The 1st «Logistics & Transports Thessaloniki Expo» is an excellent opportunity to highlight the prospects that are being formed in order to establish Thessaloniki as an international «logistics hub».
The city’s port is a central transit point for freight loads directed both towards the Balkans and towards Central Europe.
Thus, Thessaloniki is being upgraded to a key hub in the context of the new European rail freight corridors, namely the Baltic – Black Sea – Aegean and the Western Balkans – Eastern Mediterranean corridor.
In fact, given Greece’s participation in the search for alternative routes for the export of Ukrainian grain, and the effort to connect India with Europe, the port’s cargo activity becomes even more dynamic.
The Government’s strategic goal is to turn our country into the main gateway for freight shipments towards Europe.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport supports this national mission in many fronts.
It is updating and expanding the interconnection of major ports and Industrial Zones with the road and rail networks, while leading international initiatives that open up new trade corridors.

Thessaloniki has always attracted economic and commercial activity, constituting a hub of development and connectivity for Northern Greece and South East Europe, as well as a bridge of friendship, understanding and cooperation between peoples. It is therefore quite fitting that the 1st Logistics & Transports Thessaloniki Expo is held in the premises of TIF (Thessaloniki International Fair) with the participation of major companies from the domestic and international market ,making Thessaloniki the focal point of export trade cooperation with this the new exhibition event.
The flagship infrastructure projects that are being implemented and the extroversion policies adopted by the government contribute to this picture; combined, they upgrade Thessaloniki to a strategic European trade gateway.
This title is not arbitrary: it is confirmed by a series of interventions, since our port is being upgraded and the railway network is preparing to connect the ports of Alexandroupolis and Thessaloniki with those of Ruse in Bulgaria and Kostanja in Romania, as well as with Moldova and Ukraine, strengthening transport connections and offering quality and reliable freight transport services. At the same time, the logistics sector is developing unique potential in Macedonia, as the updated master plan of the Thessaloniki Port Authority provides for the operation of a logistics center at Pier 6, while the tender for the conversion of the Gonos former army camp in western Thessaloniki into a logistics center is progressing, and the construction of the largest logistics center in Northern Greece will start in 2024 in Agios Athanasios region.
With the motto «power in cooperation» and Thessaloniki as our starting point, we are enriching the supply chain and interconnecting Europe, opening new trade routes that unite societies and economies, expand exports entrepreneurship and contribute to the economic development of the Balkan region.
