THE KINGS ARMS The Kings Arms was built in 1936 in a traditional 1930s design. It is situated in large landscaped gardens reflecting the local English countryside. The pub originally opened with the objective of providing a range of amenities for the local community including luncheons and teas together with fine ales and refreshments in pleasant comfortable surroundings. Although the pub may have seen many changes over the years we still offer the same comfort and value for money in our current food and drink offers. Our 2 meals at a set price include classics like hand battered fish and chips, rump steak and chips with all the trimmings and New York style chicken. With Sunday roasts all day every Sunday including a ‘go large’ option and midweek grill and curry nights priced to include a drink, our menu offers all your pub favourites and more. You will also find great deals on lagers, spirits and soft drinks. We offer a high standard of customer service and with 7 TV screens we are also very popular for sporting events. So, whether football, cricket or rugby is your passion, you'll find it all at The Kings Arms. We now boasts a fantastic new pizza oven, it’s now easy to grab a slice of the action whilst saving dough, perfect if you’re looking to feed a hungry group! Available to eat in or take-away, every pizza comes with its own performance, as we cook them right in front of you in our lively open kitchen. We are collecting the Gazette’s Wish Sport tokens, the money will be used towards our development fund. The money is provided by The Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Society, who also funded our seniors training kit, and one of their patrons Mandale Group came to Northfield for a club photo shoot the picture and editorial were feature in Saturday’s Gazette. The club turned out in force and Harriet Splading from The Mandale Group was thrilled by the enthusiasm and turn out . (Even if she did get knocked over in the final picture) The first games of the TJFA were played last weekend and the club’s juniors in general did well with some BIG wins, we had 3 players scoring hat tricks with Thompson from the U16 scoring a double hat trick. 2010 / 2011
The Intermediates founded when former U18 manager and BTJFC Secretary Peter Cooper and John Swanson came together to put together an adult team for the junior section. Both agreed that the Teesside league would be a good challenge and both had the same vision, to have a team where the players from the junior section could stay with the club once they had finished their junior football. The first season proved difficult on many levels; 42 players coming and going, organising a strip and pitches and most significantly the devastating death of Peter in October 2010. Ian Murray then the U18 manager joined the management team. A difficult season saw only 1 win in29 games... but the basis of a squad to go into the next season, and true to the philosophy that Peter had held, the majority had been former Junior players. 2011 / 2012 With a core of lads from the previous season and some of Ian's former U18 lads, the season looked to be full of promise, however the step up for the new lads and trying to gel the squads together saw the season start off where it finished the previous season, winless, however the results were encouraging. Once the team had it's first win under it's belt it went on an unbeaten run of 8 games. With the odd win/draw towards the end of the season...the results did not reflect the performances. The team had now started to develop a style of it's own, playing some attractive football, the highlight of the season had to be away to Northallerton Academy 2-0 down at half time, Town outplayed Northallerton to win 3-2 playing some great football, showing great character and both starting and finishing with 10 former Junior players... the foundation well and truly in place. Thanks to the hard work of Ian The team got new strips through a sponsorship agreement with RA DALTON. whose support is still much appreciated.
2012 / 2013
A more settled squad started the season playing a good style of football however a string of long term injuries to key players disrupted the season. Again the squad struggled for points and goals but the last 9 games of the season saw a more settled team start to play the football it promised early on. The highlight being the 2-1 win at Lingdale the first team to defeat champions (1 of only 2 clubs to do it) The season again saw progress both on and off the pitch with the addition to the coaching staff of goalkeeping coach Peter Laverick. The squad has 25 former junior players out of the 32 signed on continuing the philosophy that the team was set up to fulfil 7
2013 / 2014 We started the season at a new ground, Northfield sportsdrome and now have the support of the Whitehouse Pub who provide after match refreshments, Massive thanks !!! Our Football continued to go from the ridiculous to the sublime, some great moves and goals but games where we fell apart in sections of the game and got punished. This will happen with a young team but in the coming season we will look for those players now in their 5th season, even though they are still young, to step up to the plate. The season started off badly with Cooky suffering a double fracture but it did save us 3 points, happily Cooky started training at the end of the season. The emphasis was again on the SQUAD with Muzz starting to work shifts a massive loss for us after his early season form but that is why we needed numbers to turn up to games and training. We did progress off the field and on but again finished bottom ( Billingham Athletic resigning). Lav as leading goal scorer led the line well and finished 2nd highest scorer in Billingham. As a team we need to be more clinical and punish teams mistakes like they punish ours. For the first time we also produced a free match programme and developed to publishing it on-line
2014 / 2105
A NEW NAME‌ BILLINGHAM FC
Now
going into our 5th season we welcomed the 3rd group of young lads to come through from the juniors. Many have had a taste over the last couple of seasons on an ad-hoc basis and we will look to integrate them fully into the squad which I expect to be a little smaller this season but also a season wiser. The season turned out to be more about developments off the field than on. We introduced Beth Pounder to the management team in the closed season. Beth is a qualified Sports Scientist and will deal with players injuries and rehabilitation. Beth is also a former Billingham Junior. We held our 1st Golf day in August and this is now an annual event. We secured funding from the Teesside Philanthropic Society to enable us to buy training/ warm up kit for the whole squad. The press release featured in the Billingham Community News Paper and this led to a further grant from the Billingham Legacy Foundation which has enabled us to buy Rain jackets for the whole squad and 5 sub suits for the lads on the bench match days. Thanks to hard work by Ian Murray we have also retained RA DALTON as a sponsor of a new home kit (in the same style and colours as the juniors) and Klargester as new sponsors of our much needed away kit
On the pitch we continued to try and play a passing game, playing out from the back. After a good pre season we started reasonably well in the league but drawing games we really should have won, these lost points would come back at the end of the season to show in our final position. Our County cup game saw us host Ferryhill and a good performance saw us progress to the 1st round proper for the 1st time (another small landmark) and travel to Murton. A game on reflection we could have won but ended up going down 4-3. The end of the season was scrappy and when the U18’s folded some of the lads joined the squad, maybe a year early having had the past years experience but non the less they were welcomed into the squad.

St Mary’s College FC are next up at Northfield Sportsdrome today. Normally a close game between 2 sides that look to try and play football regardless of the result. St Mary’s have the edge in terms of results but the majority of games have been close well contested affairs. We will need to be at our best today if we are to get anything from the game but if past games tell us anything we have a chance if we play well... Up to us!! The past 2 games have been close in terms of results but Very disappointing in terms of football and our performance. Another spirited 2nd half performance again could not make up for our poor 1st half, a half in which we struggled to deal with Lingdale crosses and their forward’s movement. Again the 2nd half shows what a bit of spirit can deliver but we need to start to defend better and learning from our mistakes, scoring four goals should see us taking all 3 points not being left wondering what could have been. This week we achieved our 1000th twitter follower ( and we don’t just follow anyone , so our followers are of high quality). Our Champions League sweep was drawn in the Kings Arms, provider of our after match hospitality and if you have a team go to our Facebook page to see who you have drawn... GOOD LUCK! We also have a pitch raffle going on .. See the programme pages 34-35 for more information and contact us to chose your number.

Conditioning Stretching Programme Stretching is very important in all aspects of physical activity as it prepares the body for exercise and also prevents injury, better to have strong supple stretched out muscles than stiff, tight and torn muscles un-stretched! Stretching is often overlooked in warm ups and cool downs are rarely performed in most sports but should be done! Stretching not only increases your flexibility but also has a positive effect on your ability to execute ball skills, drills and your agility across the pitch. By having increased range of movement by stretching this helps to perform fine motor skills with greater poise, elegance and consistency. It also improves your agility in changing direction and having speed quick off the mark. By performing a stretching programme at least 3-4 times a week your range of motion will increase massively. As it is coming towards the end of the football season take note of the following and get stretching during pre-season to prepare you for next season. There are different types of stretching that can be performed, static, dynamic, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and Ballistic. Do not however perform stretching programmes as part of warm ups before training or matches. It has been suggested in recent studies that holding stretches for too long can hinder performance. This doesn’t however mean that stretching should not be done in warm ups, it just means the quantity of stretching and the time the stretches are held should be reduced. During warm ups stretches should be held for 8 to 10 seconds for static (standing calf stretch) in combination with dynamic stretching such as lunges, high knees and heel flicks etc. As well as incorporating PNF stretching such as the common hamstring stretch in which the leg is raised passively, stretched and then a short 8 second contraction is performed. During the stretching programme stretches should be held for 20-30 seconds in 3 sets per stretch and performed at least 3-4 times a week. Programme Considerations! Do NOT hold a stretch that is in anyway painful. It should feel tight and that tightness should diminish as you hold the stretch. Breath! Avoid breathing holding as you stretch as this can raise blood pressure and leave you feeling dizzy. For optimal results try to stretch every day or at least 3-4 times a week Makes sure your body in completely warm before you start. Either do 5-10mins of light aerobic exercise or do your stretches at the end of a training session. Hold each stretch for 20-30 seconds. "Shake out" the limb and joint and repeat for a total of 2 to 3 sets. Don't expect results overnight. It can take up to 6 weeks to see measurable improvements. Be persistent - they will come. Finally, consider testing yourself prior to starting a 13 soccer stretching program then again after 6 weeks.

Our latest graduate from the under 18’s. Committed player who can play at centre half or full back. Billy will no doubt learn a lot this season and gain valuable experience.
Jack Bennetts Midfield
19
Midfielder with a good touch and very strong on the ball, providing excellent cover in central midfield before going off to university
AMAZING !!! Our Programme averaged 72 reads per issue, even more suprising was where it was read! The vast majority as expected were read by people in the UK (I’m guessing Teesside) but our programme was also read overseas in 17 other countries. The table to the right shows where and how many reads from each country. If you are reading this outside the UK please put a comment on our facebook page so we know who & where you are. www.facebook.com/pages/BillinghamFC/1429244360680279 Thank you, Danke, Gracias, Merci, Hvala, Grazie,Дякую, Obrigado, Kiitos, ขอบคุณ, terima kasih, متشکرم

James Morrison - Demons This record is magnificent, divine, amazing and well over due. Every morning I wake up, check through my phone and often wonder what type of artist/playlist I'd like to listen to when I shower or even on the way to University.... It's funny, how the average person checks through their phone like it's the morning newspaper, Twitter or any other social media has everything you need to keep up to date with the outside world. Going through my phone and picking a song essentially dictates my mood for the start of the day and I simply just found this song by James Morrison called "Demons". Demons is taken from his forthcoming album "Higher Than Here" (His first album in 4 years) and if every song has been written with such elegance and enriched with meaning then I will be thoroughly looking forward to his new album. Furthermore, Demons is written with an underlying meaning of overcoming personal battles and controlling them to become a happier you. To me, James Morrison is that type of artist whom can only be described as a "Rough Diamond". His croaky, roughened voice can be considered edgy yet it is so aesthetically pleasing to listen to and he has that perfect mold for a love song. For Example"I Wont Let You Go" which was released in 2011. Finally, I hope Demons, re-introduces James back into the mainstream audience, he's an established British artist with an essence of brilliance. So give his new single a listen.
