Aerobic exercise is physical exercise of relatively low intensity that depends primarily on the aerobic energy-generating process. Aerobic literally means "living in air", and refers to the use of oxygen to adequately meet energy demands during exercise via aerobic metabolism. Generally, light-to-moderate intensity activities that are sufficiently supported by aerobic metabolism can be performed for extended periods of time.

The beat is the basic unit of time in music. In popular use, the beat can refer to a variety of related concepts including: tempo, meter, rhythm and grove. In music that progresses regularly in 4/4 time, counted as "1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 ...", or “1 2 3 4, 5 6 7 8 “ the first beat of the bar (down-beat) is usually the strongest accent in the melody and the likeliest place for a chord change, the third is the next strongest: these are "on" beats. The second and fourth are weaker - the "off-beats". 8 beats are one phrase.

Aerobic dance could possibly be classified into high-impact and lowimpact, step aerobics. High impact exercises, would involve intensive exercises such as jumping actions synchronized with the music.
