SUNY Canton OnLine is one of the top Internet-based programs in the SUNY system and has approximately 500 courses offered annually. More than 5,000 students, both on- and off-campus, took at least one online course last year. The College also offers accelerated online courses during its summer and winter sessions.

Academic Options There are many unique options for success at SUNY Canton.

Mix, Match, or Climb up the Ladder You can enroll for an associate degree and then decide to stay for a bachelor’s program without losing time or taking unnecessary courses. Students can also combine two oneyear certificates to earn an associate degree.

We’re Rolling… The College offers rolling admission in certain programs. You can apply any time throughout the year. However, prospective students are strongly encouraged to apply before April 1 for the Fall Semester and Nov. 1 for the Spring Semester. Applications for selective programs are due February 1st.

International Popularity

The College has international students from 17 countries, including England, Russia, Japan, China, the Caribbean Islands, and nearby provinces of Canada. The multi-cultural environment adds to the overall student experience by providing a global perspective.

Study Abroad

You can opt to spend a summer abroad in Croatia or China. New this year, students can also spend a semester at the University of Greenwich in London, England.


Low Costs, Great Value Paying for college is often a concern. The first step is to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To get a FAFSA application go to www.fafsa.gov online. Prospective students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA by March 15.

Scholarships are available for eligible students. If eligible, you’ll be sent a scholarship form to complete and return to the Office of Admissions. You are encouraged to check out local scholarships in your community for additional funding. Most high school guidance offices will provide a list of available community scholarships in your area.

School of Science, Health, and • The Newell Veterinary Technology Center features the latest technology and veterinary equipment. • Our Nursing students have enjoyed 100% job placement in recent years. • Both Nursing and Dental Hygiene are two of our newest, most successful, and in-demand two- and four-year degrees. • Our Criminal Investigation curriculum is the only one of its kind in the eastern United States. Students solve crimes, intern at police stations, and partake in life-like scenarios. • Our four-year Funeral Services Administration major is the only one in the SUNY System. • The brand-new Homeland Security four-year program perfectly complements the existing Criminal Investigation and Law Enforcement Leadership programs and prepares graduates to work in private security firms, private industry, or a federal, state, or local criminal justice agencies.

Canino School of Engineering Technology • The School focuses on invention and innovation and offers research opportunities in applicable fields, like Electrical Technology and Mechanical Technology. • In the Alternative and Renewable Energy Systems program, students learn concepts that will become the future of sustainable energy production. • Graduates from the Mechanical Engineering Technology program

School of Business and • The School hosts the brand-new Applied Psychology Bachelor of Technology program. Where to Live? SUNY Canton has five residence halls located along the Grasse River and just steps away from all of the College’s buildings. You can also walk to downtown Canton in about 10 minutes by using the College’s two footbridges.

Lifestyle Options The Grasse River Suites is a brand-new, state of the art residence hall offering apartment-style suites with single rooms. The two- and four-bedroom suites are typically reserved for third- and fourth-year students.

Theme Housing: • The Pet Wing allows residents to bring small, caged pets from home. • A Gamer Floor for students with a special interest in video, board, and card games. • Team Roo! is a specially designated area for students playing sports, intramurals, or who are athletically inclined.

Other Housing Options: • Rooms With an Enclosed Bath offer six students in three rooms additional privacy. • The Traditional Female Floor is reserved for female students only. • An Intensive Quiet Wing with quiet hours in effect continuously Sunday through Thursday, with a break from 4 to 8 p.m. • The Honors Floor is designated for students interested in the academic honors program and who excelled academically in high School.

• A Community Wing has been specifically set aside for students over the age of 21 to live in an apartmentlike atmosphere


Dining On Campus

You can get home-cooked meals at Chaney Dining Center. Students submit recipes from home that our chefs will make and serve. Home cooking never tasted so good!

The College recently opened a Taco Bell and KFC Express in the heart of the Miller Campus Center. They are accompanied by North Country favorite Jreck’s Subs. Chaney Dining Center is conveniently located near the residence halls and serves great meals seven days a week. Meal plan options available include 10 or 14 weekly meals, or a block meal plan providing 150 meals a semester. No cash? No problem! Most meal plans include a Roo Express Credit, which is a declining balance that may be used at any of the eateries on campus. Both a Roo Express Credit and five-meal weekly plan are available for commuter students. Short on time? There are five other places to grab a quick bite to eat, including the Cyber Cafe, featuring Starbucks Coffee.

Where’s the Fun? There’s more to college than just classes. In fact, a majority of your time will be spent outside the classroom. Balancing study with recreation is a challenge, but you’ll want to find time for both. With over 50 student-run clubs and organizations, you’re sure to find one that’s right for you. There’s a wide array of academic honor organizations, Greek organizations, service clubs, and curriculum clubs just waiting for you to join.

Athletics and Fitness More Teams, More Athletes, More Fun Go Roos! SUNY Canton added four new sports teams last year and will add women’s ice hockey this year. The Roos will have nearly 300 athletes participating on 14 teams. SUNY Canton is a provisional member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)–Division III. The College plays the majority of its games against NCAA teams as well as teams from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and others. In addition to athletes recruited from high school, teams hold open tryouts for all interested new athletes. The College has a dedicated coaching and athletic staff who are focused on student academics and the long-term well being of student-athletes.

Welcome to Roos House SUNY Canton recently opened its new $46 million athletic facility, including: • A new ice arena. • A three-court field

house with both a hard wood floor and synthetic surfaces. • An indoor baseball/softball practice facility with year-round drop down batting cages. • A new 5,000 square-foot fitness center, featuring state-of-the-art aerobic equipment, free weights and weight machines. • A four-lane lap pool.

The outstanding facility also has new team locker rooms, dedicated study areas for student-athletes with wireless computer access, and a new office complex for athletic staff and coaches. Roos house also provides a variety of healthy lifestyle options including, yoga, Zumba, aerobics, spinning, and open skating time.

Intramurals are Huge Here Intramural programs continue to grow. They offer students competitive, structured recreational activities that are both fun and social. Flag football, basketball, dodgeball, softball, volleyball, floor hockey, indoor soccer, are just a few examples of existing activities available throughout the year.
