Health, child and social care is all about helping people live their lives, whether that’s providing treatment for patients, assisting people with daily tasks in their homes, helping offenders rehabilitate or offering lively, nurturing childcare. The work is rewarding and gives you the chance to earn a living while making a difference to other people’s lives. Our courses will give you a rich mix of practical skills and knowledge. If you’re a caring, respectful individual, you will find a variety of career options available to you. The NHS is the biggest employer in Britain, with more than 300 careers to choose from. Care homes for the elderly and for people with disabilities also employ many local people.

In this course you will cover effective communication and its importance at work. It includes how to meet the communication and language needs, wishes and preferences of individuals, promote effective communication and principles and practices relating to confidentiality. Further emphasis is also given to handling and ensuring confidentiality of information.
This course covers criteria from unit DEM from the QCF Diploma in Health and Social Care. It is aimed at people who provide care or support to those with dementia. The unit covers the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion that are fundamental to person-centred care practice.
This course focuses on providing the right care for individuals who suffer with dementia. You will develop a clear understanding of what dementia is, its causes, the needs of individuals and how they can be supported and cared for.

If a baby cries, we may cuddle them or rub their back. Massage can be particularly good for premature babies, helping them to grow and thrive, but it’s good for fullterm babies too. Massaging your baby can help keep them relaxed, sleep better, cry less, help with colic and wind, and can help strengthen attachments. The course is delivered through a combination of distance learning and six Saturday workshops.

Emphasis is given to duty of care in relation to safe practice and ethical dilemmas. Safeguarding is covered, including recognising signs of harm or abuse and methods to reduce the likelihood of abuse.

You’ll learn how to complete risk assessments, grade risks in moving and assisting individuals, accidents and illnesses, medication and general healthcare. The course also includes hazardous substances, managing stress, fire safety, security at work, food safety, nutrition and hydration, preventing the spread of infection, the correct use of PPE and the appropriate procedures to waste disposal and cleaning methods.
