Welcome to another issue of Love2Line. The nights are starting to get lighter now and hopefully it won't be long before the warmer weather arrives. There is plenty for you to enjoy in our magazine. We love hearing about our wonderful choreographers who keep us on the dance floor and this month we have interviewed choreographers, Alexis Strong and Jose Miguel Belloque. Patt Stott has kindly given her playlist from her recent Valentine's Dance and we also have lots of dances for you to look at plus some dance reviews. Check them out and see which ones you like. We also have our partner dance spot with Alan and Sonia who keep us up to date with what is happening on the very popular partner dance scene. Ellvie has her 'one that got away' and Coffee Break Fiction spot with another short story inspired by the title of a popular line dance. We hope you enjoy our magazine but remember it's YOUR magazine and we would love to hear from you whether you are line dance teachers, choreographers, dancers or maybe all three. Until next time, all the team at Love2Line wish you 'happy dancing.'

LOVE2LINE MEETS ALEXIS STRONG When I started dancing I was 3 years old. As I got older I began to take exams in disco, ballroom, salsa and also line dancing. I earned 12 rosettes in ballroom along with bronze, silver and gold, gold bar 1 to 3, star 1 to 5 with IDTA Line dancing I earned bronze, silver and gold Gold bar 1 to 3 and star 1 to 5 and a teaching certificate when I was only 14 years old.

Love2Line gets to know Alexis Strong Dance Instructor and UK Choreographer talks to us about her love of dance and passion for choreogrpahy

The dance school I went too was Adelphi studios in Halesowen and my teacher was named Dorothy Darby and my Line dance teacher was Susan Dale. It wasn't long before I became a line dance teacher myself at the young age of 16. My first attempt at choreography was in 2012 with my first dance called Soldier Boy.

I've gone on to write with other choreographers UK and abroad, like Pat Stott Sandra Speck and Ann - Kristin Sandberg. The dance I'm most proud of is a little beginner dance called ,Why wait' which was a personal success as not only did it rank highly in the Copperknob top 10 but it was danced all over the world. Teaching Line dancing is also a passion, I have been running my classes now for the last 15 years and I enjoy it as much as the day I started. I enjoy not just the classes but the social aspect of line dancing and I take my members on holiday every November. I also have monthly socials.

I also choreographed a lovely dance with Pat Stott which was published in Up Country Magazine. I like all types of music but I admit that pop is my favourite.

I will always love my line dancing as its played a very big part in my life for many years and I've met thousands of lovely new people, I have great support from my family and friends which I'm very grateful for and couldn't do it without them and my life partner Teresa who attends all my classes and socials.

WELL I NEVER This is our little spot for you linedancers who have a passion for trivia. Maybe you love taking part in pub quizzes. Here at Love2Line we just find trivia fascinating and isn't it great learning something new every day? Here we go then with our fascinating facts:1. Agyrophobia is a fear of crossing the street - well I suppose it depends what's on the other side. I mean if there is a chocolate shop there it won't stop me!

2. Nuts sold without their shells are subject to VAT but nuts still in their shells are exempt - oh well, better get the old nutcrackers out then.

3. Dad's Army star Clive Dunn, Corporal 'they don't like it up 'em' Jones spent four years of the Second World War as a prisoner of war - Mmmm that's taking 'method acting' a bit too far. 4. 32% of Brits would rather go without chocolate than be without their mobile phone. - Errrrm well count me out of that 32%. 5. 33,000 years is the length of time that dogs have been man’s best friend. - Yes and that friendship is still going strong. And finally:6. 90 minutes is how long it takes the International Space Station to orbit the earth. - Makes me feel dizzy just thinking about it! We hope you enjoyed our trivia spot, so we look forward to next month when we can once again say 'well I never.'

SECOND HAND HEART

Coffee Break Fiction Welcome to Love2Line’s fiction corner where you can sit down, relax and enjoy reading a story inspired by the title of a line dance. This month’s story is inspired by one of our classes favourite dances ‘Second Hand Heart’ choreographed by Maggie Gallagher to the music ‘Second Hand Heart’ by Ben Haenow featuring Kelly Clarkson. So get yourself a coffee and chocolate biscuit and sit down and enjoy.

Jade opened her eyes slowly, wincing at the bright sunlight that streamed through the window. For a moment she was disorientated. Where was she, this wasn’t her bedroom? A monotonous bleeping sound jogged her memory. Of course, she was in hospital. Yesterday, a tired eyed doctor had explained to her how ill she had been. Following surgery, complications had resulted in her ending up in intensive care for over a week. Jade couldn’t remember any of it, thank goodness. She tried to raise herself up but pain shot through her body like a hot knife and she fell back onto the pillows. It felt as though twenty horses had kicked her. Jade had been inundated with visitors over the last few days but where was her boyfriend, Lewis? Why hadn’t he been to see her? He hadn’t even sent her a get well card. She had tried asking people but no one would give her an answer. They had looked uncomfortable, tried to change the subject. Something wasn’t right. Had he decided to look for someone else, someone who didn’t have health problems? Jade shook her head. Lewis wasn’t like that. Why, only a week before she was taken ill he had told her that she was his soul mate and that he would never leave her. He said that his heart would belong to her alone and no one else. It just didn’t make sense.

Jade started to get angry and upset which sent the monitor beeping furiously. A nurse ran into the room. ‘Are you all right Jade?’ she asked checking her pulse. ‘I want to see my boyfriend. Do you know where he is? No one will tell me.’ The nurse looked flustered, her cheeks reddening. ‘I don’t know, sorry. Look I have to go and get your medication. Just relax.’ She turned and rushed out of the room. Jade sighed. Her heart was broken. She laughed. A broken heart. Yes it was an undiagnosed and unknown heart condition that caused her to end up in hospital and now Lewis had broken it a second time. Tears began to run down her cheeks. Her mother came into the room and rushed to her side. ‘Oh Jade, what’s the matter? You mustn’t get upset. We want you up and home as soon as possible.’ ‘I want to know where Lewis is mother. No one will tell me anything. Look I know I’ve been ill but I really need to know where he is. It will keep eating away at me otherwise.’

Her mother sat down and took Jade’s hand. Her eyes filled with tears. ‘You’re right. We’ve all been so concerned trying to protect you but the doctor agrees that you should be told.’ ‘Told what?’ Jade cried. ‘Has he left me for someone else?’ Her mother sighed. ‘When you collapsed and were brought here, your heart was failing. They said you needed a heart donor or else you would die. We all prepared ourselves for the worst. We rang Lewis who said he would get here as soon as possible. ’ Her mother paused, tears in her eyes. ‘He never made it. There was a major pile up on the motorway and he was killed.’ ‘No!’ Jade screamed. ‘There’s no easy way to tell you this but your new heart is Lewis’s, he was your heart donor. He is your saviour.’ Jade was in shock. The heart she could feel beating inside her belonged to Lewis. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She remembered him telling her that his heart belonged to her alone and now, it always would. Ellvie Wood

HEATHER BARTON'S 18th BOOTLEGGERS FESTIVAL Heather Barton with her crystal ball, a gift from Crazy Hazy, a fun gesture to celebrate her crystal boot nomination for 'Cecelia' and as a personal recognition of her efforts in choreography.

Saturday 13th february saw the Bootleggers have their 18th annual festival in Alva, 130 dancers came along on this cold damp day and they were all ready to party. The festival started at 12 noon with myself Heather playing requests and shortly followed by the first artist of the day Carson City, the guys Andy and Willie have been playing at the festival from day one and these guys certainly know how to create a fabulous atmosphere. They played two hour long slots they had the dancers on the floor, singing along and taken part in they're closing number "delilah". They had set the pace for what was going to be a great day. A fabulous atmosphere and a very relaxed happy feeling. The afternoon went so fast and before we knew it, it was 5pm and time to feed all the guys, over 100 dinners had been pre-booked and the kitchen staff Lainy, Jackie & Margo served them home made Steak pie, lasagne or macaroni.

The bootleggers kitchen ran like clockwork and all done and dusted in 33 min WOW a new record for the girls... well done By 6.15 it was time to get the dancers back on the floor, kicking off once again with me as DJ then it was the fantastic artist Natalie Thurlow. I can certainly see why Natalie won dedicated dance artist at the Crystal Boot Awards, she is a fantastic entertainer and can sing anything from Country to pop, and today she sang three 3/4 hour slotsgiving me some time to mingle with the crowds and even do the odd dance myself. I have to say I was delighted when Natalie sang 'Cecelia' and 'The Real Deal' Thank you for adding them to your set.

The evenings fun and atmosphere had carried on from the afternoon and before we knew it Natalie was on her last song, people had been coming to say goodbye and I couldn't believe it was 11pm. It was a fantastic day/evening and although I was being thanked for a great event, I cannot take all the credit because whilst I did the organisins it is the dancers that make the day a success. Finishing at 11.30pm everyone went away having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I woild like to say a little Thank you to Rachel, Lainy, Margo, Jackie, Kayleigh & Kathy for all your help and to my hubby Steve I couldn't do all this without you. To all who attended a BIGTHANK YOU I loved your company you made the day what it should be .. FUN... without your continuous support this would never happen .. until the next time !! Heather xxxxx Ps.. Date for your diary next year ... Saturday 11th Feb with Carson CIty & Richard Palmer same place same time xxxxxx

Cake By The Ocean

32 Count 4 Wall High Improver

96 Count 4 Wall Phrased High Intermediate

Music: Hey Hey Hallelujah (feat. Andy Grammer)" by Rachel Platten

Music:Cake By The Ocean" by DNCE

Choreographer Scott Blevins Choreographer: Rob Fowler, Dee Musk, Shelly Guichard and Conor McVeigh

This dance is going to be a great hit with dancers of all levels. It is easy enough for improvers and has some unusual steps to be of interest to intermediates and the fun upbeat music lends itself really well to the creative choreography. Sometimes dances with multiple choreographers can feel a little pieced together but the fluidity of this dance is a credit to the choreographers. There are no tags or restarts and the optional arm movements are a welcome addition to the dance.

Carla

Cake by the Ocean is a Phrased Line Dance with the sequence: ABB TAG ABBB TAG 2 BBB Usually I steer clear of phrased dances as they are often tricky and short lived and at first glance you can be forgiven for coming to the same conclusion, but on closer inspection Scott has been extremely clever with his choreography. Part A is quite nippy but it is only danced twice in the whole dance and cleverly both facing 12:00. Part B is flowing and fits well to the music and Scott has varied the timing to emphasise the beat. There are 2 easy tags A is so easy the class dont worry and tag B is fun so they like dancing it. About Feelings

32 Count 2 Wall Intermediate Music: Mixed Drink About Feelings" by Eric Church

Dance with wolves 32 Count 4 Wall Beginner/Improver Music:Balla Coi Lupi ; Dj Pedro ; Ladyland

Choreographer:Ira Weisburd (USA) Choreographer: Ria Vos

~I was looking round for a dance to teach this week and came across this dance. Beautiful country track and I havent taught a dance to a country track for a while so I thought I would give it a go. On first glance it's a 32 count 2 wall dance with 1 easy restart! Section 1 & 2 straight forward enough, little tricky with timing on section 3 and unusual steps on section 4. It flows beautifully and it was very well received by everyone

I am sure this dance will be very popular. First of all the music is very catchy and makes you want to get up on that dance floor. The wolf noises in the song brought a smile to my face and I am sure dancers will be adding their own howls! A big plus is there are no tags or restarts so you can just concentrate on putting lots of attitude in the dance. I love the steps, with kick ball crosses and a heel jack with syncopated weave. Plenty of scope to do hip movements. It is definitely a fun dance, nothing to catch anyone out and even though it is a beginner/improver dance I am sure that intermediate dancers will enjoy dancing it as well. The syncopation makes it an interesting dance. Since learning the dance and hearing the music, I can't stop humming it. That surely is a sign of success for any dance.

Here are our Hot picks and recommended dances for the month. This month we have split the scripts into levels to make it easy for you to choose a dance.

JOSE MIGUEL BELLOQUE VANE Jose has found success with his choreography and his first attempts was age 17 when he wrote a dance called Run It, music by Chris Brown and the dance was used for line dance competitions. The dance he is most proud of and the one he achieved the most success he choreographed with Daniel Trepat called 'And Get It On' , a dance that was very popular all over the world and is still requested and danced in the UK at socials.

This month, we are pleased to have been able to interview, choreographer Jose Miguel Belloque Vane. We asked him about his line dance career and choreography. Fron the age of 12 Jose began line dancing with Roy Verdonk at his Dutch Dance Academy. He joined with his brotherand his brother's girlfriend but also took classes in Hip Hop. By the age of 17 he was teaching in front of crowds of 400 people across Europe.

Jose tells us that he choreographs dances any time any where, whenever he gets the inspiration. He told our Love2Line reporter that he has been known to hear a piece of music at an airport and then go on to choreograph a dance in the bathroom whether still at the airport and on the plane.! He explains that when he listens to the music he closes his eyes and allows the music to inspire him. He tells that he likes all genre of music but it must evoke emotion and touch his feelings for him to be able to become inspired and for that reason he could choreograph to any genre of music country, chacha , jazz, waltz or pop.

Jose tells us how grategul he is to have had such a welcome into the line dance international circuit. "I have seen almost every country , many countries in Europe and Hong Kong , USA (Chicago windy city), Japan, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand and more. In all those wonderful places I meet many wonderful people. For example in Canada, I met Vivienne Scott and her husband Michael who invited me there for the first time. They showed me the city and we watched ice hockey games and they made me feel like they were my Canadian family. Like them there are many others I will never forget, I met so many people and everyone is so different and lovely and I have no words to thank all of them! They make me happy like I said it's one big dance family :)

Jose has decided to promote his own large event to celebrate his 30th Birthday he tells us 'It will be the 25th of March, 2016. Many choreographers are attending; Roy Verdonk(NL) Darren Bailey (UK) Fred Whitehouse (IR) Daniel Trepat (NL) Roy Hardisubroto(NL) Pedro Machado(UK) Guillaume Richard(FR) Raymond Sarlemijn(NO) Pim Van Grootel (SW) Wil Bos (NL) Sebastiaan Holtland(NL) DJ Henrik Gronvold(NO) Patricia Belloque Vane (NL). I am very happy knowing that almost all of my friends will be part of this weekend even though they are all busy themselves.

It's going to be a great weeking full of workshops and shows and fun! So dont miss it, only 400 people are allowed some invites have already gone out. Suzi from Love2Line is looking forward to attending this large dance event and I am sure there will be plenty of pictures in the magazine.

The One That Got Away Ellvie’s Escapees - Teacher & Dancer for over 20 years, she shares her passion for line dancing and finds hidden gems long since forgotten or never discovered.

This month's 'one that got away' I am afraid is another dance that I have only been able to do in my lounge. It is 'Mercy' , a 48 count, 4 wall, intermediate level line dance, choreographed by Kate Sala. The music it is written to is Mercy by Duffy. There are lots of reasons why I love this dance. Firstly the music is great to dance to. It has a good strong beat and is a very funky song. I also really love the steps that Kate has used such has heel bounces with 1/4 turn and toe, heel swivel, sailor step and hip sways which fit so well with the music. There is lots of scope to put plenty of attitude in this dance, funky moves to go with the funky music.

It isn't the easiest of dances having an 8 & 1 step at the end of many of the sections and there is a 3 count hold with a restart on Wall 6 after a 21 count but you can hear it coming up in the music and I think it adds to the quirkiness of the dance. I never saw this dance done in the classes I attended and feel very sad that it seems to have died a death. Certainly this is definitely a dance I would love to see resurrected so come on teachers why not give it a go - give your dancers a real treat.

LINE DANCE HEN PARTY BY CRAZY HAZY

12 February 2016, and regular attendees at Lesley Clark's monthly social in Cowdenbeath gathered as usual. One difference was that the hostess had been banned from the hall till 8pm to allow us to dress the hall in readiness for her surprise hen party. The dancers turned up with lovely pink bridal veils, feather boas, tutus, and all manner of pink froofy stuff to join in the fun. Lesley was quite overcome, but thankfully quickly got over that burst of emotion, and a fabulous fun filled night followed. We managed to get through 43 dances rather than the usual 50/55, but it was a party. We didn't have anything outrageous planned, but the 2 crews (close friends) got together and sang her a song which had been written especially for the occasion. The song mentioned something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. A bit of bling, a tenna lady pad, a bride cake topper, and about 15 knitted bananas were all gifted at appropriate times during the rendition. An absolute hoot, great fun, dreadful singing and loads of laughs. That, apart from the raffle, was the only break in the dancing, which, for most of the evening had a 'love' theme as can be seen by the playlist. Lesley is marrying Ian at the end of March, in Perth, Scotland, and there is a huge contingent of line dancers going, ( as well as non line dancing family and friends), so guaranteed a great mix of dances, and a full floor all night instead of just the last hour at normal weddings.
