Weick The PGA Tour, which began the 2019-2020 season with stops in places like West Virginia, United States; Jeju Island, Korea; Shanghai, China; and Playa del Carmen, Mexico; is headed to Florida for a nearly month-long tour of the state as touring professional golfers tee off at The Honda Classic, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS Championship, and Valspar Championship beginning late February 2020. Hosted by the PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Gardens, Florida, The Honda Classic will return to Palm Beach County the week of Feb. 24 through March 1, 2020. The 72-hole, stroke play tournament begins in earnest on Feb. 27 with a field of 144 players competing for a purse of $7 million and a winner’s share of roughly $1.26 million. The Honda Classic is set on the par-70, Champion Course reaching 7,110 yards in total and its defending champion, U.S.-based Keith Mitchell, scored 271 for the previous win. From there, the PGA Tour heads north to the Bay Hill Club & Lodge’s Championship Course in Orlando, Florida for the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard on March 2 through March 8, 2020. Formerly the Bay Hill Invitational, the Arnold Palmer Invitational features a par-72 course initially designed by Dick Wilson and then Arnold Palmer across 270 acres near the Butler Chain of Lakes. Players will compete for a purse of FLORIDAGOLFINFO.COM
$9.3 million in total, with a three-year TOUR exemption for the winner. Francesco Molinari of Italy is the defending champion of the tournament. The PGA Tour then heads just southeast of Jacksonville to the coastal town of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida for THE PLAYERS Championship held March 10 through March 15, 2020 at TPC Sawgrass. The tournament is held on THE PLAYERS Stadium Course designed by Pete Dye and Deane Beman, commissioner at the PGA Tour at the time. At 7,245 yards, the course favors balance and diversity, where no particular player of style of play has an advantage. Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland is the defending champion of the event boasting a total $12.5 million purse. Players then head to the Innisbrook, a Salamander Golf & Spa Resort, in Palm Harbor, Florida for the Valspar Championship held March 16 through March 22, 2020. Set on the roughly 7,200-yard Copperhead Course near Central Florida’s western coast, touring professionals will play for a purse of about $6.9 million in total among pines and rolling terrain. Paul Casey of England is the two-time defending champion. As the PGA Tour rounds out 2019-2020, it will travel to 21 states and countries, including Australia, Bermuda, Canada, China, Dominican Republic, England, Japan, Korea, Mexico, and Puerto Rico across the 46-event season.

First Coast Technically, Florida’s First Coast is not in the tropics. But for the thousands of visitors who flock to the five-county area and its dozens of world-class golf courses in Amelia Island, Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Clay County or Palm Coast -- especially those from Canada and the Northeast or Midwest United States -it’s close enough.
It will be comfortable. Braves and Blue Jays Take the Field in New Digs for 2020 Florida Spring Training Season The first year of a new decade of Major League Baseball Spring Training in the State of Florida finds two locations stepping up to the plate with a whole new look. While Dunedin has been a long-time Florida Grapefruit League destination for fans of the Toronto Blue Jays, TD Ballpark, located just south of downtown, in the quaint Tampa Bay area city, sports a new look. It’s been the only spring training home of the Blue Jays in the team’s 44-year existence, dating back to their origin in 1977. For fans of the Atlanta Braves, it’s still a straight shot down Interstate 75 from Georgia, but their final destination beginning this year will be Florida’s newest addition to the Grapefruit League roster, CoolToday Park in North Port. Among the renovations to TD Ballpark in Dunedin include an increased capacity from 5,500 to 8,500, renovation of bathrooms, concessions and suites, a new Jays Shop, Jr. Jays Zone and BBQ Tent. Fans can now stroll the perimeter of the Ballpark with the addition of a 360-degree boardwalk around the outfield. They can take a break from the afternoon sun in an air-conditioned bar along the third base line or enjoy Florida’s sunshine in an outdoor bar in right field. Special group areas have also been added in different areas.
While the ballpark has been renovated to meet the needs of the today’s fan experience, baseball enthusiasts still find themselves as close to the action as ever in one of the Florida Grapefruit League’s classic locations. There are also plenty of reminders at the park of the team’s history, as every player who has donned a Toronto Blue Jays uniform in the history of the franchise, has begun their seasons in Dunedin. Meanwhile in North Port, located in

South Sarasota County, the Atlanta Braves report for duty to CoolToday Park for the first time in 2020. This baseball mecca is nestled along the Interstate 75 corridor along a stretch that includes the Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota, the Tampa Bay Rays in Port Charlotte and the Boston Red Sox, and Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers. The 90-acre training complex offers a 360-degree concourse with views of surrounding areas and wide concourses allowing for easy access throughout the ballpark. There’s a variety of seating areas, with traditional grandstand theater seating, half-moon four top tables extending from foul territory into fair, with drink rails to the back, and a berm space in the left field corner. Fans can choose from two Terrace areas on each end of the grandstand’s second level featuring access to an air-conditioned space and a full-service bar. The corner Left Field Lounge is a multilayer group area with a dedicated menu and wait staff. It’s the 21st century Florida Grapefruit League Baseball experience. CoolToday Park offers plenty of reminders to fans they are at an Atlanta Braves spring-training game. With these two new and renovated Florida Grapefruit League facilities, it brings the number of updated ballparks to 10 in the state since 2010. It’s a question the co-founders of Orlandobased start-up, Spark Golf, ask all the time. The responses may vary – Of course! Duh. Who doesn’t?. But the resounding answer is always YES. People crave the time to play golf. “We know people want to play more golf and it’s our opportunity to help them figure out how to make that happen,’’ says Charlie Klaus, Co-Founder & CEO of Spark Golf. “We’ve spent a lot of time digging into the why. We want to understand why people don’t play more. We then want to help them by offering solutions to get them on the course more often.” Spark – a nationwide network of 9-hole, recreational golf leagues – has heard hundreds of reasons on why people don’t play more golf, and the business strategy centers around tackling the key barriers that prevent golfers from playing more golf. “We believe our new take on golf leagues incentivizes people to make time in their busy schedules,” says Klaus. Spark brings people together to play golf. Their leagues are more fun, more social and more organized than your everyday round of golf. Klaus adds, “We’ve learned that people will play more if it’s convenient, flexible and played in a fun atmosphere with others. Our modern golf league does this, and it’s all tied FLORIDAGOLFINFO.COM
together by technology in the Spark mobile app.” Spark started in Orlando, FL in 2018 with a few leagues to test their theories. After learning more about what gets people excited to play more golf, they built the Spark mobile app and launched their service across 30 cities the following year. In 2019, more than 3,000 people played over 13,000 rounds of Spark Golf. “We’re getting people off the couch and on the golf course.” says Klaus. Spark’s fun-loving brand attracts every level of golfer. Most being your 25-40 year-old, recreational golfer looking to have fun and indulge in a few adult beverages. In fact the average 9-hole score last year was almost 50! Going into the 2020 season, people will be able to play Spark Golf in over 40 cities as Spark continues to expand.
