17th November to 12th December Acclaimed artist Paul Smith is exhibiting his haunting and memorable paintings. He explores lost places and capturing the essence of abandonment. Chichester Cathedral is thrilled to present a festive programme of services, music, visual arts and digital experiences, celebrating Advent and Christmas. Central to these celebrations are two very special exhibitions: Field of Blooms is an immersive light installation, which will be on display from 29th November 2021- 30th January 2022. Presented within the Cathedral’s 600-year-old Cloisters, the artwork comprises 1000 stems of light that gradually change and morph in colour. From 16th December The Chichester Nativity will return. This immersive photographic installation shares the story of the Nativity in the style of a renaissance tableau. Characters within the artwork were drawn from charities and medical services, paired symbolically to the roles within the Nativity. Various Dates in November and December Once again families can board an elfpowered boat for a gentle ride through the reedbeds to visit Father Christmas on the Sail to Santa days on 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th December. Try the ‘Naughty or Nice-0-Metre’ before you board, then experience the magic of a festive visit with Father Christmas inside his ‘frosty’ grotto and receive a WWT present bag.

Pop in and see the Dalmatian pelicans and visit the diving ducks in the Coastal Creek aviary! Take in the fresh air at our play areas and hand feed the ducks and geese in the Lakes and Forest exhibit.

Steamlights at The Bluebell Railway

Now through to January Following the success of last year, the Bluebell Railway is running the hugely popular ‘Steamlights’ experience again. Tickets are available from now through to January, but they are disappearing fast! Visitors who book this magical journey can expect a truly elevated winter lights experience suitable for the whole family. The evening begins with a theatrical lighting up ceremony, then an atmospheric steam train journey in private compartments on carriages covered with thousands of lights which shine out creating different effects on the passing countryside.
