As we said before the Redcar Athletic game following the disappointing result and performance against Middleton Rangers we have had a fantastic reaction by the lads... Turning up in good numbers for both games and training, this showed in our 1st half performance against Redcar as we were fantastic with and without the ball, creating some fantastic chances but failing to put them away. Despite that a poor 2nd half performance saw us concede 3 and never look good enough to go on and win the game, something we need to learn from. Away to high flying Loftus and Yarm saw the same squad attitude and numbers. Two good mature performances. The Loftus game saw us defend well, riding a bit of luck at times, but going on to score in the last 5 minutes to take 3 points. Last week against Yarm we worked hard defended well and created some good chances. The 1st goal was offside in my opinion but we kept going and were unlucky to go in 1-0 down. We then put the same performance into the 2nd half, not something we normally do. Even after going 2-0 down following a really good finish we kept going with Jow pulling one back. We should take confidence from these performances and realise when we turn up we are as good as anyone in the division BUT we must turn up and turn up for the whole game. On a different note the squad has taken another step forward off the field after receiving a grant from the Teesside Philanthropic Society to buy warm up/ training kit for the whole squad. Well done to Greavsey for getting the grant on our behalf,

A CHARTER STANDARD DEVELOPMENT CLUB

2010 / 2011

The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012

With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated. 2012 / 2013

A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick.

The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 2013 / 2014

We

started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments …… Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham behind Ash Lavan. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line 2014/2105

A NEW NAME……..

BILLINGHAM FC

Now

going into our 5th season we welcome the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. We have introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior Let’s see what this season brings!!!

Concussion Research shows that athletes who have repeated concussions are more likely to get long-term brain damage, including a condition known as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease that mimics dementia. In a concussion, the brain shakes so forcefully that it hits the inside of the skull. That injures the brain. Symptoms of a concussion can include: loss of consciousness drowsiness confusion headache nausea or vomiting blurred vision loss of memory of events surrounding the injury. If a concussion leaves someone unconscious for more than a few minutes, the concussion is clearly serious. But sometimes even seemingly mild concussions can do damage. "A minor hit on the field can take a long time to recover," says Mark Lovell, PhD, founding director of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Sports Medicine Concussion Program. Signs Poor balance or coordination Slow or slurred speech Poor concentration Delayed responses to questions Vacant staring off Deterioration in sport performance Unusual emotions and / or personality change Treatment Do not play any contact sports such as football or rugby for at least three weeks without talking to your GP (see below for more information on returning to sport). Make sure you have someone to stay with you for the first 48 hours after the injury, in case you experience more serious follow-up symptoms (see below). Take paracetamol to help with pain and avoid NSAID’s (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen as they can increase bleeding at the injury site. Seek follow up advice if you experience; unconsciousness or lack of consciousness, such as problems keeping your eyes open, mental confusion such as forgetting who or where you are, any drowsiness that goes on for longer than one hour when you would normally be wide awake, any problems understanding or speaking, any loss of balance or problems walking, any weakness in one or both arms or legs, any problems with eyesight, a very painful headache that will not go away, any vomiting, any fits or seizures, clear fluid coming out of the ear or nose, bleeding from one or both ears or sudden deafness in one or both ears. 9

The club once again has held it’s clothes collection through bag2school, this is the 4th year we have raised funds by having a clothing collection and the much needed funds go into our central development pot. Congratulations goes to Beth Pounder on receiving her degree in sports science. Beth is aplayer with the Ladies but has been unable to play this season due to injury. Beth is also the physio for both our adult teams; Billingham FC and Billingham Ladies..... Well done Beth. With Xmas coming we have a number of Parties/ team nights out planned for the mini soccer setion of the club along with our normal selection boxes to all the juniors. Whilst shopping on line ... PLEASE click on our website 1st and use the “CASHBACK” tab... This also raises funds as every time you shop we get paid from the various companies marketing departments and it doesn’t cost you any more than it would normally
