SKYLINE
Skyline High School is a traditional 9-12 grade high school with a diverse population of more than 1375 students. With support from St. Vrain Valley Schools, Skyline has implemented Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and Visual Performing Arts (VPA) academies that serve as a “school of choice” in these areas to better engage students. Skyline focuses on relevant, technology-based, career-oriented curriculum so students are prepared for the competitive global economy. Through innovative technology-based programs, students are engaged and become critical thinkers and creative learners. The Skyline Falcons are rich in tradition and are proud of the vision and direction created for our future.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND HONORS
Skyline boasts 17 Advanced Placement (AP) classes by College Board trained teachers and offers a college level curriculum. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit, save on tuition, and graduate from college early. AP courses are challenging, rigorous, in-depth and prepares students to succeed in college. As a Colorado AP Legacy grant recipient, Skyline continuously works to expand the number of AP courses. Visit our website for current course offerings. A sampling of the courses are: AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Literature, AP Music Theory, AP Physics, AP Studio Art and AP World History. Skyline offers eight weighted Honors courses in math, science, English and social studies.
FRONT RANGE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Skyline is fortunate to have a strong relationship with Front Range Community College and offers nine courses at Skyline in which students can receive both high school and transferable college credit. Classes include Intro to Literature, Psychology, Criminal Justice, English Composition and Economics.

TECHNOLOGY
Skyline is fortunate to offer robust technology integration throughout all programs. Students have access to iPads, MacBooks and Chromebook carts which are available for classroom use. There is a World Language lab, two computer science labs, a digital photo lab and a music technology lab. Our STEM rooms have a 3D printer and laser cutter, and each STEM student has the opportunity to have a laptop while they are enrolled in the STEM program.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND PARTNERSHIPS Community support and partnerships are an important component to the success of Skyline, the STEM Academy, the VPA Academy and the Computer Science program. Partnerships provide Skyline with opportunities to connect with valuable mentors, educational resources, internship opportunities and financial support all while advancing our students and school. BOOSTERS AND FOUNDATION
Skyline Boosters champion students to grow personally, emotionally and compassionately at Skyline and in the community. Boosters raise funds to support students and staff through funding the “spirit can,” post prom and dinners for staff on parent teacher conference nights. The Skyline Education Foundation supports Skyline faculty and students through scholarships and grants. Students can apply for scholarships and grants that support academic and athletic financial needs, or AP test fees.

The mission of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academy at Skyline High School is to help students realize their potential for success in STEM careers by supporting their exploration of STEM related fields, encouraging the development of 21st century skills, and by providing them with a head start in pursuing their post-secondary education. Skyline’s STEM Academy transforms teaching and learning by providing students with rigorous and innovative opportunities that connect their training between school, community and our global society. STEM Academy students have the opportunity to earn guaranteed admission to the University of Colorado (CU) College of Engineering. STEM students will: • Utilize advanced technology and equipment in their STEM courses • Investigate a wide variety of STEM related fields such as robotics, biomechanics, renewable energy, structural engineering and computer science • Interact with professional scientists and engineers • Design and build advanced engineering projects in Skyline’s advanced Fabrication Laboratory and the labs at the Innovation Center • Create a senior design presentation for the CU College of Engineering Design Expo • Earn a STEM certificate upon graduation, signifying a readiness for success in post-secondary education Courses: Ninth Grade: Explorations in STEM Tenth Grade: Robotics, Assistive Technologies, Sustainable Design, Structural Design Eleventh Grade: Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, Hovercraft Design, App Design, Electronics Twelfth Grade: Senior Design Project

VPA
The mission of the Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VPA) is to provide a rigorous, comprehensive, and technologyinfused arts program that will prepare our students for postsecondary education, careers, or other creative fields, and instill a life-long appreciation for the arts. As the only 9-12 Arts Academy in St. Vrain Valley Schools, Skyline is able to offer a wide variety of courses in the visual arts, music, theater and dance classes. The VPA provides a challenging interdisciplinary curriculum which inspires academic and artistic excellence for a culturally diverse population. We are committed to a personalized atmosphere of self-esteem, respect, enthusiasm and cooperation. Students learn to build both theoretical and practical foundations, expand their vision, and explore new avenues of expression. Skyline offers multiple opportunities and venues to perform music, drama and dance. We believe that the practice and study of performance provide a crucial window into history and culture that deepens our understanding of diverse human experience throughout time and around the world. Rigorous critical study and disciplined aesthetic practice of these artistic mediums provide vital modes of inquiry that advance knowledge. All students in the academy are given unique opportunities to collaborate with local artists and performers, on-site internship opportunities, and attending special VPA events.

COMPUTER
SCIENCE
The Skyline Computer Science Department offers a variety of computer science classes. With an emphasis on creative problem solving, the courses offered allow students to choose their own focus and develop projects that meet their particular interests and needs. Skyline computer science blends science and art, making it the perfect place to find students from both the Skyline STEM and VPA programs. The curriculum offers multiple opportunities for the visual presentation of data and digital art.
STEM
Students who take computer science at Skyline learn how to use the UNIX terminal. Being able to navigate and change a filesystem via the terminal is a very employable skill.
COMPUTER PROGRAMMING CLUB
The Programming Club has a long history of cutting edge work in a variety of digital mediums and programming fronts. Members of the Skyline Programming Club run their own dedicated server and create their apps from the ground up on a Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP stack. The club encourages both students and their families to come to Skyline for help with both software and hardware problems. Helping others is a standard practice and former students continue the practice by mentoring current Computer Science students on the Skyline Programming Club Forums.
APPLYING THE SKILLS
Computer science students at Skyline have led the way in building strong relationships with our community. In the past, several students have held full-time summer jobs programming with local companies. Additionally, our current Mobile Apps Development Team works to develop form based, cloud-hosted mobile applications. Courses: Intro to Programming, Intro to Computing, Tech 1, Computer Science, AP Computer Science, Advanced Engineering IV: Applied Software Design Opportunities also include working at the Innovation Center.

Athletics: Skyline athletics’ mission is to provide student athletes with the tools and opportunities to demonstrate pride, respect, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership for success in an ever-changing, competitive world. Skyline offers 20 interscholastic athletic programs. Each of these programs offer opportunities at the sub-varsity level for students to participate and cultivate their skills, discipline and commitment. Skyline is proud to offer a wide variety of clubs and co-curricular activities that foster growth, collaboration and respect. These activities are offered to students at all grade levels and take place outside normal school hours. Students who participate in co-curricular activities find a network of peers and adults who have similar interests and talents to their own. Through participation, students develop a range of skills and attributes that will prepare them to succeed in various roles during and after high school. Activities range from programming and robotics to music and the arts allowing students to find an activity that enhances what they are learning in the classroom. Skyline offers the following clubs and activities: Art Club, Computer Club, Drama Club, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Film Club, National Art Honor Society, National Honor Society, Newspaper Club, Peer Tutoring, Robotics Club, Stage Tech, Student Council, VPA Student Advisory and Yearbook.
