POWAY VALLEY GARDEN CLUB HONORS VOLUNTEERS
T
he Poway Valley Garden Club (PVGC) is dedicated to enhancing and beautifying Poway. Last year, having received a grant from The National Garden Club, Inc., PVGC began work on a new Volunteer Appreciation Garden in the shade of Old Poway Park’s Nelson House. This garden is made possible in collaboration with other local businesses and organizations as well: Bernardo Winery, U.S. Navy volunteers, Los Rancheros Kiwanis Club, Poway KRC Company, and Poway Historical Society. The new garden has PVGC more excited than ever for the 42nd Standard Flower Show, scheduled for April 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old Poway Park. The free Fantasy in the Gardenthemed event will give all ages the opportunity to explore the Volunteer Appreciation Garden, the other six gardens PVGC maintains at Old Poway
Park, show exhibits, and the community favorite plant sale. Master Gardeners will be available to answer gardening questions, and booths will feature school gardens and hands-on planting for younger participants. The flower show is accepting entries in four divisions, each with a unique theme: Horticulture – Magical Creatures; Design – Enchanted Worlds; Educational – Fantastic Flora; and Botanical Arts – Fantasy & Fun Everywhere. Design Division registration is open through April 1 by calling Adele at 858-673-8728. Horticulture Division entries and exhibits will be accepted on April 23 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and April 24 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Nelson and Porter Houses in Old Poway Park.
