Barwon Heads Fine Music Society’s Carnival of Music was a great success, with sold-out performances and rave reviews. The festival programme ran from last Friday to Sunday, and included a presentation by the Australian Youth Choir.
After their prolific development of the local tourism industry, Bellarine Tourism’s chairman and vice-chairman will continue to set the bar high
BY ALISON MARTIN WITH Bellarine Taste Trail’s website about to be launched and other major tourism projects under way, Hugo Armstrong is enthusiastic about his reelection as Bellarine Tourism chairman. Armstrong was re-elected as the 2010-2011 chairman of the local tourism association, which has been instrumental in raising and promoting the peninsula’s profile as one of Victoria’s top holiday destinations. “The resounding success of the taste trail has been amazing; it’s our hook and the launch of the taste trail website is not far away,” he said.

“So while we’ve had an exciting 12 months (2009-2010), I’m really keen to see these things through to get them signed off over the year ahead. “The Bellarine was going under the radar and we have strong competitors: the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley; but we’re getting there and the taste trail has been the hero. “So I’m really happy to be doing it again and while I’m still doing the Blues Train, it’s really good to be involved at a local level.” Bellarine Tourism has also worked closely with Tourism Geelong and Central Geelong Marketing to further expand on, develop and roll out a professional development programme to assist
business operators in the Geelong and Bellarine region to prosper in the face of today’s economic challenges. “The aim of this comprehensive programme is to assist like-minded businesses to achieve professionalism and excellence in their own business; to meet the needs of the wider industry; provide tools to implement learnings and connect businesses with one another,” Armstrong said. “It is an exciting programme which we are proud to offer all businesses, both members and nonmembers of our association.” The new Board of Bellarine Tourism also includes Lorraine Golightly from Big 4 Beacon Resort, who
has been re-elected as vice-chairman, Terry Philp is treasurer and members include Tuckerberry Hill’s David Lean, McAdams Lane Winery’s Peter Slattery, Lin Bell from Bells by the Beach Holiday House, David Littleton from Seahaven Village, Graham Christie from Lonsdale Golf Club and Emma Bourke from Queenscliff Tourist Parks. “We are really thrilled with the new board moving forward. We feel there is great representation from across the Bellarine which will benefit all members of Bellarine Tourism and ultimately the region,” Armstrong said.
