We are collecting the Gazette’s Wish Sport tokens, the money will be used towards our development fund. The money is provided by The Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Society, who also funded our seniors training kit, and one of their patrons Mandale Group came to Northfield for a club photo shoot. The club turned out in force and Harriet Splading from The Mandale Group was thrilled by the enthusiasm and turn out . (Even if she did get knocked over in the final picture) The first games of the TJFA will be played last weekend and we wish all the club’s junior teams all the best for the coming season. The Juniors had a great season both on and off the pitch last season and this has carried on through the preseason tournament and international visits. 2010 / 2011
The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated.
2012 / 2013
A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick. The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 7
2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments, Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line

A NEW NAME‌ BILLINGHAM FC
Now
going into our 5th season we welcomed the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. The season turned out to be more about developments off the field than on. We introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior. We held our 1st Golf day in August and this is now an annual event. We secured funding from the Teesside Philanthropic Society to enable us to buy training/ warm up kit for the whole squad. The press release featured in the Billingham Community News Paper and this led to a further grant from the Billingham Legacy Foundation which has enabled us to buy Rain jackets for the whole squad and 5 sub suits for the lads on the bench match days. Thanks to hard work by Ian Murray we have also retained RA DALTON as a sponsor of a new home kit (in the same style and colours as the juniors) and Klargester as new sponsors of our much needed away kit
On the pitch we continued to try and play a passing game, playing out from the back. After a good pre season we started reasonably well in the league but drawing games we really should have won, these lost points would come back at the end of the season to show in our final position. Our County cup game saw us host Ferryhill and a good performance saw us progress to the 1st round proper for the 1st time (another small landmark) and travel to Murton. A game on reflection we could have won but ended up going down 4-3. The end of the season was scrappy and when the U18’s folded some of the lads joined the squad, maybe a year early having had the past years experience but non the less they were welcomed into the squad.

We host Lingdale FC at Northfield sportsdrome today along with officials Laura Murphy, Leonard Thurlow and referee David Jarvis. The last time we played Lingdale was 2 seasons ago and they required a point to clinch the 2nd division and remain unbeaten. A Nathan Bayes goal sealed the victory although Lingdale went on to deservedly lift the 2nd division title. Ian Dixon’s side suffered last year through a change of playing squad and currently sit one place & 3 points above us. Their stand out league result being their win against Stockton West End but having also beaten Thornaby Dubliners in the cup, both results showing they still retain some of that title winning quality. A spirited 2nd half performance against Nunthorpe Athletic could not make up for our poor 1st half, a half in which we struggled to string 2 passes together. The 2nd half shows what a bit of spirit can deliver but we need to put that together with our better footballing performances if we are going to get the results that I think we deserve. A consistent squad would be nice, being able to field the same back 4 a benefit, fielding the same 11 ideal and to be able to field what I would consider my starting 11 ....... That remains a dream! The theme from the last 2 years remains... We play some great football for 30-40 minutes but never for the full match, we don’t believe in our ability to play our own football but continue to show great character. Let’s get all going in the right direction today and see what happens from here on in!

Ankle Ligament Injuries
The ligament on the inside of the ankle (the deltoid ligament) has two layers; the deepest one is most important. This ligament is mainly torn in association with severe fractures of the ankle bones. Sporting injuries of this ligament are rare. The ligament on the outside of the ankle (lateral ligament) is made up of three separate bands: one at the front (anterior talo-fibular igament), one in the middle (calcaneo-fibular ligament) and one at the back (posterior talo-fibular ligament). The front and middle bands are the ligaments injured in a sprain. Rest - take the weight off the injured joint as much as possible for a day or two Ice - an ice pack (a small bag of frozen peas is ideal) can be applied for 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times a day to reduce swelling Compression - a support bandage or strapping will help to reduce the swelling Elevation - resting with the ankle above the height of the body will allow swelling to drain away into the bloodstream Although a couple of days rest is useful, it is best to start taking some weight on the injured ankle reasonably soon after injury, usually within 2-3 days. Also start to exercise and stretch the injured ankle as soon as possible after the injury. Normally a sprained ankle will recover within 6-8 weeks, although it may tend to swell for a few months longer. When should I go to casualty? If you have a severe ankle injury it is best to get professional advice immediately. Things that suggest a severe injury include: your ankle is so painful that you cannot walk on it all • the ankle looks deformed • the skin over the ankle is broken • the injury was caused by a severe force such as a fall from a height or a blow from a heavy object • the pain and swelling seem to get worse rather than better over the first 3-4 days (the bruising often gets worse for a week or more before it starts to fade) Should I have physiotherapy? Most simple sprains get better without any special treatment. However, if you have a severe injury or the initial injury does not recover normally, it is usually best to see a physiotherapist. The hospital casualty or orthopaedic department, your own GP or your sports club can arrange this. Physiotherapists also advertise in Yellow Pages and local papers. 13
We have developed relationships through friendlies and county cup games across the North East in particular Birtley St Josephs, Whickham SC,Coxhoe Athletic, Redcar Athletic, Bishop Auckland Res, Murton, Anfield Plain, Wolviston, Ferryhill and Hartlepool FC. This season following te merging of the two divisions every team will play each other once. The division will then split in two, the bottom 10 will then play in their own division and the top 9 in their’s. The team finishing in the bottom 10 cannot finish higher than 10th despite the number of points they attain by the end of the season.

In the first round of the Kecol Lou Moore Trophy, St Mary’s took the lead against Redcar Town after a goalless first half, Mackay scoring, but Mackin made it 1-1 10 mins later to send the game into extra time, itchin gave Town a 2-1 lead, with Bowmaker making it 3-1 before Cotts made a final score of 3-2. Leaders Boro Rangers lead the table by 3pts after a hard fought victory over Yarm FC, Guy scored each side of half time to make it 2-0 with McQueeney making it 3-0, Fishburn remain in third place despite suffering their first defeat of the season when they entertained Grangetown BC, Fishburn took the lead through McGovern, Wilson equalised, Seed gave the Boys club a 2-1 lead but Faichney made it 2-2 but Seed gave the Boys Club a 3-2 half time lead, In the second half Seed completed his hat trick and Wilson made it a final score of 5-2, Thornaby Dubliners move up to forth after a 2-1 victory at previously unbeaten Redcar Newmarket, Allen and Hackett gave the Dubliners a 2-0 half time lead with Newmarket pulling it back to 2 -1 in the 70th min through Skelton, Thirsk and Stockton draw 0-0 in a drab game of few chances, Staithes drew 1-1 with BEADS, Weed scored for Staithes in the 15th min with Lilly making it 1-1 7mins later, Nunthorpe were 2-0 ahead against Billingham FC at half time, with goals from Webb and Brown, Billingham pulled it back to 2-2 with goals from Andrew Rowney and Shaun Laverick, a second from Brown made it 3-2 and Fletcher 4-2 before Laverick scored his second to make it 4-3 and Lingdale came from behind at Synthonia after Richards opened the scoring, a Peel brace gave Lingdale a 2-1 half time lead, Hood made it 3-1, but Turner pulled it back to 3-2 before Calvert made it 4-2.

AMAZING !!! Our Programme averaged 72 reads per issue, even more suprising was where it was read! One Album I'm Really Looking Forward To
There is one album at the moment that I'm counting down the days for.. You know who it is? James Bay - Chaos and the Calm The Critic's choice winner at the Brit's this year has been blogged about before on my blog but seriously his voice is just outrageous and deserves a second post. So why am I looking forward to this album? Well, when James announced the album back in 2014 there were 5 songs that he released with it. His famous Hold Back The River, If You Ever Want To Be In Love, Scars, Running and Clocks Go Forward. Listening to those tracks have just made me more excited to complete the album. I've got a feel for it already and I wouldn't be surprised if it was my album of the year! However, this isn't his first album - In The Dark of Morning has 5 original tracks and available on amazon if you're interested to find out more of James. James is such a good singer songwriter, every lyric is felt with an extraordinary voice, complemented with a guitar/bass with minimal backing track. It's literally quite impossible to not like his music. So his album is available on the 24/3/15 (3/24/15 US) OK that's my time - I will be back Thursday for a post About Me!
