S p i e s I n D i s g u i s e Co - D i r ec to r s Turn the Spy Genre On Its Head By Christopher Lewis
Directors Nick Bruno & Troy Quane partner up to direct the latest feature from Disney and Blue Sky Studios, Spies in Disguise. The film features an all-star cast as super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) team up to save the world. We sat with both directors to discuss the upcoming film. What was the inspiration for this movie? How did this all start? Nick Bruno (NB): This is an opportunity to give kids what will probably be their very first spy movie, and where, in a world where violence and action is king, we thought this is an awesome opportunity to show kids that there’s another way to approach dealing with people. When it started Troy was out in California and I was in New York, working on the Peanuts movie. We had both read the script. We’d never met each

other; we’d never worked together. But I think we both had the same reaction to the script where, when we read it, we said, this might be one of the dumbest ideas ever. Troy Quane (TQ): We have to do it. We have to do it. NB: Because it’s so unique, it’s silly, but within that movie, we felt that there was a good message. What does this movie mean to you? NB: We feel a tremendous responsibility with delivering what might be a kid’s first spy movie. And, it’s been so passionate for us to not just have fun with all the things that come with making a spy movie, but at the same time, delivering a message that you think can possibly make the world a better place.
TQ: I think epic, I think exciting, I think global. But then I also say heartfelt and endearing and hopefully aspirational. And I think that juxtaposition is what we were always after, that you have this really intimate, heartfelt story inside this gigantic big action set piece. And, hopefully that comes through. And we’ll never look at pigeons the same way again right? NB: Yeah. You know, one of the things that you learn and discover is just how amazing pigeons really are. They’re in every city around the world. Nobody even knows that they’re there. So they’re hiding in plain sight. Pigeons can see in three hundred and sixty degrees, which means that at any given time, they could see your face and their butt. You can’t sneak up on them. TQ: Right. They’re one of the fastest birds in the world - only the peregrine falcon is faster. But because they’re so fast, they see at a faster rate of speed than we do, so everything to them feels slow motion, so we would always refer to it as Pigeon Bullet Time.
the dumbest thing you’d ever seen, but when you think of it, you’re like, “man, that’s actually genius.” So, it was a turning point. NB: That’s also where we came up with the “Let’s get weird.” Because it’s not just a mantra in the movie. It’s a mantra for making the movie. At first, it seems a little weird, but there’s some real good grounding behind it all. So let’s get weird! Spies in Disguise opens nationwide Dec. 25.

NB: Mm hmm. TQ: They see UV light. So, they see bands of light that we can’t see with the human eye… When we first read the script, it was just a joke. We turn the world’s greatest spy into a pigeon. And we started going - this is the genius that is Walter. At the surface, it seems like a joke, but really what he’s saying is, this is the best cover for a spy. No one knows you’re there. You’ve got all these built-in gadgets. It’s actually genius, right? And that became really the approach for all of Walter’s other gadgets. At first glance, they seem like

Sunseeker recommends ordering the Pitmaster’s Feast so taste buds can try three different smoked meats, like the tender beef brisket and the succulent herb and citrus-brined half chicken, and building your own beer flight. The Bavarian-style pretzel is also a great start to the meal, and playing a game of Skee-Ball is a must before leaving. trustworthybrewingco.com/las-vegas WATER GRILL INSIDE THE FORUM SHOPS AT CAESARS PALACE Home to some of the Strip’s freshest seafood, this sophisticated restaurant has several tanks by its kitchen showcasing live prawns, lobsters and some very large crabs. Although there’s never a wrong time to dine at one of Las Vegas’ bountiful buffets, dinnertime tends to be when the all-you-can-eat buffets showcase their most delectable dishes. While guests never have to worry about leaving hungry, some Strip buffets are known for cooking up a slightly more delightful dinner experience than others. THE BUFFET AT WYNN LAS VEGAS With its floral-lined, sunlit atrium and massive chocolate fountain, this buffet is undoubtedly one of the Strip’s most striking smorgasbords. However, it’s far from being all flash and no substance. Not only will guests find several live-action cooking stations making everything from gourmet tacos to seafood paella, but there’s also a lavish carving station featuring an assortment of succulent meats — including tomahawk rib eyes on Friday and Saturday night. While the weekend dinner spread has a few additional items like steamed crab legs for guests to enjoy, there are always dozens of seasonally-inspired dishes for taste buds to relish throughout the week. Be sure to try the vegan corn chowder and the ginger and garlic lamb T-bone when available, and don’t forget a candy apple for dessert! wynnlasvegas.com/ dining/casual-dining/the-buffet LE VILLAGE BUFFET AT PARIS LAS VEGAS Visitors may be able to make reservations for this popular buffet on OpenTable, but that’s not the only reason it is a local favorite. Guests will feel like they’re Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” as they dine in a charming French village setting while feasting upon fare from five provinces of France. During dinner hours, guests can savor everything from sweet and D e s t i n at i o n ▪ L a s V e g a s

In addition to more unique items like bone marrow and duck wings, diners can savor a variety of sumptuous small plates for dinner like shrimp and grits and eel kabayaki. There is also a mac and cheese station where guests can build their own tasty creation using mix-ins like sausage and ham, as well as a seafood station where guests can order items like mussels and salmon cooked in various broths. cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/ restaurants/wicked-spoon

The man credited with spearheading the celebrity chef restaurant scene in Las Vegas when he opened Spago inside The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace in 1992 (Spago relocated to Bellagio in 2018) is always looking for ways to improve his culinary empire. That’s why when the space adjacent to CUT inside The Palazzo became available to rent last year, he decided to expand his award-winning steakhouse in honor of its 10th anniversary.
“You have to know your customers,” Puck said. “Although we get a lot of locals, we also get a lot of convention guests who want to go to the bar and have a drink while they wait for their friends.”
“You have to keep pushing forward or else you’ll never make it,” Puck told Sunseeker. “You can’t just sit on the same menu or décor. You have to evolve and do something new to create some excitement among the staff and customers.” Puck let CUT’s executive chef, Matthew Hurley, take the lead on the project, which included doubling the size of CUT’s bar and lounge to
A shellfish and crudo bar was even added to one end of the bar to showcase some of Hurley’s sumptuous chilled seafood, like the Alaskan King Crab in a Thai red curry vinaigrette. Several changes were made to the back of the house, too, while the dining room got new lights, a lighter color scheme and more intimate booths. Although a variety of smaller steaks remain on the menu, like the succulent 6-ounce American Wagyu Filet Mignon, Puck recommends ordering the 34-ounce USDA prime porterhouse or the 40-ounce 50-day dry aged tomahawk rib chop and sharing it family style. Guests can choose from an increased selection of Japanese Wagyu beef for dinner as well and enjoy a cocktail from the new Old Fashioned cart. Despite all the changes, one thing that remains the same at CUT is its commitment to quality customer service.

Following a successful run at Bally’s Jubilee Theater in April, Warwick began performing at the 160-seat Cleopatra’s Barge in September.
Fans will be just feet away from the six-time GRAMMY winner as she takes audiences on an intimate musical journey that celebrates her storied career, performing the hit songs that helped her sell more than 100 million records worldwide. Even though Warwick has been in the music industry for more than 50 years, audiences will discover her soothing and scintillating vocals still sound as incredible as ever. It’s no wonder she just released a new album, Dionne Warwick and the Voices of Christmas, in October! While fans will have to wait and see if Warwick performs any holiday songs during her November string of performances, audiences are sure to hear a selection of Warwick’s timeless tracks — hits like “Walk on By,” “I Say a Little Prayer” and “Do You Know the Way to San Jose” — in addition to the recently released “If I Want To” from her 2019 album, She’s Back. The charming chanteuse also shares several personal stories with the audience during her show, many of them focused on her drummer and eldest son, David Elliott. Always full of surprises, Warwick even brought her granddaughter, Cheyenne Elliott, out onstage with her during her opening weekend at Cleopatra’s Barge to perform a few numbers together, including one of Cheyenne’s own songs. The two then led the audience in a singalong as they performed “What the World Needs Now is Love.”

Carrot Top has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, as his hit Las Vegas show is entering its 15th year at Luxor Hotel and Casino. “Steven Tyler recently asked me how I find the energy to do six shows a week, but honestly I’m having more fun now than when I started,” Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Thompson, told Sunseeker. Even though Thompson admitted he was a bit frightened to go from performing 10 to 12 weeks a year at MGM Grand to having his own residency at Luxor in 2005, today the iconic prop comedian said that being a fulltime Las Vegas headliner is “the greatest thing in the world.” “I’ve learned so much,” he said. “I’m more confident now, and my show has a lot more storytelling in it. I recently even added a throwback trunk of classic props. A lot of people have told me that’s their favorite part of the show. The first part of my show is so fast paced, but then I just sit on a stool and talk for 20 minutes about my life and how I got here.”
telling jokes for an hour in the rain. Later, management told me that what I did was dangerous, and that the ceiling could have caved in on me, but I told them they didn’t hire a smart guy to do the show — they hired a comedian!” Luckily for fans, Thompson’s passion for his craft extends far beyond that one eventful night. “People always ask me, ‘How long are you going to do this for?’ and I don’t have an answer to that,” he said. “I’m still enjoying this; I still feel like a kid. One day, I’m sure it will hit me that I need to slow down, but that day isn’t here yet.” Carrot Top performs Wednesday through Monday at 8 p.m. luxor.com

While Thompson credits part of his show’s success with keeping things fresh over the years and constantly working on new material, the fact that he gives each performance “110 percent” definitely doesn’t go unnoticed by his fans. “Recently, I was doing the show, and I heard this tapping noise,” Thompson recalled. “All of a sudden, I felt a drop of water, and rain started pouring down from the ceiling. Shania Twain wants fans to party during “Let’s Go!”

LET’S GO! S H A N I A T WA I N R E T U R N S TO L A S V E G A S W I T H ALL-NEW RESIDENCY By H. Wadowski
When Shania Twain ended her first Las Vegas residency, “Shania: Still the One,” at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in December 2014, the country music superstar knew she wasn’t saying goodbye to Las Vegas for good. “I knew I’d be back,” Twain told Sunseeker. “I just loved having a residency in Las Vegas so much, and everyone treated me so well. There were no immediate plans for my return, but I was definitely open to the idea.”
“Let’s Go!” will showcase Shania Twain’s signature style

Now, almost five years later, Twain is returning to the Entertainment Capital of the World with an all-new residency, “Let’s Go!” Staged inside Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, the production promises to take fans on a nostalgic musical journey as the five-time GRAMMY winner performs some of her greatest hits from her three-decade-long career — songs like “That’s Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” “The Colosseum was a more formal environment, which I took advantage of, but with ‘Let’s Go!’ I wanted to create a show that would make people want to get out of their seats and party,” Twain said. “Even though Zappos Theater is still a theater, every residency I’ve seen there has sort of this fun, giant amphitheater or party-club environment feel to it. I wanted to create an experience that makes people forget they’re in a theater and feels more like an arena tour show, but with better technology.” Twain considers having another residency in Las Vegas both an honor and a privilege, as she knows that the city has a remarkable music history and only showcases “proper performers.” The topselling female country artist of all time plans on working hard to make her fans — and the city — proud, and although she said she won’t be bringing any live horses with her onstage like she did at the start of “Shania: Still the One,” she does have plenty of interactive moments planned for fans. Twain also plans on modifying the “Let’s Go!’” setlist one year into its two-year run after d e s t i n at i o n ▪ l a s v e g a s

The Queen of Country Pop, who credits part of her crossover appeal to her ability to write songs audiences can relate to, will continue to embrace the Las Vegas community as well when she’s back in town. Not only will she be cheering on the Vegas Golden Knights (“I love that Las Vegas is a hockey town now!” she exclaimed gleefully), but $1 from every ticket purchased to see “Let’s Go!” will be donated to Shania Kids Can. The nonprofit charity, which currently benefits Las Vegas’ Doris French Elementary School, was founded by Twain in 2010 to help relieve the economic, social and personal sufferings of children that she herself once experienced in hopes that their future “isn’t left to chance.” “Let’s Go!” kicks off its first string of performances during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, with shows scheduled for Dec. 6, 7, 11, 13, 14 and 18 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $60, plus taxes and fees. As Twain said, her new residency is a party that even she’s dying to go to! ticketmaster.com/ shaniavegas

ANTHONY COOLS For more than 15 years, this hypnotist has been leaving audiences in stitches during his hilarious, adults-only hypnosis show at Paris Las Vegas. Ticket holders can either watch the show from their seats or become the stars of the production, as the risqué show relies on audience volunteers to be hypnotized. While Cools will gauge each crowd’s reaction to see how far he can take things onstage (his signature bit involves people auditioning for an adult film using a chair), he never lets things get too out of control for the safety of his guests. Since no two shows are ever the same, no one knows what to expect — except that the show’s ending is sure to be climactic! anthonycools.com

That news should come as no surprise to anyone who has seen the show during its eightyear run on the Strip, as its stars perform many of the Bee Gees’ beloved hits perfectly, including “I Started a Joke,” “Jive Talkin’” and “Tragedy.” By the end of the show, ticket holders will be on their feet dancing. Audiences can enjoy some exciting new visuals during the production, too, thanks to new high-resolution LED screens on both sides of the stage. abgshow.com
“MYSTÈRE” Celebrating its 26th anniversary at Treasure Island on Dec. 25, Cirque du Soleil’s first Las Vegas resident production remains one the Strip’s best bets for a great time. That rare show ticket holders can watch repeatedly and never grow tired of, the breathtaking production consistently wows audiences from start to finish with its beautiful music, fanciful characters and jaw-dropping acrobatic feats. Home to arguably the best hand-to-hand act in the business today, the show continues to set the bar for acrobatic productions in Las Vegas. There’s truly not a moment during the whimsical production that audiences won’t be laughing, smiling or holding their breath in suspense! cirquedusoleil.com/mystere

With so many entertainment options on the Las Vegas Strip, it can be hard for productions to thrive over an extended period of time. That’s why when a show connects with audiences year after year, ticket holders know they’re watching something special.

GONE COUNTRY LAS VEGAS CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF THE WRANGLER NATIONAL FINALS RODEO By H. Wadowski
Riding into town for its 35th year, the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (Wrangler NFR) returns to Thomas & Mack Center Dec. 5-14. One of Las Vegas’ most highly anticipated annual events, the Wrangler NFR is the world’s richest and most prestigious rodeo. Now in its 61st year, this year’s event will feature the top 15 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding based on the 2019 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association World Standings competing for their share of $10 million in prize money. That’s quite a difference from when the city first welcomed the rodeo in 1985, as the purse back then was only a little more than $1.8 million! Currently contracted to host the rodeo through 2024, Las Vegas welcomes thousands of rodeo enthusiasts each year decked out in Wrangler jeans and shirts, Justin Boots and cowboy hats
to cheer on their favorite competitors. In fact, last year’s event had a total attendance of 169,171 people over the 10 days of competition! Since the rodeo has sold out more than 320 consecutive performances, it’s not surprising that several resorts all over town host viewing parties for fans who weren’t able to score tickets to each day’s events. This year, more than 30 properties are expected to pick up the live satellite feed of all 10 Wrangler NFR performances. While the individual sporting events are obviously the focal point of the rodeo, with start times beginning nightly at 6:45 p.m., there are numerous special events going on for rodeo fans to enjoy before and after each evening’s action-packed competitions. Not only do several hotels feature some of the biggest names in country music and comedy performing in their showrooms and theaters, but there are also several official Wrangler NFR events going on rodeo fans won’t want to miss. The rodeo-themed fun actually starts a few days early on Dec. 1 at 10 a.m. with the official Miss Rodeo America contestant introductions inside Tropicana Las Vegas’ conference center. The 65th annual Miss Rodeo America Pageant will then continue with several events throughout the week before concluding on Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. with a coronation performance inside Tropicana Las Vegas’ Legends in Concert Theater.
This year’s Stetson Country Christmas takes place at the Rio 40

Dunn, McEntire and Brooks put on Las Vegas’ most unique residency
WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS… REBA MCENTIRE AND BROOKS & DUNN CONTINUE TO HAVE FUN ‘TOGETHER IN VEGAS’ By H. Wadowski
When Brooks & Dunn return to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in December to resume their hit residency with Reba McEntire, “REBA, BROOKS & DUNN: Together in Vegas,” the fact that the best-selling duo of all time was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October won’t be the only thing that’s changed since their last string of performances at the venue in July. “After four years, they’ve rearranged the furniture on us,” joked Kix Brooks, referring to The Colosseum’s recent renovation.
“It’s fun for the crowd to see us pick on Reba a bit,” he laughed. “We know how to get her, but we never know what she’s going to come at us with next. It’s sort of like a tennis match — someone hits the ball hard, and the other person just has to take the blast.” Brooks admitted that when the trio first began their residency in 2015, he was worried about getting tired of performing at the same place every night. Luckily for fans, that hasn’t been the case. “We didn’t exactly know what we were getting ourselves into,” Brooks said. “A lot of what we say to each other onstage is unplanned, though, so that keeps things fresh. We have fun up there, and I think that fun is contagious.” Brooks teased that with so many country acts in town for the rodeo, there’s a “good chance” the country superstars could have some familiar faces hanging out with them during their December dates, although nothing is planned. At the very least, Brooks joked that he might wear a cowboy hat to get into the rodeo spirit.
“Together in Vegas” has had 88 performances since June 2015 44
“There are always surprises,” Brooks said. “Every night’s a little different, but we always have a good time.” thecolosseum.com

Returning Dec. 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m., Las Vegas’ longest-running country music residency continues to be one of the city’s hottest tickets during the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Audiences can see Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn perform together and separately during the production, which features more than 30 hit singles like McEntire’s “Fancy” and Brooks &
Dunn’s “My Maria.” While Brooks credited part of the show’s success with the fact that fans get to hear a lot of familiar music, he knows the chemistry he and Ronnie Dunn share with their “big sister” is what really makes each performance so memorable.

Irving Berlin may have been dreaming of a winter chill when he wrote White Christmas at the Arizona Biltmore, but you don’t need snow to celebrate the season, especially at Valley resorts. Many go all out for the holidays with over-the-top light displays, Santa meet-andgreets and even adults-only festivities like Christmas-themed mixology classes.
The Phoenician has plenty of other holiday activities for the whole family, including story time with Mrs. Claus, Breakfast with Santa, holiday tea, baking in Santa’s workshop, elf magic tricks and more. Guests can also take a narrated tour of the property’s 2-acre cactus garden, decorated for the season. thephoenician.com

Highlights include the Enchanted Plaza tree with its 70,000 LED lights blinking in time to 17 classic holiday tunes, the resort’s lagoons decorated with 4.5 million LED lights and a five-minute HD video show projected on the resort’s façade.
THE WIGWAM This year, The Wigwam has more to celebrate than just the holidays. Thanksgiving Day marks the resort’s 90th anniversary, and in the week leading up it, visitors can enjoy movie screenings, live jazz music and a family game night.
In addition to ice skating, kids can sit on Santa’s lap and pose with holiday characters like Peppermint Penguin and Selfie Elfie. The resort also boasts a holiday train, carousel, Ferris wheel, ice slide and BuildA-Bear Workshop. Allegiant passengers landing in Phoenix know how mesmerizing its unique landscapes can be, but few get the chance to see what’s beyond their limited, window-seat view.
Both sunrise flights, offered daily, and sunset flights, offered November through March, begin with your balloon’s inflation, followed by one hour in the air. After touching down, first-time flyers participate in the legendary Balloonist Ceremony, and all enjoy a champagne breakfast or dinner provided by Vincent’s on Camelback. The total experience lasts approximately three to four hours. hotairexpeditions.com HELICOPTER Where a hot air balloon provides panoramic views of the Valley, a helicopter takes you closer to specific landmarks. The Foothills flight adds to that a loop around one of the world’s tallest man-made fountains.
VINTAGE AIRCRAFT For a flight you’ll never forget, board one of the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum’s vintage aircraft and soar over the incredible landscapes of the Sonoran Desert. The museum offers flights on seven of its warbirds, including its B-17, B-25, T-6 Texan and opencockpit Stearman biplane. As you loop around the Superstition Mountains, your pilot will teach you a little about the aircraft you’re in and direct your attention to points of interest like Weaver’s Needle. Depending on the aircraft and your sense of adventure, the ride can be as mild as a commercial flight or include acrobatic maneuvers. Or, make a splash on the Wolf Tail slide that drops you nearly 20 feet before finishing with a 360-degree, high-speed loop. There’s also a lazy river, toddler play area and a paddling pool. Great Wolf Lodge also features a multi-level, guests-only play area with miniature golf, fourlane bowling alley, ropes course and 100-plus game arcade. As if that weren’t enough, kids can play MagiQuest, an inhouse interactive game that has them battling dragons and searching for runes throughout the property, too. Kids can make crafts at Camp Yowl, try yoga at Yoga Tales in the morning and listen to stories in the lobby — pajamas encouraged — in the evening. CLASSIC PHOENIX DINING R E S TAU R A N T S T H AT H AV E S TO O D THE TEST OF TIME By Teresa Bitler
According to The Restaurant Brokers, a commercial real estate brokerage firm, the average lifespan of a restaurant is just five years. So, when a restaurant not only survives for decades but remains a local favorite, it’s worth noting. Several restaurants in the Valley have withstood the test of time, including classic Phoenix options that Allegiant passengers won’t want to miss on their next visit. DURANT’S A staple on Central Avenue since 1950, this oldschool steakhouse is famous for its entrance through the kitchen, red-flocked wallpaper and menu featuring broiled steaks and an extensive wine list. It also has one of the Valley’s best classic martinis, something that shouldn’t be surprising given its “Mad Men” era feel.

THE STOCKYARDS Opened in 1947 to feed hungry cowboys working at cattle baron Edward A. Tovrea’s packing house and feedlot, The Stockyards quickly became a favorite with affluent cattlemen, local bankers, politicians and celebrities like John Wayne. Today, you’ll still see a few cowboys at the bar and businessmen at the tables, but it’s also popular with diners celebrating a special night out. Start the evening with an order of Paloma Ranch Calf Fries, aka Rocky Mountain oysters, then slice into a corn-fed steak or roast prime rib. The Chateaubriand for Two is an excellent option for a romantic dinner. You can also skip the red meat in favor of Pecan-Dusted Walleyed Pike or Herb Roasted Half Chicken. stockyardssteakhouse.com MACAYO’S Woody and Victoria Johnson opened their first restaurant, Woody’s El Nido, on McDowell Road in 1946, but their second restaurant, Macayo’s, has been thriving in Phoenix since 1952. Today, you can try their family recipes at any of their eight Valley locations, including Woody’s Macayo’s and Macayo’s Depot Cantina. For an appetizer, order a cheese crisp, an openfaced tortilla covered with cheese and baked in the oven, to share with the table. Then, dig into a chimichanga — a deep fried burrito — said to have been invented by Woody Johnson in 1946. Wash it down with a Simply Perfect Margarita made with Patrón Silver. macayo.com d e s t i n at i o n ▪ P h o e n i x / M e s a

HOLLYWOOD’S JACK OF ALL TRADES ACTOR DANNY TREJO ON HIS MOST IMPORTANT ROLE YET: CELEBRITY RESTAURATEUR By Heather Turk
Danny Trejo may be one of Hollywood’s most prolific actors with nearly 400 credits to his name, but since opening his first Trejo’s Tacos in Los Angeles in 2016, the “Machete” star has become more well known in Southern California for his growing culinary empire. “People see me eating at my restaurants and they go, ‘Don’t you do movies, too?’ — which is funny since I have been acting since 1985, but have only had my own restaurants for three years,” Trejo told Sunseeker. After noticing how much the actor enjoyed good food while on the set of 2012’s “Bad Ass,” producer Ash Shah told Trejo that he should open his own restaurant. Without missing a beat, Trejo responded “Trejo’s Tacos” and two “Bad Ass” sequels later, Shah and his former college roommate, Jeff Georgino, presented a business plan to him. Trejo passed it along to his agent for approval, and now, the trio operates eight eateries in Southern California: four Trejo’s Tacos, three Trejo’s Cantinas (which serve alcohol) and one Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts.
“You could throw a dart at the menu, and everything is great,” Trejo said. “I always tell people to order a plate of tacos so they can try three different kinds.” Standout selections at Trejo’s Tacos and Trejo’s Cantina include the vegan cauliflower taco and the beef barbacoa taco. Over at Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts, meanwhile, guests can enjoy everything from vegan donuts to a Nacho donut topped with jalapeños, chives, Trejo’s Hot Sauce and cheddar cheese. Although fans can also try some of Trejo’s famed fare at select Live Nation venues across the country, the only place to savor all of his eateries’ mouth-watering creations is in the Los Angeles area. trejostacos.com The vegan cauliflower taco at Trejo’s Tacos and Trejo’s Cantina
Photos courtesy of Trejo’s Tacos
“People keep asking me what’s the secret to my success, but there’s no secret — it’s just good food,” Trejo stated. Trejo prides his restaurants on having something for everyone, because “when you’re in Hollywood, 10 people will go out to dinner, and one of them is vegan and another one doesn’t eat gluten.” While many of the recipes taste similar to the delicious dishes his mom made growing up, Trejo laughed that the items at his restaurants are much healthier, as he grew up in the “1950s when people put more lard in their food for flavor.” D e s t i n at i o n ▪ So u t h e r n c a l i fo r n i a

Allegiant passengers who prefer traveling to environmentally friendly destinations can feel good about visiting Sonoma County. Winegrowers there have committed to becoming a 100 percent sustainable winegrowing region by the end of the year, and the hospitality industry is following suit. On a visit, you can sip wines at sustainable wineries, dine in restaurants committed to using sustainably-grown produce and sleep in hotels with sustainable touches. WINERIES Since more than 95 percent of all vineyard acres in Sonoma County are currently certified sustainable (with more on the way), most wineries you’ll visit will already comply. A few go the extra mile, though. Jackson Family Wines, the winery behind Kendall-Jackson, La Crema and other incredible Sonoma labels, completes at least one land conservation or restoration project per year. jacksonfamilywines.com/wineries Silver Oak Cellars not only makes great wines but is the only winery in the world to have both of its production facilities (one in Sonoma, one in Napa) LEED Platinum Certified. In fact, the Sonoma facility is so dedicated to the environment it actually generates 105 percent of the energy it uses in a year and stores or sells the extra. silveroak.com

RESTAURANTS For every one acre of vineyards, Sonoma County has two acres dedicated to other agriculture, such as vegetables, apples and livestock, and like the winegrowers, many area farmers use sustainable practices to manage their farms. As a result, Sonoma County restaurants aspire to create sustainable-farm-to-table menus.
Whether you’re hungry for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you can find some of the county’s best dishes at The Spinster Sisters. A DAY TO REMEMBER when scholarship winners visit a l l e g i a n t h e a d q ua rt e r s By Andrew Porrello
In an effort to address a growing demand for aviation professionals in the coming years, we at Allegiant have set our sights on inspiring and preparing the next generation of young aviators through scholarships, mentorships and unique STEM-related opportunities. This year, Allegiant awarded its first-ever Careers in Aviation scholarships to five graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue further education in the aeronautical sciences. Industry experts project a worldwide demand for more than 800,000 pilots and 720,000 maintenance technicians over the next 20 years. In North America alone, more than 200,000 pilots and 180,000 maintenance technicians will be needed as the aviation career field enjoys unparalleled growth. The scholarships are designed to open the door for diverse groups who are often underrepresented in STEM industries. The money can be used by students to fund an aviation program at a college, university or professional school.
Photos courtesy of Allegiant
Three of the scholarship recipients — from the aviation program at the Cass County Career & Technical Education Center in Fargo, North Dakota — were treated to a day full of activities at Allegiant’s headquarters in Las Vegas. The event gave them a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to run an airline. Throughout the day, students toured Allegiant’s operations control center, inflight training center and even had the chance to take their spot in the captain’s seat and fly our state-of-the-art Airbus simulator. They also engaged with various leaders from multiple Allegiant departments. Among the group of leaders was Tracy Tulle, the first-ever aviation professional to manage flight operations and inflight services under one umbrella, Michael Wuerger, who oversees all aspects of Allegiant’s day-to-day operation
and is a certified pilot himself, and Maurice J. Gallagher, Jr., Allegiant chairman and CEO. The group shared anecdotes from their experience in the industry, learned more about the students’ interests and career aspirations and answered questions about what it’s like to work in the industry. Check out what the three students had to say about their experience at Allegiant headquarters and Allegiant’s inflight training center: “It’s been real cool in Las Vegas, I wasn’t expecting any of this for the Allegiant headquarters. They have a lot of good stuff here.” – Reece Wagner, aspiring air traffic controller “I honestly didn’t know there were this many careers in aviation. I knew there was more than the pilot but not quite this many. I still know I want to do something in aviation, [maybe] management.” – Kylee Aberle “Seeing Allegiant’s headquarters and training center has let me know that this isn’t just some pipe dream that I have.” – Seth Ouellette, aspiring commercial pilot We know that providing experiences like these are essential to ensuring the health of our industry. If you are aware of any aviation specific programs that could benefit from Allegiant’s support, please email corporate.giving@ allegiantair.com.

TRAVELER INFORMATION SAFETY FIRST
Customer safety is Allegiant ®’s first concern. Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following:
• Location of the nearest emergency exit • Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed • Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency SEAT BELTS
Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards.
Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.
PHOTOS & VIDEOS ONBOARD
The use of small cameras or mobile devices for photography and video is permitted onboard provided you keep the purpose of your photography and video to capturing personal events. Photographing or recording other customers or airline personnel without their express consent is prohibited. Airline personnel reserve the right to prohibit photos and videos onboard the aircraft if it becomes a disturbance to them or other passengers.
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
Allegiant is forbidden to serve alcoholic beverages to anyone who appears to be intoxicated or who has not yet reached the age of 21. It is a violation of federal regulations to drink alcoholic beverages during a flight unless they have been served by Allegiant personnel.
SMOKING
CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS
Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling
“THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT" from the manufacturer.
Smoking, the use of other tobacco products, e-cigarettes and other similar smoking devices are not permitted on any Allegiant flight. Federal law imposes fines of $1,000 for smoking and up to $2,000 for any attempt to disable an aircraft smoke detector.
