EMAIL: VARGAS_PETER@SVVSD.ORG Frederick is a traditional 9-12 grade high school with a diverse population of more than 1,000 students. The Frederick High School staff creates a spirit of collaboration, cooperation and acceptance. Strong relationships foster a commitment to rigor and high expectations in all pursuits. Frederick provides a positive and safe environment that gives students and staff the opportunity to learn, lead and achieve excellence. Through an exciting partnership with CU Denver, students have the opportunity to take college courses to earn high school and college credit concurrently.

The Interactive Media program is designed to provide 21st century career and technical education skills that promote collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking. The program incorporates STEM pathways into interactive media. Designed to teach students a variety of different digital media technologies, the program includes desktop publishing and design, photography, video production, web design and computer animation. In beginning courses, students are introduced to the basic skills and computer programs that they would encounter in a creative digital workplace. In advanced courses, students are preparing for careers in creative and digital fields.

Frederick is fortunate to offer robust technology integration throughout all programs. As part of the Learning Technology Plan, students have access to iPads to support instruction and technology integration which provides students with opportunities to participate in rich learning experiences that expand beyond the classroom walls. Additionally, there are two computer labs, a digital photo lab, a music technology lab and MacBook and Chromebook carts. The library is home to a 3D printer and laser cutter.


Frederick offers rigorous academic programs, as well as a variety of core classes and electives including the arts and Mandarin Chinese and Spanish as world languages. The CU Succeed program is a partnership with the University of Colorado Denver that provides students access to university courses. The Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Academy is a four-year, hands-on comprehensive program that prepares students for careers in the field of medicine.

Community support and partnerships are an important component to the success of Frederick. The Frederick Education Foundation is an all volunteer organization focused on providing educational opportunities for students, alumni and staff at Frederick High by raising funds through partnerships and community support. The Music Foundation’s purpose is to provide support and aid to the instrumental and choral music programs at Frederick High and to the current and future students who participate in these programs. The Frederick Booster Club is a parent-run volunteer group dedicated to the support of the student body, organizations, clubs, arts and athletics at Frederick High.

In partnership with CU Denver, Frederick High offers students the opportunity to complete challenging university coursework and earn concurrent high school and college credits through the University of Colorado Denver. CU Succeed Gold courses are select introductory courses from CU Denver and have the same content, quantity and quality of work. These courses are evaluated to the same high standards. This program provides Frederick High students with the opportunity to gain exposure to college-level coursework and ultimately reduce the time and expense of a four year degree. Students receive a discounted tuition rate for CU Gold courses.

CU Succeed Program

Frederick offers 11 CU Succeed Gold courses including Introductory Statistics, Introduction to Physics, Introduction to Environmental Sciences, Introduction to Political Science, American Political Systems, Introduction to Psychology 1 and 2, Introduction to Sociology, Music Theory 1, Literary Studies and Creative Writing.

Advanced Placement (AP)

Frederick offers 15 AP classes taught by College Board trained teachers and offers a college level curriculum with college credit. AP courses are rigorous, in-depth and prepare students to succeed in college. Sample courses include: AP Psychology, AP Biology, AP Statistics and AP English Language and Composition.

Honors

Frederick offers eight weighted Honors courses in science, math, social studies and English.

Front Range Community College

Frederick also partners with Front Range Community College and offers four courses where students can earn both high school and transferable college credit.

Project Lead the Way prepares students for the global economy through world-class activities, projects and problem based curriculum. Highly qualified teachers and an engaged network of educators help students succeed in future educational and career goals. Knowledge in the biomedical field paves the way for a wide range of careers. Students can explore careers in pharmaceuticals, chemistry, nursing and medicine. This is an excellent career path and students can earn a biomedical certificate. Courses are challenging and require a deep understanding of how to apply science, technology, engineering and math to solve complex problems.

Students enrolled in this program follow the course schedule during the four year program. Freshman: Principles of Biomedical Science and Biology Sophomore: Human Body Systems and Chemistry Junior: Medical Interventions and AP Biology Senior: Capstone Course- Biomedical Innovation and Anatomy with internships

Frederick offers a wide variety of clubs and co-curricular activities that foster growth, collaboration and respect. These activities are open to students at all grade levels and take place outside normal school hours. Frederick’s clubs and co-curricular activities include: Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Forensics, MESA Club, National Honor Society, Robotics Club, Student Council, Stage Tech, Superintendent Student Advisory Committee, Thespian and Yearbook.

Frederick offers a challenging curriculum supported by strong electives which enhance academic and artistic education for the school’s diverse population. These electives also provide students with the opportunity to perform, develop leadership skills and collaborate with students who have similar interests. Frederick High offers opportunities in Fine Arts and Performing Arts, including robust offerings in band, choir, orchestra and theater. Frederick performs over 30 events and concerts annually in the state-of-the art 750-seat auditorium. Additionally, Frederick High offers the only Hand Bells program among St. Vrain Valley high schools. Frederick offers 18 interscholastic athletic programs. These programs provide students with the tools and skills to demonstrate respect, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership. Each program offers opportunities at the junior varsity level for students to participate and cultivate their skills, discipline and commitment.
