Chin chin Gin became popular in England during the late 17th / early 18th century. It is increasing in popularity and Worthing Gin are enjoying this trend. Proprietors Phil and Alison spoke to Sussex Local about their passion for the spirit. Since 2019 they have been experimenting to achieve what they feel is a classic dry gin. They explained that their gin's unique flavour is attained by macerating natural botanicals such as juniper berries, coriander and rosemary in neutral grain spirit which is then pot distilled and blended with South Downs spring water. The resulting flavours; Classic, Orange Blush and Mellow Pear are rested for 3 to 4 weeks before being bottled and labelled by hand. Phil and Alison said, “Why not cheer up a dreary autumn day with a visit to the Gin Shop in the Guildbourne Centre or catch the “Gin Genie” blue van at the Montague Square Wednesday market”. www.worthinggin.co.uk

Amberley Parish Council County update, motorbike noise, neighbourhood plan & Covid Edited extracts from the draft minutes of the Parish Council meeting held on 10th Sep 2020. County and District Cllr update One Cllr spoke about the new White Paper on Planning and the methodology which would see Horsham District expected to build 1700 houses per year for the next 25 years (up from current target of 950 per year). It is widely acknowledged that this figure is disproportionate compared to other counties – the issue is being taken forward by the MP. Antisocial motorbike noise This ongoing issue (especially along the B2139 and A29 – including Whiteways) was often caused by motorbikes with modified silencers which is a problem with bikes capable of 15,000 RPM. Bury PC are currently working with Andrew Griffith MP and Sussex Police on this issue and initiatives such as stopping bikes and noise testing them and employing drones to monitor speeding bikes are currently happening. It was suggested he Council work with Bury PC to resolve this.
Neighbourhood plan It was advised that with regard to the car park the application for funding submitted to the Government’s Rural Development Programme (RDPE) for an amount of £75,000 had been unsuccessful. As had the application to SDNPA for £35,000 of CIL funding. The committee is currently assessing other options. Covid response initiatives Amberley Covid Hub is working in partnership with Amberley Parish Council (APC). Some residents had questioned why this was not being run by the APU. It was advised that currently the ‘powers’ of APC do not allow for the Council to act outside the parish boundaries, whereas a volunteer group has no such restrictions. Additionally, there have been a few incidents of residents requiring clarity on quarantine regulations. The Council will be sending an email and will ask the Covid Hub to put up posters on the village shop noticeboard. www.amberley-pc.org.uk
