So, with that touch of madness which always comes with brave choices, we are bringing back to Italy, with a “Tuscania” edition, an historical brand in high profile publishing, renowned the world over: Sur La Terre.

Why Tuscany? Because it’s the land where beauty is at home, in every corner, be it a wonderful palace in Florence or a glass of wine. This summer edition focuses on the Tuscan coast, celebrating one hundred years of the Forte dei Marmi seaside resort, a true symbol of Italian holidays, and introducing many other summer events.

It was my first magazine launch and it was all very exciting. Free glossy press was still a novelty at the time especially in Italy and we wanted to bring together French glamour with Italian style and tradition, all from a local prospective. It worked and by 2003 we had launched 3 editions: Milan, Rome and Tuscany. Then the world started changing, recessions, the internet, and we decided it was time to move on, at least in Italy.

Now the brand is truly international, we are present in the strong economies of Asia and Middle East, and its time to come back and reconquer Italy, starting from Tuscany.

Mercato Centrale Firenze not only revives an area of the city left deserted for many years, but fulfills an extremely relevant and necessary goal: to bring people back to a highly important and vibrant piece of Florence’s old centre, with traditional shops that give food artisans centre stage. With its three boutiques, Tenucci has been setting the benchmark of male and female elegance in Lucca for decades. Aspesi, Etro, Moschino, Church’s, Fred Perry, Peuterey and GANT are only a few of the brands that can be found in the men’s boutique in via Fillungo – a beautiful shop with wood paneling and an old-time, classy atmosphere – as well as in the women’s boutique or in the Tenucci Freewear shop, where a younger clientele can find the latest trends in clothing and accessories.

Doriani Cashmere reopened its historical Forte dei Marmi store, in via Montauti 5/7. The renovated boutique is all in soft hues and natural shades. Furniture is in varnished oak with steel inserts while the floor is in lava stone, all in different nuaces of beige, ivory and dove-grey, thus highlighting the lively, coloured Doriani Cahsmere sweaters and all other casual-chic articles. Behind Doriani’s brand there are two generations dedicated to the very best in style and quality. In the thirties a first company was created, manufacturing elegant belts and suspenders. The second generation then created one of the first Italian companies entirely specialized in raincoats, coats, tailleurs, for man and woman.

Principe di Firenze was founded in the town from which it takes its name, and over the years has become synonymous with «lifestyle», first in Tuscany, then in Italy and around the world.

In 2013 the Antony G. project was born with the opening of the first sales point in Ventimiglia, next to the French Border and the Côte d’Azur. The company’s business philosophy is to sale shoes selected and manufactured in craftsman workshops, mainly in Tuscany, but also in Lombardy and Campania. The Summer Collection 2014 features for the first time the Antony G. brand for men, Cristy for women and Dolci Pensieri for slippers. The latter are available in many different models, which often turn into elegant shoes.

Nel 2013 nasce il progetto Antony G. con l’apertura del primo punto vendita di scarpe a Ventimiglia al confine con la Francia e la Costa Azzurra. La filosofia attuale dell’azienda è di commercializzare scarpe scelte e costruite in laboratori artigiani, prevalentemente in Toscana, ma anche in Lombardia e in Campania. Così con la collezione estate 2014 sono usciti per la prima volta i marchi Antony G. per l’uomo, Cristy per la donna e Dolci Pensieri per la pantofoleria. Per quest’ultima è disponibile una vasta gamma di modelli, che in alcuni casi diventano delle vere e proprie scarpe eleganti.

Santi Guerrieri, founder of the family company, first opened a small hat shop in Lucca in 1878, in Via Calderia, where a bigger store with an entry shop window gallery is still present. Over more than 140 years the Guerrieri family continued to sell the best brands of hats for men and women, from the world famous Borsalino models, to more modern hat designs appealing to a contemporary clientele.

Since 1846 Samuele Martini boutiques have always stood for high quality clothing for men and women. The most ancient and prestigious boutique is the one in Lucca, opened in 1846. At the time it was a small department store where you could find all sorts of items, such as clothing and furniture imported from England, jewellery and perfumes from France, Chinese ceramics, and much more. The Viareggio boutique is hosted in a beautiful Liberty-style building on the ‘Passeggiata’ and has been the favourite shop of Giacomo Puccini and other great celebrities. The most recent opening is in Forte dei Marmi, in partnership with the brand Les Copains.

Dal 1846 le boutiques Samuele Martini sono sinonimo di abbigliamento di alta qualità per uomo e donna. La prima e la più antica delle boutique, fondata appunto nel 1846, si trova a Lucca. Nel secolo scorso il negozio era un emporio dove era possibile acquistare gli oggetti più svariati, in particolare abbigliamento e soprammobili importati dalla Gran Bretagna, bijoux e profumi francesi, porcellane cinesi, e molto altro ancora. A Viareggio la boutique si trova invece in passeggiata, in un meraviglioso edificio in stile Liberty ed è stato il negozio di Giacomo Puccini e delle più importanti personalità dell’epoca. Florence’s chic via Tornabuoni has witnessed the arrival of a new Dior boutique. And with it, the spirit of 30 Avenue Montaigne – its molding-covered walls, its Dior grays, its neo-Louis XVI furniture – has found a new home in the heart of the Renaissance city, under the impressive arches of a Florentine palace.

The new Dior store is located on Via Tornabuoni, the city’s prime luxury shopping destination, within the Medieval Tower of Gianfigliazzi. The store features the complete range of Dior women’s collections. RICHARD GINORI Richard Ginori re-opens its historic Florentine flagship at n. 17/r Via de’ Rondinelli revealing the ultimate expression of Italian excellence in the finest artistic production of porcelain the world over. The fully renovated boutique, spanning nearly 600 square meters and representing the new Ginori «home», is located in the centuries-old building Palazzo Ginori, in the Tornabuoni neighbourhood in the heart of Florence. Between Germany and Denmark lies an island born in the 14th century, whose shape resembles the graceful figure of a mermaid. Situated in the Wadden Sea National Park, Sylt – or Zölt in Söl’ring dialect – is frequented by those in search of relaxation and water sports. The secret holiday destination of the international jet set, you are sure to fall under the spell of its bucolic landscapes and multiple activities on offer in each of its twelve communes.

A PROTECTED NATURE RESERVE

UNBELIEVABLY CHARMING VILLAGES

The narrow strip of land that stretches towards the north of the island reveals its wild beauty.

On either side of the island’s only road, stretches the heath covered in rose bushes and heather, adorned in subtle shades of pink and purple in September. High dunes hide the to and fro of the waves. On the west side is a vast beach of fine sand 40 km long, which can be reached on foot. Opposite, a more peaceful landscape, the Wattenmeer, a natural site inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Here, high brick houses, mostly old farms or fishermen’s cottages, are covered with thatched roofs. Only a rare few are occupied all year round. It will cost you several million Swiss francs to negotiate a building permit or buy property on Sylt. As for the holiday apartments, there are indeed a fair amount, but they’re just as expensive.

Cycle paths run alongside the road because bicycles are a must in Sylt. Here, everything can be reached by bike, often helped along by electricity, owing to the impetuous winds that sweep across the island. Another favourite means of transport: the electric car. There are many charging points available to visitors.

Making the electric car compulsory on the island is a wish very dear to the inhabitants.

In Keitum, which literally means the captains’ village, every house is surrounded by dry stone walls. Here, jewellers, glassblowers and leather goods workshops stand alongside designer boutiques. In the island’s folklore museum, whales’ teeth and models of boats bear witness to the daily lives of the fishermen and their patient wives, nimbly handling bobbins to make fine lace. Worn on feast days, their traditional costumes are the reserve of the women born on the island. What’s more, this pretty village boasts a superb vineyard: its white wines contributed to the launching of the first wine festival on Sylt.

Several luxury hotels – including the Seiler Hof, housed in an 18th century residence – lead off the various paths. Continuing along the same vein, some still remember Gunter Sachs’ neat whitewashed house, which welcomed Brigitte Bardot and many other illustrious guests. The island has seen, and sees, many celebrities come and go.

Some of them own sumptuous villas. It has also been a subject of inspiration for filmmakers such as Murnau, who shot the beach scenes in the 1920 version of the film Nosferatu. More recently, Roman Polanski and his team were the attraction on the island for many months, when they filmed The Ghost Writer.

In the far south of Sylt, Hörnum is the departure point for boat trips to the oyster beds, the neighbouring islands and to see the various species of seal. This small port is dominated by a red and white lighthouse at the top of which weddings are often held, 35 metres above the ground! At the tip of the island, the large windows of the grand Budersand***** hotel attract the light. The KAI3, the hotel’s Michelinstarred restaurant, offers some of the best food on the island. The chefs’ festival will be held here in September. In the bar, decorated with Murano glass chandeliers, everything evokes the sea. In the morning, the rising sun adds a tinge of pink to the narrow strips of wood covering the building. In good weather, the view extends to the wind turbines – forbidden on Sylt – installed on the opposite island.

Filled with VIPs and gleaming convertibles, Kampen, a commune in the north of the island, resembles a Gstaad or Megève by the sea. The windows of prestigious shops, such as Vuitton, Bulgari and Hermès, can be found on the ground floor of beautiful thatched-roofed houses, surrounded by delightfully flower-filled gardens.

Less than 20 km north of Kampen, the fresh air up here contains a mixture of iodine and salt: this is List. This commune is characterised by its small fishing port and marina, surrounded by restaurants where you can enjoy mussels,

oysters and langoustines, against a background of music. A salt extraction plant recently opened here. Two imposing buildings, including the Watermeerstation, strongly committed to nature conservation, watch over the Wadden Sea. The flip side of the coin is that Sylt is living on borrowed time. Every year, storms nibble away at its coastline.

ISLAND OF SPORT AND GASTRONOMY The domain of bathers, yachtsmen and surfers, the island of Sylt has earned a fine reputation in the field of sporting events, from golf and polo tournaments to the Windsurf World Cup and the Ringreiten. In this traditional game, horsemen ride astride galloping horses and attempt to catch a ring using lances. Eight clubs continue this tradition and there are nine tournaments during the summer.

THE STRANDKORB: AN ANCESTRAL TRADITION This famous beach chair, designed to protect you from the wind, is made in the traditional way in Rantum, in the only factory on the island, where the boss is the only person allowed to attach the fabric to the chairs. Commonly used today, plastic, which is more practical, is made to resemble the wicker once used to make the chairs, but it has turned out to be far less resistant to bad weather. The chairs are nevertheless as successful as ever: Karl Lagerfeld and Claudia Schiffer count among those who have already ordered one.

There are two main hikes: from the region of Cao Bang to the region of Ha Giang (forgotten footpaths of High Tonkin, 16 days), and trekking in the region of Ha Giang to the region of Bac Ha (15 days). You will discover a number of weekly ethnic markets at the end of the trip, such as that of Can Cau, Pha Long and Muong Khuong.

In the remote regions of eastern Ethiopia, the small village of Sheikh Hussein is filled with excitement twice a year during the Oromo pilgrimages, which bring together the Ethiopian people. Here you will find Muslims, Christians and animists who have come to honour the Saint, who originally introduced Islam to the region. Hospitality and generosity reign over these days, where you will share intense and moving moments with the pilgrims. Then off to explore the vast labyrinthine caves of Sof Omar and to hike through the wild and beautiful nooks and crannies of the Bale Massif, before joining the Rift Valley for some fantastic walks through the areas surrounding lakes Abyata and Shalla.

PANAMA | COAST TO COAST 1513... Vasco Nunez de Balboa discovered an unknown sea that he called the southern sea, later renamed the Pacific by Magellan in 1520. During this exceptional expedition, we shall walk in the footsteps of Balboa and his small army of conquistadors. We shall leave from the land of the Kuna Indians, on the Atlantic coast, to join Darién, the Embera and the Pacific coast. We will cross the jungle by foot and the Chucunaque or the Meteti in a pirogue, to reach the Gulf of San Miguel. Thankfully lighter than our illustrious ancestors since we won’t be wearing armour, we shall advance under the guidance of our Indian friends. Very tricky to organise from a logistical and administrative point of view, this rare coast-to-coast trip is arranged without any mechanical means.

SPITZBERG | TOTAL ECLIPSE After preparing and acclimatising to our equipment in the area surrounding Longyearbyen, we shall leave for a completely autonomous five-day expedition to the Norwegian island. We will use skis to cross the wild environment surrounding the Isfjorden. Here, we are in the kingdom of the polar bear. Accompanied by a real polar explorer, we shall familiarise ourselves with the sublime and hostile environment. In this part of the world in winter, you will be sleeping in the shelter of your tent. This exceptional programme can also serve as a preparation for an expedition to the North Pole. A date has been scheduled to coincide with a solar eclipse, expected on 20 March 2015.

Dopo un’adeguata preparazione e il necessario acclimatamento nell’area intorno a Longyearbyen, partiremo per un’escursione completamente autonoma di cinque giorni all’isola norvegese, servendoci degli sci per attraversare l’area che circonda Isfjorden. L’ISOLA DI SYLT

UN PARADISO DI LUSSO DISCRETO TRA LA GERMANIA E LA DANIMARCA SI TROVA UN’ISOLA CREATASI NEL 14˚ SECOLO, LA CUI FORMA ASSOMIGLIA ALLA GRAZIOSA SILHOUETTE DI UNA SIRENA: SITUATA ALL’INTERNO DEL WADDEN SEA NATIONAL PARK, L’ISOLETTA DI SYLT – O ZÖLT, NEL DIALETTO SÖL’RING – È IL PARADISO DEGLI AMANTI DEGLI SPORT ACQUATICI E DEL RELAX. UNA RISERVA NATURALE PROTETTA Lungo entrambi i lati dell’unica strada che la attraversa, estendendosi verso nord come una stretta striscia di terra, l’isola rivela tutta la sua selvaggia bellezza: la brughiera si colora in settembre con il rosa e il viola dei cespugli di rose ed erica, ed alte dune nascondono l’andare e venire delle onde. Sul lato nord di estendono 40km di spiaggia dalla sabbia fine, raggiungibili a piedi. Sul lato opposto si trova invece un contesto ancora più rilassante, il Wattenmeer, sito naturale inscritto dall’Unesco nel Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità. In questa zona si trovano alte case di mattoni col tetto di paglia, che una volta erano capanne di pescatori o agricoltori, di cui solo una piccola parte è abitata durante l’anno. Ottenere un permesso edilizio o comprare casa a Sylt può costare diversi milioni di franchi svizzeri; sull’isola vi sono molti affitti turistici, ma ugualmente cari.

Le piste ciclabili corrono in parallelo alla strada, perché muoversi in bicicletta è un must a Sylt. Con una bici elettrica, comoda per contrastare il vento che soffia spesso impetuoso sull’isola, si possono raggiungere tutte le località. Un altro mezzo di trasporto molto diffuso è l’auto elettrica e molte stazioni di ricarica sono disseminate sull’isola per i turisti. Gli abitanti dell’isola sperano fortemente che presto l’accesso all’isola sia consentito alle sole auto elettriche.

VILLAGGI STRAORDINARIAMENTE SUGGESTIVI In Keitum, che alla lettera significa “capo del villaggio”, ogni casa è circondata da muretti di pietra a secco. Gioiellerie, vetrerie e laboratori di articoli in pelle e cuoio si affiancano alle boutique di design. Nel museo dell’isola dedicato al folklore sono esposti denti di balena e antiche imbarcazioni, che testimoniano la vita quotidiana dei pescatori e delle loro mogli pazienti, spesso dedite con straordinaria abilità al ricamo. Indossati nei giorni di festa, gli abiti tradizionali sono il tesoro delle donne dell’isola. Inoltre questo piccolo villaggio può vantare uno straordinario vigneto: i vini bianchi prodotti in quest’area hanno lanciato il primo festival del vino a Sylt.

Molti hotel di lusso – incluso il Seiler Hof, che si trova in un residence del 18° secolo – danno accesso a vari itinerari. Allo stesso modo, in tanti ricordano la bianca casa di Gunter Sacs, che ospitò Brigitte Bardot e altri ospiti illustri.

L’isola ha visto, e vede tutt’oggi, il passaggio di molte celebrità, che in alcuni casi possiedono qui ville suntuose. Ma l’isola è stata anche motivo d’ispirazione per alcuni registi, tra cui Murnau, che girò su queste spiagge alcune scene di “Nosferatu” nel 1920. In tempi più recenti, Roman Polanski e il suo staff sono stati al centro dell’attenzione dell’isola per molti mesi, durante le riprese del film “The Ghost Writer”.

richiama il mare. La luce del sorgere del sole al mattino aggiunge sfumature rosa sul rivestimento esterno in legno. Quando le condizioni ambientali sono ottimali, la vista si estende fino a rendere visibili le pale eoliche installate sull’isola vicina, ma proibite su Sylt.

Kampen, una piccola località nel nord dell’isola, pullula di vip e decappottabili, sembrando quasi una piccola Gstaad o Megeve sul mare. Le vetrine di boutiques prestigiose, come Vuitton, Bulgari o Hermes, si trovano al piano terra di bellissimi edifici dal tetto di paglia, circondati da giardini pieni di fiori. A meno di 20km da Kampen l’aria contiene un benefico mix di iodio e sale: siamo a List, un piccolo comune con un altrettanto piccolo porto e una marina circondata da ristoranti dove poter degustare cozze, ostriche e crostacei con un piacevole sottofondo musicale. Recentemente in questa zona è stata avviata una piccola salina. Sono due gli edifici principali, tra cui il Watermeerstation, impegnato nella salvaguardia della natura marina, si affacciano sul Wadden Sea. Il lato negativo della medaglia è che Sylt è destinata ad avere i giorni contati: ogni anno, le tempeste erodono progressivamente la sua costa.

UN’ISOLA DI SPORT E BUONA CUCINA Paradiso di nuotatori, surfisti e proprietari di yacht, l’isola di Sylt si è guadagnata chiara fama come location per eventi sportivi, dal golf a tornei di polo alla Coppa del Mondo di Windsurf e il Ringreiten, uno sport tradizionale in cui uomini a cavallo lanciano i cavalli al galoppo e cercano di infilare un anello usando una lancia. Otto squadre portano ancora avanti questa tradizione e in estate si tengono nove tornei.

Non manca certo la buona cucina a Sylt: non perdetevi Sansibar, ricavata nell’insenatura di una duna, uno dei locali più famosi dell’isola, conosciuto persino in Germania! Mentre alcuni vengono qui per assaggiare l’ottimo cibo e rilassarsi nell’atmosfera vivace, altri vengono qui per essere notati. In ogni caso, se volete cenare a lume di candela, farete meglio a prenotare con molte settimane di anticipo! Sei ristoranti di Sylt sono stellati e ben dieci sono citati nella prestigiosa guida Gault et Millau. Famoso per la sua cucina di alto livello, Alexandro Pape è lo chef di Fährhaus*****, dove si prediligono gli ingredienti locali. Al Söl’ring Hof gli ospiti hanno piena visuale sulla cucina, mentre degustano le prelibatezze nate dal talento dello chef Johannes King. Ma il personaggio più curioso dell’isola è senza dubbio Pius Regli: originario di Lucerna, Regli ha lavorato come cameriere in un bar prima della scalata al successo e l’apertura di un suo ristorante, il Manne Pahl a Kampen, assolutamente da non perdere! p

LO STRANDKORB: UN’ANTICA TRADIZIONE Questa famosa sdraio da spiaggia, ideata per proteggere dal vento, è prodotta artigianalmente a Rantum, nell’unica fabbrica dell’isola, dove il titolare riveste gli interni di tessuto personalmente. Realizzata attualmente in plastica, in modo da assomigliare alla vecchia impagliatura delle sedie di una volta, si è dimostrata purtroppo meno resistente alle intemperie.

Queste sedute riscuotono comunque un grande successo: Karl Lagerfeld e Claudia Schiffer sono tra i clienti vip che ne hanno già ordinata una.

Nella parte più meridionale dell’isola, Hörnum è il punto di partenza delle escursioni in barca a caccia di ostriche, alla scoperta delle isole vicine o delle varie specie di foche. Su questo piccolo porto campeggia il faro bianco e rosso, che spesso ospita originali funzioni nuziali a 35 metri dal suolo! All’estremità dell’isola, le grandi vetrate del Budersand***** hotel riflettono la luce. Il KAI3, il ristorante dell’hotel insignito di stella Michelin, offre il miglior cibo dell’isola e proprio qui si terrà un festival degli chef nel prossimo mese di settembre. “A NEW TUSCAN COOKING WITH LOCAL INGREDIENTS AND GENUINE TASTES” After a long and accurate refurbishment, this extremely refined location re-opened in 1990 as a single building obtained by joining two Liberty villas previously owned by the dukes Canevaro from Zoagli: Byron is a luxury 5-star hotel and is part of the Soft Living Places Group held by the Madonna family. As ancient private residences, the hotel offers its guest a quiet atmosphere with all modern comforts. Salvatore Madonna, in charge of the hotel group, leaves nothing to chance: according to him, the restaurant of a good hotel must have its distinctive features, which reflect the personality and the creativity of a good chef. The restaurant “La Magnolia” was once an annex and it looks out onto the gardens and the swimming pool. Andrea Mattei is the chef, born 35 years ago in Pietrasanta; after having worked as a chef for the last ten years in the most prestigious restaurants of Italy and Europe, Andrea is happy to be able to make the best of what he has learned here in Versilia. His way of cooking is simple and light, but his dishes are always much appreciated for the harmonious balance of tastes and their scenographic effect.

Andrea is with no doubt a talented chef, able to mix creativity and tradition, overcoming any possible cooking taboo.

But a real chef also works far from the cooktop: during winter, when the “Byron” is closed, Andrea tours famous European restaurants to improve his skills and learn from other top chefs.

In 2012 he spent several months in the kitchen of René Redzepi at the “Norma” restaurant in Copenhagen, which has been appointed this year as the best restaurant in the world. Last winter Andrea was in Spain, first in Barcelona at the “Lasarte” restaurant of Martín Berasategui and then in Madrid, at the “La Terrazza del Casino” with Paco Roncero. Salvatore Madonna encourages and coordinates these experiences with foreign chefs. “I think it’s a good way to help my chefs in their professional growth over time”, he says. “They are committing to innovate cooking, in a constant but progressive way”. In 2012 Andrea achieved his first Michelin star, confirmed in 2013 and in 2014. At “La Magnolia”, Mattei offers his “simple but never ordinary dishes, a kind of a new Tuscan cooking with local ingredients and genuine tastes, with some details to characterize each recipe”.

The à la carte menu includes new appetizers such as sardines à la plancha with Garfagnana spelt and artichokes with mint, beef carpaccio with seasonal vegetables, Tuscan olives and double malt beer. Among first courses, there are octopus risotto with tomatoes and basil, scampi agnolotti (a typical Italian stuffed kind of pasta) with Garfagnana spelt and herbs,

wheat gem tortiglioni with veal bacon, salsify roots and raveggiolo (a cow-milk cheese). As far as fish second courses are concerned, one can have tuna fillet with ‘schiaccioni’ beans and caramelized capers or a sole with camomile and Prato vermouth. On the meat side, the menu offers roasted veal loin and rib with asparagus or a mix of roasted veal and spottail mantis shrimps with ‘schiaccioni’ beans. When it comes to dessert, new sweet temptations are a cherry mousse with vanilla and mascarpone, apple and violet artichoke with verbena flavoured meringue and white chocolate and a curious

dessert dedicated to Davide Nido…a dessert that combines art with seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables. An excellent wine list accompanies the menu and reveals a great knowledge and attention to the perfect matching of tastes.

All ingredients are accurately chosen, fish is extremely fresh and delivered daily, fruit and vegetables are grown locally, meat is provided by suppliers chosen directly by Mattei and its origin is easily traceable, bread and pasta are homemade. “La Magnolia” continues to be one of the most special restaurant of the Versilia coast.

“UNA NUOVA CUCINA TOSCANA CON PRODOTTI DEL TERRITORIO E SAPORI AUTENTICI” Il Byron, che fa parte del Gruppo Soft Living Places della Famiglia Madonna, è un raffinatissimo ambiente di lusso a 5 stelle aperto nel 1990 dopo una lunga ristrutturazione. Questo albergo è nato dall’unione di due ville liberty dei Duchi Canevaro di Zoagli. Qui gli ospiti trovano l’atmosfera tranquilla, tipica delle grandi residenze private, ma con ogni moderno confort. Nato a Pietrasanta trentacinque anni fa, quindi totalmente autoctono, è da dieci anni chef di cucina.

Un ritorno alle origini. Perché il suo percorso di formazione si è sviluppato nei migliori ristoranti d’Europa e d’Italia. La sua cucina è immediata, fresca e leggera, senza eccessi di tecnicismo.

Uno chef di talento, insomma. Capace di muoversi fra tradizione e creatività, senza tabù. Un discorso a parte è poi il lavoro che Mattei fa ogni inverno quando la struttura è chiusa. Nel 2012 ha trascorso alcuni mesi nelle cucine di René Redzepi al ristorante Noma di Copenaghen, confermato anche quest’anno il migliore del mondo. L’inverno scorso l’ha passato invece in Spagna prima a Barcellona al ristorante Lasarte da Martín Berasategui e

Fra i primi risotto al polpo di scoglio con pomodoro e basilico, agnolotti agli scampi con farro della Garfagnana ed erbucci, tortiglioni al germe di grano con pancetta di vitella, barbe di prete, raveggiolo.

Nei secondi dal mare tonno e fagioli schiaccioni con capperi caramellati e una sogliola “in bianco” con camomilla e vermouth di Prato. Dalla campagna vitella arrosto con il suo lombo e la sua costola e asparagi, mentre dal mare e dalla campagna “rosticciana” di vitella con fagioli schiaccioni e cicala di mare. Per i dolci le nuove proposte sono un cremoso alla ciliegia con vaniglia e mascarpone, la mela e carciofo violetto con meringa alla verbena e cioccolato bianco, e un curioso dedicato a Davide Nido... un piatto fra arte, verdura e frutta di stagione. Ottima la carta dei vini, mirata al menu, che comunque dimostra un lavoro di attenta ricerca.

Tutti gli ingredienti sono scelti con cura. Di qualità superiore i pani, prodotti in casa, come la pasta.

Il pescato è di giornata e locale. Così anche frutta e verdura mentre la carne ha la sua tracciabilità garantita da fornitori scrupolosamente selezionati dallo stesso Mattei. Anche quest’anno La Magnolia si sta confermando il luogo d’incontro versiliese. p

CHEF LUCA LANDI WAS AWARDED HIS FIRST MICHELIN STAR, CONFIRMED IN 2013 AND 2014 The Green Park Resort is the jewel of the Soft Living Places Group headed by Salvatore Madonna: this quiet and modern resort is almost hidden in the extraordinary peaceful oasis created by the pinewood that stretches itself over five hectares along the Tirrenia coast, not far from Pisa. The resort boasts an excellent restaurant, “Lunasia”, within a semicircular hall with a glass wall looking out on the park offering at the same time a complete view on the kitchen. Luca Landi is the chief of the kitchen staff: born in Bagni di Lucca, in his early forties Luca had already been appointed world champion in gastronomic ice-cream.

Luca Landi began his professional training Among new dishes, the sea marinade, raw Fassona hand-cut meat marinated with sea water and anchovy dripping, with tomatoes tartar, Fassona sausage and pepper, shrimps, sea urchins and foie gras seasoned with sea water, mirin and Moscato. As a dressing, a golden syrup sauce.

The menu includes some new first courses such as double-flavoured ravioli with oysters and burrata, with sea urchins, celery and cucumbers, and the ricotta gnudi (the ravioli stuffing without the pasta) filled with a hare soft cream flavoured with black truffle, caramelized mushrooms, a Pecorino fondue and fresh peas.

Among fish second courses there’s tuna braised cheek, briefly braised in a vegetable sauce with herbs and tomatoes. This dish is accompanied

with Angelo Paracucchi at the “Locanda dell’Angelo” in Ameglia, then he was in Paris with Joel Robuchon, then again with Paracucchi and afterwards at the “Hotel de Paris” in Montecarlo and at the “Cellar de Can Roca” in Girona, Cataluña.

These different experiences allowed Luca to improve his knowledge of cooking techniques and learn how to create tasty, original dishes.

In 2012 he was awarded his first Michelin star, confirmed in 2013 and 2014. Apart from the wide choice available in the à la carte menu, Luca proposes three different tasting menus that will surprise the palate. An original aperitif will tickle the appetite: a cone of pastry with sesame seeds with mussels ice-cream and crispy cheek lard, smoked mackerel candied with olive oil, aromatic herbs and lemon marmalade, ‘soffiati’ flavoured with sour sauce and shrimp salt, creamy octopus croquettes with garlic and fish fry accompanied by cocktail sauce ice-cream.

by a potato and herbs pie, humus sauce and burrata cheese, in a tasty marriage of sea flavours combined with the richness of land fare recipes. The most particular second course is the duckling d’après Angelo Paracucchi, a recipe that respects and exalts the quality of the main ingredient: the duckling brisket is roasted, the neck is stuffed and the thigh is reassembled and braised. As a side dish, spinach and ficoide glaciale (ice plant) and as a dressing a sauce made with “Locanda style” blackberry marmalade and a meat sauce obtained by meat bones. To top a gorgeous meal, the special dessert scent of flowers, with a rose and litchi sherbet with violet and avocado mousse, a pine biscuit and flower sauce, with a garnish of untreated petals and mint crystalized with sugar, salt and spices.

LO CHEF LUCA LANDI HA OTTENUTO LA PRIMA STELLA MICHELIN NEL 2012, POI RICONFERMATA NEL 2013 E 2014 Una straordinaria oasi di serenità e benessere immersa in cinque ettari di pineta e macchia mediterranea sul lungomare di Tirrenia è il Green Park Resort, il “gioiello” pisano del Gruppo Soft Living Places guidato da Salvatore Madonna.

Tra i fiori all’occhiello la proposta del ristorante Lunasia nella bellissima sala dalle grandi vetrate semicircolari con vista sul parco ma anche sulla cucina. Alla guida della brigata Luca Landi, appena quarantenne e campione del mondo del gelato gastronomico. Nato a Bagni di Lucca, ha iniziato il suo percorso professionale con Angelo Paracucchi alla Locanda dell’Angelo di Ameglia, per passare poi a Parigi con Joel Robuchon, poi ancora con Paracucchi e in seguito all’Hotel de Paris di Montecarlo e al Cellar de Can Roca di Girona in Catalogna. Un lungo “viaggio” attraverso varie esperienze che gli ha consentito di perfezionare le tecniche di cottura e le tecnologie utili a elaborare piatti ricchi di sapore ma anche originali e interessanti nella loro presentazione. Nel 2012 l’attribuzione della prima “stella” da parte della Guida Michelin, riconoscimento poi confermato anche per l’edizione 2013 e 2014. La proposta di Luca prevede tre menu degustazione oltre alla ricca carta. Originale l’aperitivo con il cono di pasta all’olio e sesamo con gelato di cozze e guancia croccante, lo sgombro candito all’olio ed erbe con marmellata di limoni ed affumicato all’antico toscano, i soffiati aromatizzati con salsa acida e sale di gambero, la crocchetta cremosa di polpo e aglio, e un piccolo fritto di mare accompagnato con gelato di salsa rosa. Fra i nuovi piatti consiglio la marinata marina, cioè carne cruda di Fassona tagliata al coltello e marinata con acqua di mare e colatura di alici, con tartare di pomodoro, salsiccia di Fassona e peperoncino, gamberi, riccio di mare e fegato grasso, anche quest’ultimo condito con acqua di mare, mirin e moscato. In accompagnamento una salsa di melassa. Le novità fra i primi sono i ravioli bigusto di ostriche e burrata con ricci, sedano e cetrioli, e i confetti di ricotta ripieni di lepre. Hanno la forma del classico gianduiotto ma non sono altro che morbidi gnudi di ricotta con un cuore di crema di lepre abbinati a tartufo nero, funghi (un caramello), pecorino (fonduta) e piselli (biscotto e freschi). Nei secondi di pesce troviamo la guancia di tonno brasata, scottata leggermente in una salsa da brasato con verdure, erbette e pomodoro. Viene accompagnata con un tortino di patate ed “erbi” di campo, salsa humus e aria di burrata. Una proposta di mare cucinata con la sapidità di un piatto di terra. Per le carni, fra le novità, l’anatroccolo d’apres Angelo Paracucchi.

Un piatto che vuole raccontare per intero la sua materia prima. Il petto è arrostito, il collo farcito e

la coscia brasata e ricostruita. Il tutto accompagnato con gli spinaci e le foglie di ficoide glaciale. Salsato poi con la marmellata di more “Locanda stile” e la salsa carne ottenuta da ossa e carcasse. Fra i dolci il nuovo viene proposto con il profumo di fiori costituito da sorbetto di rosa e litchi con mousse di violetta e avocado, biscotto di pino e salsa di fiori.

Il tutto arricchito da una guarnizione di petali non trattati e menta cristallizzata con zucchero, sale e speziale del biroldo. A completare la proposta della carta una ricca lista dei vini curata dallo stesso Luca Landi e dal direttore di sala Claudia Parigi. Un occhio di riguardo all’eccellenze toscane,

poi le migliori etichette nazionali e internazionali, tanta attenzione alle bollicine anche di grandissimo prestigio dall’Italia e soprattutto dalla Francia. p

THE CASTLE OF VICARELLO HAS RECEIVED MANY INTERNATIONAL AWARDS AND PRIZES The Castle of Vicarello is a charming dwelling immersed in a park where relaxation, peace and adventure prevail, in the idyllic silence of Maremma: nature, perfumes, good cooking and joie de vivre in a friendly environment. Carlo and Aurora Bacceschi Berti, a couple with three children that lived in Bali until 1993, now live in this wonderful place.

Once in the fashion business, the couple has then turned to tourism, with the idea of converting this country house into a classy, exclusive holiday resort for a selected clientele, offering refined and exclusive services. The accurate refurbishment has exalted the most distinguishing features of the building, resulting in 2 deluxe bedrooms and five suites, each of them with fireplace and their own private garden. The resort also includes a spacious dining room and the spa, conceived and built in wood according to bio-architecture principles, a sauna and Turkish bath with a breath-taking view on the outside and an outdoor hydro-massage bath obtained by an old barrel. atmospheres and home memories; that’s why they also provided for three vegetable gardens where vegetables are grown and then used to prepare the meals. Aurora and Carlo always invite their guests to spend some time in this friendly environment, feeling like at home and sharing a beautiful country experience, with hunting rides or bicycle tours, cooking courses and yoga lessons. In the last ten years the Castle of Vicarello has received many international awards and prizes for the excellent quality of its accommodation services. The wine: “My Bordeaux in Maremma”, this was the title of an article written by the world champion wine

10% Petit Verdot and is aged eight months in barriques and then three years in bottle before being sold. “Terre di Vico”, from the Anfiteatro vineyard, is a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot and is aged for 15 months in tonneaux and two additional years in bottle. But Vicarello is more than wine, as an extraordinary extra virgin olive oil is produced here as well. Aurora is in charge of the kitchen, the real pounding heart of the country house, where olive oil and wine accompany traditional Tuscan dishes prepared with the local and seasonal products grown in Vicarello’s vegetables gardens. Apart from fruits and vegetables, chickens, pigs, Maremmane cows and game are bred as well, to guarantee the absolute genuineness of ingredients. But Aurora and Carlo strongly wanted to recreate familiar

sommelier, Luca Gardini, and it reflects what Carlo Baccheschi Berti thinks about his wine and his vineyard. “Selection accounts for quality” he says.

These biologic wines are obtained by vineyards grown as saplings, to exploit each plant to the maximum. The “Castello di Vicarello” is a blend of 45% Cabernet Franc, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon,

IL CASTELLO DI VICARELLO HA RICEVUTO PREMI E RICONOSCIMENTI INTERNAZIONALI Il paradiso è immerso nel silenzio della Maremma dove sorge il Castello di Vicarello, dimora di charme in un parco dove regnano relax, quiete e avventura. E poi natura, profumi, cucina, gioia di vivere, gioia di respirare aria di casa tra amici.

Ma con la percezione del raffinato, del ricercato, del fatto a mano, di quello che è studiato per te. Più che castello è una residenza padronale di campagna, con i fabbricati articolati intorno a un cortile interno, a cui si accede attraverso una caratteristica porta ad arco. Il luogo è oggi il regno di Carlo e Aurora Baccheschi Berti. Una coppia con tre figli che fino al 1993 ha vissuto a Bali. Già industriali della moda, si sono poi dedicati al turismo. Non di lusso, piuttosto di classe. Con l’idea di trasformare la struttura in un luogo da vacanze per pochi, al top, con una gamma di servizi e di proposte raffinatissime. Il sapiente restauro ha messo l’accento sulle caratteristiche più suggestive degli ambienti. Ne sono nate sette stanze (due camere deluxe e cinque suite), ciascuna con il camino e un angolo di rigoglioso e silenzioso verde privato.

Poi gli ambienti comuni e la dining room, la spa tutta in legno secondo i principi della bioedilizia, la sauna e il bagno turco da cui si godono scorci incomparabili, e la vasca idromassaggio esterna, ricavata in una vecchia botte appesa nella natura.

E poi le due piscine, una in travertino toscano, un vero affaccio, una terrazza verso spazi ampi

e lontani. L’altra, in mosaico di vetro colorato, circondata da piante e fiori all’interno dell’uliveto.

E tutto, naturalmente, vive immerso nello splendido giardino, con l’aria che odora di mille intensi profumi. Dalle rose all’acacia, dal gelsomino al rosmarino e la salvia fino ai funghi dell’autunno, quando gli alberi si accendono in vampate di rossi e gialli. Aurora e Carlo hanno pensato un luogo che riuscisse a ricreare atmosfere di casa, memorie di famiglia. Ecco quindi i tre orti, dove si coltivano i prodotti che vengono poi lavorati in cucina. E allora l’invito: venite a visitarci, a condividere un’esperienza di vita. A casa tra amici, insomma.

Ecco allora le battute di caccia o le passeggiate in

bicicletta, ma anche la scuola di cucina e le lezioni di yoga. Non per nulla, in dieci anni di ospitalità il Castello di Vicarello si è guadagnato una bella messe di premi e riconoscimenti internazionali. E poi il vino. Il mio Bordeaux in Maremma: così titolava un servizio realizzato dal campione del mondo dei sommelier Luca Gardini. È il pensiero di Carlo Baccheschi Berti sulla vigna e sul suo prodotto. “È la selezione – dice – che fa qualità”. Vini biologici da vigne allevate ad alberello per ottenere il meglio da ogni singola pianta. OKG jewel by Bijoux Cascio, the Pakerson prize, the Cruciani award, fine silverware by Cassetti, cultural week-ends in the hotels of the UNA group, magnum-size selected wines: these are only some of the fine prizes of the 22nd edition of the gourmet contest “A tavola sulla spiaggia”.

The beaches of Forte dei Marmi celebrate the town’s anniversary with a special 2014 summer menu dedicated to the small wedge shells of Forte. Over the years many celebs, aristocrats and common people joined the competition, sharing the passion for cooking. Simple and genuine cooking together with local and zero-mile products have always been the distinctive features of the competition; this year the cooks’ creativity will be challenged by re-inventing food leftovers, drawing inspiration from the most genuine and simple Italian traditional cooking. The 12 dishes will be accompanied by as many wines from different terroirs: from Colli Orientali, the wines by Eugenio Collavini, from Trentino, the Ferrari sparkling

wine and Villa Margon, Aneri and Zenato from Veneto, from Tuscany, Val delle Rose, Cecchi, Castello di Vicarello, Villa Banfi and the Rosé di Carobbio, from Umbria, Arnaldo Caprai, and from Sicily Feudi del Pisciotto. The only non-Italian wine will be the Basetta champagne, imported and distributed in Italy by Enoteca Marcucci in Pietrasanta. On the tasting desk there will also be the original small bottles of the extra virgin olive oil produced by Gino Paoli in his farm business in Campiglia Marittima. The catering service will be provided by Guido Guidi Ricevimenti that in less than three hours will serve 12 different dishes to 40 jury members, changing 480 plates and 480 glasses for the tasting of 12 different wines. The jury will include Michelin-starred restaurateurs, counting up to 11 Michelin stars, and winemakers.

Sirio Maccioni and Cesare Casella are expected from New York and the current president of Euro Toques and previous chef of Buckingham Palace Enrico Derflingher will join the team from Tokyo.

Annie Feolde of ‘Entoeca Pinchiorri’ and Marco Stabile of ‘Ora d’Aria’ from Florence, Andrea Mattei, Lorenzo Viani, Romano Franceschini, Alessandro Filomena and Luca Landi from the Versilia coast will complete the team. The world champion sommelier Luca Gardini will be present too, accompanied by ice-cream world champion Sergio Dondoli. This year Gian Marco Tognazzi, with his wine “La Tognazza”, will join the couple composed by Gino Paoli and Renato Pozzetto. But the most awaited guests of this year’s edition are going to be the summer panettone and the frozen nougat: this cooking provocation is promoted by the Italian journalist and ‘gastronomy hunter’ Davide Paolini who will also be a member of the jury and who asked a few artisan pastry chefs and chef Andrea Mattei from “La Magnolia” to accept the challenge and get started on these two curious recipes. The event will take place on the evening of Thursday 21st August at Bagno Roma di Levante, while the closing award ceremony will be held at the “La Capannina” restaurant and disco.

È uno show sulle “sabbie nobili“ di Forte dei Marmi per creare il menu dell’estate 2014 dove il tema di quest’anno, per i 100 anni del Comune, sarà le arselline del Forte. Negli anni si sono sfidati all’ultimo mestolo personaggi dello showbiz, nobili e gente comune, accomunati tutti dalla passione per i fornelli. E anche per questo appuntamento ritorneranno semplicità in cucina e valorizzazione dei prodotti locali, ‘colti sul posto’, come si dice, a ‘chilometro zero’. Ma anche, per non buttar via niente, piatti dove la materia prima è costituita dagli “avanzi” per una cucina del recupero.

Spazio a quella creatività, non fine a sè stessa, ma che “pesca” nelle migliori tradizioni gastronomiche italiane, quelle più vere. In abbinamento ai 12 piatti altrettanti vini racconteranno il loro terroir. Dai Colli Orientali del Friuli Eugenio Collavini, dal Trentino lo spumante Ferrari e Villa Margon, dal Veneto Aneri e Zenato, dalla Toscana Val delle Rose, Cecchi, Castello di Vicarello, Villa Banfi e il Rosé di Carobbio, dall’Umbria Arnaldo Caprai, dalla Sicilia Feudi del Pisciotto. Unico vino non italiano lo champagne Basetta, importato e distribuito dall’Enoteca Marcucci di Pietrasanta. Sui tavoli dei degustatori ci saranno le originali bottigliette di olio extravergine di oliva prodotto da Gino Paoli nella sua azienda agricola di Campiglia Marittima.

Il gastronauta Davide Paolini, anche lui fra i giurati, porterà di nuovo questa “provocazione” che vedrà il coinvolgimento di pasticcieri artigianali per il panettone e dello chef Andrea Mattei del ristorante La Magnolia dell’Hotel Byron del Forte per il torrone. La manifestazione per la terza volta in notturna e presentata da Anna Maria Tossani di Italia 7, si svolgerà giovedì 21 agosto al Bagno Roma di Levante, mentre la premiazione avrà luogo venerdì 22 agosto nella storica e mitica Capannina di Franceschi, da trent’anni della famiglia Guidi. p

“Un atto d’amore nei confronti di Firenze. Un modo per dirle grazie per quanto ha saputo donarmi in questi anni”. Così Stefano Ricci, presidente di Stefano Ricci SpA, ha sintetizzato il progetto della nuova illuminazione del Ponte Vecchio in occasione di uno straordinario evento. In effetti il designer fiorentino, profondamente legato alle proprie radici, ha sempre tenuto la sua città al centro di ogni iniziativa a livello internazionale. A partire dal 1972, anno di fondazione della società, qui ha sviluppato la propria attività insieme alla moglie Claudia e, nel corso degli anni, ai figli Niccolò oggi amministratore delegato, e Filippo attuale direttore creativo. Mantenendo sul territorio la propria sede e la produzione della Casa di moda maschile che si è affermata nel mondo grazie alla creatività e alla più alta qualità di un prodotto rigorosamente “100% fatto in Italia”. La nuova illuminazione del Ponte Vecchio - che segue la donazione della nuova luce della Loggia de’ Lanzi con cui Stefano Ricci ha festeggiato il 40° anniversario della propria attività – è stata al centro dei festeggiamenti di apertura di “60 years of Firenze Hometown of Fashion”. Prima uno straordinario concerto al Teatro dell’Opera dove Andrea Bocelli, accompagnato dai 70 elementi dei Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino e diretto dal Maestro Eugene Kohn, si è esibito in coppia col soprano Patrizia Orciani per i festeggiamenti dei 60 anni del Centro di Firenze per la Moda, che ha dato i natali al made in Italy. In apertura Giancarlo Giannini ha ringraziato Stefano Ricci, presidente e ideatore della manifestazione celebrativa. Nell’occasione è stata inaugurata una mostra sui cinquant’anni della sartoria Tirelli alla presenza del premio Oscar Gabriella Pascucci. In mostra i capi icona del celebre atelier per il cinema e per le grandi opere liriche. Fra gli ospiti Stefano Tonchi direttore di “T” del New York Times e Suzy Menkes inviata del Herald Tribune, Renato Balestra, Mario Boselli presidente della Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Terry Garcia vice presidente di National Geographic, Carlo Calenda sottosegretario al Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico, Franca Sozzani direttore di Vogue.

CELEBRATING THE CITY “An act of love towards Florence, this is my way to thank the city for all she gave me over the years”: with these words fashion designer Stefano Ricci, president of Stefano Ricci SpA, summed up the project behind the new lighting of Ponte Vecchio, which was powered on during an extraordinary event. The Florentine designer, profoundly proud of his origins, has always emphasised Florence all over the world, in every international initiative he has organized. Since 1972, when the company was founded, Stefano Ricci has always developed his business in this city, together with his wife Claudia and, in years, with his son Niccolò, who’s now managing director, and his other son Filippo, who’s at present creative director. Headquarters and production have always been in Florence and the fashion brand for men has established itself all over the world thanks to its creativity and the absolute quality of products 100% made in Italy. The new lighting of Ponte Vecchio follows the previous of the Loggia de’ Lanzi, that Stefano Ricci provided for on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his company, and was the main event of the opening celebrations for “60 years of Firenze Hometown of Fashion”. The celebrations also featured an extraordinary concert at the Teatro dell’Opera: Andrea Bocelli performed together with soprano Patrizia Orciani, both accompanied by chamber musicians of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino directed by Maestro Eugene Kohn. At the opening of the concert actor Giancarlo Giannini thanked Stefano Ricci, creator of the event. On the same occasion the Oscar-awarded Italian costume designer Gabriella Pescucci inaugurated a grand exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the famous costume shop Tirelli that displayed some iconic garments specifically created for cinema and opera. Among the plethora of VIP guests, there was Stefano Tonchi, director of “T”, the style magazine of the New York Times, the Herald Tribune correspondent Suzy Menkes, the Italian fashion designer Renato Balestra, the President of the National Chamber for Italian Fashion Mario Boselli, the vice-president of National Geographic Terry Garcia, the

undersecretary of the Ministry of Economic Development Carlo Calenda and the manager of Vogue Italia Franca Sozzani. Only few selected guests were afterwards allowed to take part in a fabulous dinner along the river Arno, on the Santa Trinità Bridge and the meadow of the Florence Rowing Club. Spared by the rain, the river exploded in a very scenographic show made by lights, flames and games: the French company “Ilotope” performed their wonderful show “Fous de Bassin”, using the river as a stage, turning the Arno into a magical setting full of enchanted characters that fascinated more of 20 thousand people flocked to the parapets not to miss the show. A grand, buoyant night to celebrate Florence as the hometown of fashion. “We wanted to invite the whole city and its citizens to share with us this event conceived for the city and its guests” said Filippo Ricci. “This event also represents our commitment to the territory – confirmed Niccolò Ricci – both from a productive and occupational point of view, but also as far as hospitality and care for the city of Florence are concerned”. Finally, the celebration reached Ponte Vecchio: after having sung an aria from Puccini’s “Gianni Schicchi”, Andrea Bocelli, together with the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella and fashion designer Stefano Ricci, powered the new lighting of the bridge on the cry of “Fiat lux”!

Quindi alcuni selezionati ospiti hanno raggiunto il ponte Santa Trinità e il prato del Circolo dei Canottieri per un dinner sulle rive dell’Arno. Sconfitto “Giove Pluvio”, le stelle sono apparse in cielo e il fiume si è trasformato in un caleidoscopio di luci, di fuochi e di giochi in un crescendo scenografico, quasi felliniano, che ha inchiodato alle spallette dei lungarni oltre 20 mila persone e tanti personaggi famosi. Tutti incantati di fronte a “Fous de Bassin”, lo spettacolo acquatico del gruppo francese Ilotopie che ha trasformato il bacino dell’Arno in un luogo delle meraviglie, con personaggi incantati e l’acqua come palcoscenico. Un grande show nella notte dedicata a Firenze città del fashion.

“Abbiamo ritenuto di allargare l’invito di questo momento celebrativo a tutti i fiorentini per condividere una festa pensata per la città e per i suoi ospiti” è il commento di Filippo Ricci. “Un impegno che consolida il nostro radicamento nel territorio – conclude Niccolò Ricci – sia in termini di produttività sia occupazionali, oltre che di ospitalità e di attenzione a Firenze”. Finalmente sul Ponte Vecchio, dopo aver cantato un’aria da “Gianni Schicchi” di Giacomo Puccini, Andrea Bocelli con il sindaco di Firenze Dario Nardella e lo stesso Ricci, hanno dato il via alla nuova illuminazione con il grido “Fiat lux”. p

Tre stelle Michelin per un angolo di Forte dei Marmi a Firenze To experience a preview of the lively holiday atmosphere of the Tuscan coast the idea is to bring a piece of Forte dei Marmi to Florence… but how to do that? Simply enjoying the tastes and perfumes of local ingredients and great cooking as interpreted by three great chefs: Gioacchino Pontrelli, from the “Lorenzo” restaurant, Andrea Mattei from “La Magnolia” restaurant of the Hotel Byron in Forte dei Marmi and Vito Mollica from “Il Palagio” restaurant of the Four Season Hotel in Florence gathered at the “Conventino” in Florence to express their cooking abilities at their best. DJ Stefano Busà from the famous disco “La Capannina di Franceschi” livened up the evening with music, while Ferrari champagne accompanied the refined dinner and models presented a collection of precious jewels by Cassetti. The guests’ palates were delighted by a mullet sandwich and prickly lettuce on green tomato gazpacho by Gioacchino Pontrelli, sciallatielli (a kind of pasta similar to spaghetti) with saffron, zolfino beans, little calamari and red shrimps by Vito Mollica, lobster and rabbit with chickpeas simmered with red wine by Andrea Mattei, accompanied by a Ferrari Riserva Lunelli 2005; the meal was topped off by a mascarpone cheese ingot with caramelised peanuts - by pastry chef Domenico Clemente of “Il Palagio” restaurant - accompanied by a Ferrari Maximum Demi-Sec and followed by a tasting of Grappa Segnana Solera Selezione. But the evening was also the occasion to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the municipality of Forte dei Marmi, and mayor Umberto Buratti took part in the dinner, too. From a modest village of fishermen and artisans to trendy location symbol of bien vivre, Forte dei Marmi experienced over the last century an ever growing administrative autonomy but also great success and important achievements.

Hanno conquistato gli ospiti del raffinatissimo dinner il sandwich di triglia e scarola su gazpacho di pomodoro verde di Gioacchino Pontrelli, scialatielli allo zafferano con fagioli zolfini, calamaretti e gamberi rossi di Vito Mollica, astice e coniglio sfumati al vino rosso e ceci di Andrea Mattei abbinati a un Ferrari Riserva Lunelli 2005, per concludersi con un lingotto al mascarpone con arachidi caramellati del maestro pasticcere Domenico Clemente del ristorante il Palagio abbinato a un Ferrari Maximum Demi-Sec e seguito da una degustazione finale di Grappa Segnana Solera Selezione. Ma è stata anche l’occasione per celebrare i primi 100 anni del Forte insieme al sindaco Umberto Buratti. Un secolo di autonomia amministrativa e di irresistibile ascesa.

The latest edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo saw the birth of the Aston Martin project: the first Aston Martin shoes collection conceived, designed and made by Pakerson together with the style office of the prestigious British car manufacturer. Aston Martin immediately recalls to memory the amazing cars of James Bond, but they are also the cars preferred by the Royal Family: the dukes of Gloucester and Kent, William and Kate, drive a DB5 Convertible, and Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles have an Aston Martin, too. Gabriele Brotini, responsible of the Tuscan branch of the brand, confirms that the Aston Martin philosophy follows an ‘automotive’ approach, according to which design, excellent materials and manual ability contribute to a product that raises brand awareness but is cool and discreet at the same time. The entire collection draws inspiration from the details of the Aston Martin style, mixing colours and different materials.

The finishing, the particular inner linings stitched and trimmed as car seats, the air scoop to allow feet perspiration: all these details are not merely aesthetic features, but contribute to offer a high level of comfort and functionality, with modern and sporty lines that seem to be taken straight from a highly-performing Aston Martin car design. As Elisa Brotini of Pakerson style office points out, this particular mix of contents and details adds an extra value to this collection, which is composed of six lines: Sporty, Elegant, Casual, Driver, Everyday and Ultimate, for special occasions. Materials used are super soft calf leather, suede and nubuk in the classical masculine tone of blue, black, grey and white, mixed with hints of yellow and red. Soles are mainly in ultra light rubber highly resistant to abrasion, with a tread design similar to that of carbon elements used for cars, but the most classical line also features leather sole with metal appliqués. The entire manufacturing process takes place in Tuscany. SMART-SET PARTY AT “PIERO” BEACH CLUB Everything looked like as in the roaring Sixties, when Versilia experienced its golden summers: the shooting set was organized by the Santini family at the “Piero” beach club, with the collaboration of Salvatore Madonna, who invited his friend and artist Ferdinando Cioffi, the famous portrait photographer, to take pictures of all the friends who gathered for the event. The choice of the date was not fortuitous – June 21st, summer solstice, the day with the longest period of daylight – and the photos taken on this special day will soon become a likewise special photo book. “Roberto and I had this idea – Salvatore explains – One day we were talking here under an awning, in a moment of relax at the beginning of the summer season. We’d like to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the municipality of Forte dei Marmi, together with all the friends that hang out here year after year.” The all-involving event also includes a culinary treat with the delightful dishes of the Hotel Byron’s restaurant, ‘La Magnolia’ created by the Michelin-starred chef Andrea Mattei, and accompanied by Vermentino Litorale Val delle Rose white wine and Basetta Champagne. IL BAGNO PIERO CELEBRA FORTE DEI MARMI Sembrava di vivere una scena di “Sapore di mare”, il film cult dei fratelli Vanzina che ha saputo raccontare la Versilia d’estate nel suo migliore periodo, gli anni ’60. Set fotografico allestito al bagno Piero del Forte dalla famiglia Santini, complice Salvatore Madonna che ha invitato un “suo” artista Ferdinando Cioffi, il fotografo dei grandi ritratti, a fermare su pellicola i volti di amici. Immagini scattate nel giorno più lungo dell’anno che poi diventeranno un libro. “L’idea è nata insieme a Roberto – dice Salvatore – sotto la tenda qui del suo bagno, in un momento di relax ad inizio stagione. Volevamo, in qualche modo, festeggiare i 100 anni del Comune di Forte dei Marmi con amici comuni che frequentano da tempo questi luoghi”. La data scelta non è stata casuale: 21 giugno solstizio d’estate. Serata coinvolgente arricchita dai piatti della cucina del ristorante La Magnolia dell’Hotel Byron della famiglia Madonna firmati dal suo chef stellato Andrea Mattei e accompagnati da Vermentino Litorale Val delle Rose e Champagne Basetta. he beautiful gem of Versilia has recently turned 100 and its most cool disco, “La Capannina”, has celebrated its 85 th birthday. Let’s go back in time and retrace the glorious stor y of bygone Forte, waiting for another lively summer in Tuscany’s most chic seaside location.

Last April the municipality of Forte dei Marmi has blown 100 candles for its birthday: in 1914, indeed, Vittorio Emanuele III turned the small hamlet wich was part of Pietrasanta into a municipality. The history of this seaside resort – nowadays closely linked to fashion design, luxury brand shops and VIP yachts anchored offing – dates back to the 16th century, when Michelangelo used the wonderful marble of the Apuan Alps to carve his masterpieces. Walking along the shoreline of Forte dei Marmi is the best way not only to bump into some famous actress or businessman, but also to remember all the protagonists of its 20th century history, as in Woody Allen’s movie “Midnight in Paris”.

Lo scorso 26 aprile, Forte dei Marmi ha spento le candeline per il suo primo secolo di vita. Correva infatti l’anno 1914 quando Vittorio Emanuele III trasformava la deliziosa frazione di Pietrasanta in Comune. La storia di questa località balneare - oggi legata al mondo del fashion design, con un bouquet di negozi delle maggiori griffe e gli yacht dei vip ancorati al largo - risale però al lontano Cinquecento, all’epoca in cui Michelangelo Buonarroti utilizzava per le sue statue lo splendido marmo bianco proveniente dalle Alpi Apuane, caricato sulle navi proprio dalle rive del Forte. Passeggiare sul suo arenile è, quindi, il modo migliore non solo per incontrare dive e imprenditori ma anche i protagonisti del XX° secolo, in un’atmosfera da Midnight in Paris.

FROM THE ROARING TWENTIES TO THE NEW DEAL

DAGLI ANNI RUGGENTI AL NEW DEAL

In August 1929, just a few months before what was to be remembered as the “Black Tuesday” of the Wall Street crash, Versilia was living its golden age: here several wealthy industrialists had their holiday houses and came every year to spend the summer, such as the Agnelli family. On the same white sandy beach Achille Franceschi, who had already owned an hotel, restored an old bathing hut with a crack handle gramophone, a counter and some chairs, getting off the summer ‘movida’ years before this term became fashionable. From that time on, the image of Forte dei Marmi has been closely linked to “La Capannina”, where major Italian intellectuals, actors, writers, politicians and singers shared memorable moments. These same years were described in Thomas Mann’s book “Mario and the magician”, set in Versilia, that Goffredo Fofi considers “the best book on 20 th century Italy ever written by a foreigner”.

È l’agosto del ’29 - pochi mesi prima di quel martedì nero, che sarà ricordato come il Wall Street Crash. In Versilia, quell’estate, si respira ancora l’euforia di un decennio che è andato a gonfie vele per l’imprenditoria e la Borsa. A Forte dei Marmi soggiornano molte famiglie di industriali, come i giovani Agnelli - che Susanna ricorderà nel suo romanzo autobiografico, Vestivamo alla marinara. E su questa spiaggia di sabbia bianca, l’albergatore Achille Franceschi ripulisce un vecchio capanno, sistema un grammofono a manovella, un bancone e qualche tavolino, e inventa la movida decenni prima che il termine diventi sinonimo di divertimento.

Da questo momento Forte legherà la sua immagine alle serate della Capannina, animate da un Italo Balbo che atterra con il suo aliante sul pontile del mitico Bagno Bertelli. Accanto a lui, a chiacchierare sorseggiando un Negroni, da Ungaretti a Montale ai maggiori intellettuali dell’epoca. E saranno proprio questi anni a essere immortalati dal Nobel Thomas Mann che, in Versilia, ambienta “Mario e il Mago” - quello che Goffredo Fofi considera “il miglior racconto scritto da uno straniero sull’Italia nel corso del Novecento”.

SAPORE DI... RICORDI

In 1982 film director Carlo Vanzina set in Versilia his most famous movie, “Sapore di mare”, turning “La Capannina” into a movie set. The film was a great success and brought the wonderful Sixties back to the top, celebrating the songs and people of that period of change. Forte dei Marmi has always been the favourite destination of the national and international jet set but also of all those families that with the booming economy could finally afford a summer holiday, as well as artists from all over the world. A funny episode of the time reports that journalist Beppe Severgnini, at the age of 9, asked his beach umbrella neighbour – famous singer Mina – to sing for him and his friends. A young John Fitzgerald Kennedy, in his twenties, stopped over at “La Capannina” as well, during a travel to Italy, and famous sculptor Henry Moore moved to Forte dei Marmi and settled in this strategic location to personally choose the marble extracted from the Cervaiole quarry for its sculptures.

Nel 1982, a Forte dei Marmi, Carlo Vanzina gira forse la sua pellicola più famosa, Sapore di mare, e trasforma La Capannina in un set. Il film è un successo che riporta in auge i mitici anni ‘60, le canzoni e i volti che hanno animato quell’intensa stagione di cambiamento. Sulle note de Il cielo in una stanza il pubblico si ricorda che Forte è stata, per anni, la meta preferita dal jet set internazionale e da quelle famiglie che, nel periodo del boom economico, scoprono la vacanza al mare o dagli artisti che trovano la propria ispirazione ammirandone il panorama. È il caso del giornalista Beppe Severgnini, che a soli 9 anni osa chiedere a una vicina d’ombrellone - Mina, per inciso - di cantare per lui e i suoi amici. Ma anche di John Fitzgerald Kennedy, poco più che ventenne, che passa dalla Capannina durante un viaggio in Italia; e, ancora, dello scultore Henry Moore, che nel ‘65 si trasferisce al Forte perché location strategica per scegliere di persona il marmo delle proprie opere, prelevato dalla cava delle Cervaiole.

La Capannina - che dal ’77 è di proprietà di Gherardo Guidi - mantiene intatto il proprio fascino e Forte dei Marmi è oggi la meta più in della Toscana. ine has been at the heart of the Cecchi tradition since 1893: four generations committed to 120 years of hard work, dedication, respect and passion for vineyards, the territory and the reputation of Tuscany in the world. The main themes of this tradition are Castellina in Chianti and Chianti Classico, and it tells the story of the Maremma, San Gimignano and later on of Umbria as well. All these years have been full of stories, relationships, anecdotes, victories and defeats and through all this Cecchi has become one of the most prominent winemakers in the world.

In 1935 Luigi Cecchi was the one who first began the export of the family wine and nowadays the overall production amounts to 7 million and 600 thousand bottles and Cecchi’s best wines are available in 50 countries around the world. Today the family business is run by the fourth generation of Cecchi, Andrea and Cesare, who cherish the past tradition and look forward to the future with a daily commitment to maintain and improve the company’s production chain. These 120 years of family business and wine history are the basis for an even more brilliant future: from study and research activities in the vineyards to the wine cellar organization and logistics, nothing is left to chance, always paying great attention to the financial, management, commercial, marketing and communication aspects of the business. The two Cecchi brothers want to celebrate the 120th grape harvest with a dedicated wine: in Villa Cerna vineyards, where the Sangiovese grapes express their best characteristics, they pointed out some rows whose grapes were reaped last

autumn and then vinified and aged separately.

This special wine will be available as Magnum or Bordeaux numbered bottles and will be ready to be relished only in 2018, on the 125th anniversary of the family wine tradition. The family terroir, its history and its precious production have thus led to a celebratory label boasting the Sangiovese characteristics with a single-variety vinification, as in the best tradition of Chianti Classico, in a sort of a return to the origins.

Nelle vigne di Villa Cerna, nella parte in cui il Sangiovese si esprime al meglio, hanno individuato alcuni filari le cui uve sono state raccolte lo scorso autunno poi vinificate e invecchiate separatamente. Di questo vino saranno prodotte Magnum e bordolesi numerate che sarà possibile degustare solo al prossimo anniversario, ovvero nel 2018 per i 125 anni. Il “terroir” della Famiglia, la sua storia e la sua produzione non potevano che condurre alla realizzazione di un vino celebrativo che avesse come varietà il Sangiovese del Chianti Classico in purezza. C

harlize Theron is not about to complain about her lot. As a beautiful, stylish, successful Oscar-winning Hollywood actress, face of Dior and new mother to the adopted Jackson, such ingratitude would be churlish in the extreme. The 38-year-old knows as much, so when discussing her new film A Million Ways to Die in the West, the South African-born actress is keen, as she so often has been over her sporadically difficult life, to accentuate the positives.

Comedy has not been a genre that Theron has granted herself too much access to, but rather than bemoan a lack of opportunity, she chooses instead to accentuate the positives – and many of them there are – that have made her one of LA’s leading ladies. “I always say this, but I am in no position to complain,” she begins, keen to lay a foundation to our interview from the very start. “Let’s be clear - I work a lot and I work on things that I really want to work on. And if you consider that, then I am a very, very blessed human being. So, for me to complain about anything is silly. I don’t do a lot of comedy,” she continues, “but I don’t necessarily complain about that because it has to be a very specific thing. I get a lot of stuff offered to me, but it’s not just necessarily stuff that I feel is funny.

And if I do want to jump into comedy, then it absolutely has to be the right comedy.”

A Million Ways to Die in the West, directed and written by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, certainly feels like the ‘right’ comedy. A humorous take on the Wild West genre set in 1882 Arizona, it takes Theron out of her comfort zone, but willingly. And if evidence of that is required, then so aghast was she that an initial meeting with MacFarlane turned out so unproductively, she chased him up in order to restate the case for her involvement. “When this came to me, I saw the potential, and I really f*cked up the first meeting with Seth,” she laughs. “So I fought for it.

The first time I met him I had 104 degree fever and had just come back from Namibia, from shooting in the desert. Believe me, I was a wreck. I literally got off the plane and I met him - I was in a winter coat shivering and I had no hair, and he was just like ‘who are you?!’

For days afterwards all I could think was ‘God, I really messed that up’, so I called him and told him I wanted to meet with him again. So when this stuff comes around now I fight for it.”

Learning how to handle a gun was nothing new to the versatile Theron.

“I’ve had to do stuff like that in movies all the time so there’s a sense of learning that one carries onto the next one.” she says. Nonetheless, the actress had a few arduous days on set with weapon in hand. “Seth and I went and practised together,” she offers. “I think one day we shot something, which was awful. Then the temperature dropped to freezing and we looked at each other and we were like, ‘This isn’t fun.’ It got so cold. It was testing!”

Theron’s rise to prominence, the start of which can be accurately pinpointed to 1997’s The Devil’s Advocate, where she starred alongside Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves, came against a backdrop of a tumultuous and heartbreaking upbringing in her native South Africa. Born in Johannesburg, Theron suffered while her alcoholic father physically abused both her and her mother. The abuse became so unbearable that, one night, Theron’s mother shot her father dead in self defence. No charges forthcoming, but an early die had been cast as to the sort of resilience the actress would need to display in later life where her career was concerned. And Theron overcame the anguish. In fact, some might even suppose she flourished against a backdrop of pain and adversity. Today, she is one of the most talented and recognisable faces in Hollywood. It’s a history that perhaps explains the kinship she feels with fellow African and Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, who marked her own reference to a testing legacy by stating that ‘every little girl’s dream is valid’. “That was a very lovely moment,” says Theron, “because a lot of people don’t acknowledge that I am African – they don’t see me like that. I ran into her parents backstage at the Oscars and they said, ‘Our African sister!’ That was lovely.”

Positivity is one thing, but all the optimistic thoughts in the world could not have taken Theron on the career path she has enjoyed. Could she

ever have imagined breaking through the adversity of her childhood to claim Oscar success herself (for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos in 2003’s Monster)? “No, I don’t think anybody can dream that big,” she returns, modestly. “I don’t think anybody who has gone through that experience will tell you that they believe they could aspire to that sort of level - it would be very grandiose to sit around and expect those things to come to you. But look, I have never heard of an actor who just wanted to be able to pay the bills and not have a waitress on the side or a waiter. The aim is always for the top.”

The next 12 months will see Theron in three films – her Western comedy adventure, Mad Max, plus Dark Places. It marks her busiest period of on-screen activity for several years. Part of the reason for a slowdown in activity over the past few years has been down to the adoption of son Jackson in March 2012. Like any working mother with a young child, routine changes dramatically: how has that affected the way in which she works? “The routine begins and ends with sleep preservation,” she laughs. “But really, life now is all about having to organise things better.

That’s been the big thing for me. Creatively, I have heard people say that once they have children they don’t want to work on dark material, but that hasn’t happened for me. If anything, having a child has just made me want to be more creative, ask bigger questions and have more interests in things that might be uncomfortable. I think we all have different responses, but for me it’s definitely been like that. I didn’t look at my slate and go, ‘No, I can’t do that movie now that I have a kid.’

Jackson just gives me energy to want to do more and explore more.”

Given the closeness to her mother and the traumatic experience they both went through all those years ago, Theron, perhaps more than anybody else, knows the value of a strong, committed family unit, given that safety had to be fought for when she was a growing up. The connection she feels with her own mother, although different to relationship with friends, is one she therefore values intensely. “I think people are there for different

reasons. I mean I think I have a closeness to my mum, we are friends, but she’s my mother first and foremost and that’s how I was raised. That’s why I think we are so close, because she never tried to just be my friend, she’s my mum.

“And so I think that’s why we have had the relationship that we have always had because it’s a healthy one. She’s not just my girlfriend; she just happens to be a person that I actually really like, and who I think is actually funny and all of that stuff. But she’s the first person to put me in line, the way a parent does!”

Does that still happen, in spite the actress’s fame and fortune? “Yes, of course,” she laughs. “I mean, in a way where she treats me like I am an adult. She doesn’t treat me like I am 12 anymore, but we have a very healthy relationship in that sense, and I value that so highly.”

So there it is: even a woman as successful as Charlize Theron, with an Oscar for best actress to her name, can still receive a telling off from her mum. Theron wouldn’t have it any other way. “Every child wants their parent to be proud of them, and I think anybody who won’t admit that is secretly hiding something. I feel there’s definitely a sense when it comes to a child and their parent, and I think we are all human beings and it can sometimes be harder to take criticism from a parent. And I have had moments with mum where she’s like, ‘That movie is a piece of sh*t!’”, she laughs. “But I would rather her be incredibly honest, because then when she says that movie is really good, I really believe it!” p

La commedia è un genere in cui Charlize ha sempre avuto poche occasioni di esprimersi, ma piuttosto che dare la colpa alla mancanza di opportunità, Charlize preferisce evidenziare tutti gli aspetti positivi che le hanno permesso di diventare comunque una delle attrici e delle donne più apprezzate di Los Angeles. “Lo dico sempre, ma davvero non posso lamentarmi” inizia, dando subito una piega precisa alla nostra chiacchierata. “Voglio essere chiara: lavoro molto e ho la fortuna di fare un lavoro che amo, solo per questo mi considero una persona molto, molto fortunata. Per questo lamentarmi mi sembra una perdita di tempo. Non ho recitato in molte commedie – continua – ma non mi lamento di questo perché deve succedere nel modo giusto: mi sono stati offerti molti film, e non sempre si trattava di ruoli divertenti. Ma quando vorrò prendere parte ad una commedia, dovrà essere con un ruolo giusto per me”.

“Un milione di modi per morire nel West”, film scritto e diretto dal creatore di “Family Guy” Seth MacFarlane, sembra davvero essere finalmente la commedia giusta. Una visione ironica del Selvaggio West ambientata nel 1882 in Arizona, che per una volta costringe Charlize ad un ruolo diverso, cui l’attrice ha accettato di misurarsi con entusiasmo. A dimostrazione della sua volontà di ottenere quella parte, dopo un primo incontro assolutamente negativo con MacFarlane, Charlize cercò in ogni modo di convincere il regista a prenderla in considerazione per il ruolo femminile. “Quando capii il potenziale del film, volli assolutamente provare a farne parte, ma il primo incontro con Seth fu semplicemente un disastro! – ride – Ho lottato per avere quel ruolo.

La prima volta che ci siamo incontrati avevo la febbre altissima, ero appena arrivata dalla Namibia, dove ero stata per uno shooting nel deserto. Credetemi, ero a pezzi. Ero appena scesa dall’aereo, tremavo di freddo in un cappotto invernale e avevo i capelli tagliati cortissimi, e lui mi guardò come per dire ‘E questa chi diavolo è?’. Nei giorni che seguirono non facevo altro che ripetermi ‘Oddio, ho davvero rovinato tutto!’ quindi chiamai Seth e gli dissi che volevo vederlo di nuovo. Ogni volta che queste occasioni capitano a tiro, io lotto.”

Imparare ad impugnare una pistola è stato un gioco da ragazzi per la versatile Theron. “C’è sempre da imparare qualcosa di nuovo sul set di un film, mi è capitato molte volte” dice. Nonostante questo, per l’attrice non è stato facile affrontare certe scene della lavorazione del film, con un’arma in mano. “Seth e io abbiamo fatto pratica insieme. Un giorno, sparando, centrammo davvero qualcosa e fu terribile.

Poi venne un freddo incredibile, ci guardammo e pensammo ‘No, questo non è divertente’. Avevo un freddo assurdo, è stata una dura prova!”.

Si può ben dire che l’ascesa di Charlize Theron ebbe inizio nel 1997, quando recitò a fianco di Al Pacino e Keanu Reeves in “L’avvocato del diavolo”, mentre in Sudafrica, sua terra natale, scontri e rivolte minavano la stabilità del paese. Nata a Johannesburg, la Theron ha vissuto un’infanzia poco felice a fianco di un padre alcolizzato che abusava di lei e della madre. La sofferenza era tanto insostenibile che una notte la madre sparò al padre, uccidendolo, in un estremo tentativo di autodifesa, per sottrarsi all’ennesimo, intollerabile abuso. Nessuna accusa, ma quell’episodio indubbiamente fu determinante nel forgiare la personalità di Char-

lize, alimentando quella capacità di resistenza e recupero che ha caratterizzato più avanti anche la sua vita professionale. Così Charlize ha superato l’angoscia, e si potrebbe persino pensare che sia stato proprio questo contesto di avversità e dolore a spingerla, per contro, verso la positività e il successo. Oggi, la Theron è una delle attrici hollywoodiane più note ed apprezzate. Questa storia forse spiega anche la sua affinità con la giovane attrice africana Lupita Nyong’o, recentemente insignita di un Oscar, che ha sottolineato come “i sogni di ogni bambina sono importanti”. “È stato un momento speciale” ha commentato la Theron “perché in pochi mi considerano africana. Ho incontrato i genitori di Lupita nel backstage e non appena mi hanno vista hanno esclamato ‘Ecco la nostra sorella africana!’ e per me è stato bellissimo”.

Essere ottimisti è senz’altro un pregio, ma nessun pensiero positivo sarebbe bastato a garantire alla Theron la felice carriera professionale di cui ha potuto godere.

Charlize avrebbe forse mai immaginato di riuscire non solo a superare la sua difficile infanzia, ma persino di vincere un Oscar (per la sua interpretazione di Aileen Wuornos in “Monster”, del 2003)? “No, credo che nessuno sia in grado di sognare così in grande!” si schermisce con modestia “Credo che nessuno, dopo aver vissuto esperienze di un certo tipo, possa pensare di aspirare a tanto; sarebbe pretenzioso starsene seduti ad aspettare che qualcosa semplicemente accada. Non ho mai sentito parlare di un attore che si sarebbe accontentato di riuscire semplicemente a pagare le bollette senza avere un cameriere a fianco. Si aspira sempre al massimo, no?”.

Nei prossimi 12 mesi Charlize sarà protagonista di ben 3 pellicole - la sua commedia nel West, Mad Max e Dark Places - il periodo di lavoro senz’altro più intenso degli ultimi anni. L’adozione di suo figlio Jackson, nel marzo del 2012, è stato sicuramente il motivo che ha spinto Charlize ad allontanarsi per un po’ dal grande schermo. Come ogni madre che lavora e che deve badare ad un figlio piccolo, la routine è cambiata drasticamente: in che modo questo ha condizionato la sua carriera?

“La routine adesso ha semplicemente a che fare con le ore di sonno disponibili!” ride “Ora si tratta di riuscire ad organizzare al meglio ogni cosa, questo è stato l’aspetto più importante e difficile per me. Dal punto di vista creativo, ho sentito dire che quando si diventa genitori si preferisce non lavorare più su certi temi, ma per quanto mi riguarda questo non è successo, avere un figlio mi ha reso semplicemente più creativa, più curiosa e più incline ad interessarmi anche a cose che prima avrei evitato. Sicuramente ciascuno reagisce in modo diverso, ma per me è stato così. Non scorro l’elenco delle proposte pensando ‘No, questo non posso farlo adesso che ho un figlio’. Jackson mi ha dato tanta energia e voglia di fare, provare cose nuove”.

Il forte legame con la madre e la drammatica esperienza condivisa nel passato hanno sicuramente permesso a Charlize di conoscere meglio di chiunque altro l’importanza dell’unità familiare, di quella sicurezza per la quale ha dovuto lottare e difendere quando era piccola. Sebbene diverso dal legame che si può avere con un amico, quello con la madre è un rapporto a cui la Theron dà estrema importanza.

“Penso che le persone ci stiano vicine per motivi diversi. Sono molto vicina a mia madre, abbiamo un rapporto di amicizia molto bello, ma è importante non confondere i ruoli, perché lei è sempre e prima di tutto mia madre. È così che sono cresciuta e penso che sia proprio per questo che siamo così legate, perché mia madre non ha mai cercato di essere solo mia amica, ma prima di ogni altra cosa è sempre stata genitore. È per questo che nel tempo siamo riuscite a mantenere questo legame così speciale, perché è un rapporto sano, equilibrato, non è solo un’amica ma è una persona che sinceramente apprezzo per la sua intelligenza e la sua ironia, ma è sempre mia madre, e solo lei sa rimettermi in riga, come ogni genitore fa con i propri figli”.

E questo succede ancora, nonostante lei adesso sia un’attrice di successo? “Certo!” ride “Non mi tratta certo come se avessi ancora 12 anni, abbiamo un rapporto equilibrato, da persone adulte, ed è proprio per questo che per me è così importante”.

Questo è il punto: persino una donna come Charlize Theron, vincitrice di un Oscar come miglior attrice, accetta una strigliata dalla propria madre. E Charlize non avrebbe mai potuto chiedere niente di diverso da questo. “Ogni figlio desidera che i propri genitori siano orgogliosi di lui, e chi non lo ammette mente a sè stesso. A volte è difficile accettare una critica da un genitore, ma è ciò che rende autentico il rapporto, ed è così per tutti. A volte mia madre mi dice ‘Charlize, quel film è orrendo!’

Hallucination Taking part in the fair for the first time, the British diamond merchant Laurence Graff left an impression with his presentation of Hallucination. With a value of USD 55 million, this watch, which required thousands of hours of work, is also considered to be the most precious one ever created, with 110 carats of coloured diamonds of an exceptional rarity.

The world tour of unmissable international events this summer will begin with two much-awaited exhibitions, one dedicated to the jewellery of Peter Carl Fabergé (1846-1920), while the other will allow visitors in London to admire the pictorial experimentations of the British painter William Turner (1775-1851). Then onto Milan, capital of fashion, which will be dressed in the 2015 springsummer collections in September. The tour will continue in Edinburgh and Oslo, a must for all jazz aficionados, followed by Cannes and Monaco, celebrating the start of a beautiful Indian summer with two exceptional major events for yachting enthusiasts. Finally, India, for the Diwali or Festival of Lights. Have a good trip!

Il tour mondiale degli eventi internazionali imperdibili inizia quest’estate con due mostre molto attese: la prima dedicata ai gioielli di Peter Carl Fabergé (1846-1920), mentre l’altra darà l’occasione di ammirare a Londra gli esperimenti pittorici di William Turner (1775-1851).

Poi Milano, capitale della moda, che a settembre si vestirà con le collezioni primavera-estate 2015.
