GREAT RESULT Great Ocean Road and iconic Bells Beach set to earn heritage listing
THE SURF Coast is set to gain worldwide recognition following Heritage Minister, Tony Burke’s announcement that the Great Ocean Road and Bells Beach are to be heritage listed. The listing will see the area benefit from increased funding, greater environmental and cultural protection and an amplified presence in the global tourism arena; alongside other listed icons such as Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef. Minister Burke acknowledged the beauty and cultural significance of the road and the iconic beach during his visit last Thursday. “The Great Ocean Road is one of the most powerful, spectacular and distinctive landscapes in Australia,” he said. “The government has recognised that due to its extraordinary historic and natural significance, the Great Ocean Road and the area that includes
