A t r ue l a s veg a s legend

COVER “Legends in Concert” may be Las Vegas’ longest-running show, but the classic production has undergone a lot of exciting changes in recent months. In February, the show joined forces with another local legend, Tropicana Las Vegas, and can now be seen in the resort’s newly renamed showroom, the Legends in Concert Theater. The hit production even added a segment that pays tribute to the Las Vegas showgirl, as its new venue used to be the home of the legendary “Folies Bergere.” One thing that hasn’t changed about the show is that audiences are still treated to performances by some of the country’s top tribute artists. The show’s current lineup includes pitchperfect portrayals of Elvis Presley, Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston and Frank Sinatra, each backed by a live band. legendsinconcert.com

There’s no better place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than Las Vegas. The city is home to several vibrant restaurants known for their south-of-theborder fare, making it easy to enjoy some flavorful Mexican cuisine during the annual fiesta. DIABLO’S CANTINA Previously located at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, this Mexican eatery moved to Luxor Hotel and Casino late last year and brought even more flavor along with it. The menu is the best it has ever been, offering an array of mouthwatering items like the filet mignon and chorizo Alambre Tacos topped with poblano peppers, cilantro, onion and an OMG (Oaxaca, Manchego and Gouda) cheese blend for lunch and dinner. The best way to experience a taste of what the restaurant has to offer is to start your meal with one of its sampler dishes, like Diablo’s Salsa Tasting trio which includes its Reaper Salsa made from the world’s hottest pepper. Just remember to save some room for dessert — the Churro Funnel Cake is arguably the best churro treat in town. luxor.com/en/restaurants/diablos-cantina.html EL DORADO CANTINA Cinco de Mayo might be the busiest day of the year for this 24-hour cantina, but it’s been a locals’ hot spot since opening its doors in 2014. Serving authentic Mexican cuisine that’s free of antibiotics, pesticides and steroids, the off-Strip restaurant boasts an extensive menu that’s sure to impress even the most discerning diner. The Tableside Guacamole is prepared to each table’s liking, and its signature Paco’s Mole Sampler lets guests indulge in three traditional and tasty chicken moles: Oaxacan chocolate, pumpkin chile poblano and guajillo chipotle chile. Breakfast is available throughout the day, too. eldoradovegas.com EL SEGUNDO SOL The lushly landscaped Strip-front patio isn’t the only thing that will wow diners at this Fashion Show favorite. Famous for its savory street tacos and sizzling fajitas, the popular restaurant offers an array of authentic dishes from Oaxaca, Puebla and the Yucatán Peninsula for lunch and dinner. The scrumptious sweet corn and cheese Homemade Tamales are a must, as is the Grilled Steak, All-Natural Chicken and Achiote Mahi Mahi fajita combination platter. Of course, no trip is complete without ordering one of the restaurant’s marvelous margaritas — the Frozen Strawberry Margarita is actually made with fresh puréed strawberries! elsegundosol.com

Whether you’re in the mood for Korean barbecue or impeccable Italian cuisine, there’s sure to be a delightful new dining spot close by that taste buds will love. Guests are encouraged to order several plates and share them, with the BBQ Shrimp, Kogi Short Rib Tacos and Dumplings being real crowd pleasers. While diners can savor a variety of meat and seafood entrées for lunch, dinner and Saturday/Sunday brunch, the homemade pastas are not to be missed — particularly the palate-pleasing Piemontesi, red wine-braised beef short rib agnolotti in a Reggiano cream sauce. No trip is complete without trying the Prosciutto appetizer, either: 18-month aged Parma prosciutto served on lightly fried sage dough with arugula and stracciatella. EAT, SHOP AND LEARN EATALY LAS VEGAS BRINGS A NEW DINING EXPERIENCE TO THE STRIP By H. Wadowski

There may be countless places to eat on the Strip, but none of them are quite like Eataly Las Vegas. Located inside Park MGM, the expansive Italian eatery and marketplace cooks up a truly unique dining experience. The sixth Eataly in the United States and one of 37 locations worldwide, the 40,000-square-foot space offers an array of authentic Italian dishes that guests can enjoy in a variety of ways. One of its most popular dining options is its Cucina del Mercato, which features six savory takeaway counters where guests can order everything from flavorful street fare like the ragù with Bolognese-stuffed Arancini to seasonal, sustainably-sourced seafood. Guests will receive an electronic pager from each counter so they know when their dishes are ready, then can take their items to a nearby table to enjoy.

Guests can even purchase meat to cook at home.

For first-time visitors, dining at La Pizza e La Pasta for lunch or dinner is a must. The light and crispy Bufalotta pizza topped with Dok Dall’ava Prosciutto San Daniele that’s been aged for 18 months is one of the best pies on the Strip, and the meat-filled Agnolotti del Plin served in a black truffle butter is absolutely scrumptious!

SADELLE’S ARRIVES ON THE STRIP CHEF MARIO CARBONE BRINGS NEW YORK CITY FAVORITE TO LAS VEGAS By Heather Turk

One of New York City’s most desired reservations, Sadelle’s opened its first West Coast location this past December inside Bellagio. Overlooking the picturesque Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, the vintagestyle restaurant is the second famed East Coast eatery celebrated chef Mario Carbone has opened on the Las Vegas Strip with Major Food Group, the hospitality company he cofounded with chef Rich Torrisi and restaurateur Jeff Zalaznick. Like his namesake fine-dining Italian restaurant, Carbone, which opened inside ARIA Resort & Casino in 2015, Sadelle’s Las Vegas location is larger than its New York City counterpart, which gives its staff the chance to cook up “a greater sense of grandeur” for breakfast, lunch and dinner. “Sadelle’s and Carbone stand apart through the attention to detail and level of execution available at each restaurant,” Carbone said. “When you eat a meal at one of our restaurants in Las Vegas, the show continues. Our brand of fun, theatrical fine dining is a great way to either start or finish your day exactly as Las Vegas intended.”

12 ▪ Dining

Since Carbone admits he’s “a sucker for anything sweet,” it should come as no surprise that Sadelle’s has an extensive selection of desserts as well. While the Chocolate Pudding presentation is impressive, as it features several miniature bowls filled with various toppings (including wafer balls) to pair with each spoonful of pudding, the Elvis’ Sundae made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce, peanut butter cookies and caramelized bananas is a must for any first-time visitor to the Las Vegas location. Other menu highlights for lunch and dinner include the flavorful Coconut Shrimp appetizer served with a delightful green curry sauce, the perfectly prepared Roasted Salmon in a mustard vinaigrette and the juicy Garlic Chicken served with mashed potatoes and gravy. Carbone noted that Sadelle’s provides “an elevated version of the all-day restaurant that has not been seen in Las Vegas in a very, very long time.” This includes several unique tableside experiences, including an over-the-top pastry cart that showcases a selection of fresh-baked goods like bear claws, oatmeal raisin cookies and jelly donuts. While the restaurant serves several dishes that its New York City counterpart is known for, like the spicy Fried Chicken with truffle honey and coleslaw, it also offers several

A LIVING LEGEND

AU D I E N C E S W I L L G O G AG A FO R ‘ L E G E N D S I N CO N C E RT ’ L A DY G AG A T R I B U T E A RT I S T By Heather Turk

There may be no better time than the present to be a Lady Gaga tribute artist, but Tierney Allen isn’t just cashing in on the Academy Award winner’s recent success.

“I’m so lucky to be performing across the street, but it also puts this pressure on me to be better just in case one day she shows up to watch the show,” Allen told Sunseeker.

One of four tribute artists currently starring in Las Vegas’ longest-running production, “Legends in Concert,” Allen has been performing as a Lady Gaga tribute artist for nearly 10 years. A classically trained violinist who went on to study dance and opera as a kid, Allen turned her focus to mastering Lady Gaga’s powerhouse vocals and mannerisms after a celebrity commented on how much she looked like the then-rising star. Now, she’s performing some of Lady Gaga’s greatest hits, including “Bad Romance,” “Million Reasons” and a country version of “Born This Way,” inside “Legends in Concert’s” new home, Tropicana Las Vegas — located just down the street from Lady Gaga’s own residency at Park MGM.

Not that Allen has anything to worry about. The talented performer spent years perfecting her craft and admits it not only took a while to build the vocal range Lady Gaga has as a singer, but also become comfortable “belting out” her songs in front of an audience. Allen continues to work hard to do the “A Star is Born” actress justice, too. In addition to warming up an hour before each performance, she custom makes every outfit she wears on stage since she doesn’t trust anyone else to get Lady Gaga’s famous looks correct. “A big part of being a tribute artist is paying attention to the meticulous details,” Allen said. “I even play the same guitar Lady Gaga once played in the show.” Like other performers in “Legends in Concert”, Allen feels a strong obligation to her respective legend to get things right. That’s why she doesn’t like to dabble with performing as other singers, as she doesn’t want to take her focus off of being the best Lady Gaga tribute artist possible.

“Legends in Concert” celebrates music legends from yesterday and today

“People have asked me before to perform as Cher, and I love Cher, but if you start doing multiple acts I feel like they kind of turn into each other,” Allen stated. “I love portraying Lady Gaga. I love watching her grow [as an artist], and I want d e s t i n at i o n ▪ L a s V e g a s

to show audiences who couldn’t get tickets to her Las Vegas residency what it’s like seeing her in concert.”

Allen and the “Legends in Concert” dancers performing “Bad Romance”

By showcasing Lady Gaga’s many talents, from singing live to playing the guitar and piano, Allen is also showing audiences why Lady Gaga is deserving of being in “Legends in Concert.” For, unlike the other tribute artists currently in the Las Vegas production performing as Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston and Elvis Presley, Allen is the only tribute artist portraying someone who is still alive and making music today. “She’s at that Barbra Streisand-legend level, though,” Allen justified. “She can do anything — sing, dance, act — and everything she does she does amazingly. She applauds “Legends in Concert’s” producers with taking a chance on having a more contemporary star in the production and credits the show’s ability to change with the times as part of the reason it’s been a success for 35 years. “Just a few years ago, you weren’t allowed to take photos or videos at the show,” Allen commented. “Now, they realize it’s free advertising and want people to share their photos and video on social media. It’s a fitting tribute considering the recently renamed Legends in Concert Theater was home to the legendary “Folies Bergere” for 49 years. “Tropicana’s history, not to mention its geographic location at the beginning of the Strip, is just a perfect fit for Las Vegas’ longestrunning show,” Allen stated. “I truly believe this is ‘Legends’ best location yet.” “Legends in Concert” performs Monday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with an additional 4 p.m. matinee performance on Thursday and Saturday. “CELESTIA” AT THE STRAT HOTEL,

Following an eight-show run last November inside the Terry Fator Theatre, Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ) has returned to The Mirage for an extended engagement inside 1 OAK Nightclub. Known for transporting audiences to different decades of music with their art of mixing mainstream music with oldschool classic flair, the toe-tapping act puts on a Roaring ’20s party that’s unlike any other show they’ve done before. Audience members are encouraged to don vintage-inspired clothing to join in on the nostalgic vibe while watching a rotating cast of PMJ All-Stars reimagine some of contemporary pop, rock and R&B’s greatest hits. Comedian-ventriloquist Terry Fator may have celebrated his 10th anniversary headlining The Mirage in March, but he’s not the only “America’s Got Talent” (“AGT”) star with his own show on the Strip. The Entertainment Capital of the World has several productions starring some of the hit reality competition’s most popular contestants, whose crowd-pleasing acts continue to wow audiences just like they did on television.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. After revolutionizing the entertainment scene in Las Vegas with her groundbreaking residency “A New Day…” in 2003, Celine Dion will be taking her final bow inside The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on June 8. Fans only have 16 chances left to see Dion’s second resident production, “Celine,” which features the international superstar backed by a full orchestra and band as she performs a selection of her greatest hits. Even if you’ve seen “Celine” before, you will definitely want to check it out again, as Dion recently revamped the production. Not only is there a refreshed stage design, but the set list has been updated as well. Ticket holders will hear Dion perform 20 songs, from classics like 1995’s “To Love You More” and 1996’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” to Dion’s latest single, “Ashes,” which she recorded for the movie “Deadpool 2.” Dion even pays tribute to Prince and Elvis Presley during the show, singing such hits as “Purple Rain” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” Repeat ticket holders will notice Dion is more talkative during the production now, too, and 2 6 ▪ h e a d l i n e r E N t e rta i n m e n t

even tells audiences how Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, wrote her to ask if she would record “Ashes” for the film. Unfortunately, Dion mistakenly assumed that Reynolds wanted her to star alongside of him in the movie and hilariously shares how she began preparing for her non-existent role. Although Dion may not have graced the big screen with Reynolds, by “Celine’s” final performance on June 8, she will have graced The Colosseum’s stage 1,141 times and performed for more than 4.5 million fans since “A New Day…” premiered on March 25, 2003. While that’s impressive, what’s even more unbelievable is that the trailblazing performer still exudes energy during every performance. Her voice still sounds phenomenal, too, as every note Dion sings is pitch perfect. It’s no wonder she’s become such a music icon over the years! The final performances of “Celine” take place Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, May 14 through June 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are going fast, so be sure you don’t miss out on seeing Dion perform in Las Vegas one last time. IMMERSIVE MAGIC DAVID COPPERFIELD CONTINUES TO MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE By Heather Turk

While David Copperfield may joke that he lost all street cred as a kid when he had to bring back his teacher after making her disappear in front of his classmates, today the magician has cemented his status as a true living legend.

projects and remains very passionate about his art. Ticket holders can genuinely tell that he loves what he does, whether he is onstage making a Cadillac suddenly appear or out in the audience making someone levitate.

Known for such grand illusions as walking through the Great Wall of China and making the Statue of Liberty disappear, Copperfield continues to amaze audiences nightly with his jaw-dropping illusions inside of MGM Grand. Performing at his namesake 747-seat theater, Copperfield puts on one of the Strip’s best shows, featuring massive illusions and breathtaking sleight of hand.

What makes Copperfield’s show so unforgettable, though, are the emotional stories that go along with most of his illusions. Copperfield told Sunseeker that if he wasn’t a magician, he’d probably still be making a living telling stories — just in a different medium. For, in reality, Copperfield is just an elaborate storyteller who happens to use magic to bring his anecdotes to life. Audiences won’t only be wowed by his show, they’ll be moved, too, by the sentimental experience.

“I love that I can customize the magic to the room itself and make the show interactive and immersive,” Copperfield told Sunseeker. “The fact that the magic is happening above people’s heads, to them and around them is what sets the show apart.” One of the show’s newer bits actually took almost a decade to perfect, as it doesn’t just involve Copperfield making his favorite childhood toy — a T-Rex named Frank — appear from out of nowhere, but also extend five rows out into the audience. Another recent show addition, this one involving an adorable alien named Blu, is constantly being tweaked even after seven years of development, as Copperfield continues to introduce exciting new technology to the piece.

David Copperfield performs nightly at 7 and 9:30 p.m., with an additional 4 p.m. matinee on Saturdays (dark May 15-21 and June 13-19). mgmgrand.com

With so many shows constantly opening in Las Vegas, it can be hard for a production to find, let alone keep an audience. That’s why when a show succeeds in the city over an extended period of time, ticket holders know they’re in for an unforgettable experience. CHIPPENDALES AT RIO ALL-SUITE HOTEL & CASINO Celebrating its 40th anniversary as a company in June, this male revue has remained one of Sin City’s hottest tickets for 17 years. Every Friday through Sunday until May 26, guests can see “Jersey Shore’s” own keto guido, Vinny Guadagnino, performing in the production. Downtown Las Vegas is fun because you feel like you're back in the ’50s and ’60s. It has great restaurants and casinos. Plus, Main Street is a great place to go antique shopping.

Town Square Las Vegas also has great restaurants and shopping and isn’t too far from the Strip.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a beautiful place to hike. I take my dog there all the time.

2

Of course, Las Vegas is known for its nightclubs. I'm old so I don't actually go to the clubs anymore, but apparently, this is the town to go clubbing in. All the big DJs play here.

3

The Golden Tiki is this great place offStrip with a really cool vibe. It has amazing specialty drinks and Dole Whip — people love that. It has a waterfall, too, plus old movies playing and shrunken heads of all the celebrities in town. There’s even a shrunken head of me!

The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace is always fun because you feel like you're outside when you’re walking through it. The ceiling changes from a daytime sky to a nighttime one throughout the day, and it was designed so it looks like you're in Rome. It has all the best stores — both normal and high-end — as well as great restaurants.

Frankie's Tiki Room has been around for so long it's an institution. The off-Strip tiki bar has awesome drinks and a cool staff. You can walk through the door any time of day, and it's like a time warp. It's dark, awesome and worth checking out. Golden Steer Steakhouse is a great restaurant off-Strip that just about everyone, including The Rat Pack, used to visit. Its booths are even named after the celebrities who dined in them. One of the coolest things is watching its staff make a Caesar salad right at your table.

9

There's another old-school restaurant just off-Strip called Piero's Italian Cuisine that people like Jerry Lewis hung out in. In fact, on most Friday and Saturday nights you can find Pia Zadora singing there.

Calling all adrenaline junkies! From ziplines to a giant teeter-totter, you’ll find downtown Las Vegas offers several one-of-a-kind adventures you’ll never forget. BIG SHOT, INSANITY THE RIDE & X-SCREAM Head to the top of The STRAT Hotel, Casino and SkyPod for a trio of the coolest, most heartpounding thrill rides around. Start with the exhilarating Big Shot, which blasts you 160 feet straight up in the air and then lets you freefall straight down to the launch point to feel the dramatic G-force. Next, try Insanity The Ride, whose name essentially describes what you

can expect, as a giant mechanical arm holds you out over the tower’s edge while spinning you around. Finally, there’s X-Scream, which is something like a seesaw that hurls you headfirst over the tower’s edge. You’ll be left there dangling before it pulls you back and does it all over again. Not only are these rides flat-out fun, but they also provide spectacular views of the Las Vegas valley — if you take a moment in between all the screaming to notice! stratospherehotel.com/thrillrides SKYJUMP There’s another ride located near the top of The STRAT that’s in a category all its own. In fact, SkyJump boasts a Guinness World Record as the highest commercial decelerator descent facility. Similar to a vertical zipline or base jumping, this ride lets you leap off the tower from its 108th floor. After you take that first step from the platform, you’ll drop down at a speed topping 40 mph before landing softly on the ground. Whether you go at day, dusk or night, you’ll have an incomparable chance to soak up an amazing view. stratospherehotel.com/ attractions/skyjump SlotZilla Ready to get zippy? Fremont Street Experience has spawned one of the city’s greatest rides with SlotZilla. Taking off from a gigantic 11-story slot machine flanked by showgirls, you have two mind-blowing ways to soar beneath the iconic Viva Vision light canopy. Fly headfirst and belly down (aka Superman-style) on the upper zoomline, or travel in a seated position on the lower zipline. Either way, you can go side-by-side with up to three friends, which makes for an especially fun and unforgettable shared experience. vegasexperience.com/ slotzilla-zip-line at t r ac t i o n s ▪ 4 3

For those who have never experienced the pristine beauty of Sedona, with its enchanting red rock formations and mountainous surroundings, the area is sure to not only bring incredible sights but an all-around incredible experience. Renowned for its abundant landscape, Sedona brings in visitors from all around the world for exciting and fun experiences that center around the natural wonders that the area has to offer, including ripe vineyards, tranquil rivers and gorgeous trails.

As part of the Sedona Adventure Tours family, Verde Adventure River Tours takes guests just outside of Sedona and down the Verde River where they’ll not only enjoy a relaxing kayak tour, but also a stop at a local vineyard for a wine tasting as part of their Water to Wine Tour. Visitors who partake in this scenic and spirituous adventure will find themselves starting out in the small town of Cottonwood, Ariz., which is less than 20 miles from Sedona, but still part of the incredibly scenic part of the state. After check-in and some briefing about the tour, it’s all-aboard one of the many inflatable kayaks provided for a 90-minute trip down the Verde River. Guests will enjoy a relaxing float, which also provides some excitement with the chutes and riffles of the river, but nothing that requires kayaking experience or too much strength. The scenery is nothing short of amazing, and all types of wildlife can be seen. At the end of the trip down the river, guests will disembark among giant Cottonwood trees, where a gravel path will take them to a Tuscanstyle farmhouse, home of Alcantara Vineyards. Don’t let the name fool you. Old Town Scottsdale is one of the hippest places in the Valley. From its award-winning restaurants to its boutiques, art galleries and attractions, Old Town offers something for just about everyone. Old Town has so many outstanding restaurants it’s hard to single out just a few, but FnB deserves to be one of them. Not only does the restaurant emphasize fresh and local ingredients, but Chef Charleen Badman has been nominated Best Chef of the Southwest by the James Beard Foundation every year since 2014, including 2019. fnbrestaurant.com Craft 64 is another standout. Known for its artisanal pizzas fired in a 900 degree, woodburning oven, Craft 64 also has 30 craft beers on tap and a 50-plus bottle wine list overseen by one of the owners, an advanced sommelier. You can’t go wrong with the chef-recommended Margarita Pizza with Prosciutto. craft64.com

There’s no better place in the Valley to pick up a souvenir than Old Town. You’ll find everything from touristy t-shirts to books on Arizona and fine art. Looking for Native American crafts? Drop by one of Gilbert Ortega Gallery’s multiple Old Town locations. gilbertorteganativeamericangalleries.com Scottsdale is home to more than 100 galleries, many of which are in Old Town. You can browse the galleries by day or join the locals on Thursday evenings (year round except Thanksgiving) for Scottsdale ArtWalk. scottsdalegalleries.com While in Old Town, don’t miss Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West. The museum celebrates the people, art and history of the 19 states of the American West and is currently exhibiting the photographs of former Arizona Senator Barry M. Food isn’t the only draw to Old Town. The area boasts four wine tasting rooms. LASA Lasa is Tagalog for taste, and few restaurants offer a taste of the Philippines quite like this eatery. The brainchild of Filipino-American brothers chef Chad Valencia and Chase Valencia, Lasa moved from humble backyard beginnings to pop-up restaurants scattered around Los Angeles. Now, the brothers have their first flagship restaurant in Chinatown’s Far East Plaza, delighting diners with delectable dishes like the Pork Cheek Kaldereta, the Lumpia Sariwa and the Twice Cooked Octopus, each a feast for the senses. While a reservation is recommended for dinner, their brunch on Saturday and Sunday is first come first served, with exciting twists on familiar brunch favorites. lasa-la.com THE LITTLE JEWEL OF NEW ORLEANS Drawing its inspiration from the rich culinary history of New Orleans, this market and delicatessen prides itself on serving up Louisiana staples that aren’t readily available outside the Big Easy, like southern spices, sauces and comfort food. All of the sausages and cooking meats are made in-house, like the classic cajun Boudin or the spicy Andouille, and are ready to be taken home and enjoyed throughout the week, but eager eaters will be delighted to know that the Little Jewel also serves a litany of delicious items to eat immediately. A po’boy slathered in mayo and topped with fried Shrimp and Catfish makes for a satisfying lunch, and an order of their Beignets, baked fresh every day, paired with a Cafe au Lait is the perfect morning pick-meup. littlejewel.la d e s t i n at i o n ▪ So u t h e r n C a l i fo r n i a

With so many great places for drinking and revelry, one could get lost in all the options. Luckily, there are a few spots that stand out from the crowd, drawing locals and tourists with entertainment, character and plenty of drinks. STARLINE SOCIAL CLUB Originally built in 1893 by A.W. Smith as an Oddfellows House & Saloon, the three-story victorian building at 2236 Martin Luther King Jr. Way now houses the Starline Social Club. With multiple music venues and performing spaces, a ballroom, restaurant and bar, Starline Social Club makes the most of the space, giving artists and community organizers a fitting stage, and hungry Oaklandites a place to eat, drink and dance. Happy hour from 4 and 6 p.m. tempts patrons with $2 oysters and $6 well drinks, and on tuesday nights at 8 p.m., live jazz musicians perform at the bar. starlinesocialclub.com MAKE WESTING While the owners of Make Westing would rather it be considered more of a bar than a restaurant, neither title really does it justice. Though it’s only been open for eight years, Make Westing has already become a neighborhood fixture, a community institution for those who

crave well-priced drinks, greasy food and a little late night bocce ball. Classy yet approachable, Make Westing straddles the line between neighborhood bar and elegant gastropub, where dishes billed as “Things in Jars” contain decadent ingredients, like the Duck Fat Garlic and Oxtail Jus that flavor their Roasted Bone Marrow. It’s only fitting that it’s named after a Jack London quote, a man known as much for his beautiful writing as his grizzly hardships. makewesting.com COMSTOCK SALOON Where once there was the San Francisco Brewing Company, opened in 1867, now stands Comstock Saloon. While the original taps have since gone dry, the bar remains, preserved since 1907 in a space that celebrates the building’s alcohol-infused heritage. Live music reverberates off the wood paneling, filling the restaurant with mirth, as hungry patrons tear into a menu that delights as much as it surprises. Eggs on Eggs, chef Jason Raffin’s current spin on the deviled egg, features caviar, beet powder and “crunchy things” atop a misodeviled egg, and the Comstock Burger comes topped with secret sauce and malt-vinegar chips. comstocksaloon.com

Kudos to the good job you are all doing.

After leaving the airport, I noticed I didn’t have my wallet. As you can imagine, I panicked! I remembered making an in-flight purchase, which was the last time I had seen it. After making some calls, I believed my wallet was lost even though Allegiant assured me they would do everything possible to find it. But the next day, I received a message my wallet was found! Although I shouldn’t be surprised when everyone you meet in an organization is competent, capable, and compassionate, It’s a breath of fresh air. I wish all organizations operated like this.

As temperatures rise in Las Vegas, so does the pool scene at most of the city’s resorts. It’s not uncommon to find as many around the pools during the day as you find inside the casinos at night. But, if you’re looking for the right pool to take the whole family to or just looking for one to relax by, some pools are better than others.

The Boulevard Pool of The Cosmopolitan

Sliding through the Tank of the Golden Nugget

Mandalay Bay Rated “One of the Best Pools in the US” by TripAdvisor, the sandy shores of the Mandalay Bay Beach are spread out over 11 acres and offer a variety of different experiences. You can ride the tides in their 1.6-million gallon wave pool (must be at least 48 inches to swim in the wave pool), grab an inner-tube and go with the flow around their lazy river or just catch some shade under one of their many cabanas. Non-hotel guests are welcome with paid admission Monday through Thursday. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas The Cosmo offers three distinct pools, each providing a different experience. The Chelsea Pool has a secluded canyon-like experience where you can kick your feet up, relax and listen to soothing ambient sounds while being waited on by an attentive staff. The Marquee Dayclub is an exciting beach club for adults, offering a loungelike feel during the day and transforming into a nightclub after the sun goes down. The Boulevard Pool overlooks the Las Vegas Strip and creates a communal atmosphere where everyone can come together. On Mondays from May through September, the marquee at the Boulevard Pool becomes an enormous movie screen, allowing you to lounge in the water or poolside while watching classics like "Dirty Dancing" and "Jaws" or recent hits like "A Star is Born" and "Aquaman." Golden Nugget Downtown, the Tank at the Golden Nugget is a three-story complex with 17 private cabanas and a fully encapsulated 200,000-gallon shark tank right in the center of pool. You can even climb 30 feet into the air and take its unique waterslide right through the tank’s center. CNN Travel rated it one of “America’s Most Amazing Hotel Pools.” Sunseeker ▪ 59

At Allegiant, we’re all about the hard-working team members who make up our unique culture. From collegiate athletes, to business owners, to musicians, we have an eclectic group who represent us in the air, at airports across the country and in our Las Vegas headquarters. I spent time talking with KC Para, IT Project Manager, about his unique experiences and passion for life: Tell us a little about yourself and what you do here at Allegiant. I am an IT Project Manager. I work with our Development and Quality Assurance teams to make sure initiatives are completed. I’m also on our companywide Culture Board. I love being a part of something that lets me connect so many people. I’ve never loved a job as much as I love the one I have now. A little about me - I was raised in Southern California and moved to Las Vegas in 2017. Shortly after I was born, I was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (a congenital disorder of movement and muscle tone) and was expected to never walk with a life span of seven years. It wasn’t easy, but I was lucky to grow up beating the odds. I’ve been married for eight years to my wife who has three sons. Wow! With your diagnosis happening at such a young age, tell me about some things you’ve done that never felt possible. I’ve done a lot over the years, you could write a book! I’ve enjoyed racing cars, riding

motorcycles and performing in bands. I never let my disability hold me back, it only encourages and drives me more. I completed a 4k (2.5 miles) race because of Allegiant! How did that happen? Someone in my department was competing in Corporate Challenge (Olympic style events hosted by the city of Las Vegas) and mentioned there was a wheelchair division that had zero participants. Automatic gold medal? Sure! I broke out my manual wheelchair and showed up to find hundreds of people ready to compete. They let me start a few seconds early to avoid the rush. The irony is that I still finished last. Near the end of the race, I was coming up a hill with no one in sight, debating if I should keep going or quit. When I looked up, I saw a ton of people cheering, smiling and coming my way. This always makes me emotional. Seeing my team and other finishers get back on the course, to cheer me on and finish the race with me, displayed such a sense of community and humanity. It was a life changing moment that I’ll never forget. I love your drive to do what you love and try new things. I grew up with really encouraging parents who taught me to try new things. That’s probably why I love Allegiant so much - our culture and leaders encourage innovation. I love being able to show people what is possible!

The new livery will most often be seen at our Florida bases — which is fitting, given the fact that more than 95 percent of Make-A-Wish® kids flown by Allegiant travel to the Sunshine State to visit theme parks and beaches. Maybe you’ve seen it. If not, check out the time-lapse video that shows the aircraft’s transformation! Our partnership began on August 25, 2012, when 10-year-old wish kid Jaime and his 11 family members departed from Allentown, Pa., on a trip to Orlando for their first-ever vacation. Jaime had always dreamed of running around the fabled Florida theme parks with his siblings. He got his wish. Since then, Allegiant has helped grant 1,600 more to Make-A-Wish® kids from cities across the nation. We recognize that a wish helps to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. It often has a transformative impact on wish kids, providing the positive mental and

emotional boost needed to help them deal with — and oftentimes overcome — their illness. “Allegiant’s contribution is crucial as nearly 77 percent of wishes require air travel, making it a mission critical resource. Great partners like Allegiant help us move closer to our vision of granting the life-changing wish of every eligible child,” said Holly Thomas, Make-A-Wish® vice president of corporate alliances. Making air travel accessible to everyone is embedded in Allegiant’s DNA, and our partnership with Make-A-Wish® is an important way we demonstrate that. We are currently recognized as a Wish Champion, donating more than $1 million annually. To watch a time-lapse video showing the plane’s transformation, visit: youtube.com/ Allegiant Have you seen the Make-A-Wish® plane at your local airport? Snap a picture, tell us where you saw it and tag @Allegiant along with #WishPlane for a chance to be featured on our Instagram story. Want to know how you can make an immediate impact? When you purchase the Wingz Kids Snack Pack, $1 of the purchase price will go directly to Make-A-Wish® to help realize their goal of fulfilling every child’s wish.

TRAVELER INFORMATION SAFETY FIRST

Customer safety is Allegiant ®’s first concern. Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following:

• Location of the nearest emergency exit • Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed • Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency SEAT BELTS

Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards.

Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.

PHOTOS & VIDEOS ONBOARD

The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers.

ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Allegiant is forbidden to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated or who has not yet reached the age of 21. It is a violation of federal regulations to drink alcoholic beverages during a flight unless they have been served by Allegiant personnel.

SMOKING

CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS

Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling

“THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT" from the manufacturer.

Smoking, the use of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and other similar smoking devices are not permitted on any Allegiant flight. Federal law imposes fines of $1,000 for smoking and up to $2,000 for any attempt to disable an aircraft smoke detector.
