Welcome to our new Era! Building on our successes from past years, Peter and the world class testing team took input from team riders, shops and most importantly our customers from around the globe to create the most technically advanced sail range yet. You will find our 2017 range filled with incredible designs, a plethora of new features and exciting developments which make GA the brand to choose in 2017. The most noticeable change to our 2017 line up is the complete migration to constant curve masts. Over the past 6 years as technology and design has developed we have slowly been progressing our masts towards a more constant curve. Our race sails have already had two successful seasons on constant curve masts. We continue moving forward with the rest of our range now also on a constant curve profile. This change allowed us the opportunity to push our designs further than on our old masts. After hours of real world testing on and off the water we have reached a new level in our range. New luff curves, outlines and further refinement of our POSI-LEECH system which includes a new DYNAMIC BOOM CUTOUT provides a more enhanced sail twist and response time. Improved materials, all new seaming techniques and innovative construction systems improve weight, performance and durability. Refined batten positioning including the integration of a new top batten system has resulted in even better efficiency and improved response across our entire range. For our race range, radical changes to the foot and clew design have allowed us to better close the gap between sail and board without getting the sail stuck between the footstraps. We have eliminated the bottom batten crossing over the boom, which allows us to achieve a more neutral batten position by lowering the power zone of the sail, improving drive and handling characteristics.

We have created an entirely new lineup for all our sails. We are very excited! This process has taken a lot of design and development. We have changed all the luff curves of the sails, and much more; new outlines, new batten configurations, improved seaming techniques, construction details and better size flow, which has made our 2017 range one of the most exciting and inspiring line-ups on the market today. PETER MUNZLINGER is chief designer and leads the brand’s highly successful international team. Top world class sailors, including 2014 PWA wave world champion Thomas Traversa, 2013 PWA freestyle champion Kiri Throde, IFCA Slalom world champion Ben van der Steen, and 2 times formula world champion Ross Williams all add to the development of the most innovative and dominant windsurf sails to date.
GAASTRA SAILS 2017 For our new range of sails we have many new and exciting features. First of all we brought all our masts to a Constant Curve bending. We have been going in this direction for the last 3 years in our racing program. While this is not such a radical change as one might expect, it is for sure significant. In the past we exploited our mast bending curve as much as possible, but the new constant curve masts open up many more design possibilities for what we wanted to achieve this year and further forward. Our first range of sails is already proving that with ultra- light weight feelings in the hand, rapid acceleration and solid top end stability that will be hard to beat! All the outlines of the sails have been redesigned. Our wave range has drastically changed in many ways. A more narrow head, a mini leech cutout to improve twist and with the new masts, the feeling is lighter and more effortless to get more radical. For our Freerace/ Freeride sails we have added more shape into the top of the sail through seam shape, narrowed the head and lengthened the mast. This gives us better aerodynamic flow allowing the rider to constantly accelerate. We enhanced our posi- leech concept with a mini cutout to enhance lower leech twist. We radically changed the clew and foot configuration of our free-ride and free-race/ racing sails to get a more effective close of the gap that doesn’t get caught in the footstraps. We eliminated the cross batten concept, moving down the power position in the sail while keeping the natural shape of the batten. The clew is cut inside the sail outline to keep the length limited. On the materials side we reduced the film thickness of the Xply to 4 mil and also the film for the windows to 150 from 175 to further optimize the weight of the sail. Construction wise on the top battens of the higher performance range sails we use a wider overlap of the panels to pass the battens inside eliminating the batten pocket, in a more efficient, symmetric, weight optimizing way while providing a more direct distribution of the tension in this ever important part of the sail. We have changed all the luff curves, we have new outlines, new batten configurations, better seaming techniques and newly developed construction details. This 2017 range is our greatest creation to date. We hope you get to try one soon and see for yourself.

RADIAL PANEL LAYOUT
Improved layout for a perfect and locked-in sail shape, providing a smooth profile, twist control and durability. The 3rd Generation provides a full Radial Panel Layout from all 3 corners of the sail, the seams are aligned with the forces that originate from the tack, clew and head to avoid deformations of the shape and design of the sail. The new RADIAL LOAD TAPE brings even more heavy duty into the sails.
TACK FAIRING A redesign that makes the fold flow much easier. It is clean and just how it needs to be. Perfection!
DOUBLE SEAM This heavy duty reinforcement area through the windows on the wave sails gives solid durability at these critical areas.

The thin film laminate of the K105 gives a dynamic flex with a quicker response time to the top half of the mast sleeve. The special material not only saves weight but makes accelerating more instant so you can fly through chop and coast through lulls. The mast sleeve works in synergy with the specified mast absorbing shock and releasing power immediately. This keeps you and your sail full of energy!
CLEW AREA Our refined clew patch provides the ultimate in strength and durability. It also protects the stitching with the new styling features.
2 PLY In order to be able to reduce the weight of the sails we developed a completely new range of laminate materials, with a much thinner film supported by a double structure of fibers - a balanced scrim of fibers orientated in the warp that fit within a classic X-Ply angled series of fibers. From its structure the name 2-Ply arose. We have created a complex woven web with the highest durability that is also very lightweight. Besides the proven X-Ply, we use this laminate in the upper sail body to achieve minimal swing weight and protection of critical areas. • • • • •

Extremely durable. As many as two different X-PLY scrims with varying fiber density and film thickness are used in our 2017 sails. The materials are always carefully selected to match the sail‘s application and to obtain the ideal combination of durability and weight.

Our heavier team riders choose this sail for more locked in speed and power, the POISON will get up and go when you want it to! The 2017 POISON was designed for maximum power. We had to redesign this incredible sail to use on the CC masts and we found some new tricks for getting more power and better control. The new twist characteristics on the PURE are coming from the mast. We can put more shape up high in the sail and get a better release of unwanted power. PHANTOM
The PHANTOM is THE performance freerace sail. It combines the reduced weight and technical ease of a 2+1 batten cam sail with the performance of a full blown race sail. The 2017 PHANTOM has a new high aspect outline and smaller sail head. We have increased the amount of shape in the head of the sail and this in combination with the new outline and constant curve mast result in a sail that has better power down low with superior speed at the top end. The new PHANTOM uses the performance GA twin cam system but this year we have added a third removable camber above the boom. This additional camber gives the sail a “next” level of performance, making it the ideal sail for those looking to progress their racing skills. With two cams the sail is lighter, and a bit more simple we can say. With three cams the new Phantom unlocks a whole new level of speed and stability enabling you to cross the finish line first! Still under development, we are exploring various possibilities to increase the already high performances of this winning project, including: New taller outline with increased posi leech and dynamic cutout at batten above the boom. A smaller head for better power and agility and enhanced lower twist in the sail to make the sail feel lighter in the hands. New foot geometry and foot batten configuration for wider and more aerodynamic closing of the gap with a lower center of effort. New inset clew geometry for reduced boom length. More shape higher up in the sail. Top 3 batten pockets are integrated inside the panel overlap for a more symmetric, efficient, direct and lighter construction. Further simplified panel layout, with less panels and seams, further reducing the weight of the sail.

In 2017 the entire mast and sail range will be based around our all new constant curve luff profile resulting in a whole new level of performance across the GA Sails range.
