Motoring News from across the industry The dangers of In-Car Tech A review to look at ways of reducing road casualties and deaths is assessing how in-car technology could be increasing accident risks. A recent survey carried out by Venson Automotive Solutions shows that while only 13% of motorists admit to being side-tracked themselves by in-car technology when driving, 68% said they had noticed an increase in other drivers being distracted by dashboard controls or using their mobile phones. Mini Electric milestone Mini Plant Oxford has hit a significant milestone by building more than 11,000 Mini Electrics since production began. Premiered in July 2019, during the brand’s 60th anniversary year, Mini’s first all-electric model is fully integrated into the production process at Oxford.

The Mini Electric production can be adjusted according to global demand.

The Benefits Of Quieter Reversing Alarms Reversing incidents injure or kill thousands with more than half hit by HGVs. Emily Hardy, a vehicle safety expert at Brigade Electronics, explains how the company worked to solve this issue. She said: “Research has shown that pedestrians had become so used to the sound of traditional tonal ‘beep beep’ alarms that they weren’t hearing them. We worked to create an alternative in the form of ‘white sound’.” Using broadband technology, the alarm called bbs-tek® White Sound® emits a ‘ssh-ssh’ sound, similar to breaking waves, that is highly directional, gentler on the ear and easier for pedestrians to pinpoint.

Thank you for your co-operation. Motorbike nuisance

As previously mentioned, Fittleworth Parish Council are involved in a couple of local working groups which include representatives from the police as well as county and district council officers, to explore a range of possible measures to find permanent solutions for local communities. At the recent Performance & Accountability meeting for Sussex Police, the Crime Commissioner, Katy Bourne, made the motorbike nuisance her number one priority, spending over 30 minutes on the subject out of a 90 minute meeting, and highlighting problems experienced by

Wisborough Green and Bury, and mentioning Fittleworth and surrounding areas as also experiencing similar issues. You can watch the whole meeting at https://sussex-pcc.public-i.tv/core/ portal/webcast_interactive/463957. The discussion on Bury and surrounding roads begins about 5 minutes into the meeting. Parish Council meeting Presentation At the Parish Council meeting in August, a resident presented his concerns and suggestions relating the the unacceptable noise issue and traffic volume along Lower Street and other roads in Fittleworth. This information has been passed onto the Parish Highways & Traffic Working Group. Fittleworth and Stopham churches are open during the daytime and said (not sung) services, with participants wearing facemasks, are in the process of resuming. David is sending out a weekly e-mail to Fittleworth and Stopham regular and semi-regular worshippers. Please be in touch with him if you would like to receive this and also if you, or someone you know, needs practical or prayer support. Modest financial support from a local charity may be available to those experiencing economic hardship as a result of illness. From September, we anticipate a mixture of online and actual church services in both churches. Details will be set out in the September issue of the Fittleworth and Stopham Magazine. Please contact David, the parish priest, david.crook15@btinternet.com, to receive an email invitation to participate in our services via Zoom. Home Deliveries and Click and Collect The village shop has now suspended home delivery and click and collect services but will keep the situation under review. Fittleworth Sports and Social Club requires extensive repairs to maintain the building for its long-term use. The club, together with Fittleworth Parish Council, see this as an ideal opportunity to refurbish the entire building to create a community hub for local sports and community groups to use throughout the week. An online questionnaire for residents is on the front page of the parish council website. www.fittleworth-pc.org.uk
