Plans have been lodged for multi-million dollar development in Portarlington Lascaris, who has designed more than 16 petrol stations and hundreds of warehouse developments, said he expected the permit process would take three to five months. He said he was also determined to give local tradespeople an opportunity to quote on construction, providing employment for the Bellarine even before the complex opened. PBDA president, John Rae, said the association had been impressed with the proposal. Rae said the plan to include a petrol station could also offer an ideal alternative to the community fuel initiative which was being investigated to bring petrol to the town.

A PROPOSED multi-million dollar industrial development at Portarlington has the potential to provide the town with employment, business growth opportunities – and a petrol station. Lascaris Designs director, John Lascaris, has lodged plans with the City of Greater Geelong and presented a detailed design proposal to Portarlington Business Development Association (PBDA) members last week. Lascaris said he had purchased a threeacre site fronting Portarlington-Queenscliff

and Tower roads and hoped to build 29 warehouses, a petrol station, a convenience store and carwash facilities. Lascaris said the warehouses would range in size from 110 to 400 square metres which could accommodate trades, fabricators, fishing and mussel industries, with the smaller sheds designed for boat, caravan or other storage. “The research we’ve done in the area has identified Portarlington is in great need of a petrol station and carwash and there is a need for good quality warehousing to be marketed to local businesses,” he said. The carwash would have five do-it-
