SHAPERS UNION

Shapers Union is a collaboration between NSP and several world class shapers from around the globe. Established to bring new life, energy and high-performance to the surf range, Shapers Union is our way to showcase the incredible talent of Shapers who have collaborated with World Champions,from longboarding to shortboarding.

NSP is currently teamed up with Hawaiian based Carl Schaper and the Australians, Tully St. John, Kym Thompson, and Marcie Oâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Neill.

All masters at their trade, these Shapers create the shapes that allow top-level surfers to achieve the impossible, while also providing groms with the gear that enables them to hone their skills from entry-level, right up to the tour.

Shapers Union boards will be predominately constructed using the latest high-performance Custom Surf Epoxy (CSE); the next-level in surfboard technology by NSP. Our very best craftsmen start out with a CNC-cut EPS core and sand it by hand into the final desired shape. Each shape then gets a different tried and tested glassing schedule with a UV-stable resin, along with fiber-reinforced tail patches, finalized with a satin rub finish.

Shapers Union boards can also be found in our popular Protech, Elements HDT and PU constructions.

Each Shapers Union board comes standard with new NSP FTU fin box setups and the result is a high-performance surfboard with plenty of flex, generating speed and maneuverability unlike anything else. The new CSE longboards will also feature a wood stringer and carbon stringers on the bottom.

By displaying one of these two logos, Shapers Union boards distinguish themselves from the rest of the NSP-designed boards.

Carl Schaper - Shaper With decades of experience in the shaping bay, Carl Schaper belongs to the higher echelon of shaper royalty on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Knowing a thing or two about high-performance surfing, Carl shapes for some of the very best surfers out there, including longboard 2x World Champion (Bonga Perkins), pipeline charger and industry legends like Garrett McNamara (Guiness Book of record for biggest wave ever ridden).

Marcie O’Neill - Shaper Legendary shaper Marcie O’Neill, teamed up with NSP to bring some new direction to the already popular Elements Longboard, Funboard and Fish surf shapes.

Marcie grew up surfing in Australia and started designing surfboards at the Aloha Factory in 1989. Coming from a traditional, yet eccentric background, when you look a little closer at the lines and rockers, you will see how our Longboard, Funboard and Fish Elements have evolved in terms of performance and taken on Marcie’s highly regarded style.

Tully St. John - Shaper Tully St. John is the Owner/Shaper of the legendary Laguna Bay Longboards from Noosa Heads, Australia. Down to earth and heavily involved in the local longboarding subculture, Tully has been shaping since his early days in high school. His shapes are being used by multiple World Champions, right through to everyday surfers, wanting something truly exceptional under their feet.

Tully’s shapes have been honed on the long running walls of Noosa’s Surf Reserve and its many surrounding beach breaks.

Kym Thompson - Shaper Starting at the young age of 15, Kym Thompson made designing surfboards his life’s work and to this day he designs and shapes everything from single-fin boards, right down to all multi-fin configurations. Originally Kym began his career shaping longboards and as the shortboard era took hold, Kym advanced his skills and transitioned his designs to meet the demands of the market.

SHAPE

Designed by Carl Schaper, the Pro-9 performance longboard is Bonga Perkins’ favorite all-around board. For over 20 years now, former 2-time World Champion Bonga has been riding slight variations of this shape.

The most significant improvement is in the Pro-9’s nose riding capability.

The Pro-9 is a longboard with as much shortboard crammed into it as possible. Carl Schaper will often point out the back-third of the board, as it fits almost perfectly on his 6’2 step up, with the same thickness, tail dimensions and rails. The bottom has a soft roll to V in the middle, running into V with a double concave in the tail.

Rail : Full Bottom : Concave into V Ideal waves : 1-6ft Level : Beginner - Expert • The heritage of this shape comes from the most successful twin-fin designs of the late 70’s and 80’s, updated as a modern thruster.

• The outline is wide with lots of area in the nose and a double wing swallow tail and a very distinctive and deep double concave V through the bottom.

• The double winger tail is an intricate part of the design with the fins set next to the wingers for a water flow release point in the rail to shorten the radius of the turn, giving a quicker, snappier and turnier board.

OUR STORY

NSP was born in 2001 from the vision of Bruce “Buzz” Hansen, a life-long surfer, skater and allround waterman.

While working in Maui as a custom surfboard builder, Buzz had an epiphany about producing affordable, versatile, durable and great performing surfboards. Buzz correctly realized there were everyday surfers that needed an affordable board that performed in Hawaii, yet they didn’t require “custom” or specialized competition or extreme surfboards.

His dream was a utilitarian surfboard that could ride in the back of a pick-up truck to the beach, be left in the sun all day or loaned to a friend without fear of damage - of course it had to surf well enough to be given to his long-time surfing buddies, neighbors and friends and save face.

GREAT PERFORMANCE The quest began, so Buzz summoned his friends working for a leading composites manufacturer with the goal to create a light, very durable surfboard at highly competitive prices. Working together, they introduced a new epoxy technology that would go on to revolutionize the industry and quite possibly recreational surfing. Weekend and occasional surfers no longer had to rely on the ill-performing “foamies” or be relegated to the used board market.

WHAT DOES NSP STAND FOR Our code name during development was “New Surf Project”. The name stuck and “NSP” was established. Over the years, we changed and evolved, and so did the name. Today, NSP stands for “Nature”, “Surfing” and “Products” because at the end of the day, that is what the company is all about.

Creating amazing products, firmly maintaining our surfing roots while we expand in other exciting watersports with the best possible designers, engineers and materials involved. And last but definitely not least; “Nature”. Choosing repurposed, recycled or renewable resources wherever we can is essential to us as a brand, creating a more sustainable future for ourselves and our sport.

Nuu surfboards draws inspiration from past shapes and designs but with subtly blended modern concepts. Classic outlines, progressive foils, rockers and rail profiles combine to give each NUU board a fresh fun feeling in the water.

The range of boards combines traditional shapes with modern surfboard technology. The boards are built with a combination of natural wood stringers, high-density expanded polystyrene (EPS) and laminated with layers of fiberglass and epoxy resin.
