s a student at SUNY Canton, you’ll receive an education in a small, friendly atmosphere.

Academic Options SUNY Canton has more than 40 majors which lead to bachelor’s and associate degrees or one-year certificates, so there are plenty of options.

Mix, match, or climb up the ladder You can enroll for an associate degree and then decide to stay for a bachelor’s program without losing time or taking unnecessary courses. Most of our bachelor’s degrees have coinciding associate degrees. You also have the opportunity to combine two one-year certificates for an associate degree.

We’re rolling… SUNY Canton offers rolling admission, unless otherwise specified, meaning you can apply anytime throughout the year. However, prospective students are encouraged to apply before April 1 for the Fall Semester and November 1 for the Spring Semester. Admission into some of our popular programs is limited, so it’s best to apply early.

Low Costs, Great Value Paying for college is often a concern. The first step is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To get a FAFSA application go to www.fafsa.gov online. Prospective students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA by March 15.

Scholarships are available for eligible students. If eligible, you’ll be sent a scholarship form to complete and return to the Office of Admissions. You are encouraged to check out local scholarships in your community for additional funding. Most high school guidance offices will provide a list of available community scholarships in your area.

Areas of Study Science, Health, and Criminal Justice • We offer twelve majors in health and medical professions. • The Newell Veterinary Technology Center features the latest technology and veterinary equipment. • Our Nursing students have enjoyed 100% job placement in recent years. • Both Nursing and Dental Hygiene are two of our newest, most successful, and in-demand two- and four-year degrees. • Our Criminal Investigation curriculum is the only one of its kind in the eastern United States. Students solve crimes, intern at police stations, and partake in real-life situations. • Our four-year Funeral Services Administration major is the only one in the SUNY System.

Engineering Technology • Areas of study include energy, mechanical, powersports, computers, graphic design, automotive, and facilities. • In our Alternative and Renewable Energy Systems curriculum, students study concepts that augment or replace conventional energy systems. • New bachelor’s degrees offered in Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, and Civil & Environmental Technology.

Business and Liberal Arts • Business majors include Accounting, Business Administration, Management, and Finance. • Prepare for careers in teaching, law, journalism, public administration, human services, finance, insurance, physical therapy, sports, and other fields. • Our Early Childhood program offers personal interaction with faculty members and hands-on field experience. • Train in one of the fastest growing fields in the United States as part of our Emergency Management curriculum. • Graduate and start your career or continue to study in such disciplines as English, education, art, drama, music, communication, economics, history, psychology, sociology, and anthropology.

SUNY Canton OnLine (OL) is one of the most trusted online programs in the SUNY system, serving more than 5,000 students year-round as the College also offers a large selection of accelerated courses during summer and winter sessions. SUNY Canton OL delivers rigorous classes through its quality faculty and provides superior technical and student services support for students studying online.

International Programs At SUNY Canton, we understand the many benefits of providing students with the chance to actively engage in the international community. Students from Russia, Ukraine, Japan, China, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Sri Lanka have all studied at the College through our distance learning program or summer program. Because of technology and online platform opportunities, students can enjoy the convenience and flexibility to take classes from nearly anywhere with anyone around the world. SUNY Canton students are also afforded the opportunity to study abroad for a semester or a full year at the American University of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo.

Non-traditional Students SUNY Canton welcomes students of all ages. We recognize that non-traditional students bring a strong desire to succeed and interesting life experiences to the classroom. We’ve created some special services for our non-traditional students:

Veterans, Military, and Families—We Salute You Most recently, the College was named a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs and was a “Top Military friendly Colleges and Universities” honoree by Military Advanced Education magazine. The College now features a Veterans Lounge, a specific individual within the Admissions office to work with military personnel, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) training for the College’s counseling staff, and an oncampus Veteran’s Day ceremony. Military personnel have enrolled from all over the world, including online from Iraq and Afghanistan. The college also has a Veterans Association to connect students and alumni who serve or have served in the U.S. Armed   Forces. There are a number of military      programs designed to help finance         and assist service members           and their families.

• Commuter Lounge— While you’re on campus, you can take advantage of the commuter lounge with its lockers, microwave, refrigerator, computers, telephone, and comfortable furniture. • Housing— Non-traditional students can live on the Over-21 Floor in the residence halls. • Kiddie College— If you have young children (K-6), Kiddie College offers supervised children’s activities on campus during public school vacations. • Omega Alpha— Non-traditional students have a voice on campus through Omega Alpha, also known as the Commuter Club. It’s a great way to meet other commuters, organize events, or just speak up as a group.

The College’s new $45 million Roos House athletic facility recently opened and features a field house with basketball and tennis courts as well as an indoor track, a hockey rink, a fitness center, lap pool and much more. The facility provides a safe and friendly workout environment with a wide variety of weight lifting and aerobic workout options. Membership for full-time students is included as part of their college fees. • SUNY Canton installed a new $1.8 million lighted, synthetic turf field for men’s and women’s soccer, intramurals, and recreational play. • A beautiful new baseball diamond. • The men’s and women’s cross country teams as well as campus and community members now enjoy a brand new trail system along the Grasse River and through the woods behind campus. Great for hiking, jogging, biking, and walking, the trails complete a 10k loop.

Intramural Programs Intramurals offer students competitive, structured recreational activities that are both fun and social. Flag football, basketball, dodgeball, softball, volleyball, floor hockey, indoor soccer, badminton are just a few examples of leagues. A variety of other weekend tournaments and activities are also offered. Programs are subject to change throughout any given year.

Other Healthy Options Aerobics and yoga are just a few of the many fitness and lifestyle options at SUNY Canton. Take advantage of our convenient location near the Grasse River and Adirondack Mountains for even more outdoor activities. The list is endless!

New Grasse River Suites

Where Will You Live? Live and learn. SUNY Canton has five residence halls located along the Grasse River just steps away from academic buildings, Chaney Dining Center, and the Miller Campus Center. They’re also just a ten-minute walk over the footbridges to the village of Canton.

Lifestyle Options grasse River Suites: This brand new, state-of-the-art residence hall that offers apartment-style housing is for upperclassmen students only. Theme Housing, Coed Floors: Grasse River ­Community, which allows residents to bring smallcaged pets from home, and the Go Green! Environmental Awareness Floor for students interested in environmental issues both on and off campus. Non-Theme Housing: These rooms are suited best for students looking for a more traditional-styled college living experience. Suites, Coed Floor: Private, apartment-like living for four students.

hoices range from single sex wings to coed wings and from intensive quiet areas to more relaxed living atmospheres.

Rooms with Enclosed Bath, Coed Wing/Floor: These rooms will offer six students additional privacy with external doorways. They will live in three double rooms and share a private bathroom. Traditional Female Floor, Single-Sex Wing: This wing will be reserved for female students only. Intensive Quiet Atmosphere, Coed Wing: Quiet hours are continuously in effect Sunday through Thursday with a break from 4–8 p.m. Honors Floor, Coed Floor: Designed for student’s interested in academic honors programs and who excelled academically in high school. Vacation Housing, Coed Floor: This is the only residence hall that will be open during vacation periods.

Community Wing, Coed Wing: These floors are specifically designed for those over the age of 21 to live in an apartment-like atmosphere.

Dining On Campus

ou can get home-cooked meals at Chaney Dining Center. Students submit recipes from home that our chefs will make and serve. Home cooking never tasted so good!

Chaney Dining Center, conveniently located near the residence halls, serves meals seven days a week. Students living on campus have three options available—10 or 14 weekly meal plans or a block meal plan providing 150 meals per semester. Short on time? There are five other places on campus to grab a quick bite in the morning or a sandwich between classes. You can also pick up your favorite snacks at our campus store in the Miller Campus Center. No cash, no problem. Included with most meal plans is Roo Express Credit, which is a declining balance that may be used at any campus dining location and in some places downtown. Roo Express Credit and a Five-Meal Plan are available for commuter students.

Where’s the Fun? There’s more to college than just classes. In fact, a majority of your time will be spent outside the classroom. Balancing study with recreation is a challenge, but you’ll want to find time for both. With over 50 student-run clubs and organizations, you’re sure to find one that’s right for you. There’s a wide array of academic honor organizations, Greek organizations, service clubs, and curriculum clubs just waiting for you to join.

iller Campus Center is the hub of activity for our college community. It is home to our campus store, post office, health center, student government offices, gymnasium, auditorium, and snack bar.

Go white-water rafting with the Outing Club, travel to a NASCAR race with the Automotive Club, or play your instrument in a practice room. You can pursue all of your interests at SUNY Canton. You’ll find plenty of fun on-campus events to attend including raft races, Pack the Stands athletic events and contests, visits from the Last Comic Standing and ‘The Food Dude’ Kevin Roberts, Canton Idol, Family Weekend and dances. SUNY Canton also hosts guest speakers throughout the year who cover a variety of topics. One of the most recent speakers was Pulitzer-Prize winning columnist Eugene Robinson.
