MEAD
The original Mead High School served the community from 1917 to 1961. The new high school, built in 2009, continues to serve the students in Mead and the greater St. Vrain Valley community. Mead High School is dedicated to providing an education for today’s learners that will prepare them for an ever-changing world of work and play in this information and technology age. Our school culture promotes continuous learning for both staff and students. We value and teach creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND PARTNERSHIPS
Community support and partnerships are an important component to the success of Mead High. Mead Rotary is a community partner that promotes student achievement through Student of the Month recognition. They are strong student advocates and supporters of student learning and leadership opportunities. Mead Chamber of Commerce and City Council support students through athletic and academic activities while highlighting student and school achievement, and promoting the school within the Mead community.
TECHNOLOGY
Mead offers robust technology integration throughout all programs. The school is proud to be a district leader in providing access to 1:1 iPad instruction and integration. Students have opportunities to participate in rich learning environments that will empower them to be lifelong learners and to be prepared for postsecondary success.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT AND HONORS
Mead High School offers multiple advanced placement courses in all four core areas and encourages students to pursue the highest level of academic learning. Students have the opportunity to earn college credit, save on tuition and graduate from college early. AP courses are challenging, rigorous and prepare students for success in postsecondary education. Mead is also an AP Capstone school offering students an option to enroll in an innovative diploma program. This program provides students with an opportunity to engage in rigorous scholarly practice of the core academic skills necessary for successful college completion. Mead offers a variety of weighted Honors courses in math, science, English and social studies which prepare students for AP courses.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT
Concurrent enrollment provides students the opportunity to complete college level coursework, begin their official college transcript and ultimately reduce time and expense of a two or four year college degree. Students complete rigorous coursework and earn concurrent high school and college credits at a discounted tuition rate.
CU GOLD SUCCEED
In partnership with CU Denver, students have the opportunity to receive instruction from Mead High teachers who are certified as college level instructors. CU Succeed Gold courses are select courses that have the same content, quantity and quality of work and are evaluated by the same high standards as college courses.
COMMUNITY COLLEGE PARTNERSHIPS
Mead is fortunate to have a strong relationship with Front Range Community College and Aims Community College. Mead offers a variety of courses in which students can receive both high school and transferable college credit.

FOCUS PROGRAM
ENERGY
The Mead Energy Academy is dedicated to preparing students to impact the nation’s ability to lead the world in the energy industry. The Mead Energy Academy, in partnership with Mead Elementary and Middle School, will equip future leaders to be innovators in an increasingly diverse energy industry. The Mead Energy Academy requires core courses while offering a choice between academic college-bound coursework and practical workforceready coursework. Students will explore industry standards in wind, oil and gas, coal, geothermal, solar, nuclear, hydroelectric, conservation, biomass and consumption.
MEAD ENERGY ACADEMY SENIOR CAPSTONE
Along with rigorous coursework, Mead Energy Academy seniors will design and complete a capstone project. This project will include mentor relationships with energy focused organizations and a final presentation. During the capstone experience, students interact with energy professionals, apply modern technology in their design project and develop skills needed in the workplace. ART, MUSIC AND THEATER
Mead is home to vibrant art, music and theater programs that prepare students for careers and installs an appreciation for the arts. The rapidly growing programs continue to develop and introduce new courses.
ART PROGRAMS
Mead High School’s Fine Art curriculum challenges students to think creatively, encourages risk-taking and enables students to apply their problem solving skills beyond the classroom. A wide variety of classes and levels are offered, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, crafts, studio art and photography. Mead’s talented students have earned countless scholarships and have been recognized in national competitions.
MUSIC PROGRAMS
Mead students have the opportunity to participate in beginner and advanced level music programs. Each year, there are a number of students who attain All State honors in band, choir and orchestra. Band: Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble and Symphonic Band Orchestra: Orchestra, String Orchestra (Chamber Orchestra) and Symphonic Orchestra Choir: A Cappella/Jazz Choir, Chamber Choir, Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir and Women’s Ensemble
THEATER PROGRAMS Mead High offers Drama 1 for general elective credit that is open to anyone. Drama 2 and Musical Theater are production courses that alternate biannually. Production courses teach students about the comprehensive theater experience and provide opportunities to get involved in every aspect of producing a show, from choreography to publicity.

COUNSELING
The Mead counseling team provides excellent post-secondary planning and counseling for students. All students complete four year plans, and have the opportunity to participate in Advanced Placement, concurrent enrollment and college entrance exams. Parents and students have access to Naviance, an online system that helps students align their academic goals and career interests with postsecondary readiness. Mead hosts an annual college fair that brings in admission specialists from around the state. In addition, Mead High has a strong contingency of students who attend the St. Vrain College Fair that hosts colleges and universities from across the nation. Each graduating class of Mead High earns hundreds of thousands of dollars in athletic and academic scholarships.
BOOSTERS AND FOUNDATION
Mead Boosters support the school community and is led by engaged and passionate parents. Boosters raise funds for classroom academic support, athletic opportunities, clubs, organizations, dances and after prom events. The newly formed Mead Education Foundation provides time, talent and money to support students and staff. This important group accepts applications to fund a variety of needs and programs that may be beyond the scope of the school budget. Visit the website to learn more and to get involved.

ATHLETICS
Athletics are an integral part of the school community. There are high expectations that Mead athletes uphold the mission to Ignite, Inspire and Challenge. Mead develops student athletes who reach their full academic, leadership and athletic potential. Mead offers 15 interscholastic athletic programs. Each of these programs offers opportunities at the sub-varsity level for students to participate, cultivate their skills and develop self-discipline. Mead is proud to offer a wide variety of clubs and co-curricular activities that foster growth, collaboration and respect. These activities are offered to students at all grade levels and take place outside normal school hours. Mead students are highly encouraged to participate in club and volunteer opportunities within the school and greater community. Students create a network of peers and adults who have similar interests and talents. Through participation, students develop a range of skills and attributes that parepares them to succeed in various roles during and after high school. Mead High offers: Film Club, French Club, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, Future Business Leaders of America, International Thespian Society, MESA, National Honor Society, Posse Mentoring Club, Student Council and Yearbook.
