The handloom industry is the second largest cottage industry in Andhra Pradesh. Due to several reasons weavers are shifting from handloom to power loom. The main reasons for the decline of the industry are lack of infrastructure, upgradation, organizations and low waves.
The present weaving facilities are ill maintained. The absence of the common point for the stakeholders of the industry such as the weavers, buyers, designers, marketing agents and students have resulted in the fragmentation of these activities.
The industry will be greatly benefited from the intervention of researchers, weavers, designers and buyers. In order to catch up the fast moving world it is necessary to upgrade the methods of weaving and break the monotony of the design produced.
The project aims to design a handloom centre that will bring together these operations. This project is expected to breathe new life to the handloom industry which is in much needed revival.
