#IAmSouth 2013 – 2014

The Office of Residence Life (ORL) welcomes you to the South Campus community for the 2013 – 2014 academic year! We hope that your move into your apartment goes smoothly. Eric Nestor Assistant Director Office of Residence Life South Campus

#IAmSouth is our theme for this year. We are one community made up of individuals. Each of you living in our apartments and three residence halls, in addition to the staff, make up our South Campus community. You bring your experiences and personalities to help form who we are on South Campus. Combined with events the staff and our incredible student organization, S.C.O.P.E., facilitates this year, we hope you continue building relationships with your neighborhoods. Follow and tweet your experiences throughout the year using #IAmSouth.

NEW

2013?

Of the Several projects that occurred on South Campus this summer, you will immediately notice a few changes, especially if you are returning to South Campus. First, solar panels were installed on the three-bedroom apartments. These will help power the energy to heat the hot water tanks in these apartments, reducing our energy consumption. Learn more about the project here!

Second, parts of the Winding Ridge community received new curbing and parking areas. This will help direct traffic, identify clear parking spaces for residents, and provide a separation of the road from the parking area. Finally, all ground level apartments have received a dehumidifier as part of the furniture/equipment package. These need to remain in the apartment throughout the year. If your apartment is humid or you spill a large amount of water on the carpet, you may use to help dry the apartment. Otherwise, the dehumidifier should remain stored in the apartment for use in the summer by University personnel.

THE Campus bus service is coordinated through Parking and Transit Services and serviced by the Centro bus system. On South Campus, bus service throughout the apartments and Skyhalls operates using a 7-minute schedule. As a result, there should be a bus stopping at the bus stops about every 7 minutes during peak class time usage. While this provides a bus service that a convenient, with frequent pick-ups, it is important to plan accordingly based on your academic schedule/transportation needs and the usage of other riders. It will be unlikely that you can ride the closest bus to your class time as other residents may be on the bus, causing it to be full. The primary South Campus bus numbers are the 144, 244, and 344. See their schedules so that you are familiar with the pickup and drop-off times. The complete bus schedule is available on the Parking and Transit Services website as well as on the Centro website. The #444 will operate on Small Road only, traveling through Manley. In order to keep this new route flexible for tweaking the schedule as needed, it will not appear on any the official bus schedule. However, Small Road

residents should be aware of the existence of this new route.
