ONE HILARIOUS DOUBLEHEADER

There aren’t many shows in Las Vegas that can justify having ticket holders come back twice in the same week, but The Comedy Lineup at Harrah’s Las Vegas isn’t like most shows on the Strip. The 10 p.m. comedy show boasts two different headliners doing two totally different sets each week, with MTV funnyman and professional prankster Tom Green performing on Sunday and Monday night, and endearing everyman John Caparulo of “Chelsea Lately” fame taking the stage Thursday through Saturday night. Regardless of which comedian is performing, audiences are guaranteed a night of sidesplitting laughs. For tickets, visit caesars.com/harrahs-las-vegas/shows/the-comedy-lineup.

Tom Green is sure to have audiences in stitches during his stand-up set

TWO TIMES THE FUN

THE COMEDY LINEUP DELIVERS DOUBLE THE LAUGHS By Heather Turk

T

wo of stand-up comedy’s funniest comedians are headlining an allnew show in Las Vegas Allegiant passengers won’t want to miss.

“There isn’t really a connection between the two shows, which I think is good,” Green told Sunseeker. “People can come see us both and get a completely different experience.”

Playing inside the Harrah’s Showroom at Harrah’s Las Vegas, The Comedy Lineup features MTV funnyman Tom Green performing on Sunday and Monday at 10 p.m. and frequent “Chelsea Lately” roundtable commentator John Caparulo performing Thursday through Saturday at 10 p.m. Ticket holders can expect two very different comedy sets from the popular comedians, with Green talking about everything from his career to social media, and Caparulo musing on his life and being a new dad.

“Speaking from my end, and I think Tom would say this as well, this is the coolest, funniest comedy show on the Strip—especially as time goes on and I figure out how to be a good comedian,” Caparulo joked. Although Caparulo may joke about his comedy skills, both he and Green have a mutual respect for one another. Green said he’s a big fan of Caparulo’s work and is “super excited” to be sharing a room with him, while Caparulo admitted that he could never do the type of comedy Green originally became famous for. “I actually auditioned for ‘Punk’d’ back in the day but couldn’t do it,” Caparulo said. “You’re basically just starting a fire and sitting in the middle of it admiring your work—which is hilarious if you can do it—but if someone started crying in front of me I’d just be like, ‘Hey, this skit is over. Your dog is alive.’ Tom was always one of the better guys of his generation to do that [style of comedy], but I was really surprised to see just how good his stand-up act is, too.”

John Caparulo headlines The Comedy Lineup three nights a week 20

ENTERTAINMENT

Whereas having a residency in Las Vegas is a whole new experience for Caparulo, Green kicked off his own comedy residency at Bally’s Las Vegas late last year. Though he was happy with the gig, when the opportunity arose to move into a larger showroom, Green jumped at the chance.

John Caparulo reflects on being a new dad during his hilarious set

“The new showroom is more suited to what I do,” Green stated. “I do big physical movements in my comedy along with social commentary and jokes, so the large stage really lends itself to the physical comedy. Plus, I am taking advantage of the sound in the new room. It is the same theater where the legendary Righteous Brothers perform, so we have a great crew that knows music. I am already incorporating my guitar into the show and playing a couple of songs that people may recognize from ‘The Tom Green Show’ and my films.” Although Green continues to tour when he’s not at Harrah’s, since he’s working with the same crew each week in Las Vegas, he’s able to incorporate some music and other elements into the show that he can’t do on the road. He’s also hopeful to have some special guests pop in from time to time to surprise his fans in Las Vegas. “I ask my show business friends to stop by and sing a song with me whenever possible,” Green said. “We will probably start doing more of that soon now that the show is picking up steam.”

that experience and a few jokes,” Green said. “But I want everyone to have fun at my show and not feel like they are being preached to about the political situation. I think we have enough of that on TV today. The world needs more laughter.” For all Green and Caparulo really want to do with The Comedy Lineup is put on the funniest show possible. “I’m a very self-tormented artist,” Caparulo stated. “I care a lot about what I do, so I want to make sure everything is up to my standards. I’ll adjust [my act] each time I do it to make sure that ultimately, I’m doing it the right way. I want to make sure it’s well worth everyone’s money.” Tickets to The Comedy Lineup start at $36.99, plus tax and fees. For more information, visit caesars.com/harrahs-las-vegas/shows/thecomedy-lineup.

One thing audiences can expect from The Comedy Lineup whether Green or Caparulo is onstage, however, is that the show won’t be overtly political. “I make fun of both sides, as I don’t particularly have a very high opinion of each, but I’ll always feel out the room and make sure people are comfortable,” Caparulo said. “If they’re not, I’ll move on. It’s not worth burying the whole show over. Truthfully, though, I make fun of myself more than anybody.” “I know Donald Trump from when he fired me as a contestant on ‘The Celebrity Apprentice,’ so I may tell some stories about

The multimillion-dollar fountain system in “Le Rêve” has 16 fire-shooting devices

A DREAM MORE VIVID THAN EVER ‘LE RÊVE – THE DREAM’ UNDERGOES STUNNING REIMAGINING By Heather Turk

A

lready known for its ambitious acrobatics—including a jaw-dropping 80-foot high dive into a 1.1-milliongallon pool—and beautiful ballroom dancing numbers, “Le Rêve – The Dream” at Wynn Las Vegas recently completed a major reimagining that’s been two years in the making. The aquatic spectacular now features new costumes, lighting and choreography to complement an all-new score of 13 original songs by music director Benoit Jutras that catapults audiences into a surreal world where the show’s heroine, The Dreamer, is torn between the temptation of dark desire and idyllic love. “Over all of the years of change, the music is the one element that we had basically left untouched,” said Wynn Las Vegas’ general

manager of entertainment operations, Rick Gray. “By making the decision to reimagine the music, it necessitated the changes to costumes, lighting and some staging and choreography.” A production that’s no stranger to change, “Le Rêve” was a much “darker, more introspective presentation” when it premiered in 2005, noted Gray. Since then, the show has gradually evolved to present its story in a “simpler and more accessible context,” as illustrated by the recent decision to add lyrics by Emmy winner Maribeth Derry (“Fame L.A.”) to the show so that audiences could better follow and understand The Dreamer’s journey. While these changes no doubt intrigue audiences to come back to see the production, Gray believes the real reason behind the show’s success is the cast and crew’s dedication to stay true to the production’s original core values and put on a “robust and athletic” performance that has to be seen to be believed. “Certainly, the changes are something that keeps the show fresh,” Gray said. “However, just making changes in a show is, from my perspective, not enough to make it a must see. The true heart and soul of any production are the people who work onstage and behind the scenes to bring it to life on a daily basis. We all believe that every night is opening night and that each audience is the most important audience. We try never to take any performance for granted.”

Part one-man show, part unscripted stand-up, this hilarious production features one of the original “Outlaws of Comedy” discussing the downfalls of Sin City. From the never-ending lines to the frequent upcharges, the side splitting set covers both the expectations guests have when visiting Las Vegas as well as the

He writes the songs that make the whole world sing, and fans can once again sing along to Barry Manilow’s timeless tracks with the acclaimed singer-songwriter in Las Vegas. The former resident headliner kicked off an all-new production in May at the resort he called home from 2005 to 2009 when it was the Las Vegas Hilton. Performing a selection of his greatest hits, like “Copacabana (At the Copa)” and “Mandy,” Manilow returns to the stage July 19 through 21, and 26 through 28. Whether or not you consider yourself a fan of the pop icon, ticket holders are sure to be impressed by his showmanship during the 85-minute production, and might just leave a “Fanilow” by the time the concert is over. barrymanilow.com

“OPIUM’s” crazy crew of characters is sure to win over audiences

The creators of “Absinthe,” the Stripside acrobatic spectacular at Caesars Palace, take audiences on a galactic adventure with their latest adults-only production. Modeled loosely off of “Absinthe’s” success, the show mixes comedy with extraordinary acrobatic feats as guests step aboard a spaceship headed from Uranus to Las Vegas. Along the way, they’ll see a flamboyant juggler, a sassy sword swallower and an act that’s so bananas, ticket holders truly have to see it to get the full experience. Crew members will fall in love, a Chihuahua will steal the show and audiences will discover a production that’s so bizarre, it’s truly out of this world. spiegelworld.com ENTERTAINMENT

as Vegas may often be referred to as a Disneyland for adults, but the Entertainment Capital of the World has plenty of attractions to keep guests of all ages entertained. In fact, some of the Strip’s best shows know how to put a smile on people’s faces whether they’re eight or 88 years old.

JABBAWOCKEEZ’ “JREAMZ” AT MGM GRAND

This action-packed, medieval-themed dinner show is perfect for kids and kids at heart. Not only do guests get to eat a delicious three-course meal with their hands during the production, but there are also jousting knights, dancing maidens and plenty of pyrotechnics to enjoy. A staple of the Strip for almost 20 years, the show is now more kid-friendly than ever thanks to a minor script change that sees Prince Christopher becoming a Knight of the Round Table rather than replacing his father on the throne. Talk about a reason to shout, “Huzzah!” excalibur.com/en/entertainment/ tournament-of-kings.html

“MYSTÈRE” AT TREASURE ISLAND

A generational favorite, Cirque du Soleil’s first permanent production in Las Vegas continues to amaze audiences young and old. The whimsical show has undergone several changes over the past couple of years, including the addition of a breathtaking male-female duo straps act. Its popular planche act is now more thrilling than ever, too, thanks to an upgraded teeterboard apparatus that gives the artists the ability to jump up to 10 feet higher into the air. With its fanciful characters, beautiful music and jaw-dropping acrobatic feats—including a heart-pounding hand-to-hand number—the groundbreaking production still sets the bar high for acrobatic shows on the Strip. cirquedusoleil.com/mystere 26

Ten years may have passed since this hip-hop dance crew became reality show champions, but there’s no doubt they’re still “America’s Best Dance Crew.” Their hit Las Vegas show showcases the guys’ skillful dance moves while also highlighting their impeccable comedic timing—a feat made even more impressive by the fact they never utter a word during the production. The show also delivers an empowering message as audiences go on a journey with PJ, a Jabbawockee who finds himself stuck sleepwalking through life rather than living it. ARCHITECTURAL DIGESTION SAN FRANCISCAN RESTAURANTS WITH FANTASTIC FLARE By Sean Davies

C

elebrated designer Ken Fulk is known for his extravagant and often whimsical sensibilities, incorporating classical concepts into timeless decoration. These sensibilities have drawn clients from around the United States, and an award or two, but it’s his work in some of San Francisco’s finest food establishments that have garnered Fulk the most attention and acclaim.

LEO’S OYSTER BAR

Nominated for the James Beard Award for Best Designed Restaurant, the decor in Leo’s Oyster Bar creates a 1950s feel that Fulk

himself described “as if Don Draper and Betsy Bloomingdale had a baby.” Conceived with fellow designer Jon de la Cruz, the stunning pink onyx bar, bronze fixtures and floral accents are complemented by a menu of delectable dishes, a raw bar, cocktails and champagne in a back speakeasy known as The Hideaway. Dress to the nines like Draper, himself, and order the Mad Man cocktail with Rye, Smashed Citrus and Benedictine. You’ll fit right in. leossf.com

THE CAVALIER

MARLOWE

James Beard Award nominee Leo’s Oyster Bar 54

CALIFORNIA

Ken Fulk drew inspiration from classic butcher shops when designing the interior at this neighborhood bistro by husband and wife team Anna Weinberg and James Nicholas, along with chef/partner Jennifer Puccio. White hexagonal floor tiles, quilted stainless steel walls and drawings of animals marked for cuts help showcase the menu of NewAmerican Bistro favorites like Steak Tartare, Roasted Bone Marrow and Angus Ribeye. Brunch, served on Saturday and Sunday, includes favorites like Candied Bacon and the Smoked Salmon Bagel. marlowesf.com

This London inspired brasserie by James Beard Award nominated chef Jennifer Puccio is divided into several different spaces, each evoking a unique facet of British finery. The equestrian inspired Wine Stables are accented by gorgeous fox-hunting landscapes; the Rail Car, an extension of the main dining room, features button tufted red leather seats and intimate lighting; and Marianne’s, an intimate salon and club in the back of the restaurant, feels like the beautifully decorated hunting lodge of a Royal family member. While the menu is full of scrumptious selections, classic British fare like Fish and Chips or the Scotched Duck Egg suit the scene best. thecavaliersf.com

Grand Visit Phoenix: Oasis Water Park at the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa is a Valley favorite

SUMMER SPLASH RESORTS WITH POOLS THAT RIVAL WATER PARKS By Teresa Bitler

I

n Phoenix, it isn’t just the water parks that have water slides, lazy rivers and sandy beaches. Several hotels also offer their own aquatic experiences!

ARIZONA GRAND RESORT & SPA

Seven acres of pools, waterslides, splash pads, a wave pool and an active, rolling river make Oasis Water Park at the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa one of the Valley’s most popular family resorts. In fact, the complex is so impressive the Travel Channel actually listed it as one of the nation’s Top 10 Water Parks. Take advantage of summer packages to stay in the resort’s recently renovated suites and villas. arizonagrandresort.com

THE PHOENICIAN Photo of Arizona Grand Resort & Spa courtesy of Visit Phoenix; The Phoenician courtesy of The Phoenician

A mix of upscale and fun, The Phoenician boasts a three-tiered pool complex featuring

a hand-tiled mother of pearl swimming pool and adults-only hot tub as well as a 197-foot, twisting waterslide. But, the fun doesn’t stop there. New additions to the Kids Zone include a treehouse with a swaying bridge, a splash pad with spray guns and shooting water spouts. thephoenician.com

FAIRMONT SCOTTSDALE PRINCESS

Roughly 830 tons of white sand sets the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess’ pool scene apart from others. Sunset Beach, one of the resort’s six pools, features a sandy beach, oversized beach chairs and a giant splash pad. For water park-like fun, guests can shoot down one of two 200-foot-high, twisting waterslides. There’s also a large sandbox with Tonka trucks and beach toys for tots. scottsdaleprincess.com

JW MARRIOTT PHOENIX DESERT RIDGE RESORT & SPA

JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa invested $3.6 million to upgrade its pools, adding a new U-shaped bar and dining area, three fire pits, eight TVs and an enhanced sound system. But, there’s still plenty of water park fun, including the 1,600-foot lazy river and 89-foot serpentine water slide. PHOENIX BARBECUE UNDER-THE-RADAR BARBECUE JOINTS YOU SHOULD KNOW By Teresa Bitler

P

hoenix may not have a particular style of barbecue, but it has plenty of fingerlicking joints just the same. Several stand-outs even borrow from Southern and Midwestern traditions to create a style all their own.

JALAPENO BUCK’S

Located in Arizona’s oldest citrus grove, Jalapeno Buck’s serves some of the best smoked meats you’ll find anywhere in Arizona. The ribs are fall-of-the-bone tender, the pulled pork melt-in-your-mouth moist and the burnt

ends simply delicious. For something unique, try the surprisingly addictive PB&J Brisket Sandwich. Mexican-inspired offerings like the Red Chili Shredded Pork Burrito and Brisket Quesadilla round out the menu, which features coleslaw, macaroni salad, Mexican rice and refried beans for sides. Order a bag of chips—even the medium is huge—with the signature salsas to compliment your meal. Jalapeno Buck’s is open Tuesday through Saturday and stays open no later than 7 p.m. jalapenobucks.com

ANDREW’S BBQ

Ribs at Jalapeno Buck’s

Before firing up his smokers in Tempe, Andrew Vander Stoep honed his skills as an executive chef and as leader of national championship barbecue teams. Brisket, pork butts, chicken and St. Louis-style pork ribs are smoked that day, and it’s not unusual for much of the meat to sell out before the no-frills eatery closes at 2 p.m. If you have the chance, order the top-selling pulled pork, sold by the weight and served with a hamburger bun, or the daily special. For sides, you can’t go wrong with the Green Chile Mac and Cheese or Smokehouse BBQ Beans, which are cooked in the smoker. andrewsbbq.com

ellingham, Wash., a city of nearly 100,000 people, is home to lively arts, cultural and sports scenes. While live music opportunities in Bellingham aren’t quite on the scale of Seattle (90 miles south), the city offers a variety of venues to please most tastes.

All shows are free and open to all ages. honeymoonmeads.com

THE SHAKEDOWN

Open since 2011, the Shakedown (1212 N. State St.) is a mid-sized dedicated live music venue focused primarily on rock, but often hosts performers from other genres. According to owner/booker Hollie Huthman, the venue puts special emphasis on supporting local acts. I was traveling alone with a baby, which is always an adventure of its own and can make even a short 90-minute flight feel like days. Your crew was nothing short of awesome. The flight attendants were amazing as they were friendly and always cheerful. The pilots were informative and humorous as they made announcements and said farewells at the end of the flight. This experience will ensure that I always speak highly of Allegiant.

- Courtney M, Illinois

My fiancĂŠ and I have been dating long distance for 2 years and our relationship has been able to happen thanks to Allegiant. Your low prices and nonstop flights made our relationship possible. We joke that Allegiant sponsored our relationship! Thank you Allegiant for your travel options.

- Grace W, Kentucky

My wife and I recently traveled to Clearwater, Florida, and I have to say it was the most enjoyable flight we have taken in years. I am an Army veteran, and we were treated like VIPs – the entire crew thanked me for my service. We look forward to our next flight.

Patrick Jackson, Judi Jones, Bill Hays, Mohammed Sayed, Matthew Connor and Tom Hallmark were chosen company-wide to take part in the ceremony

MADE IN THE USA By Kerry McGee

n May, we took delivery of our first U.S.assembled A320 aircraft from the new Airbus facility in Mobile, Ala. To mark this important milestone for the company, six Allegiant team members from around the country were invited to the facility for a special hand-over ceremony. “Imagine my excitement when I learned that I was selected to attend the Airbus induction ceremony. I was thrilled, honored and thankful for the opportunity,” Judi Jones said. “I’ve worked in aviation over half my life, and I never could have imagined that I would be able to step on an aircraft fresh off the assembly line, especially one assembled in the U.S.A.!”

The group got to tour the final assembly line as well as our new A320 aircraft at the Airbus

facility before participating in a ceremony with executives from both companies. It was an invaluable experience for everyone involved. “It’s a great honor that I was chosen to attend and one that I hold in high regard,” Patrick Jackson said “The tour of the FAL [final assembly line] was incredible. Airbus has a world-class facility, and just like us, their top value is safety. “ This delivery marks another step toward our planned transition to an all-Airbus fleet by the end of 2018. Some of our previous aircraft have been produced in Airbus facilities in France and Germany. We are proud of the efforts of all our team members in all departments to make this transition possible.

Allegiant is proud to host Wings for Autism / Wings for All events throughout the country

ALLEGIANT HELPS MAKE AIR TRAVEL ACCESSIBLE FOR THOSE WITH AUTISM By Christoper Lewis

S

abrina Linker, 17, of Las Vegas doesn’t like to fly. The problem has nothing to do with the actual flying part. The problem is the airport - the size of the crowds, the unfamiliar smells and noises. Sabrina is autistic, which better explains why the thought of walking through an airport is daunting. “For people with autism like us, airports are too loud,” Sabrina said. “It sets us off. It get us into meltdowns, and it’s just too much information all at once.” The challenges of autism vary from person to person, as the spectrum is wide. But as a whole, it’s common for those who are autistic, or someone with a similar disability, to suffer from a sensitivity to loud noises, confined spaces, crowds and even just a break from the normal routine.

Photos courtesy of Allegiant

It’s a challenge not only for those who are autistic, but their families as well. Think about what it’s like today to make your way through an airport and TSA before finally boarding a plane, and it should be no surprise why many of those families just forgo air travel altogether.

more comfortable with airports and boarding, but it also allows family members to refine their plan for dealing with air travel. “We’re happy to help host Wings For All events across our network,” said Scott Sheldon, Allegiant executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer. “As a company, we are passionate about making air travel accessible to everyone - whether through affordable airfare or through training events, which help our travelers with various intellectual and developmental disabilities alleviate some of the stress that comes with flying.” Allegiant has hosted 19 Wings for Autism / Wings for All events in total and four more are scheduled for the rest of 2018. One event is enough to make a difference for Sabrina and those who participated. “Going step by step makes it easier,” she said. “When we were actually inside the plane, I noticed only one kid crying, but by the end, he calmed down. So this process, even as miniscule as it was, had a huge effect.”

That is why Allegiant partnered with The Arc, an organization advocating for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to host Wings for Autism® / Wings for All® events nationwide. Each event serves as a practice. Participants like Sabrina go to an airport and practice making their way through security and the terminal and even boarding a plane. Afterward, each person receives a pair of Allegiant wings. By better exposing someone with autism to the process, the event not only helps them get

Grand Canyon

No trip to Arizona is complete without visiting the Grand Canyon. This national park is considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world because of its jaw-dropping views. The South and West Rims are open year-round, each with unique views and its own character. The West Rim, which is actually part of the Hualapai Reservation and not part of Grand Canyon National Park, is widely known as the location of Skywalk at Eagle Point, a glass walkway 4,000 feet above the canyon. The South Rim offers iconic viewpoints like Pima Point, which is a great spot to view breathtaking scenes of the canyon below. nps.gov/grca/index.html

Please be advised that interference with the duties of crew members, including flight attendants, is a violation of federal laws. Our crews are thoroughly trained in all safety procedures. To ensure your own safety, we hope you take a moment to review the safety information card located in the seat pocket in front of you. Be aware of the following: • Location of the nearest emergency exit • Location of your emergency oxygen mask, if needed • Correct procedure for exiting the cabin in an emergency SEAT BELTS Seat belts must be fastened ANY TIME the seat belt sign is on, during taxi, takeoff and landing. Once the seat belt sign is turned off, you may walk around the cabin. Due to unexpected turbulence, it is strongly recommended that you keep your seat belt fastened any time while in your seat. Allegiant’s exit seating policy does not allow the use of seat belt extensions in the exit seats due to tripping hazards. CHILD RESTRAINT SEATS Federal Aviation Administration requires that all child restraint seats used on planes meet federal safety standards. Acceptable seats bear proper labeling “THIS RESTRAINT IS CERTIFIED FOR USE IN

MOTOR VEHICLES AND AIRCRAFT” from the manufacturer. Unlabeled seats or seats manufactured before Jan. 1, 1981, are not acceptable. Child restraint seats are to be placed into a window seat and secured with an aircraft seat belt.
