Will the real Billingham FC please step forward. A lack of consistency from game to game is what I started the last “View from the Dug Out” and our Monday night game against Yarm was no different, we fielded a strong starting line up and again had a great turn out so we had a strong bench but our 1st half performance especially defensively was VERY poor, 2 very soft goals and a good finish saw us 3-1 down after we had scored a great goal. Second half we played some fantastic football and wore a fit Yarm side down with our passing. A completely different performance 2nd half and one which was not only pleasing on the eye but effective, we scored 2 goals and on the 2nd half performance I felt we deserved the win. We need to take lots from the game…. The confidence to play the way Ian & I want you to play and the way we set up to play, that we can out play good teams when we have confidence and pass the ball, that we can score goals and match teams AND that we cannot defend the way we have so far and expect to win games. We have said that when we play football not many teams can match or stay with us… I’ve seen nothing so far this season to change that until we played an EXCELLENT Boro Rangers, sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say the were better than us. We can learn from that by looking at their work ethic on and off the ball.... ALL their players, even the “STAR” players out a real shift in! Great Ayton was pleasing in that we carried on our football, despite changes and were very unlucky to be knocked out of the Mac Millan bowl by a 1st division side. The cup game against Loftus was very disappointing when we again beat ourselves... We need to learn from mistakes and even when we make one, not compound it by 3 or 4 more. The County cup provides an opportunity to make new friends and see how other leagues go about their business, we welcome Ferry Hill Town from the Durham Alliance and hope it starts a link between the two clubs!
COME ON
BLUES!!!!!! A CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB
5
2010 / 2011 The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013 A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.
The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105
A NEW NAME…….. BILLINGHAM FC
Now going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Benefits of Sports & Remedial Massage Sports massage has several benefits and should be a major part of every sports manor woman’s life whether they are injured or not. The benefits are physical, physiological and psychological. Overall, sports massage helps to keep the body in better condition,
prevent injuries and loss of mobility as
well as cure and restore mobility to injured muscle tissue. It also helps to boost performance and extend the overall life of your sporting career. Physical Effects of Sports Massage Pumping: The movements of massage help to suck fluid through the blood vessels and lymph vessels by increasing the pressure in front of the stroke, a vacuum is created behind. In tight or damaged muscle tissue this is very important as damaged muscles are deprived of the vital nutrients that are essential for repair. Increased tissue permeability: Deep massage causes the pores in tissue membranes to open, enabling fluids and nutrients to pass through. This then helps to remove waste products such as lactic acid and encourage the muscles to take up oxygen and nutrients which help them recover quicker. Stretching: Massage can stretch tissues that could not be stretched in the usual methods. Bundles of muscle fibres are stretched lengthwise as well as sideways. Massage can also stretch the sheath or fascia that surrounds the muscle, so releasing any tension or pressure build up. Break down scar tissue: Scar tissue is the result of previous injuries or trauma and can effect muscle, tendons and ligaments. This can lead to inflexible tissues that are prone to injury and pain. Improve tissue elasticity: Hard training can make tissues hard and inelastic. This is one reason why hard training may not result in improvements. Massage helps reverse this by stretching the tissues. Physiological Effects of Sports Massage Pain reduction: Tension and waste products in muscles can often cause pain. Massage helps reduce this in many ways including releasing the body’s endorphins. Muscles relax through heat generated, circulation and stretching. Relaxation: Mechanoreceptors which sense touch, pressure, tissue length and warmth are stimulated causing a reflex relaxation. Psychological Effects of Sports Massage Anxiety reduction: through the effects mentioned above relaxation is induced and so reduces anxiety levels.

Our Juniors are well under Way and reports of not only good results but good performances had the managers and coaches buzzing at the monthly meeting. It’s great to see all the managers/coaches at the meetings from our development manager, new managers and the adult team managers all with the clubs best interests at heart. The teams playing at Synthonia CC and Cowpen CC had only positive messages to say about the venues and having been down to Cowpen CC myself, I agree a great venue for some of our younger teams! The club October FUNdraiser is a Magician and Hypnotist night along with pie and peas, GREAT value at £10 and as ever will have the Billingham Juniors touch which always makes it special. The evening will be held at the Swan on October the 17th and will start at 7:30.... Tickets are available from managers coaches and team managers
We have developed relationships through friendlies and county cup games across the North East in particular Birtley St Josephs, Whickham SC, Coxhoe Athletic and Redcar Athletic. This Year we had friendlies against Bishop Auckland Res, Annfield Plain, and Hartlepool FC As a management team we see this as part of the squads development on and off the field.
