RESEARCH New York based independent production companies: Narrowed down to these five:

Sundial Pictures is a New York City based indie film production company, dedicated to producing documentary and feature films. We work in all stages of the film making process, from development through distribution. Filmmakers seeking independent film production guidance find the assistance needed at Sundial Pictures. Our goal is to unite with other independent film production companies, film financeers, and philanthropists to help create powerful motion pictures and bring those films to as wide an audience as possible.

OLD LOGO

Problem -Image next to type doesn’t resemble a sundial/imagery not matching logo type -Typography in logo doesn’t show much hierarchy (“Sundial” only bolded and same type size as “Pictures”) New Identity -Fix logo -Capture the essence of a sundial rather than the literal object -Focus on shadows/capturing time in movement that occurs

TYPOGRAPHY

Logo Font: OSP-DIN Left Aligned 3D Extrude & Bevel:

SUNDIAL Stationary/Business Card Font: ITC Avant Garde Gothic (Book) Grey used for last name on business cards reflects concept of time changing/shadows forming with the sun rising/setting. Sundial Why the angle for the logo? The angling/skewed perspective of the logo is meant to reflect a shadow. Sundials are instruments that show the time by the shadow of a pointer cast by the sun onto a plate marked with the hours of the day. A sundial is a clock that uses the position of the sun to indicate the time. The goal of the re-design was to capture the essence of a sundial without using images to reference the physical object.

Orange Logo -Bags -Company Apparel

LOGO ANIMATION

START:

END:

Movement of Logo: Orange: Reminiscent of a sunset/sunrise Fading: Orange to white to show movement of time Rotation of Logo: Like a sundial, the logo moves in a circular, flat motion to represent the passing of time As time is constantly passing, the logo for Sundial should reflect this. The instrument is so beautiful, but an image of the actual dial would take away from not only a strong identity, but would be almsot too obviously executed.
