LA SIERRA DE LOS FILABRES

LOCALIZATION •
The Sierra de los Filabres is the main mountainous massif of the province of Almeria, since it has a length of 63 km and a widht of 28 km,with a total area of 151.000 hectareas,although it is in Sierra Nevada,it forms the southern limit of the Almanzora Valley.
FLORA The Sierra de los Filabres was repopulated by the State Forest Administration and after the time oaks were added between Benizalon,Laroya and SerĂłn. The scrub formed by genistas and esparto,has a forest of pine and other plants that may have been:pennyroyal,zajareĂąa lance and thyme.
FAUNA
Among them highlights: the apollo butterfly,sparrows, swallows, airplanes, hawk, the common owl and much more,but the animals out in this mountain range are: the wild boar, the ibex and the deer
WEATHER •
There are areas that register their highest maximum rainfall in the spring and summer seasom,although in autumn there is no bad wather,but in winter it is cold since it is a mountain range that is located in the mountain.
VEGETATION •
In the vegetation stands out: Pumila Genista,Mugonesis, Primula,Elatior and Lafthousei,but mainly there are varieties of pine (such as wild, laricio, carrasco and negral).
IMPACTS ON THE LANDSCAPE
•Destruction of the forest:The current landscape is marked by process of severe erosion and denudation of the soil that are bein fought.
•Forest fires:The burning of wooded areas,scrublands and pastures in arid areas is more tragic.
•Marble quiarries:The extraction of marble has become the second source of income for the primary sector of Almeria,wich entails the creation of numerous jobs in the region.
HUMAN ACTIVITY •
In Calar Alto,municipality og Gergal,the HispanoGerman Astronomical Complex(Observatory Calar Alto)is located,in collaboration with the Astrophysics Institute of Andalucia.In the mountains there are 18 municipalities with a population of 14609 inhabitants (2006).As the most populated locality is Macael 6,200 inhabitants.
GEOLOGICAL FORMATION
The Sierra was repopulated with 60,000 hectareas of aleppo pine,laricio,wild,negral,oaks,quejigares and cork oaks and aromatic plants that we can find are: pennyroyal,zajareĂąa,lavender and thyme.
