We welcome local rivals Billingham Boro Rangers to the Sportdrome this afternoon. It’s two weeks since our defeat in the local derby, I take it as a compliment that Synners had to call in players to make sure they didn’t lose to us. They out battled us on the day but would have been down to 8 men had the referee taken action on the thrown punch, the raised hands and the stamp, all of which she had to see as she gave free kicks for the offences. All that said we need to be stronger and “earn the right to play” was the lesson to be learnt from the game. Last week awat to league leaders Redcar Town in awful conditions we dug in and worked hard. The feeling from the managers was that defensively we did well, Man of the match Andy Martin pulled off some great one on one saves in the 1st half and continued to do well into the 2nd half. The back four generally defended well and restricted Town to only a few chance. Dave and Naz in the middle were excellent but it was with the ball we were poor, failing to get quality possession and ball wide to Lav n Bayesy. As in a lot of our games lately the ball to the front two was either over hit, under hit or too slow. We have 4 games left, this arguably being the hardest, to start preparing for next season. We really think we are not too far off being a decent side if we can keep this young squad together. Off the pitch we have another exciting announcement to come in the very near future and possibly a second. Our Juniors also have some MASSIVE news to unveil. Just need to do it on the pitch as well fellas!
COME ON BLUES !!!!
A CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB
5
2010 / 2011
The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012
With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013
A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.
The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014
We
started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105
A NEW NAME……..
BILLINGHAM FC
Now
going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Foot and Ankle Tendonitis Foot and ankle tendonitis is a common cause of foot pain, occurring when there is inflammation or irritation of the tendons, usually due to overuse or injury. Foot and ankle tendonitis can affect any of the tendons in the foot resulting in conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis and Extensor Tendonitis. It usually takes 2-3 months to recoverfrom foot tendonitis, but can take longer without the proper treatment. Here we will look at what happens to tendons when they get damaged and the most common types of foot and ankle tendonitis including symptoms and treatment options What is Tendonitis? Tendons are the strong, cord-like bands of connective tissue that link muscles to bone. If a tendon is made to work too hard, for too long or in the wrong way, damage and tiny tears develop in the tendon. This is accompanied by inflammation which is the tell tale sign of tendonitis. The body’s normal response to an injury is to send extra red blood cells carrying the oxygen and nutrients required for healing and white cells to fight off possible infection. Waste products such as inflammatory chemicals are then carried away. All of this helps speed up healing but should only last for a few days. But if an area is repeatedly irritated, the process keeps going resulting in the continued inflammation described as tendonitis. Causes of Tendonitis There are four main causes of foot and ankle tendonitis: Overuse: Foot tendonitis most commonly occurs when the tendon is repeatedly overloaded i.e. being asked to work too hard, or it is repeatedly over-stretched. Inry: Tendonitis can develop after any foot or ankle injury eg a sprain, or from repetitive friction on the tendon eg from a shoe rubbing. Abnormal Foot Structure: If your foot is an abnormal shape eg flat foot or high arches, it can put more stress on the tendons resulting in foot tendonitis. Medical Conditions: Some inflammatory conditions such as gout and rheumatoid arthritis can cause foot tendonitis. The symptoms of foot and ankle tendonitis will vary according to the location, severity and stage of the tendonitis. The most common symptoms of tendonitis are: Pain is usually the first sign that there is a problem. It is usually a sharp and/or burning pain, usually localised to the area of the tendon at first but as the condition worsens, can spread wider. Pain is usually worse with initial movement, settles down after a minute or so, but then returns as you do more. For example, your first few steps when you get out of bed will really hurt, but the pain will then ease up. But as you are on your feet for longer, the pain will return. It usually takes a while for swelling to develop with foot tendonitis. After a few weeks of minor symptoms, you may notice a soft lump forming over the tendon, which is often tender to touch. This is most common in Achilles Tendonitis. The foot and ankle often becomes stiff as a result of foot tendonitis limiting the amount of pain-free movement. Treatment Options There are two aims of treatment for ankle tendonitis. The first is to reduce the pain, swelling and dysfunction associated with foot tendonitis. The second is to address any aggravating factors that can be avoided to prevent the problem from returning such as abnormal foot shapes or muscle weakness and tightness. With any type of ankle tendonitis, it is vital to rest the foot to prevent 9 further damage and to allow recovery. Any activity that increases pain should be avoided if possible. PRICE principles should be followed (protect, rest, ice, compression and elevation) and anti-inflammatory medication may help.
