The story has moved on, and our purpose in the story is different than it was then Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker)

S

ince Disney released the first trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on October 19 last year, the anticipation was almost too much. Knowing that we had over a year to wait for the film’s actual release was the sweetest form of torture. Well now, some 14 months later, the movie is finally here! Although there have been all manner of trailers and TV spots released during this year, the actual details of the film remain vague. We know that The Force Awakens centres around the three new stars, Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and their battles against the First Order – an evil political organisation that has been created from the remnants of Darth Vader’s original Empire.

Ray and Finn discover a lightsaber that apparently belongs to Luke Skywalker – the one he lost in the battle with Darth Vader. It’s handed over to Leia and the pair are introduced to Han Solo, which then begins their quest to find the Jedi Master, who hasn’t been seen since the Battle of Endor 30 years ago. Leading the fight against the Resistance and heading up the First Order are Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis), General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) and our cover star Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). As the First Order rises in power, could the secret to their downfall rest with Luke, the last of the Jedi? And if you can't wait to see the film, why not join us for a special screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at one minute past midnight on the night of the 17th?

FILM TIMES

TRAILER TRAWL The best bits of the film’s trailer… 1 Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) addresses the Stormtroopers of the First Order. 2 And here his is in all his masked glory. 3 The old guard are back for The Force Awakens – including Leia and Han. 4 Finn (John Boyega) battles Kylo Ren in a snow-drizzled forest, but who will win? The dark side, or the light?

Arlo is an Apatosaurus, a gentle dinosaur who's the runt of the litter. His life changes dramatically though when he falls into the river and gets carried off on a new adventure. far though, and his obsession has horrifying consequences. The story of Victor Frankenstein is told through Igor’s perspective – who is played very much against type by a scientist who’s Frankenstein’s equal, rather than the shuffling simpleton of the previous Frankenstein films – and follows the story from his early friendship to the dramatic conclusion. In a story told with its tongue firmly placed in its cheek, Victor Frankenstein is a film that blends the dark, Gothic tones of the original story from Mary Shelley with a humorous and action-packed edge to give the film a contemporary feel.

FILM FACTS Three stars from the Sherlock TV show appear in this film: Mark Gatiss (Mycroft Holmes), Andrew Scott (Moriarty) and Louise Brealey (Molly Hooper). To connect Sherlock even more, the director, Paul McGuigan, has also directed four episodes of the show.

ove him or hate him, it’s impossible to deny the influence Steve Jobs has had on the modern world. This new film, inspired by the biography by Walter Isaacson and written by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, A Few Good Men), is made up of three acts – each one focusing on a different product launch (the original Macintosh, the NeXT computer and the iMac). Each act shows the behind-the-scenes arguments for each launch, highlighting Jobs’ demands for perfection and impatience with anyone who fails to meet his high standards. Michael Fassbender may not be as close a physical match to Jobs as Ashton Kutcher was in 2013’s Jobs, but he makes up for in personality and presence. With a sharp script and solid direction from Danny Boyle, there will never be a better retelling of the life of Steve Jobs than this one.

FILM FACTS Other actors linked to the role of Steve Jobs were Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise. The screenwriter of the film, Aaron Sorkin never actually met Steve Jobs in person, but did speak to him on the phone a few times.

ridge of Spies is the latest pairing of Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, and this one (their fourth working together) is based on an actual incident from 1960, during the time of the Cold War. Tom Hanks plays the role of lawyer James B. Donovan, who is entrusted with negotiating the release of a US pilot whose U2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union. The Russians want to exchange the pilot for a captive Soviet KGB spy held in custody in the United States, so Donovan will need to call on all his skills as a negotiator to secure the release of the US pilot, while at the same time placating the difficult Russians. As you'd expect from the supreme direction of Spielberg and the acting talents of leads Tom Hanks and stage actor Mark Rylance, Bridge of Spies is a thriller that keeps you hooked until the very final frame.

FILM FACTS This is the fourth time that Tom Hanks has worked with Steven Spielberg, having previously worked together on Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me If You Can (2002) and The Terminal (2004).

n an adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s seminal novel The Price of Salt, Carol follows two women from very different backgrounds who find themselves in an unexpected love affair in 1950s New York. A young woman in her 20s, Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), is a clerk working in a Manhattan department store and dreaming of a more fulfilling life when she meets Carol (Cate Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless marriage. As an immediate connection sparks between them, her husband (Kyle Chandler) begins to question her involvement with Therese. Rooney Mara is one of a few up-and-coming actors who dazzle in every role their placed in – her part as Tiger Lily in Pan was testament to this – and the pairing of her with Cate Blanchett is one that works brilliantly.

FILMFACTS Cate Blanchett is currently filming the role of the cunning snake Kaa in Andy Serkis’ Jungle Book: Origins. Carol is based on the novel The Price of Salt, which was written in 1952 by Patricia Highsmith under the pseudonym of Claire Morgan.

lthough they grew up together on the same South Boston streets, childhood friends John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) and James ‘Whitey’ Bulger (Johnny Depp) grew up into very different men. While Connolly became a major figure in the FBI’s Boston office, Whitey was the godfather of the local Irish mob. Set in the late 1970s, Black Mass is the story of what happened when the two men made a deal to trade secrets to take down Boston’s Italian Mafia. Not unsurprisingly though, the deal goes sour and events spiral our of control, leading to murders, drug dealing, racketeering indictments and, ultimately, Whitey making the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List. Fans of films like Goodfellas and American Gangster will find a lot to like here, especially the dramatic physical transformation of Johnny Depp into the violent criminal, Whitey.

From their daughter Eleanor (Olivia Wilde) bringing home a stranger so that she can pretend to her family that she has a boyfriend, to Charlotte’s sister Emma (Marisa Tomei) getting herself arrested for shoplifting, Sam and Charlotte begin to suspect that they may have had a better time if they’d had a quiet Christmas on their own. Slowly though, they manage to pull through the madness and discover that although they’re all very different and can frequently rub each other up the wrong way, the Cooper family bond is as strong as it has ever been.

et’s be honest here. Christmas may well be fun at times, but a lot of it can be stressful when you’re trying to organise everything and rush around buying last-minute presents. No-one knows this better than young Max (Emjay Anthony). Disillusioned, he turns his back on the most festive of seasons, but little does he know, this lack of Christmas spirit has unleashed the wrath of Krampus – a demonic force of ancient evil that stalks the same rooftops and chimneys on Christmas Eve as Father Christmas. Instead of delivering presents and good cheers though, Krampus is only intent on punishing all the non-believers. All hell breaks loose as beloved holiday icons take on a monstrous life of their own, laying siege to the fractured family’s home and forcing them to fight for each other if they hope to survive. After this, Christmas will never be the same again!

MODEL BEHAVIOUR

Derek’s back to prove there’s more to life than being really, really, ridiculously good looking

W

e have so much to thank the original Zoolander film for – not least the invention of ‘Blue Steel’, the definitive look for models the world over – and it still ranks very highly in most people’s lists of favourite films. The good news is that Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel McDonald (Owen Wilson) are heading

off the catwalks and back onto the big screen to prove that when it comes to movies about male models, there’s still nothing to touch them. Officially the world’s most beautiful people, Derek and Hansel are recruited into Interpol to go undercover and catch a gang that are murdering models – all of which die with Zoolander’s iconic

After the lukewarm response to the first two Tomb Raider films, it’s taken a while for another one to be considered, but Lara Croft is definitely heading back to the big screen – although Angelina Jolie is unlikely to play the lead again.

Ever played a game of Tetris and thought ‘there’s a movie in this’? Well it’s your lucky day, as we’ve just heard that there is indeed a (ahem) blockbusting film in the works. More news as soon as we get it.

Blue Steel look on their faces. Considering their combined IQ is still probably under 100, can the poutsome pair catch the murderers before they end up victims, too? The massive success of the first Zoolander film means that there’s no shortage of famous people willing to make cameos too, in what we are sure will be one of the funniest films of 2016.

Desperate to squeeze in another go as Ethan Hunt, Tom Cruise is rushing to get the next Mission: Impossible film out, which will hit the cinema in 2017. And Cruise is very keen for Rogue Nation’s writer and director Christopher McQuarrie to return, too.

GOLDEN GIRL

Eddie Redmayne discusses playing Lili Elbe in the stunning The Danish Girl

His understanding of The Danish Girl “This is a story of authenticity, identity and courage, but at its heart it is a love story. About the courage it takes to find, and be, yourself.” On playing the role of Lili Elbe “If you are lucky enough to be given the opportunity to play Lili Elbe and tell her story, you should be giving every ounce of yourself. It’s a great privilege, and a great responsibility. Acting is about striving for perfection with the acknowledgement that you’re never going to actually get it.”

Speaking about his co-star, Alicia Vikander “People often talk about Alicia in terms of her dance background, and her use of poise and posture, but she also has the capacity to tap emotions from somewhere that is so raw that it floors you.” Working with the transgender community “Every trans story is unique and individual; there is no one trans experience. But every single trans person I’ve met has talked about knowing, from their youth, that their assigned gender was different from their own identity.”

LIFE’S A BEACH

More Edgar Wright news: Alongside all of the other projects he’s working on, Wright has also just signed up to direct an animation film for DreamWorks. The script will be co-written by Wright and David Walliams.

‘Baywatch: The Movie’ is confirmed

I

t’s all the rage now to take old TV shows and make modern, slightly ironic movie versions of them. Following the success of the two Jump Street films, the next series to be brought kicking and screaming into the modern age is Baywatch. Although Baywatch was extremely cheesy, it was also hugely popular, running for 12 years between 1989 to 2001. Much like Jump Street, we’ve heard that the remake of Baywatch will be done with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek – so expect a script loaded with ironic references to the original series, and beautiful young people running down a beach in slow motion. So far, Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron have signed up to star, and the plot (such as it is) apparently sees the pair buddying up to prevent the beach they love and work on being destroyed by an evil oil tycoon. Also, we wouldn’t be surprised at all if some of the original stars – such as Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff – make at least a cameo appearance. The movie version of Baywatch may not be a contender when it comes to awards season, but we bet it’ll be a lot of fun.

Ridley Scott recently announced that his sequel to Prometheus is now going to be called Alien: Covenant, strengthening even further the bonds between the prequel series and the four Alien films. The film’s down for a release in October, 2017.

The sequel to The Huntsman (now officially called The Huntsman Winter’s War) recently released a teaser trailer online. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it scene, you can just make out Wells’ Bishop’s Palace.

THE LADY OF THE CAMELLIAS STARRING The Bolshoi Ballet CERT TBC RELEASE 6th Dec (3pm) LENGTH 185 minutes A young bourgeois, Armand Duval, falls in love with Marguerite Gautier, a courtesan celebrated by the Parisian high society. Despite her infidelity, Armand will do all he can to win this woman’s heart and convince her to leave her indulgent life. The Bolshoi breathes new life into John Neumeier’s tragic masterpiece, inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ novel and accompanied by Chopin’s exquisite score. HOT CHOCOLATE!

We have our very own award-winning chocolate producer, right here in Wells

S

tephanie Hiller is a massage therapist but also the owner of Mill Street Chocolate, an awardwinning company that produces some of the finest chocolate you’ll ever taste – and it’s made right here in Wells! Traditionally, chocolate isn’t seen as a healthy food choice, but Stephanie says that isn’t always true. “Normally the cacao beans are roasted at a high temperature which destroys a lot of the antioxidants,” she says. “We don’t think of chocolate as being a super food, but most of the commercial chocolate we buy is actually just sugar and milk. If you take the raw chocolate and mix it with just a small amount of sugar then you’ve actually got something that’s hugely beneficial for the body.” Stephanie started Mill Street Chocolate two years ago and runs the business from her address in Wells. All of her bars are either 70, 80 or 100% pure chocolate, and she has a range of six different flavours – and after being lucky enough to pretty much try them all, we’re happy to say that they’re all delicious.

Despite only being up and running for a couple of years, Mill Street Chocolate can already call itself an award-winning food producer. Stephanie recently entered three of her bars into the Great Taste Awards – an event that attracts around 10,000 entries, mostly focussing on smaller producers – and won a total of three awards, one for each of her bars.

Attention to detail The secret to Mill Street Chocolate’s success is the care and attention that goes into each stage of the production. Stephanie is constantly thinking of new flavour ideas, and walks around with a notepad so that she can quickly write down any new combinations she dreams up. Wherever possible, all the ingredients are organic and everything is made completely from scratch. If you want to try the chocolate for yourself, then we recommend that you head to either www. facebook.com/MillStreetChocolate or www. millstreetchocolate.co.uk, where you will find out where Stephanie is going to be displaying her chocolate next. You can also order online, and there’s still time to get an order in for a Christmas delivery, as long as you get it in before December 14. We suggest you try Mill Street Chocolate for yourself as soon as possible. We promise you won’t regret it.

FILM TALK

Wells Trading Post’s vintage and fashion expert Lois Wickett goes under the movie spotlight this month…

Tell us about one of your favourite films Gentlemen Prefer Blondes has got to be one of my favourite films. Released in 1953, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell have a wardrobe to envy. Marilyn Monroe’s showstopping leopard print cape and muff set is a recent favourite of mine – so much so I am lucky enough to now have my own! What film are you looking forward to? The Dressmaker, featuring Kate Winslet and set in 1950’s Australia, looks to be tantalising viewing for a 1950s fashion enthusiast like myself! What’s the best bit of your job? You never know what each day will bring, from a 1920’s Sautoir necklace to a 1950’s circle skirt discovered in a barn! The surprise is just the beginning, as it’s the stories that surround the items that is the best bit. Who would play you in your biopic? I have been told I resemble Rita Hayworth but sadly she’s no longer with us, so perhaps Paloma Faith as she sure does rock her retro and eccentric style.
