International Business & Marketing major and graduate (2011) Lindsey Zion was highly involved in various programs and activities offered through the College of Business & Management: Beta Gamma Sigma (international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB-International), and CBM Student Advisory Council. Says Lindsey, “SVSU is a place where I can excel in the classroom and experience college life. I don’t think I could have accomplished all that I’ve done at a different university.” After an internship at Saginaw Future, Inc., an economic development corporation, Lindsey was offered a full-time position.

Mark Potts, J.D.

Teaching: Entrepreneurship Education: Undergraduate degrees from Michigan Tech and Ph.D. from Stanford University Major Accomplishments: Dr. Affholter has served in roles as a research leader and strategic adviser for The Dow Chemical Company, Midland, MI. He has also been involved with a start-up company, the biotech firm Maxygen, helping take the firm public on the NASDAQ exchange.

Additionally, he serves on the board of directors of several high tech firms as well as the non-profit organization, Water for Life – a group dedicated to providing healthy drinking water in the poorest and most disease-ridden corners of the earth.

Passion: “I am passionate about helping students discover their gifts and strengths, and develop personal leadership built upon those strengths.

I care about the role of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship play in a rapidly changing global marketplace. My objective it to help students become effective, creative participants in that marketplace — at home or abroad.”

Teaching: Organizational Behavior and Leadership Education: Undergraduate degree, Ghana; Master’s degree, Wales; Ph.D. from Michigan State University Major Accomplishments: Dr. Dankwa has received numerous university awards that recognize excellence in teaching and research. Much of his research involves his study of the emerging economies of West Africa. Dr. Dankwa has written more than 30 peer-reviewed articles that have appeared in scholarly journals and has given more than 50 presentations at management conferences.

Passion: “Last semester we launched a student program that engaged business, art, and theatre majors to work together to solve a common problem. I believe that these unique, cross-discipline experiences are extremely valuable for our students.”

Teaching: Strategic Management and International Business Education: Undergraduate degrees from Edison State College, NJ and National Lewis University, IL and Ph.D. from the University of Kansas

Teaching: Business Law and Assistant Dean for the College of Business and Management Education: Undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan; Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School

Major Accomplishments: In 2011, Dr. Puia was named a Distinguished Fellow of the Academy for Global Business Advancement, a life achievement award in recognition of his contributions worldwide to the advancement of knowledge in his field. Closer to home but an equal point of pride for Puia, is his role in assisting two recent SVSU honor students publish articles in leading international journals.

Major Accomplishments: Dr. Potts is a returned Peace Corps volunteer, having served as an economic development adviser in Bulgaria.

He is also a former speech writer to the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Solomon Passy. Dr. Potts taught as part of a Fulbright Program in Vienna, Austria and later worked for Generali Vienna Holding, A.G., analyzing insurance regulations and the company’s sales in Central and Eastern Europe.

Passion: “I love field-based learning for our students, especially overseas.

It is hard to overestimate the learning that occurs when students meet with executives and entrepreneurs in foreign settings. In the past few years, we have taken students to China, India, Russia, Eastern Europe, and Chile – all great places to learn business.”

Passion: “I think of myself as a key point of contact to assist students in their transition from high school to college and later from academia to their professional career. Nothing brings me greater satisfaction than helping students find an internship or their dream job, especially if that job is a result of them finding themselves or their passions along the way.”

With the Cardinal Business Edge Program you will: • Be a member of a limited community of 25 exceptional students who will meet at freshman orientation and then spend freshman and sophomore years working together, as a team, in exciting in-class and out-of-classes settings and experiences. (Residential students will be housed together, to further the camaraderie opportunities.)

• Be in selective classes with other Business Edge students that includes a 1-credit lab that involves corporate outings to meet business executives.

• Be mentored by a team of academic/business leaders, all with global experience and credentials.

• Be an international traveler with a travel stipend for a faculty-led study abroad experience to French-speaking Canada, Montreal and Quebec City.

• Be coached to define your team-building and leadership style, while highlighting your unique strengths. Such skills will help you in managing people and complex projects.

• Be given the tools to develop life skills that reach far beyond the classroom or degree program.
