amenities like illuminated mirrors with embedded power portals in both the bathroom and living space to accommodate multiple guests who are getting ready at the same time. parkmgm.com Vegas visitors will find newly renovated rooms off Strip, too. Ellis Island Hotel, Casino & Brewery just completed a multimillion-dollar renovation that includes each of the property’s 289 guestrooms and 12 suites. Just like on the TV show, the chefs and cooks at Hell’s Kitchen wear red and blue uniforms

ONE SIZZLING DINING EXPERIENCE GORDON RAMSAY OPENS WORLD’S FIRST HELL’S KITCHEN RESTAURANT IN SIN CITY By Heather Turk

P

roving you can never have too much of a good thing, Gordon Ramsay’s fifth Las Vegas restaurant, Hell’s Kitchen, has quickly become the Strip’s hottest dining spot since opening its doors in January.

Photo of group of chefs courtesy of Caesars Palace; Michelle Tribble and Gordon Ramsay by Erik Kabik Photo Group

Located Stripside in front of Caesars Palace, Ramsay’s latest culinary venture transports guests to the set of his globally-popular FOX television show. Helmed by “Hell’s Kitchen” Season 17 winner Michelle Tribble, the restaurant serves up an immersive dining experience unlike any other in Las Vegas. “There aren’t many restaurants based on hit TV shows,” Tribble said. “Fans can watch ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ on TV and see the Beef Wellington being made, then come here and actually eat it. It’s really something special.” Not only does the restaurant offer several signature dishes from the show, like Ramsay’s succulent Beef Wellington, Lobster Risotto and Pan-Seared

Scallops, but it also resembles the “Hell’s Kitchen” TV set. The show’s iconic bronze HK sign, which was set on fire for the restaurant’s grand opening, is located by the entrance, and chef Ramsay—or at least a life-size video screen of him—greets guests when they walk inside. There’s even the famous red-and-blue show kitchen, although Tribble was quick to point out one major difference between the one in the restaurant and the one seen on TV. “On the TV show there are two kitchens since there are two teams competing against each other,” Tribble noted. “Here there’s just one kitchen, as we’re all working together to feed our guests.” Fans of the hit cooking competition will often see Tribble in the kitchen making sure each dish is prepared to Ramsay’s high standards. While Tribble said her favorite dish is the Crispy Skin Salmon, as it reminds her of working at the fish station on the TV show, two other items she highly recommends are the impressive HK Grand Shellfish Tower and the Pineapple Carpaccio for dessert. Both dishes feature unique elements guests might expect from a restaurant with the word “Hell” in its name, like pitchforks coming out of the shellfish tower and dry ice to make the Pineapple Carpaccio smoky. “This restaurant is definitely more of an experience [than Ramsay’s other Las Vegas restaurants],” Tribble said. “People have certain expectations with the TV show tie-in. While the aesthetics are amazing and the drinks are delicious, I’m a chef so the food always comes first.”

as Vegas may be the Entertainment Capital of the World, but not every show that opens in town is lucky enough to find an audience. With so much to see and do, it takes a truly stellar production to generate enough word of mouth to keep people interested in seeing it year after year. Las Vegas’ longest-running scripted musical, this hilarious celebration of women and “The Change” just celebrated three years at Harrah’s Las Vegas and 13 years of entertaining audiences on the Strip. Featuring parodies of classic songs from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s, the toe-tapping production follows four women at a lingerie sale who have little in common other than memory loss, hot flashes and night sweats. Already one of Las Vegas’ hottest tickets, the show has been hotter than ever recently thanks to “Laverne & Shirley” star Cindy Williams, who will return for yet another guest starring run on May 7. menopausethemusical.com

Sir Rod Stewart kicks off his eighth year of playing The Colosseum this June

A VEGAS FAVORITE RETURNS ‘ROD STEWART: THE HITS’ ENTERS ITS EIGHTH YEAR AT THE COLOSSEUM

By Heather Turk

T

he Colosseum at Caesars Palace may be the house that Céline Dion built, but ever since 2011, it has been Sir Rod Stewart’s home away from home, too. Returning this June for seven can’t-miss performances, Stewart’s acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Rod Stewart: The Hits,” continues to be one of the Strip’s best productions. A show that lives up to its name, the rockin’ residency features the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee performing some of the many hit singles he’s had over his storied, fivedecade long career. Given the music legend’s extensive catalog—Stewart is one of the music industry’s few stars to have chart-topping albums throughout every decade of his

career—the set list often changes each time Stewart is in Las Vegas, as he mixes in some of his newer hits with his timeless classics. During one of his shows in 2017, Stewart kicked off the evening with “Having a Party,” truly setting the mood for the lively concert experience to come. What followed was 90 minutes of Stewart at his raspy-voiced best, performing more than 15 hit songs that often had the audience singing along. While he surprisingly didn’t do “Hot Legs” during that particular performance, ticket holders didn’t mind given the many fan favorites he did perform: “Some Guys Have All the Luck,” “Tonight’s the Night (Gonna Be Alright),” “Young Turks,” “Rhythm of My Heart,” “Forever Young,” “Downtown Train,” “Every Picture Tells a Story,” “Reason to Believe,” “The Killing of Georgie,” “Have I Told You Lately,” “Maggie May,” “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?”—the hits just kept on coming, one after another. Regardless of which songs Stewart sings during the hit-filled production, it’s easy to see why he is one of the most successful acts in music history, having sold more than 200 million records worldwide. Not only are his songs catchy, but the passionate performer truly gives it his all whenever he’s onstage. In addition to having the energy of an artist half his age, Stewart’s voice is still just as strong as it’s ever been. Even though he is accompanied onstage

by a 13-piece band with three very talented backup singers, Stewart’s pitch-perfect vocals come through loud and clear, and are never once drowned out during the show. Audiences can tell Stewart is still having a blast onstage, too. Whether he is showing off his latest wardrobe choice or kicking signed soccer balls out into the audience just before the show’s finale, it is easy to see that Stewart hasn’t grown tired of performing for a live audience. The rock icon also lets fans in on his personal life during his Las Vegas residency, showing home videos and private pictures on The Colosseum’s massive video screen. Occasionally, the proud papa even shares the stage with his daughter Ruby, who has been known to surprise audiences from time to time by singing “Forever Young” with her dad. Always the gentleman, Stewart graciously shares the stage with his band and backup singers as well, giving each performer a chance to steal the spotlight during his show. Nevertheless, there’s no question as to who the star of the show is, as Stewart captivates audiences with his commanding stage

presence from the very first moment he steps onto The Colosseum’s stage. While it’s true Sir Rod Stewart will once again be touring North America with Cyndi Lauper later this summer (the two music icons kick off their 2018 summer tour on June 25 at Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles), that doesn’t mean fans shouldn’t still see him in Las Vegas while they can. “Rod Stewart: The Hits” has entertained more than half a million fans over 135 performances for a reason: it is a toe-tapping joy from start to finish. It’s not often fans can see a music legend in such an intimate setting, and the sound and sightlines in The Colosseum are truly tough to beat. “Rod Stewart: The Hits” returns to The Colosseum stage June 12, 15, 16, 19, 22, 29 and 30; all performances start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from just $49 to $250, plus applicable taxes and fees. As always, tickets tend to sell fast, so be sure to reserve your seats as soon as possible. After all, there’s no better place to see music royalty than the Entertainment Capital of the World! Ricky Martin performing a Vegas-inspired number in “ALL IN”

A TRUE TRIPLE THREAT

inspired us through the decades, people like Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, but it was always important to do so with class and respect.”

Featuring more than 20 of the international superstar’s greatest hits, Ricky Martin’s hit Las Vegas residency “ALL IN” is an electrifying experience from start to finish. The Puerto Rican singer sets the energetic atmosphere right from the start of the show with his hit single “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” before performing a nonstop mix of songs from both his English and Spanish catalogs.

One of Martin’s favorite moments in the show is actually when he performs Sinatra’s “Luck Be a Lady,” but he was quick to add that he also loves the production’s “Carnival-like atmosphere” during “The Cup of Life” finale. The entire show, however, is unlike anything else staged on the Strip, with fans from around the world celebrating Martin’s music as though they were in Rio de Janeiro.

ne of the Strip’s best shows is returning to the Park Theater at Park MGM (formerly Monte Carlo Resort and Casino) for six can’t-miss performances.

“I wanted to be myself,” Martin told Sunseeker. “I’ve been working since I was 12 years old, so I wanted the show to sort of travel through my career. Based on the reaction of the crowds, I think we accomplished that.” Audiences will not only hear Martin sing his recent hits during the show, including his latest single, “Fiebre,” but also such classics as “Nobody Wants to Be Lonely” and “She Bangs.” Additionally, there’s a portion of the production that pays tribute to some of the iconic performers who’ve previously performed extended engagements in Las Vegas. “The first thing I did [after getting the Vegas residency] was I went back and researched everyone who had residencies in Las Vegas beforehand,” Martin said. “I wanted to play a bit with the people who 32

“I think my show has this liberty you won’t find at other shows in Las Vegas,” Martin said. “For an hour and 30 minutes, you can forget all your issues and just be who you are. No one will judge you.” While one of the things Martin enjoys the most about performing in Las Vegas is that the crowd is constantly made up of people from different parts of the world (“It’s a very international crowd,” he said. “I look out into the audience and I see people holding up flags from all over: Brazil, Germany, Italy...everywhere.”), Martin knows that not all of his fans can make the trip out to Las Vegas to see “ALL IN.” That’s why he’s talking about doing an international tour soon, though he’s hopeful he’ll be able to return to Park Theater for another run of performances at least one more time. “If we come back, though, we’ll have to

add more songs,” said Martin, who is working on new music. “We’ll have to do a 2-hour show instead of an hour and 30 minutes.” While “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” star said he’s busy prioritizing opportunities that come his way for acting, fans don’t have to worry about him stepping away from music anytime soon. “Music will always be an important part of my life,” the talented performer said. “The immediate reaction I get when I’m onstage, that passionate feedback is my vice.”

“ALL IN” runs May 23, 26, 27 and 30 and June 2 and 3 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at just $59.50, plus taxes and fees, with $1 of every ticket sold going to the Ricky Martin Foundation to denounce human trafficking. For more information, visit parktheaterlv.com.

ONE AWE-INSPIRING ANNUAL EVENT BLUE MAN GROUP’S SENSORY-FRIENDLY SHOW FOR KIDS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS By Heather Turk

lue Man Group’s Las Vegas production has long been known for its rock concertlike atmosphere, complete with inventive instruments and hilarious audience interactions. However, since 2015, one afternoon each year the production turns things down a notch, putting on a special performance so that children with autism spectrum disorders can experience the euphoric show live. Happening this year on June 10 at 4 p.m., Blue Man Group’s annual sensory-friendly performance features reduced sound and lighting levels at various moments during the show and a more subdued approach to audience interactions. “We’re more cautious when we move around,” said Blue Man Group’s Las Vegas captain, Alain Rochefort. “When we interact with someone, we move in more slowly and if they don’t like us, we move away.”

Rochefort said that the sensory-friendly performance is the most rewarding show he gets to be a part of, as the children in the audience can really relate to the Blue Man characters.

digest all the craziness” until they’re ready to go back into the theater. Although the show is intended for those with autism and their families to enjoy, tickets are available to the public, with proceeds benefiting Las Vegas’ Grant a Gift Autism Foundation. To date, the event has raised approximately $35,000. “There have been people who just happened to purchase tickets for that performance and you can tell they realize something special is happening in the theater that they weren’t expecting,” Rochefort said. “You can’t help but feel extremely moved when you see these kids having so much fun. Plus, you’re benefiting a good cause.” Blue Man Group performs at Luxor Hotel and Casino nightly at 7 and 9:30 p.m. (dark May 2). Allegiant passengers receive special deals when they purchase their tickets onboard. Ask your flight attendant for details, and for more on Blue Man Group’s sensory-friendly performance, visit blueman.com/autismspeaks.

“Since the characters are nonverbal, people with autism really respond to that,” Rochefort stated. “A lot of parents are surprised by just how much their kids enjoy the show. They’re amazed by how long they stay focused watching it. It’s just so visual, though, and the music is sort of tribal and soothing—kids really connect with the elements.” If at any point during the show children do get overwhelmed by the production, Rochefort noted that there are bean bag chairs in the lobby where kids can go to “calm down and

TAKE A PEER AT PIER 39 BAYSIDE FUN IN SAN FRANCISCO By Sean Davies

V

isiting San Francisco without a clear plan can be intimidating. The city is packed full of attractions and activities at every end, and making the most out of your trip could mean a lot of transportation. Luckily, one location manages to combine the best of the city, with restaurants and interactive entertainment packed into a historic location with a spectacular view.

PIER 39, located on The Embarcadero near Powell and Beach Street, is a family’s best bet for activities that will engage all age groups. Kids will love donning a pair of gloves and exploring Magowan’s Infinite Mirror Maze, a hall of mirrors with a hip, updated soundtrack and neon color palette. The 7D Experience, where visitors can navigate a Laser Maze straight out of a James Bond film or battle road pirates in a 3D dystopian future “darkride”, is also sure to wow even the most cynical of teenagers. Of course, there’s always the natural beauty of marine life on display in the Aquarium of the Bay, for those who find pleasure in the splendor of nature. Dining on the PIER is always a special occasion, especially for seafood fans. While most restaurants on the PIER will have fish options, be sure to stop by somewhere with fish in the name, like Fog Harbour Fish House, Crab House or Pier Market Seafood Restaurant for something truly fresh and fishy. Picky eaters will delight knowing that other eateries are always available, with classic comforts like The Hard Rock Cafe, Luigi’s Pizzeria and Players Sports Grill and Arcade for those who just aren’t ready to stop the fun for some food.

ooking for something to eat but don’t want to get out of the car? In Phoenix, you don’t have to settle for a ho-hum burger or taco from a national chain. A number of exceptional Valley restaurants operate drive-thru windows, where you can pick-up entrées made from local ingredients to eat on the road or bring home.

LUCI’S AT THE ORCHARD

Formerly a citrus farm, The Orchard has three places to grab a bite to eat: Pomelo, a sit-down pizzeria; Splurge, an ice cream and candy shop; and Luci’s, a café and coffee shop with a drive-thru. Call ahead to order all-day breakfast items like omelets, breakfast burritos, flapjacks, smoothies, fresh-squeezed juices and coffee drinks. For lunch, opt for a burger, salad or wrap.

GILBERT’S HERITAGE DISTRICT ONE OF THE HOTTEST DESTINATIONS IN PHOENIX By Teresa Bitler

O

nce the center of a quiet agriculture community, downtown Gilbert’s Heritage District has exploded in recent years with the addition of popular local restaurants, breweries and entertainment venues. Today, it’s the East Valley’s go-to when planning a night out.

CRAFT BEER

OLD FAVORITES

O.H.S.O. Brewery just opened its newest outpost in April. In addition to Orange Pedal, Popcycle Blonde and O.H.S.O Hoppy, the dog-friendly brewery mixes cocktails showcasing its own line of spirits. ohsobrewery.com

A few restaurants made a name for themselves before the boom, including Joe’s Real BBQ. The 20-year-old Valley favorite serves meats smoked over pecan wood in Oyler pits along with sides made from family recipes and homebrewed root beer. joesrealbbq.com Liberty Market is also a Gilbert staple. Named after the grocery store that originally occupied the space, it specializes in wood-fired pizzas, chef-prepared entrées, espresso drinks and from-scratch pastries. libertymarket.com For breakfast, head to The Farmhouse for house-baked cinnamon rolls, omelets, pancakes and biscuits. farmhouseofgilbert.com

NEW RESTAURANTS

It’s hard to keep up with all of the new restaurants opening in the Heritage District. Several local favorites now have establishments here including Clever Koi, Barrio Queen, Joyride Taco House, Zinburger, Postino Winecafe, LoLo’s Chicken & Waffles and Pomo Pizzeria.

Recently opened in March, The Brass Tap features up to 60 rotating craft beers on tap, ranging from industry stalwarts like New Belgium Fat Tire and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale to local offerings like Four Peaks Kilt Lifter and Huss Scottsdale Blonde. brasstapbeerbar.com

ENTERTAINMENT

Don’t call it a night after dinner. On Friday and Saturday evenings, you can listen to live music at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row. Beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, learn to dance to high energy country music. The American gastropub also has happy hour specials and VIP bottle service. dierkswhiskeyrow.com Or, catch a family-friendly show like “Meet Me in St. Louis” or “A Christmas Carol” at Hale Centre Theatre. The community theater’s 375 seats ring the stage, giving everyone a great view. haletheatrearizona.com

There are also new concepts like Grubstak, where you can add toppings to regular or sweet potato waffle fries (or salad) for a customizable meal. grubstak.com Nico Heirloom Kitchen offers an upscale dining option featuring hand-rolled pastas, fresh seafood and seasonal dishes along with an impressive wine list. nicoaz.com The patio at Joyride Taco House RECREATION

SCENIC SETTING THE FARM AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN By Amy Young

N

estled in mountainous south Phoenix is the Farm at South Mountain, which lives up to its name as a place where plump and colorful vegetables are born, and clucky chickens lay their eggs. The spacious farm is also known for being one of the loveliest spots in the Valley; a prime destination for dining, a simple stroll, or a wedding laden with rustic charm. As you enter the Farm, you’re immediately transported from the more sparse, minimal desert landscape to a sprawling green landscape, full of lush trees, including the pecan trees that were planted in the area in the early 1900’s. From the plant life, the aged wood, and the foods being cooked on site, the air is full of engaging smells. If you’re there to dine, waiting might be hard.

Aromatherapy to enjoy a massage or get an insightful reading. There are artists studios at the Farm, too, where you might see some original work being created or exhibited. There are also events and classes that happen at the Farm monthly. You can also learn how to do things like paint with watercolors, or make aromatherapy gifts for the holidays. Sometimes the events are just about kicking back, like when there’s a movie screening beneath the stars. No matter how you choose to enjoy this glorious refuge, you will definitely want to return. thefarmatsouthmountain.com

Morning Glory Café is a restaurant with outdoor seating where you can people-watch and enjoy the weather as you load up on breakfast and brunch items from flaky pastries to dishes like the smoked trout omelet, or the popular Farm Monte Cristo which finds brioche toast covered in ham, eggs, gruyere cheese, and sticky syrup.

In addition to eating, you can also get some shopping done. If you’re looking for items for the home, garden, and kitchen, Botanica has what you’re after. You can make an appointment to visit Mi Tierra Healing Arts & 64

THANK YOU ALLEGIANT

I have flown only once with you all, and it was one of the best flights I have ever been on. Everyone was very nice on both flights. I was so impressed, I even got your credit card. I have told all of my friends about Allegiant, and several of them flew to Tampa and Orlando and were also very happy with their experience.

– Wade W, Virginia

Our flight was delayed because of de-icing when I flew to Punta Gorda. The flight attendants - especially Jen and Rachel - were awesome. They made us all feel like we were part of a community and made sure everyone was as comfortable as possible. On the return flight, I had the pleasure of seeing Jen again as one of the flight attendants. You are lucky to have her as an employeeshe does an outstanding job.

- Mary G, Iowa

I wanted to thank the flight attendants, Jillian and Deborah, who were extremely pleasant and helpful with a less than happy 16-month-old child that flew with my wife and me. I was so happy with the help and empathy they expressed, and I want to be sure they are recognized for going above and beyond to ensure a comfortable trip for us all.

– Michael C, Florida

SPOTLIGHT

Carla and her husband at the Grand Canyon

ALLEGIANT TEAM MEMBER SPOTLIGHT CARLA LUTHER, FLIGHT ATTENDANT, MESA, AZ By Kerry McGee, Staff Writer, Editor

When Carla’s not working up in the air, you can find her enjoying the sunshine on different hiking trails or flying to and from her hometown in Michigan. Carla took a few minutes out of her day to chat with us about why she loves working as an Allegiant flight attendant and shared her most memorable moment with her favorite traveler.

chances to be a flight attendant for my friends and family - those moments are always special. I get choked up just thinking about this, but I’ll never forget the first time I was able to work the flight my mom was on. She sent me to traveling school back in the 80s, so I feel like her dream for me came full circle. She kept telling me how proud she was!

How long have you worked as a flight attendant out of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport? Four years and counting! Prior to this, I worked in both sales and marketing.

Do you have any great tips for people visiting the Phoenix area? Of course, I always tell people that visiting the Grand Canyon is a must! Pictures just don’t do it justice. In fact, it’s so amazing that I actually got married there! Sedona is about an hour and a half away and well worth the drive. My favorite restaurant, Oaxaco, has a beautiful patio overlooking the red rocks with great Mexican cuisine.

Photos by Carla Luther

What gets you excited to go to work? The people and the places, for sure. I’m so lucky that I’ve never had a day in the last four years where I woke up dreading to go to work. From interacting with different passengers to traveling to new places, everyday feels like an adventure! Have you been able to take advantage of our amazing flight benefits? Yes! I have a few favorites. I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan, and I’m so fortunate to be able to fly there frequently to see my mom. My mom is able to use my benefits as well and comes to see us often. She’s a widow, so any extra time we get with her is really important for all of us. My husband’s family lives in St. Petersburg, Florida, so we take trips there as well. It’s also been a treat to be able to take my daughter with me to new places – all thanks to Allegiant! Do you have any special memories with our travelers you’d like to share? Flying to and from Michigan, I’ve had several

My husband is a geologist, so we both have a passion for hiking. If you’re looking for a great hike, Devils Bridge in Sedona is a must. In Phoenix, we like to hike the trails at South Mountain or find out which trail exactly she likes to hike. Make sure to wear sunscreen and drink lots of water, even when you don’t feel thirsty!

MAKE-A-WISH ®

Cuatro riding through the airport in style

ALLEGIANT CELEBRATES A MILESTONE THROUGH ITS PARTNERSHIP WITH MAKE-A-WISH® By Christoper Lewis

F

or Allegiant, it was its 1,000th. For one smiling four-year-old from Texas, it was his first ever. Allegiant flew its 1,000th Wish Kid in March as a Make-A-Wish travel partner when Nicolas “Cuatro” Dones IV flew from McAllen, Texas to Las Vegas to fulfill a life-long dream. Cuatro was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014 when he was just one year old. After finishing his treatment in December, he knew exactly how he wanted to celebrate: to see Monster Jam World Finals XIX. Cuatro began the journey in Texas with a special send-off highlighted by a monster truckthemed cake and treats donated by his favorite restaurant, Chick-fil-A. Afterward, he landed in Las Vegas to the cheers of Allegiant employees after riding through the airport in style on a battery-powered replica of his favorite monster truck, Grave Digger.

“At Allegiant, we pride ourselves on making

travel more accessible to everyone, so the partnership with Make-A-Wish is a perfect fit with our mission,” said John Redmond, president of Allegiant. “Helping fulfill wishes that bring joy and hope to children facing critical illnesses has been a source of great pride for Allegiant team members and the company as a whole, and we couldn’t be more pleased to reach this special milestone. We look forward to making many more wishes take flight in years to come.” Allegiant marked the occasion by announcing all proceeds from Cuatro’s flight would be donated to Make-A-Wish. “Nearly 80 percent of wish requests involve travel,” said David Williams, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish. “Allegiant plays an important role as a travel partner, because of their generosity in providing free travel, and also because they serve so many smaller cities with nonstop flights. We are grateful for their commitment to helping make travel wishes possible for wish kids across the U.S.” Allegiant also donates $1 per sale of each “Wingz Kids Snack Pack” aboard its flights directly to Make-A-Wish®. Additionally, Allegiant in 2017 welcomed Make-AWish Southern Nevada to its corporate headquarters campus in Las Vegas, sponsoring a $1.5 million renovation of space, and a $1 per year lease.

Primrose – A garden café inspired by a country home

PARK MGM THE NEWEST HOT SPOT IN LAS VEGAS By Auriyon Butler

O

ut with the old and in with new. The latest hotel to spring up on the Las Vegas Strip is actually a redo and rebrand of the Monte Carlo, which originally opened in 1996. After a $500 million renovation, it’s now the Park MGM. With its close proximity to T-Mobile Arena and the Park Theater, as well as an array of new restaurants and updated rooms, the Park MGM should be a hotel on top of everyone’s list. Below are some of the highlights of this exquisite property.

PARK MGM GUEST ROOMS

MGM partnered with the Sydell Group, known for creating trendsetting lifestyle hotels across the country, to create rooms with a vibe of a cozy upscale apartment. The rooms feature a spacious layout with green or red color schemes throughout, and its accented walls display artwork from mixed-media pictures, natural landscapes and postcards. Some of the Park King or Queen rooms overlook T-Mobile arena and The Strip.

of Sea Bass, seasoned with artichokes, spring onions and beech mushrooms, or the delicious Ratatouille. While you relax in the garden, you can enjoy the restaurant’s collection of vintage books found in the drawing room.

COMING SOON

Two anticipated dining options will open later this year. Roy Choi opens his first full-service concept outside of Los Angeles with a yet-to-be-named establishment that is inspired by his Koreatown roots. Eataly, expected to open in fall 2018, will bring a vibrant market with cafes, to-go counters, pizza and Italian-themed bakeries.

The acclaimed Chicago classic is a stylish departure from the traditional steakhouse with a casual French flair, eloquent jazz, rich wood paneling and vintage art throughout. But be sure to save room for scrumptious deserts like their Hot Fudge Sundae Royale, Lemon Meringue Pie or Carrot Cake.
