Welcome to SVSU’s College of Education (COE)!
Your choice to pursue a career in education is not only commendable but also represents a significant step towards shaping a brighter future.
One of my favorite sayings is, “To teach is to touch the future.” Your generation’s passion for making a difference in the world is truly inspiring. A career in teaching is a vital path towards shaping a new and brighter future.
Within Saginaw Valley State University’s College of Education, nothing brings us more joy than witnessing the graduation of successful teaching candidates who go on to enter the classrooms of tomorrow and leave a lasting impact on the future. Our graduates are fully prepared with 500 hours of experience in K-12 classrooms so they are fully prepared to lead.
As a member of the College of Education at SVSU, you are not just joining an academic institution; you are becoming a part of a community dedicated to nurturing your success. Our commitment to excellence is evident through initiatives like the Literacy Center, STEM@SVSU, and the Morris Hood Jr. Educator Development Program. These programs enhance our pledge to make a lasting impact on education.
To enrich your experience, I encourage you to engage with education-related student organizations such as the Student Council for Exceptional Children, Aspiring Educators of Michigan, and Teaching All Language & Literacy. Joining such groups not only fosters connections but also offers opportunities to learn from advisors and peers who share your passion.
For more details on these programs and additional opportunities, please explore our website. Our office, located on the second floor of Gilbertson Hall, operates on an “open door” policy, welcoming your inquiries. If you have any questions, you may reach us anytime at coeconnect@ svsu.edu or (989) 964-4057.
Once again, welcome to SVSU! Your journey here holds immense promise, and we are thrilled to accompany you on this educational voyage.
Best regards,
Dr. James Tarr, Ph.D. Dean, College of Education at SVSUin Teacher Education career paths
