Rabat Grand Theatre is a shell type structure fully made of concrete. It is located along the Bouregreg River to ensure maximum exposure. It includes a three theatre spaces, over 2,500 seats and an outdoor amphitheatre able to house up to 7,000 people. The design of the grand theatre makes it seem as if it is melting into the surrounding landscae, a play on form to create an alien structure that still appears to be natural.

Concrete
- Brushed - Exposed - Stenciled - Coloured - Polished
Structural Offsets Raw form Basic
Reinforced concfete Steel The whole structure is made up of concrete Textile and with the reinforcement done with Re-bars
plywood. Concrete is a misture of water, cement and sand which makes it a flexible material. It has high compressive strengths and lower tensile strengths. Concrete shell -with ribs Tiles Polished
Limcrete It is a Concrete where cement is replaced by lime.
Glass Concrete Glass fiber embedded in a concrete matrix
Tiles Panels
- Exposed aggregrate - Polished - Laminates

PROPERTIES - High compressive strenght - Lower tensile strength - Cracking at high temperature - Wlow coefficient of thermal expansion
APPLICATION - Patio - Driveway - Column - Slabs - Beams - Floors - Paving - Carport

PICTURE OF APPLICATION
Concrete ribbed shell envelope, with concrete supports and steel tail
Rs 30005000 per sq m
Three major components
- Temperature increase of steel and concrete in composite steel - Concrete elements leads to a decrease of Mechanical properties such as yield stress, youngs modulus and compressive strenght of concrete.
- Column - Structure of the building
RebarsRs. 47 per foot
- Better thermal Properties than Normal concrete. - Non corroding behaviour - High damping capacity - Low coefficients of thermal expansion
- Domes - Vaults
5000 per sq m
- Decorative applications - Window Trims - Exterior Friezes - Faรงade panels - Thin wall casting - Countertops
Rs. 45 per sq foot
The load of the roof gets tranfersed to the curved shaped concrete walls through trusses.
The load of walls is transfered through the supporting structure shaped like a tail.
Jahnavi Suthar
The design process started with making platonic solids and then puncturing then. It was observed that when the punctures were made on the surfaces the deformation was less but when the edges were cut, it collapsed. Models were made to understand this and how different punctures deformed the solid in different ways.
The inner structure is stable because of the columns while the outer structure is an independent structure which is made of concrete panels.

- It prevents damp penetration - provides insulation - maintains breathability - Provides a solid Durable floor
Concrete Ribs
Internal floor slab structure, including auditorium balconies and circulation areas

20%,40%,60%,80% respectively of each surface was punctured, the punctures were made until the solid deforms. Later to add strength to the form, frames were made. The members were placed on all sides of the openings thus giving it maximum strength and reducing the deformation.
Adding frame to it. The members added were designed according to the need of the opening. It was observed that if the member is placed perpendicular to the surface, the solid was stronger than placing the member parrallel to it. A model of only frames was then made.

Architectural Case Study - 18.36.54 residential house
Metal Plate
Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind’s 18.36.54 House in western Connecticut is named after the 18 planes, 36 points and 54 lines which define its living spaces. The exterior of the property is clad in mirror-finish bronzed stainless steel, making the appearance of the building entirely dependent on the changes in the natural environment surrounding it. This design successfully challenges all our traditional notions of shape, angularity, and perspective while offering a fully functional residence in a complimentary juxtaposition of manufactured forms and materials against organic form and nature.
The existing construction method includes the metal box section all aroung the surface and having small sections in between which is then cladded with thin metal sheet.
Process model using the same method of construction

The Corner Junction
First Attempt - Ball Joint Reason For Failure - All the load accumulates at the ball which was a weak connection between the long spanning metal structural members.
Second Attempt - Extending the plates Reason For Failure - When extended, the plates were intersecting in such a manner that the whole joint becomes weak itself.
Third Attempt - Connecting two I-girders Reason For Failure -Placing both I-girders in vertical manner and connecting them with a triangular plate was a difficult method of construction too, and the other two members were left to create a junction.
intersect - A Metal Structure
Final Junction - Making a periphery around each surface and conecting the two end I-beams with the metal flange at its edge.

If a column is not placed in the perpendicular direction of the surface, the load does not transfer easily and results into weakness of the structure.
