F OR I MMEDIATE P RESS R ELEASE 01-26-09 CONVICTIONS OBTAINED IN PROSTITUTION STING On December 19th, 2008 detectives from the Auburn Police Department and representatives from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted an undercover prostitution sting in Auburn. Several contacts were made to advertisements posted on Craigslist.org listed under Erotic Services. A Ms. Denica Richard age 24 from Biddeford was charged with Engaging in Prostitution and a Ms. Sonya Gerry age 37 from Saco was charged with Promotion of Prostitution. Ms. Richard admitted to investigators that she engages in sex for money and works for Ms. Gerry who sets up the appointments. Ms. Gerry admitted to investigators that she has several girls that work for her and that she receives a commission for every client. In addition to coming to local hotels, the ladies explained that they also purchase blocks of rooms in various hotels and they have the clients come to their location. On January 21, 2009 Ms. Richard pled guilty to Engaging in Prostitution and received a $750.00 fine. Ms. Gerry also pled guilty to Promotion of Prostitution and received a $1,500.00 fine. Due to an ongoing criminal investigation, the department has not been able to release this information until now.
