LYONS
At Lyons Middle/Senior, we believe in: excellence in learning, excellence in teaching, excellence in participation and excellence in athletics and fine arts. Lyons Middle/Senior prepares students for academic success by providing a seamless transition between middle school and high school. Middle school and high school-aged students have multiple opportunities for positive interaction and involvement between the different age groups through leadership development and character education.
CSU ONLINE PARTNERSHIP
Lyons High School offers students the opportunity to take college level coursework online through its partnership with Colorado State University. Students participate in a blended learning environment by meeting with a class facilitator at school every day and by engaging with their online classmates. Students can earn both high school and college credit for these classes.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
“Lyons is more than a school, it’s a community and a family. There are many advantages of a small school, the teachers really care about the students and the education is top notch. You know everyone in your grade and you can make friends easily. The Lyons experience is the best!”
MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMICS
Middle school students at Lyons Middle/Senior High School benefit from high-quality, daily instruction in each of the four core subjects of language arts, math, science and social studies. Advanced classes in both language arts and math allow students to excel in these academic areas. In math, students have the option of taking algebra and geometry before moving on to high school. Collaborative teams among instructors focus on individual student growth and help differentiate lessons to meet students’ academic, social and emotional needs. The elective offerings highlight the importance of the arts. On the performance side, opportunities include choir, band and drama. Other electives, such as art, foreign language, physical education, technology and computer programming offer opportunities for students to enhance their technological skills and creativity. Our small school size ensures that the needs of each student are met. Students learn and grow in a supportive and adaptive environment - everyone is part of our “educational family.”

STEM
SPOTLIGHT
Our middle school STEM Explorers program usually includes one to two hands-on projects per school year. Because our focus varies from year to year, middle school students can stay involved throughout their middle school career without repeating the same project twice. Over the past five years, students have engaged in projects focusing on space science, physics, conservation biology, renewable energy, robotics and computer programming. As part of these projects, students have conducted simulated missions to Mars, built and launched model rockets, studied pollinator decline with scientists from CU Boulder, built their own electricity-generating wind mills, and designed and programmed their own miniature robots.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Lyons offers a variety of clubs and co-curricular activities at the middle school level. These activities foster meaningful relationships, academic achievement and individual pride for students. Through participation, students develop a range of skills that prepare them to succeed. Middle School Activities Art, Band, Choir, Drama, Foreign Language, Geography Bee, Helpmate Tutoring, MESA, Spelling Bee, Student Council and Yearbook Middle School Intramurals Basketball, cross country, track, volleyball and wrestling

BAND
SPOTLIGHT
Lyons Middle/Senior High School is proud to have a strong band tradition with nearly 35 percent of the total student population (grades 6-12) participating in the band program. Since 2002, Lyons has had multiple students selected every year to participate in one or more of the All-State ensembles, all of which feature Colorado’s most exceptional high school musicians. One of the unique benefits of band at Lyons is that kids spend up to 7 years with their peers in a supportive, rigorous and energetic program. Because of this stability, students in band have consistently higher GPA’s, a higher graduation rate, and higher rates of other extracurricular activity participation than non-band students. The Lyons Band celebrates not just the school, but the entire community of Lyons, Colorado.
HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
At Lyons High School, students are highly encouraged to participate in a wide variety of athletics and co-curricular activities. Currently, over 80 percent of our students participate in at least one activity outside of the classroom. High School Co-Curricular Activities: Art, Band, Choir, Drama, Helpmate Tutoring, Mountain Biking Club, National Honor Society, Robotics, Student Council and Yearbook High School Athletics: Basketball, baseball, cheer, cross country, football, softball, track, volleyball and wrestling
SPOTLIGHT ON CROSS COUNTRY
Cross country and track programs play an important role in the lives of many of our students, teaching them about goal-setting, the importance of consistent hard work and giving back to our sport and town. A byproduct of these expectations has been outstanding results with 12 state championships and 11 runner-up finishes since 2002. Involvement in extracurricular activities fuels strong achievement in the classroom, and provides one more support system to help parents and teachers motivate students and encourage positive personal growth. All are welcome, and all find a way to contribute to the success of the team.
