Requirements for Admissions Freshmen Admission: A freshmen applicant is a student that has not previously enrolled as a matriculated student at a college. To be considered for admission at SUNY Canton, freshmen applicants should carry at least a C+ average in a college-preparatory program from high school. We will consider grades, courses completed, class rank, and trends in academic careers when reviewing an application for admission. The following distribution of classes is recommended: — 4 units of English — 4 units of Social Studies — 3 units of Math — 3 units of Science Some majors have other requirements, such as specific math and science classes, or observation
hours prior to enrolling. The Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs are selective admission. Students will be notified of the selective admission process after an application is filed. Students applying to a Certificate program will be admitted directly to the program if qualified. Associate and Bachelor’s degree applicants must declare a major by the end of the first semester or third semester, respectively. Admission to SUNY Canton is conditional upon successful completion of high school. SUNY Canton reserves the right to alter the admissions decision based on a review of final transcripts, if there is indication of unsatisfactory work or failure to complete an academic program.
Transfer Admission: A transfer student is a student that has been matriculated at a college prior to applying to
SUNY Canton. To be considered for admission to SUNY Canton as a transfer student, applicants are required to meet our re-registration requirements (page 39 of the Academic Catalog). Some majors have other requirements, such as a higher GPA, specific classes taken at the college level, or observation hours prior to enrolling. The Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs are selective admission. Students will be notified of the selective admission process after an application is filed. Admission to SUNY Canton is conditional upon successful completion of the candidate’s current academic program. SUNY Canton reserves the right to alter the admissions decision based on a review of final transcripts which indicate unsatisfactory work or failure to complete an academic program.
