BY ALISON MARTIN MORE than 130 extra bus services linking Bellarine towns with the Geelong public transport system will be announced this week. The new public system, which will include a major increase in weekday and weekend buses for the Bellarine, will be rolled out from Monday, October 25. Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville, said the State Government’s Victorian Transport Plan included an $80million investment to improve bus services in the Geelong region by providing extra services, extended routes, enhanced cross town connections and greater connectivity with rail services. “Enhancements to the Bellarine transit

network will see services improved in Torquay, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Point Lonsdale, Queenscliff, Drysdale, Clifton Springs, Portarlington and St Leonards,” Neville said. “The project will also create a new central bus interchange in Moorabool Street, Geelong. “The project will help meet the transport needs of Greater Geelong’s growing population – the largest population growth in regional Victoria.” Neville said improvements to the Greater Geelong bus network were being delivered over two stages. Stage one improvements started on Monday, September 7, 2009 and stage two improvements, which include Bellarine services, begin on Monday, October 25. “The stage 2 improvements consist of an extra

1,057 services per week, including an extra 279 weekend services,” Neville said. Route 76, covering Queenscliff to Geelong via Ocean Grove, will include an extra 10 weekday services and 15 weekend services. Route 78 to Clifton Springs and Drysdale will include 16 additional weekday and 28 additional weekend services. Route 79 between St Leonards, Portarlington, Drysdale and Geelong will benefit from 10 weekday and four weekend services. While route 80, covering Ocean and Barwon Heads to Geelong, via Marshall, will include an additional eight weekday and nine weekend services, with a further eight new route 82 bus services from Queenscliff to Ocean Grove.
