He who makes His home beneath the tree wearing a loincloth; who removes the fear of the helpless and destroys the terrors of life;

Compassionate Siva; giver of the boon of fearlessness; subduer of Madana, the god of passion; blissful; ever auspicious

Shiva the supreme Lord, the embodiment of all attributes and also beyond all attributes, the great Master upon whom the blue hue of poison appears as an ornament, He who conquered the unconquerable demon in his city (where he was invincible to other gods) - I bow down to Him. Shiva, the Kalpataru (the wish fulfilling tree).

Vidhi Vishnushirodhrita paadayugam

Shiva on whose left the daughter of the Himalayas always is, He whose form outshines millions of moons, whose very feet Brahma and Vishnu press to their heads - I bow down to Him, Shiva, the Kalpataru (the wish fulfilling tree).

Shiva whose head is crowned by the hare -marked moon, around whose waist is wrapped a beautiful deerskin, whose matted locks are washed by the heavenly river (the Ganga) - I bow down to Him, Shiva, the Kalpataru (the wish fulfilling tree).

Mukhapadma paraajita kotividhum

Vidhukhanda - sumandita - bhaatatatam

Shiva whose face is beautiful, who has three eyes, whose lotus face outshines millions of moons, whose brow is adorned by the crescent moon - I bow down to Him, Shiva the Kalpataru (the wish fulfilling tree).

Pramathaadhipa -sevaka -ranjanakam

Shiva who is the first Guru, who always is attended by Vrisharaja (the chief of the bulls), who swallowed and withstood deadly poison, who holds a boar’s horn, Shiva who gives happiness to His worshippers - I bow down to Him. Shiva, the Kalpataru (the wish fulfilling tree).

Shiva who is the creator, sustainer, and destroyer of the Universe, He whose feet shine like gems upon the head of Indra (the Lord of heavens), He who is dear to people, the supreme goal of saints and sages -I bow down to Him. Shiva, the Kalpataru (the wish fulfilling tree).

Consort of Uma, Shankara, we bow to you; we bow to you. Mother of the Universe, Shankara, we bow to you both; we bow to you both. Compassionate Shankara, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. Lord of kedara, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you.

Dushta-shikshita Shiva namo namo, Sankata - hara Shiva namo namo Sharanaashrita Shiva namo namo, Abhaya-daata Shiva namo namo

The chastiser of the wicked, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. The reliever of our suffering Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. The refuge of those who surrender, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. The bestower of fearlessness, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you.

Vishva-paalaka Shiva namo namo,

Moksa - daayaka Shiva namo namo

Parama- satya Shiva namo namo,

Parama - Guru Shiva namo namo

The protector of the Universe, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. The granter of liberation Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. The absolute Truth, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. The supreme Guru, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you.

Bhakta- poojita Shiva namo namo,

Shree Ramakrishna Shiva namo namo

Paramaananda Shiva namo namo,

Shree- Cidaananda Shiva namo namo

You whom devotees adore, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. You who are dear to Shree Ramakrishna, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you. You, the embodiment of supreme bliss Siva, we bow to you; we bow to you. You are dear to Shree Chidananda, Shiva, we bow to you; we bow to you.

TATHAIYAA TATHAIYAA

Taathaiyaa taathaiyaa naache bholaa, bam baba baaje gala

Taathaiyaa, taathaiyaa! Shiva dances stiking his cheeks, bom baba!

Dimi dimi dimi damaru baaje, duliche kapaala maala

Dimi dimi dimi! Sounds His tabor; a garland of skulls sways from His neck.

Garaje Gangaa jataamaajhe, ugare anala trishoola raaje

In His matted locks the Ganga roars; fire shoots from His mighty trident!

Dhak dhak dhak mouli-bandha, jwale shashaanka bhaala

Around His waist, a serpent glitters and on His brow, the moon is shining!

HARA HARA HARA BHOOTANAATHA

Hara Hara hara Boota-naatha Pashupati Yogeeshvara Mahaadeva Shiva pinaaka-paani

Hara, Hara, Hara is Lord of the Universe, Lord of all beings, Master of yogis, God of gods. He holds the bow pinaaka

Oordhva jvalata jataa-jaala, naacata Vyoma-kesha bhaala Saptabhuvana dharata taala, talmala avanee

As He dances, His matted locks rise like a flame; His disheveled forelock covers the entire sky; the seven worlds sway in rhythm, while the earth below is quaking, trembling, shaking wildly.

JAYA SHIVA SHANKARA HARA TRIPURAARI

Jaya Shiva Shankara Hara Tripuraari, Paashee pashupati pinaaka-dhaari,

Shire jataajoota kanthe kaalakoota, Saadhaka-jana-gana- maanasa-vihaaree

Victory to Shiva, Shankara, Hara - slayer of Tripura; victory to Pashupati who holds a bow and a rope; with malted locks on His head and deadly poison in His throat, He delights the hearts of aspirants.

Triloka-paalaka triloka naashaka, Paraatpara Prabhu moksha-vidhaayaka, Karunaa nayane hera bhakata-jane, Layechi sharana carane tomaari

Victory to you, Supreme Lord, protector and destroyer of the three worlds, deliverer of liberation. Look upon us with compassion; we have taken refuge at Your feet.

JAYA SHANKARA PARVATEEPATE

Jaya shankara Paarvateepate, mrida shambho shashikhandamandane, Madanaantaka bhakta-vatsala priya kailaasa dayaa-sudhaaambudhe

Victory, O Shiva-consort of Parvati; gracious one, granter of prosperity who is adorned with the crescent moon, who destroyed Madana (the deity of passion), who is full of tender of love for his devotees; who loves his abode Kailasa, whose compassion is like an ocean of nectar.

Sadupaaya kathaava-pandito hridaye duhkha-sharena khanditah, Shashikhanda shikhanda mandanam, Sharanam yaami sharanyameeshvaram

You show the sure way to ignorant ones whose hearts are pierced by misery; you whose matted locks are adorned by the crescent moon are the ultimate refuge.

Tvadrisham vidadhaami kinkaro, kvanu-tishthaami katham bhayaakulah, Kvanu-tishthasi raksha raksha maam, ayi shambho sharanaagatosmi te

Where else but in you can I, who am helpless find refuge? Whom else can I follow, frightened as I am? Where are you, O Shiva? Protect me, protect me! I surrender to you!

Shiva sarvaga sharva sharmada, pranato deva dayaam kurushva me, Nama Eeshvaranaatha dikpate, punarevesha namo namostu te

O Shiva, you are omniscient, auspicious, and ever ready to bless. I bow and pray to you. O Lord of the Universe! Be merciful. I bow down to you. I bow down to you again and again.

Sharanam tarunendu-shekharah, sharanam me Giriraajakanyakaa, Sharanam punareva taavubhou, sharanam naanyadupaimi daivatam

The one who is adorned with the crescent moon is my refuge!

The one who is the consort of Girija is my refuge. Both are my refuge. I shall surrender to none but them.

Yogaasane mahaadhyaane, magna yogeevara

Ananta tushaare jeno, ananta shekhara

The great yogi, seated in yoga posture is absorbed in deep meditation amidst endless snowy peaks.

Pralaya neerava maaze, ekaakee purusha raaje

Bhaye agni bhasma maaze, dhaake kalevara

In silence of cosmic dissolution, the Supreme Being shines all alone; fire have in fear amidst ashes.

Shishu shashee naahi aar, andhakaara nirakaara

Eka naa-e du-e aar, prakriti nithara

Even the crescent moon is goon, formless darkness is left. Only one exists. Two; Primordial Power itself stands still.

Kaala-baddha vartamaane, vyoma-kesha vyoma paane nitya satya poorna jnaane, poorna maheshwara

Time has stopped; space has withdrawn into itself. Shiva is eternal Truth Knowledge, the Absolute.

SHIVA SHIVA BHAVA BHAVA

Shiva Shiva bhava bhava sharanam mama bhavatu sadaa tava smaranam

O Shiva, Shiva, you are my refuge; may I think of you always;

Gangaadhara Candracooda jagan - mangala vishvaneeda

Bearer of the Ganga and the moon, your crest jewel; worldbenefactor who abides in the Universe

Kailaasaacalavaasa Shiva, kara purahara daradaasa

Dweller upon Mount Kailas; auspicious one; slayer of Pura; you whose laughter is terrible;

Bhasmoddhoolita deha Shambho, parama - purusha Vrisha - vaaha

You who are smeared with ashes; granter of prosperity; supreme Being whose vehicle is the bull;

Pancaanana phani -bhoosha Shiva, parama - purusha muni - vesha

Five - faced Shiva adorned with serpents; great God and saint;

Aananda- natana- vilola sacchid - aananda vigalita khela

Sat- Chid-ananda who dances happily with disheveled hair;

Nava- vyaakarana svabhaava, Shiva Naaraayana - teertha deva

Whose nature is to quickly answer prayers; Shiva, Narayanateertha’s chosen God.

SHIVA SHIVA SHIVA

Shiva Shiva Shiva naama sumara nara, Sakala manoratha pooranakaaree

Shiva fulfills all your heart’s desires; chant His name - Shiva, Shiva, Shiva, Shiva.

Raavana naama liyo dridha manase, Salala deva aajnaa siradhaaree

Ravana chanted His Divine Name with steadfast devotion; then all the gods were ready to do his bidding.

Nandee - gana jaba sumarana keeno, Kaalapaasha tatkaala nivaaree

Nandee and others concentrated on His Name; they were at once treed from the noose of Time by Him.

Upamanyu muni kare tapasyaa, Doodha - samudra kiyo badabhaaree

The sage Upamanyu pleased Shiva by doing tapas and was blessed with great prosperity.

Brahmaananda yahee vara maange, Bhakti- daana deeje Tripuraaree

Brahmananda asks only this boon - O slayer of the demon Tripura! Please grant me steadfast devotion.

SHIVA NINNA PAADAVA

Shiva ninna paadava nambide, enna kaayuva bhaaravu nambide

O Shiva! I have surrendered my whole self; now, I tell you, the burden of protecting me us yours.

Naanemba mamakaaradine, naanaa janmava triugi naa bande,Gati yaavudenaginnu toradu munde, Deena-rakshakanayyo baarayya Tande

My, me and mine attitude has caused me to go through endless births. At last I, have turned to you. I cannot see my way any further. O Father, protector of the lowly, please come!

Bakutara banta neenante, Munna Baanana baagila kaayadavanante, Ohaala-lochana ninna bhajisida Upamnyu, Ksheera-vaaridhyittu salahide Tande

They say that you are always at the service of the devotees. Long ago you guarded Bana’s door, they say. When Upamanyu worshipped you, O Shiva, you saved him by giving him plenty of milk.

GAURAANGA ARDHAANGA

Gauraanga Ardhaanga Hanga-tarange

Yogee mahaa-yoga kaa roopa raaje

O yogi, how magnificently you have united within yourself fair Gauri and the waves of the Ganges.

Baagha-chaala munda-maala Shashi-bhaala kara-taala Taa dek dimi dimika dimi damaru baaje

You are adorned with tiger skin, a garland of skulls, the moon on your head and cymbals in your hand; Taa! dek! Dim! Dimika! Dimi! Booms your damaru.

Ambara baaghaambara digambara jataa-joota

Phani-dhara bhujangesha anga-vibhooti chaaje

You are naked and also clothed in a tiger skin; O Lord of serpents, with matted locks, you are bedecked with snakes and ashes.

Vaanee vilaasa tooyaa Dhaataa Vidhaataa

Jaataa sakala duhkha Sadaashiva Viraaje

You spot with sound and water; you create and sustain; in your eternally auspicious presence all misery vanishes.

CHANDRACHUDA SHIVA

Chandrachuda Shiva shankara - Paarvati, Ramana ninage namo namo namo

We bow down again and again to you, Shivashankara, the consort of Parvati with the moon as your crest.

Sundara mriga - dhara pinaaka dhanukara, Gangaa - shira gaja - carmaambara - dhara

You are clad beautifully in deer and elephant skin with the Ganga on your head; You hold the bow Pinaka.

Koralali bhasma rudraakshi maale, Dharishida parama Vaishnava neene

With your neck smeared with ashes and your garland to rudraksha beads, you are the best Vaishnava.

Garuga-gamana Shree Purandara Vithalana Praana-priyane namo namo

You are beloved by Lord Vishnu who rides on the Garuda; we bow to you again and again.

Pralay naacan naacale jakhon aapana bhule, He Nataraaj Naataraaj, jataara baandhana padala khule

When you danced the dance of destruction forgetful of self, O Shiva, the Lord of dancers, Your matted locks became disheveled

Jannhnavee taa-e muktadhaaraay, unmaadinee dishaa haaraay sangeete taar tarangadal uthalo dule

Because of this, the free-flowing Ganges became excited, bewildered, and lost direction. Her waves rose, swinging musically.

Raveer aalo saaraa dilo aakashapaare, Suniye dilo abhayavaanee gharchaadaa re, Apana srote apani maate, saathi holo apana saathe, Sabhaaraase sabpelo taar kule kule

The light of the sun then, across the horizon, responded with an assurance of safety to the homeless. The Ganges absorbed in

her flow, became her own companion; everything she had lost, she found again, on her own shores.

Damaru Hara kare baaje baaje

Lord Shiva is playing his drum

Trishoola-dhara-anga bhasma bhooshana, Vyaala-maalaa gale viraaje

Holding the trident. His body is bedecked with ashes, his neck with a garland of serpents.

Pancha-vadana pinaaka dhara Shiva

Vrushabha-vaahana boota-naaatha

Runda munda gale viraajita

Ajara amara digambara re

The Lord with five heads who holds the great bow and has the bull as his carrier, the Lord of spirits with a necklace of bones and skulls, is ageless, naked, immortal.

Bom Bom Bom Bom Hara Hara

Vrishabha-vaahana vishaala -vadana

Bam, bam,bam! - Shiva dances.

Vrishabha-vaahana vishaala -vadana

Tripura-naashana Ishwara

He of broad face whose vehicle is the bull, Lord Ishwara, destroyer of the demon Tripura.

Paada kamale shobhe shata-dala

Tri-nayane aache shobhita bhaala

Gale vilambita haadamaala

Jaya jaya Shiva Shankara

His three eyes shine. The hundred –petalled lotus lies resplendent at His feet, and a garland of shells sways from His neck. Victory to Shiva! Victory to Shankara!

JAGAVA SUTTIRUVUDU

Jagava suttiruvudu ninna maaye, Nina suttiruvu- denna- mana nodaa

The world has been encircled by your Maya- but look, my mind has encircled you.

Kariyu kannadi- yolagadagi- dantayya, Neenennoladagihe Koodalasangayya

Even as an elephant is reflected in a mirror, so you, O Lord Shiva! are in me.

MADAKEYA MADUVARE

Madakeya Maaduvare manne modalu

Todigeya maaduvare hone modalu

Shiva-patha-varivade Guru-patha modalu

Koodalasangama-devara-narivade

Sharanara sangave modalu

To make a pot, clay must be brought.

To make an ornament gold must be brought.

To know Shiva’s path, the Guru must be approached.

To have the vision of Lord Shiva.

Holy company must be sought.

CAKORANGE CANDRAMANA

Cakorange Candramana belagina cinte Ambujake Bhaanuvina udayada cinte

The Chakora bird longs for the moonlight. The lotus longs for the sunrise

Bhramarange parimalada bandumba cinte Emage namma Kodalasangama-devara cinte

The bee longs for the honey’s fragrance. Even so, we long for our Lord, Koodala-sangama (Shiva).

Tande neenu taayi neenu

TANDE NEENU

You are my father, you are my mother

Bandhu neenu balaga neenu, Neenallade mattaarayyaa

You are my friend, you are my kinsmen, and I have no one but you.

Koodala-sangama-devaa, Haalaladdu neeraladdu

O Lord Shiva! Do with me as you will.

PARACINTE EMAGE

Para-cinte emage eke ayyaa, Emmaya cinte emage saalade

Why should we mind others’ concerns; are our own not sufficient?

Koodalasanganu olivano oliyano, Emba cinte haasaluntu hodeyalunto

Whether Lord Shiva will yield to us or not is concern enoughwith some to spare.

ENAGINTA KRIYARILLAIYYAA

Enaginta kiriyarillattaa

Shiva-bhaktariginta hiriyarillayyaa

Nimma paada-saakshi enage enna manada saakshiyayaa

Koodala-sangamadevaa enagide divya

There is no one less than I.

There are no people greater than Shiva’s devotees. Thy feet bear witness to this fact. My mind attests to it.

O! Lord Kudala-sangama (Shiva), this is marvelous to me.

NAMBARU NECCARU

Nambaru neccaru baride karevaru, nambalariyade lokada manujaru, nambi karedode o ennane Shiva

Not having faith in Him, people of the world neither believe nor trust; they beseech Him in vain. If they called Him with faith, would Shiva not respond?

Nambade neccade baride karevara Komba metti koogenda, Koodalasangamadeva

Tie down, such disbelievers! Shout at them! So, says Lord Shiva.
